About the Artist
The well known Trevor Jackson is the first of the four music lovers presenting their precious on "I Like it Vol. 2". Owner of Output Records, home of groups like The Rapture, Mu, Lopazz and his famous Playgroup or Underdog projects. Also a gifted graphic designer and created masterpieces like the artwork of the last Soulwax album.

Next you will find the three beloved songs from Berlin based remixer, label owner (~Scape), musician, DJ, mastering engineer, promoter, and producer Stefan Betke aka Pole, