Totally Dance

Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com
Generally speaking, this compilation disc leans away from more abrasive club fare, instead featuring a more down-tempo-oriented selection of source material. From a reimagined version of Dido's "Thank You" courtesy of Deep Dish, to tracks from Moby Delerium and Darude, the record has a mellower lean than others of its ilk. Still, there's also more pop-oriented material from Sarina Paris, Dream, and a seriously discofied version of "Get Over Yourself" from Eden's Crush to enliven things and make the record accessible for a wide range of dance fans. --Matthew Cooke

5 out of 5 stars "Totally Gnarly" or "Gag me with a Spoon"?.......2007-05-31

Some of the greatest moments of my life were in high school!! The mid 80's when I was carefree and lived life unfettered! No bills, no boss, no cares! Just me and my pastel suits and thin leather ties and full head of hair....(Man, I actually WORE those suits?!?!)
Fond nostalgia aside, the whole 'retro' thing is forcing the 80's upon us once again and you might as well admit that you were one of the characters from The Breakfast Club! (Mmmmmm....Ally Sheedy.)
Dropping these discs into my player and hitting shuffle just makes it all come flooding back!
But to tell a shameful truth? I really HAD to buy this set because of "Pac-Man Fever" by Buckner and Garcia and "Sweetheart" by Franke & the Knockouts. I've never seen these songs anywhere else!
I'm not sure I even looked at the other songs before my credit card was being swiped by the good folks at Amazon!!
So, yeah, again, I bought on impulse but I damn sure don't regret it!! In fact, I'd suggest we embrace the "ME, ME, ME" decade just once more and "BUY, BUY, BUY" this set.
If you went to high school in the 80's like I did, simply put, this will bring back some great memories.
(Unless, of course, your high school years sucked. To which, I say, "That's too bad. I'm sorry for you.")
Either way, just admit that the 80's were a great time for music and pastel suits and thin leather ties.........(chicks dig the thin tie still, right? Right? Anybody? Can I get a witness?)
Where's Don Johnson when I need him?
Oh, here he is....Disc 6, Song 19!

4 out of 5 stars Time Warp.......2007-05-23

I guess only someone who was a teen or 20something could really appreciate
this set. The 80s were my high school and college years and I was
certainly guilty of listening to the radio .... This set is awesome and
is really made indispensable with the booklet. My only gripe lies with
the artists that were huge in the 80s, but evidently could not be licensed
for this set....Notably U2, REM, Hoodoo Gurus, Wall of Voodoo, etc

3 out of 5 stars Shut up!.......2007-03-04

Like, for sure, half of it is like totally major gross-out, but the other half is like bitchin! Just shut up already and buy it!

2 out of 5 stars missing tracks.......2007-02-26

lots of great 80's music available in these cds, but missing one of the greatest groups of the decade...Wham!

5 out of 5 stars Excellent CD Set!.......2007-01-18

I purchased this set for my 13 year old daughter. It seems the 80's are making a big comeback. She loves it! I love it, too!! It has all the most popular songs from the 80's plus a few you do not hear anywhere now. It's great! It brings back a lot of memories, GOOD TIMES!!

2 out of 5 stars Wack.......2006-11-20

This album is lame as hell but next to the air pollution on the airwaves today, this aint too bad thats why it gets a 2. Right before female rappers(there's a few exceptions), I hate all little kid rappers. Even when I was a kid. I don't like anything on this album, I still got the tape and it hasn't "krossed" my mind to even cop the cd. If you like this kind of stuff, or you loved "jump" back in the day then I guess this is for you.

4 out of 5 stars Good first effort.......2006-05-21

I remembered buying the cassette at a mall in Augusta, Ga. and hearing it several hours later in Atlanta in summer 1992. This was after Jump finished its long 8-week run at No. 1 and when Warm it Up was starting off. This was a solid first album for them as they had a unique rap style. Sometimes Daddy Mac was better that Mack Daddy on the rapping. The music was very catchy, especially Jump, but I liked the funky Warm It Up and its rollicking sound and bass. It's one of Jermaine Dupri's best produced songs and ranks right up there with his current songs for other artists. Dupri gives such dynamic music for Kris Kross for this effort. One other song that stands out is the danceable Party at the album's very end. I would have done away with the silly I Missed the Bus. And Dupri even samples an Ice Cube song with Cube's "Drop an old school beat!" line. You just can't miss that moment when you hear it on the album! The album's very Atlanta driven and really represented the hip-hop sounds from there several years before Lil' Jon and Outkast took over. I thought the backward jeans style was a bit much, as a lot of young people were wearing their clothes like that for a year until it got played out. Kris Kross' voices changed on later albums, but it made them better. This is a good first effort that sold very huge in its prime. It's another unique album that came out in the 90s.

5 out of 5 stars old school classic!.......2006-05-13

i remember i used to chill on the block and bump this cd all day, reminds me of the old times. kriss kross delivered dope lyrics over tight beats! this is a must have for any fan of real hip hop!

2 out of 5 stars Music for tha kiddies........2006-01-02

Tha title says it all. This is strictly for tha kids. It doesn't fail at being just that so I guess this album was a success for them. They did have a few tracks on here that transcended age but not enough to pay for. This is a good listen if you wanna take a trip down memory lane though.

3 out of 5 stars Some songs not the original single versions .......2004-10-07

I bought this CD for one song "Get Wet's Just So Lonely".
It is the album version and not the original single version as claimed on the cover. The original single version does fade out before the funny change of key part at the end.
Otherwise the CD is OK. I am still looking for the original single version of the song.

5 out of 5 stars Great Selection.......2004-07-03

I have to say that I like Rhino and Varese Sarabande's CDs so much more that the slapped-together compilations that I find in the "cheap racks" at Tower (and other stores). This CD has a ton of great '80s hits on it...and the liner notes are really fact-filled, too. Get this and the Rhino New Wave CDs...you'll be set for your '80s fix!

4 out of 5 stars Stars and one-hit wonders of the '80s.......2004-07-02

This is a fine complement to Varese's first volume of '80s hits, providing a second helping bona-fide stars (Bangles, Cars, Pat Benatar), and one- (and possibly two-) hit wonders. The latter are particularly valuable, as collecting them on CD, especially the original single mixes, can be tough and pricy. In addition to true one-hit wonders like Dead or Alive ("You Spin Me Round (Like a Record)") and Total Coelo ("I Eat Cannibals"), the song list features bands whose flirtation with chart success only hints at their rich catalog and history. Artists like J. Geils, Devo, Greg Kihn, The Cult, and Love and Rockets all have album catalogs well worth exploring beyond these hits. It's amazing to think back to a time when this much variety - new wave, rock, soul, could all be heard on the same radio station (not to mention a time when MTV played videos end-to-end). A generous 18 tracks make this a good party record, and song-by-song chart info and liner notes fill out the story for collectors.

Pokémon fever continues to burn hot, as evidenced by this catching symptom: a high-octane pop soundtrack for the animated television series. Dream teen group Johto borrow from the elements that make Backstreet Boys, Britney, Christina, and 'N Sync sensationally popular, repackaging their sound Pokémon-style for young audiences. A cross between Up with People, Hanson, and a latter-day Mickey Mouse Club, Totally Pokémon opens with "Pokémon Johto" the syrupy pop jingle that opens the television show each Saturday morning. The record's first single, "Pikachu (I Choose You)," is an infectiously buoyant Latin-tinged dance number, and "He Drives Me Crazy" is a youthfully crushed-out ballad in celebration of series protagonist Ash Ketchum. Included here too are seven bonus karaoke tracks (lyrics are printed inside the disc liner), and while adults may grow weary of these songs, those with Pikachu-obsessed children can rest assured that Totally Pokémon is clean, fun, and goofy enough to include a tune called "Song of Jigglypuff." --Paige La Grone

4 out of 5 stars A KID'S REVIEW.......2007-06-05

Well, i loved He Drives Me Crazy. It really does talk about Misty's secret crush on Ash. Though it was quite obivious that Misty loved Ash, Ash was, shall we say, slightly thick-headed to not notice that. If you noticed, Misty agrees to what Ash says first, then Brock follows suit. I really wished that things were better for Misty and Ash. Well back on track, You will really LOVE the song "He Drives Me Crazy". Ash was really mean to leave Misty and go to another region when she cant come. She was there in every step and he rewards her like this(Yes, i did see that episode). This song is like a continuation from "Misty's Song" which is sung by Misty when Ash is asleep. I did not buy this CD but my Cousin did and after he got another CD gave this to me.
I really think Ash is moving through friends too fast. First, Misty, then May now Dawn. Sheesh. Any way,
Thanks for your kind attention,
Good bye and love Pokemon!

This CD goes up with the rest of those pop songs out there. It's great! Kids can listen to it and there parents don't have to have a worry about anything bad happening at all. Even teens can enjoy it. My older sister who is 15 loves All We Wanna Do. I love pop songs! This is definatly one CD that pokemon worked hard on.

5 out of 5 stars I Love It!.......2005-07-26

This is a great CD! I really love it and hope you will too, as this CD was made for Pokemon Nuts like me!

1. Pokemon Johto: An inspirational song about discovering new places and stuff!

2. Pikachu! I Choose You!: A song with a Latin beat and I like it! It's all about meeting Pikachu and stuff! Piakchu rules!

3. All We Wanna Do: Also very inspirational about being yourself and having fun with life!

4. The Game: It's a good song, about being a Pokemon Master and making it all the way!

5. He Drives Me Crazy: This is my personal favorite! It's about Misty's secret crssh on Ash, but it's also kind of a love song.

6. You and Me and Pokemon: About becoming friends with Pokemon and stuff. Great song! Also a favorite!

7. Biggest Part of My Life: About how training Pokemon has become a big part of life! I like this one too!

8. Do You Really Wanna Play?: Great song! I like it.

9. Song of Jigglypuff: Jiggly, jiggly! Nice song!

10. 2 Perfect Girls: I LOVE this song!

11. Never Too Far From Home: About always knowing that whatever you choose to do, your family and pals are behind you all the way!

12. PokeRap: Cool song, upbeat and, well, cool!
The karaoke versions: If you know the words I say, why not? Sing it!

Side note: These songs are very inspirational! Play them when you're feeling down. They cheer me up no matter what!

4 out of 5 stars A Fun CD!.......2004-10-17

An enjoyable CD that everyone can listen to, especially children. Since it's a 2001 release, it is mostly consistent with the Pop music phenomenon of that time, although not entirely Pop-oriented.

1. "Pokémon Johto": the theme song for the third season of the TV series, "The Johto Journeys." A song with a happier tone than the original "Pokémon Theme" from the first television season, and the album, "2.B.A. Master." [5 Stars]

2. "Pikachu (I Choose You)": an upbeat Latin-style song. It has a nice guitar and trumpet solo. [4 Stars]

3. "All We Wanna Do": a very nice song to dance to. Good lyrics coupled with some nice synthesizers. Slightly Pop-oriented. [4 Stars]

4. "The Game": a song that can get somewhat redundant after a while, although the chorus is a nice catchy tune. [3.4 Stars]

5. "He Drives Me Crazy": a song performed by, supposedly the character Misty, although the lead singer sounds nothing like the character. Could be considered Pop-oriented. [3.8 Stars]

6. "You and Me and Pokémon": a very nice song with good lyrics, and good singers. My personal favorite. [5 Stars]

7. "Biggest Part of My Life": definitely not my favorite here. It would be a good song, except for the lyrics, which seem to idolize the whole Pokémon idea. [2 Stars]

8. "Do Ya Really Wanna Play": an okay song that is the most Pop-oriented one on this disc. [3 Stars]

9. "Song of Jigglypuff": a relaxing song with Jigglypuff singing solo in places. [4 Stars]

10 "Two Perfect Girls": a song sure to put a smile on your face. It is a Late '50s style song that is performed by Eric Stuart, the voice-actor of the character Brock (Stuart has a few other albums out by his group, "The Eric Stuart Band," not of this style music, however). [5 Stars]

11. "Never Too Far From Home": a nice slow ballad with good lyrics. [4 Stars]

12. "PokéRap GS": the new version of the original "PokéRap" heard in the album "2.B.A. Master." Even though it by no means outdoes its predecessor, it has some good overall lyrics. It can get redundant after a while, though. [3 Stars]

13-19: Various karaoke tracks from the original songs.

Overall, this album isn't quite as good as its predecessor, "2.B.A. Master," but it has a few better songs to it. Pokémon fans of any age should like this CD's fun songs and overall carefree tone.

3 out of 5 stars Totally Crap!!!.......2005-05-06

I don't like any of the Totally Hit series cause they suck!
Totally Hits 2004 really sucks! I Only The Hip Hop Song's it
has. One Thing that i'd notice is that they never have any Latin singers. That's One Thing i hate of this series. This series comes out every 5 Months! So they Have 2 CD'S evry year.Always the song's they put are play'd out whet their cd come out.
Now That's What I call Music the series comes out with 3 cd's a year! They have Latin artist.
That why Now That's What I call Music the series is better!
so don't recomand u buy any of the totally hits cd series
cause they suck! Insted buy The Now series!!!

Due to his death at age 54, Celine Dion covered many Luther Vandross songs, including "Dance With My Father", a kind of sad song.

4 out of 5 stars Review for TH 2003.......2004-11-30

This, I thought, was one of the best Totally Hits albums yet.

1. Kelly Clarkson- Miss Independent A/ A very good Kelly Clarkson song, though, it was pretty overplayed. Still very good.

2. Michelle Branch- Are You Happy Now? B/One of my least fav Michelle Branch songs, but, I guess it pretty good, and most people will like it.

3. Santana featuring Alex Band- Why Don't You And I A/ I like this song, but Chad's version was much better. Oh well! Still good.

4. Fabolous featuring Tamia- Into You A+/ Very, very, very underrated, so I'm glad Totally Hits put this on. Very great track, just extremly underrated.

5. R. Kelly featuring Camron and Big Tigger- Snake (Remix) F/ This was probably the most annoying song of 2003. Who on Earth would like this song? R. Kelly sort of sucks now, though, he used to be better. Who is Big Tigger anyway?

6. Monica- So Gone C+/ Very overrated and very generic, but it's an ok song. Still doesn't derserve a very high grade though.

7. Jason Mraz- The Remedy (I Won't Worry) A/ Here's another good tune from Jason Mraz. Very good, probably the best by him.

8. Jewel- Intuition B+/ Hmm. very poppy for Jewel, but it's a good tune, but she's losing her folk image and turning into the next Britney.

9. Clay Aiken- This Is The Night B-/ Kinda boring for Clay Aiken. Invisible could have been a muuch better choice, though, it's ok.

10. Ruben Studdard- Flying Without Wings B/ A bit better than Clay. This is probably Ruben's best song to date unless there's something better on his new album I Need An Angel (haven't bought it yet).

11. Justin Timberlake- Cry Me A River C-/ Very overraed. I really didn't like this song. It's pretty boring. Slow, but bad slow.

12. Sean Paul- Like Glue B/ They should have used Get Busy (bigger hit and better song), though, it's pretty good, but doesn't compare to Get Busy.

13. Simple Plan- Addicted D/ Overplayed, overplayed, did I say overplayed?

14. Avril Lavigne- Sk8ter Boi A+/ Probably Avril's 3rd most played single up to today. Complicated was too old to be on this CD, and Don't Tell Me was much, much, much too new, so Sk8erboi was a great add-on. Very good rock song too.

15. Trapt- Headstrong A-/ This would have been better to be put on Totally Hits 2002, but it's still a great song by Trapt. Trapt's best song too.

16. Uncle Kracker- In A Little While C-/ Very old! Maybe could've been on Totally Hits 2001! It's a good song, but wwwwwwwwwwaaaaaayyyyyyyy too old for this CD. They should have used Drift Away. It was a big hit!

17. Christina Aguilera- Fighter A/ Great song! Christina Aguilera's voice really shines on this song!

18. Missy Elliott- Work It A+/ I love this song! Much better than the overrated Gossip Folks! Great great great! I was scared they wouldn't put this on, but they did! Great song!

19. Blu Cantrell featuring Sean Paul- Breathe (Remix) B+/ I love Blu Cantrell's work, but this is one of her downfall songs. Though, it's pretty good, but most people hate it.

20. Luther Vandross- Dance With My Father A/ Very very sad. I almost cried the first time I heard it. It's really good, and it's a nice soft song to end the CD.

Totally Hits 2003- B+/ This is a great CD full of some good songs of 2003. I suggest you buy it if you liked 2003's music.

19.F- You have been warned
20.F- Death is here
The good: Sean Paul, Ruben Studdard, R.Kelly, and Fabolous
The bad: The rest
Overall:Buy this if you want to commit suicide

2 out of 5 stars Most of them are very over-played!.......2004-05-26

NOW is not better: bad, overplayed songs.

1. Kelly Clarkson/Miss Independent: 1/5, Most overplayed song ever.
2. Michelle Branch/Are You Happy Now?: 3/5, Pretty good song.
3. Santana/Why Don't You & I: 3/5, Also not bad.
4. Fabolous ft. Tamia/Into You: 1/5, Never liked it.
5. Cam'ron/Snake [Remix]: 1/5, Horrible.
6. Monica/So Gone: 5/5, The best song on this CD.
7. Jason Mraz/Remedy: 2/5, Liked it at first, but got annoying.
8. Jewel/Intuition: 4/5, I liked this song and still do.
9. Clay Aiken/This Is the Night: 2/5, Ehhhh...

11. Justin Timberlake/Cry Me a River: 3/5, No comment.
12. Sean Paul/Like Glue: 2/5, Not a good song.
13. Simple Plan/Addicted: 2/5, Whiny voices, don't make for a good song.
14. Avril Lavigne/Sk8er Boi: 3/5, I have nothing against the song itself.
15. Trapt/Headstrong: 3/5, It is and was an okay song.
16. Uncle Cracker/In a Little While: 2/5, Nah...
17. Christina Aguilera/Fighter: 3/5, It use to be a 4.
18. Missy Elliott: 2/5, Also use to be a 4, way too overplayed.
19. Blu Cantrell/Breathe: 3/5, Not as bad as some other songs.
20. Luther Vandross/Dance With My Father: 3/5, It's not great.

5 out of 5 stars My Review for: Totally Hits 2003.......2004-05-23

YES!!! I finally got it!! But, something bothers me tho: They shouldve released this in the summer, and, in Octobor, this shouldve been Volume 2! Whats up with that?!! Here goes tho:

1. Kelly Clarkson- Miss Independent (4/5) One of the biggest hits of '03, and, overplayed. Still pretty good tho.
2. Michelle Branch- Are You Happy Now? (5/5) Pretty overplayed also, but, I still love it. Probably Michelle's 2nd biggest hit.
3. Santana featuring Alex Band- Why Don't You And I (5/5) Sweet song, but, I like Chad Kroger's version better. Both are still awsome, tho!
4. Fabolous featuring Tamia- Into You (3/5) Mmm... I liked this song at 1st, then kinda hated it, and, grew on me again. Pretty decent song and ballad from Fabolous still, but, it got soo overplayed.
5. R. Kelly featuring Camron and Big Tigger- Snake (Remix) (1/5) Ugh! The orignal was cool, but, the remix is just AWFUL! Kelly just had to mess things up with his OWN SONG! Camron is pretty dumb on it too. I like Camron, but, he raps off key on this. Oh, I never heard the remix till I got this.
6. Monica- So Gone (4/5) Great song by Monica, but, it got quite overplayed, and, she dosnt sound that good at rapping, sadly. She does an ok rap part, but, she cant compare to actual female rappers. Sorry Monica, but, just do singing from now on.
7. Jason Mraz- The Remedy (I Won't Worry) (5/5) Phew! back to the awsome songs! Jason's debut single, which im sure everyone has heard by now. Tons better than You And I Both. Got pretty overplayed, but, I still love it.
8. Jewel- Intuition (5/5) Yeah! A great pop turn for Jewel, and, was succesful for her. I hope she keeps up the good work!
9. Clay Aiken- This Is The Night (4/5) A nice ballad from Clay, and, his debut song. Not as good as Invisible or The Way, tho.
10. Ruben Studdard- Flying Without Wings (4/5) Yeah! Ruben's debut single, and, a bit better than Clay's. A remake of this Westlife song. (You remember them, right?)
11. Justin Timberlake- Cry Me A River (5/5) Yeah, awsome song by Justin! Very oveplayed in 2003, but, it never got old. The lyrics are about Britney, as u all know. But, in the video, the girl he was with was NOT Britney. Same for Usher's Burn, the girl was NOT Chilli.
12. Sean Paul- Like Glue (4/5) Very Decent Sean Paul track, but, not as good as Get Busy or Gimmie The Light. Still awsome, tho! This got pretty overplayed, too.
13. Simple Plan- Addicted (5/5) Best Simple Plan song. Got overplayeddoorz also, but, never got old, just like JT's Cry Me A River.
14. Avril Lavigne- Sk8ter Boi (5/5) Avril! Love this track alot, but, its soo old to put it on here! It wasnt really a hit in 2003, it was in 2002! So, they shouldve added Im With You instead, cuz, that was one of the biggest hits of '03!!!
15. Trapt- Headstrong (5/5) Alternitve/Rock song of the year. Got very overplayeddoorz also, but, I surprisngly never got tired of it. Was big in 2003 & 2004. Released in late 2002, tho.
16. Uncle Kracker- In A Little While (5/5) Great song by Kracker, but, it was VERY OLD TO PUT IT ON HERE!!! It was on the charts in 2002! Shoudve added Drift Away, because that was A REAL '03 HIT! Oh, sure, its a remake, but, it was A HIT, and, not this!!! A pretty minor hit.
17. Christina Aguilera- Fighter (5/5) Great rockish song from Christina! Pretty overplayed, but, still love it. They couldve added Can't Hold Us Down tho, cuz, it was new and hotter at the time.
18. Missy Elliott- Work It (5/5) Yay! A big hit for Missy in 2002 & 2003! Could be at least one of her biggest. Probably the 2nd most overplayed song on here, but, I still love it! I love MOST of the songs that were overplayed on here! And, mostly ALL of the songs are!
19. Blu Cantrell featuring Sean Paul- Breathe (Remix) (3/5) Cool song from Blu Cantell, and, Sean Paul does good, but, sooooooo damn overplayed!! Thats pretty odd, cuz, it didnt even reach the top 30 in the CHR/POP chart!!
20. Luther Vandross- Dance With My Father (4/5) Pretty decent beautiful ballad from Luther, but, not as good as I'd Rather or Take You Out.

OK, im done! Mostly ALL the songs were overplayed! Geez lou wis! But, its probably one of the most underrated Totally Hits! Peace out!

Customer Reviews:

2 out of 5 stars Way too many bad songs, but............2005-01-29

MARIA, MARIA- Meh, this doesn't impress me that much. Aggravating Latin pop. I kind of feel sorry for Santana. He's like this old fart and everyone seems to hate him. But this song might just justify that. (2/5)
GENIE IN A BOTTLE- To this day, this is Christina Aguilera's best song of all time. I love it, and there was a period where I couldn't stop listening to it. Her vocals are stunning, as usual, the backing track is funky, and the chorus is so infectious it should be a crime. It's too bad she won't be making any more succulent pop confections like this. Still, one of, if not THE best song here. (5/5)
NEVER LET YOU GO- It's okay, but overrated. It got overplayed. (3/5)
FALLS APART- They have better. I'm not impressed. (1/5)
AMAZED- EW MAKE IT STOP!!!! COUNTRY SICKENS ME, AND SO DOES THIS S*&^. (0/5)
MAMBO NO. 5 (A LITTLE BIT OF...)- I tried to like this song, I really did, but it's SOOOOO annoying!!!! UGH!! (0/5)
BEAUTIFUL STRANGER- Awesome club song, it's so much fun. I don't adore it quite as much as I did when it first came out, but its funky, old-fashioned fun still can't be denied. One of her best songs. (5/5)
MY LOVE IS YOUR LOVE- God, this girl can SANG!!! As for this song, it's not horrible, but she has SO much better. (3/5)
TAKE A PICTURE- Someone referred to this as rock, but it's disturbingly close to country, with the dude's warbly whining. This song is awful, I hate it. (0/5)
DEAR LIE- .....I'm sorry, but TLC are one-hit wonders in my eyes. They never topped "No Scrubs," and obviously now never will. This song is atrocious, and it is particularly pitiful when you consider how excellent their first offering was. (0/5)
HOT BOYZ- ....I can't get into this song that much. Her later offerings, like "Get Ur Freak On," "Work It," and "Pass That Dutch" are so much better. Still, it's sort of fun. (3/5)
NATURAL BLUES- Moby is so underrated it's depressing. And yet this isn't very good, compared to what the rest of `Play' has to offer. Why couldn't they include "South Side" (it was a WAY bigger hit), or "Honey" or "Porcelain" or "Rushing"?! This will give you a bad impression of Moby, don't listen to it. (2/5)
GIRL ON TV- Uninspired boy band gunk. *Nsync and Backstreet Boys are all I need. You other wannabes need to go away. (0/5)
I DRIVE MYSELF CRAZY- .....Why do *Nsync's worst songs keep appearing on Totally Hits?! Where's "Tearin' Up My Heart?!" Where's "I Want You Back?!" Filler like this should not have been included. They have so much better!! (1/5)
U KNOW WHAT'S UP- ....The guy has a sexy, soulful voice, but this song is bleaugh. I don't like it that much. It's kind of embarrassing when the backing track is more catchy than the words. I just....really don't like this song. (1/5)
RIGHT HERE WAITING- Ballads like this, which just contain warbled words, no hook, and a weak, slow backing track, do not impress me. (0/5)
GREAT BEYOND- ....Sort of sweet, and the girl can sing, but.....painfully slow ballads like this make me feel bored, sleepy, and/or depressed. And right now I don't want to feel any of those things. (1/5)
I WILL REMEMBER YOU- I don't know what to think of Sarah McLaghlan. She isn't *quite* as sleep-inducing as Norah Jones, and her songs are more catchy. This one is her typical formula-a hooky chorus and an almost-tiring backing track. "World On Fire" and "Fallen" are better songs. (3/5)

2 out of 5 stars Falloff from the first.......2004-12-18

1. Maria Maria- F I very much hate Santana.

2. Genie In a Bottle- A+ Very great song! ONe of the only good ones on here.

3. Never Let You Go- A Jumper was great, and this is no exception.

4. Falls Apart- D+ Very weak follow-up to Someday.

5. Amazed- F I hate country. Hate it, hate it, hate it!

6. Mambo #5- D This was a great song, but once it's overplayed, it's cursed.

7. Beautiful Stranger- A Very good, but doesn't beat Ray of Light.

8. My Love is Your Love- B+ A good song, but it's very old.

9. Take a Picture- A+ Very great rock song!

10. Dear Lie- D- Wait...wait...wait...is this TLC? The creators of Creep? The creators of No Scrubs? The creators of CrazySexyCool? No, this must be a mistake. TLC can't create this kind of song..can they? It's horrible!

11. Hot Boyz- D- Hot is an overused slang term. Hot Boys is annoying enough, and when you spell boys "boyz", it's just awful.

12. Natural Blues- A Moby is awesome an he is soooooooo underrated.

13. Girl On TV-Drippy boy band ballad. F *cough* LFO *cough*

14. I Drive Myself Crazy- D- I have enough on my mind. I don't need Justin Timberlake making my music choices for me.

15. U Know What's Up- F Poser! Poser! Stupid! He also sounds like he may be...g@y. Who knows? May be true!

16. Right Here Waiting- B- Monica is awesome, but one of her worst.

17. The Great Beyond- D- You have to admit, this song is boring, but R.E.M. is awesome.

18. I Will Remember You- A+ WTF? TH gives us all of this crap and the ending has the best song of the CD? Anyway, best ballad of the year.

Overall - D+ Mega falloff from the first one. I wouldn't get this CD only if you like most of the songs. Get the first one, it's much better.

4 out of 5 stars The best,.......2002-04-19

I do like some major productions couldn't tell what about you know? I like Lou Bega's Mambo No.#5,Lonestar's Amazed, and Sarah Mclachlan's I Will Remember You.If you into pop,R&B,or rock.get this CD today! bye!

2 out of 5 stars Not as Many "Hits".......2001-08-22

Much like the dropoff from the first "Now", "Totally Hits" falls a bit in its second release. Again, the reason being unmemorable songs from well-known artists and follow-ups that pale in comparison to their predicessors.1. Maria Maria-Not bad, but a rather weak follow-up to "Smooth". It was still a #1 hit. (3/5)2. Genie In a Bottle-While "Now" carries Britney, "TH" carries her main rival. This hit scored an upset win for Christina over Britney at the Grammys. (4.5/5)3. Never Let You Go-One follow-up that was actually better than its predicessor, "Jumper". (4.5/5)4. Falls Apart-Good, but not great follow-up to "Someday". (3.5/5)5. Amazed-Good country entry from newcomer Lonestar. (4/5)6. Mambo #5-This obvious one-hit-wonder can test some people's patience. A good stategy is to change the dial on a song you know is going to get overplayed, so that when you get a copy of it, you won't be sick of it yet. That's what I did with this catchy novelty. (5/5)7. Beautiful Stranger-Pretty Good Madonna song. More effective in the context of the "Austin Powers 2" movie. (3.5/5)8. My Love is Your Love-One of the better recent Whitney tunes. (3.5/5)9. Take a Picture-Catchy rock tune. (4/5)10. Dear Lie-Lousy, irritating TLC song. (1.5/5)11. Hot Boyz-Now we get a rap song for the first time. I'm not a fan of the genre. Missy's "Get Ur Freak On" is better than this. (2/5)12. Natural Blues-Terrific dance tune from Moby. (4.5/5)13. Girl On TV-Drippy boy band ballad. (2/5)14. I Drive Myself Crazy-'NSYNC's final RCA and "TH" entry, a rather dull ballad. (2/5)15. U Know What's Up-No, I don't. Who's Donell Jones? (2/5)16. Right Here Waiting-Another unmemorable tune from a well-known R & B artist. (2/5)17. The Great Beyond-R.E.M. has been the most enduring group of the 80's and 90's. Unfortunately, their only "TH" entry is this merely okay song. (2.5/5)18. I Will Remember You-Decent ballad. (3/5)So, like "Now" 2 and 3, "Totally Hits 2" suffers from too much unmemorable filler.

3 out of 5 stars Not a very good CD.......2001-08-22

I'm a bit disappointed with some of the songs on here. The only ones I like are "Maria Maria", "Genie In a Bottle", "Mambo #5", "Beautiful Stranger", "My Love Is Your Love", and "Girl On TV". All the others on here are terrible. The only reason I bought this CD was because I wanted to have all the CD'S in the Totally Hits collection. If you want to buy it, skip most of the tracks other than the ones I mentioned. The Totally Hits 3 CD is a lot better than this one (see my review of it).

A more balanced representation of Pop 2000 than the better-selling Now 5, the third installment of the similarly multilabel Totally Hits series offers the possibility of delightful surprises to those with open ears. (But yo, where's the rap?) Suburbilly queen Faith Hill offers "The Way You Love Me," a sexy pop-rocker that out-hooks the angst-lite of matchbox twenty, Vertical Horizon, and Barenaked Ladies, thereby proving that a makeup spokesmodel can trump guitar boys at their own game. Dido's "Here with Me" succeeds at its end-run around ethereal singer-songwriter clichés, while Toni Braxton's "He Wasn't Man Enough" still sounds like one of the year's toughest singles. (No surprise there, actually.) If music unites the people (as 3's opening "deep dish dot com radio edit" of Madonna's No. 1 hit contends), you can thank the women for bringing the style. --Rickey Wright

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Good, but not the best........2004-12-18

(1) Madonna "Music"(Deep Dish Dot Com Radio Edit) B+ This is a good song, but I didn't like the remix too much.

(2) Pink "Most Girls" A- This is a good song, but could have been a bit better, considering it's P!nk.

(3) Matchbox Twenty "Bent" B- I like Matchbox 20, but this song didn't have enough flavor.

(4) Vertical Horizon "Everything You Want" A+ I very much like this song. It's very good, and has a hint of Alternative.

(5) Third Eye Blind "Deep Inside Of You" B- Good song, but a bit too repetitive.

(6) Barenaked Ladies "Pinch Me" B Not as good as One Week, but still has effort.

(7) Faith Hill "The Way You Love Me"(Radio Mix) A Once again, I hate country, but love Faith Hill, and this song is no exception.

(8) Dido "Here With Me" B- Not as good as other Dido songs, but still worth a few listens.

(9) Toni Braxton "He Wasn't Man Enough" F He wasn't man enough because he was a girl. Sorry, but this song sucks @$$.

(10) Christina Aguilera "What A Girl Wants" B+ It's good, but I've seen mmmmmmmuuuuuuuucccccccchhhhhh better from her.

(11) Next "Wifey" C- Was this even a hit?

(12) Debelah Morgan "Dance With Me" F This is a horrible song.

(13) Joy Enriquez "Tell Me How You Feel" F Hate this song? Who is Joy Enriquez?

(14) Vitamin C "Graduation" A+ Now were getting somewhere! Great song, and fullfilling to all graduations.

(15) The Corrs "Breathless" A- This is a great song from some UK rockers (I think they are from the UK). Anyway, great song guys!

(16) Whitney Houston "Fine" C+ No, this song is not fine, it's ok.

(17) John Michael Montgomery feat. Alison Krauss and Dan Tyminski "The Little Girl" F I just wanna say, who cares for this song? Not oonly is it annoying, it was never ahit. Plus, who are all these people? WTF???

Overall- B- Just barely made it to the B range. But, I know they could have done much better. Will the first always be the best?

4 out of 5 stars 4 Years, And Finer With Time.......2004-09-16

I may be writing under about three different names, but this is still the same writer. My "latest" music purchase was a bit srtiking, I bought "Totally Hits 3", which was released during Fall 2000, when I was in 9th grade. Now I'm a freshman in college! Four(4) years have passed, yet these songs still as good as they were back in 2K. Here's a retro breakdown:
(1) Madonna "Music"(Deep Dish Dot Com Radio Edit) B. A good dance song, just lacking the techno zing of the original version. Deep Dish has compromised Will Orbit's originality in favor of standard beats.
(2) Pink "Most Girls" A-. Broke no new ground, but still managed to be a catchy, slick and promising debut song that announced Pink as a powerful artist. A great production to balance pop and R&B. And because Babyface produced it; it has a similar sound to TLC's "Fanmail" LP (1999)
(3) Matchbox Twenty "Bent" B+. Matchbox Twenty has done better. Rob Thomas' heartfelt lyrics remain the highpint of the piece. The song is well made and has some true dimension, yet it could use a little more zip, still good though.
(4) Vertical Horizon "Everything You Want" A-. Proves that less can be more. By laying back, the song lets its deep, powerfull lyrics seep into the soul. I don't understand why the group vanished though; on the basis of this and "You're A God", they clearly had alot of talent.
(5) Third Eye Blind "Deep Inside Of You" C. There's suposed to be a message here, but the song is too long and becomes pretty standard. In the end, there isn't any of the depth which drove their two best tracks; "Hows It Gonna Be?" and "Never Let You Go". It's a real dissapointment; hit or not.
(6) Barenaked Ladies "Pinch Me" B+. Lays back just like #4, this one is a bit more specific with content, very easing. It has the ability to bring forth memories and nostalgia; which is a hard feat to accomplish for any type of music.
(7) Faith Hill "The Way You Love Me"(Radio Mix) B+. I enjoyed every minute of this song, and I dont even like country that much. The reason for that is that Faith Hill's powerful voice lends so much energy to the song, making it flow perfectly. This is one of those country songs that EVERYONE should hear.
(8) Dido "Here With Me" A-. The exact deep, emotional and touching work I expect from Dido. Unlike Britney or Christina, she never tries to hard, and just lets her songs work their magic. This is a very well done adult-pop ballad which is almost mesmerizing.
(9) Toni Braxton "He Wasn't Man Enough" A-. A strong, felt R&B song, Darkchild's production makes it one of her best; in the same league as "Un-Break My Heart". Darkchild's beat combined with Toni's fiery voice and style creates a winning cimbination for the listener.
(10) Christina Aguilera "What A Girl Wants" B. A light, catchy pop tune that just isn't anything new. It may a little too soft, yet you can't really complain too much when the song so willing to please. An enjoyable listen, even if it's unnessacary.
(11) Next "Wifey" A. This is the perfect blend of traditional and contemporary R&B. It has shades of hip-hop, yet its still very heartfelt and good natured. This is a sweet, blissful breeze of a song, which is remanisent of some of the best works R&B/rap by Arrested Development and Tony! Toni! Tone! from the early '90s.
(12) Debelah Morgan "Dance With Me" B-. The beat and style come close to saving the average material. She has a nice voice set to fiery beats, and despite moments of true inspiration; the song never fully picks up enough. Good, but could have been much better.
(13) Joy Enriquez "Tell Me How You Feel" C+. I can't complain about the song's listenability, it's fun, but forgetable. JUst like track #12, it's another dance song that needs some more ambition injected into it; it doesn't even come close to pushing any envelopes.
(14) Vitamin C "Graduation" A.This is THE anthem for ALL graduations. A spoken word song can be very dangerous (i.e. All Saints' disasterous "Never Ever"), but Vitamin C makes it work with stunning impact and dimension. Never before has a song summed up all the feelings from a graduation so nicely with such power and depth. It's a nice companion to Baz Luhrmann's "Everybody's Free (To Wear Sunscreen).
(15) The Corrs "Breathless" A. A perfect pop tune. Its light, catchy, fun and completely enjoyable. A triumph on both the vocal AND insturmental levels. The song is destined to put a smile on your face and warm your heart with beautiful lyrics and beats.
(16) Whitney Houston "Fine" B. It's not in the same league as "It's Not Right, But It's Okay" or "Heartbreak Hotel", yet it's impossible to dislike. It's just not a highlight of her long, impressive career. This also happened to be Whitney's last memorable single; as it's follow up became the awful "Watchulookinat" from "Just Whitney" (2002).
(17) John Michael Montgomery feat. Alison Krauss and Dan Tyminski "The Little Girl" B. The material is well done and touching, if not a little too Hallmark. It's a just like a "tearjerker movie"; purposly programmed to extract emotions, but isn't really heartfelt
Bottom Line: ***.The album is a nice summation of music back in 2000. My only complaint is the lack of hip-hop; where is Common's "The Light" and De La Soul & Redman's "Oooh"? That aside the album makes a perfect counter part to go along with "NOW 5". And as a flashback: it's just about perfect to bring back memories.

3 out of 5 stars This Is An Okay Cd!.......2004-07-08

This isn't the Now collection which has more hits and better songs and artists but it was pretty enjoyable. I like the first track by Madonna, because it is cool and retro. I do not like the music video though. The second track is another great track by Pink. At first I thought this was song was from Christina Aguilera, but I knew it had to be some one better. It is a cool mix of pop. This cd features some of my favorite artists like Dido,Christina Aguilera,Barenaked Ladies, and Matchbox Twenty. But the reward for best song goes to Faith Hill's The Way You Love Me. This is a great love song, a country song with a pop remix. It rocks!!! Later!

5 out of 5 stars Another Stew of Hits.......2003-11-15

Another great album by the "Totally Hits" folks. All these are actually hits, and most are multiple play worthy songs. "Wifey" "Tell Me How You Feel" and "Graduation" are the only ones I am either not crazy about or doubt their hit power. Other than that the album is great. I was greatly surprised to find Dido and John Michael Montgomery here, nice ones.

4 out of 5 stars I gave it now,but amazed now.......2002-04-19

If you into there,please get me.if you're not into strange,see you.couldn't care for less that much.or someone tell me into,please help me.I do like Pink's Most Girls,The Corrs's Breathless,Third Eye Blind's Deep Inside Of You,John Michael Montgomery's A Little Girl,and Dido's Here With Me.go get it!

9.)Barenaked Ladies:One Week- A The lyrics are strange, but this song is jammin!

10.)Third Eye Blind:Jumper- A+ My 2nd favorite from Third Eye Blind (1st fav is Blinded When I See You). A great song!

11.)Whitney Houston f/ Faith Evans & Kelly Price:Heartbreak Hotel- D- This song is too annoying and old to be on here. It just doesn't seem to work.

12.)LFO:Summer Girls- F LFO is the worst band ever!

13.)Five:When The Lights Go Out- A A very good song!

18.)Kid Rock:Bawidaba- B- Stale lyrics, but overall pretty good. Cowboy beats this song out of the water though.

4 out of 5 stars A Stable Collection Of Hits!.......2004-07-08

The first Totally Hits features a lot of top hits from superstar artists. I think is as good if not better than Now 3. TLC has the first track and they deserve it. No Scrubs was a huge, mega hit! That song is more popular than their record-breaking album! I also liked the slow Angel of Mine. This is Monica's best song and it is my second favorite song on this cd! Sugar Ray's Someday was a hit that doeen't make any since. It is slow and they sound like they're bored. Other bad tracks are Kid Rock's Bawitawba(I don't think I spelled that write),Santana's Smooth,NSYNC's A Little More Time On You, and 5ive's song. But I do like Cher,Whitney Houston,Madonna,Brandy,Usher,Deborah Cox,Faith Hill, and Barenaked Ladies. If you like R&B,slow pop,and little bit of rock you will love this cd.

5 out of 5 stars Good Collection.......2003-11-15

A good collection of the hits of 98-99. I was especially surprised at the inclusion of "Angel" and "This Kiss" (in a good way). I was impressed with the variety of music. Deborah Cox, Faith Hill, Madonna, Whitney, and McLachlan kinda steal the show, but not to any large degree, which is another big surprise. I was very happy to find no out of place "non-hits." a good collection for a good year.

3 out of 5 stars Pretty good! It's worth the money!.......2002-04-25

Here's my own opinion of the songs
1.)TLC:No Scrubs-Not the best by them, I liked this song a lot! 3.5/5
2.)Monica:Angel Of Mine-An OKAY song. I don't think Monica's very talented though.I think she should act instead of sing. I did like when she sang on the remix for "I've Got To Have It" by Jermaine Dupri on the Big Momma's soundtrack. 3/5
3.)Sugar Ray:Someday-Kind of boring, not bad though. 2.5/5
4.)Santana f/ Rob Thomas:Smooth- I HATE THIS SONG! WAY TOO OVERPLAYED!!!! 0/5

5.)'NSYNC:(God Must Have Spent) A Little More Time On You-Nice ballad, not the best by 'NSYNC though. 3/5
6.)Cher:Believe-Very good song! Probably one of the best by Cher 5/5
7.)Deborah Cox:Nobody's Supposed To be Here(Dance Mix)-Good dance song,not my favorite though. 3/5
8.)Madonna:Ray Of Light-Very cool song by Madonna. She did a good job on this! I love the video!4.5/5
9.)Barenaked Ladies:One Week-Pretty good song. I was hooked on this song when i first heard it on the radio. Kind of old though 3.5/5
10.)Third Eye Blind:Jumper-This is one of my favorites by Third Eye Blind. Good message about a guy who's friend commits suicide and he was trying to stop him from "jumping from that ledge." 5/5
11.)Whitney Houston f/ Faith Evans & Kelly Price:Heartbreak Hotel-I don't really like this song. I doesn't suck though. 2.5/5
12.)LFO:Summer Girls-This was LFO's first song. It's okay for a debut. Their newer songs on their second cd are better though. They kind of seem like wannabes here. 3/5
13.)Five:When The Lights Go Out-I LOVE THIS SONG! I'm hooked on Five, they have great party songs. It's sucks that they broke up. But hey, they enjoyed it when they could! 5/5
14.)Brandy:Almost Doesn't Count: Good song by Brandy! She has other good songs though, but she's cool. 5/5
15.)Usher:You Make Me Wanna-Pretty cool. This is one of the songs that Usher got popular by. 4/5
16.)Faith Hill:Good song! I'm beginning to like Faith Hill more. One of her good "gems."HA! 5/5

17.)Sarah McLachlan:Angel-Okay, a little boring. 2.5/5
18.)Kid Rock:Bawidaba-One of Kid Rock's good songs. Pretty tight though. 4/5

4 out of 5 stars Totally Hits=Totally Cool!.......2002-03-18

WOW!! This CD is so cool! I got it for my Birthday and it's so much fun to listen to! This "Totally Hits" CD covers the Year off well despite some mishaps on some of their songs...it's still a Great CD! TLC Opens up the CD with one of the most popular singles released that year, "No Scrubs" (Also written by Singer Kandi "Don't Think I'm Not")...followed by a similar sounding number "Angel of Mine" by Monica (The same producer Dallas Austin worked with both Albums "Fanmail" and "The Boy is Mine" so it's no wonder there is a similarity between the two) and Sugar Ray's best song lyric-wise "Someday" which was written by themselves. I must say the Highlight of the year was the suprising comeback of famed Guitarist Carlos Santana (From the band of his last name). Matchbox 20's Rob Thomas helps with writing the lyrics and singing vocals producing a killer combo! *N Sync gives us a taste of their slower side with the Boyz II Men-like "God Must of Spent ( A Little More Time on You)" which is no doubt their best single in their career, in flawless harmony. Like Santana, Cher gave us a suprising comeback as well with her hit single (and long time club anthem) "Believe." The well known remixer Hex Hector turns around Canadian R&B Star Deborah Cox's slowish and soothing "Nobody's Supposed to Be Here" with a Completely Different and upbeat Remix, adding some extra flare to the dance floor. Madonna also gives us a burst of techno with her upbeat heavy hit "Ray of Light." The Barenaked Ladies shine in their spotlight with the comical number, "One Week." After some years of absense Third Eye Blind successfuly returns to us with their metal guitar-heavy hit "Jumper." Soul Diva Whitney decides to take a dip into R&B and collaborates with R&B singers Faith Evans and Kelly Price in a song called "Heartbreak Hotel" which despite its name is Not an Elvis remake of his song by the same title. Unfortunatly we are tortured to hear the one hit wonders of Backstreet Boys and *N Sync copy-off's LFO and Five...fortunatly however the other songs compensate for these mishaps. By the way why aren't the Backstreet Boys on this album anyway? Thankfully, Brandy gives a shot with her last single from the multi plantum CD, "Never Say Never." Then-Newcomer R&B Star Usher Raymond appears with the Single that started it all- "You Make Me Wanna." After these two R&B Numbers, the CD takes us to the country scene with Cowgirl Faith Hill and her biggest hit "This Kiss." Sarah McLaughlin gives us a taste of Folk with her slow number, "Angel" and an unfortunat closure provided by Kid Rock. Was it really necessary? Sarah McLaghlan's song could've finished off the CD fine, as 18 tracks are a little much. If it werent for the unfortunate numbers by one hit wonders LFO and Five as well as Kid Rock, this CD would've deserved Five out of Five Stars...now it's just Four and a Half. dEFINATLY reccomended to any popular music fan.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars A must have for a eurodance fan........2001-11-04

I'm the biggest fan of the Bad Boys Blue, I know almost every single one of their songs by heart (from 15 albums!), and this is one of their best albums. "I totally miss you" has been remixed many times and is one of their biggest hits. "Have you ever had a love like this" is my personal favorite and is one of the best hi-nrg songs of all time. The rest of the album is very nice too. If you like Modern Talking, Fancy, C.C.Catch and other 80's eurodance bands, you'll love Bad Boys Blue. I think they are even better than Modern Talking because all the songs have their own tune (dance songs often sound all the same by the same band) and the lyrics are not as cheesy as most pop music goes. The best part, the music is so upbeat and danceable, it uplifts you instantly.

4 out of 5 stars If you like modern talking.......2001-01-03

This pop-group reminds me a lot of "Modern talking",so if you like that kind of music, you should buy this album. And if you like music from the 80's (in remixed versions) this should be the album for you.
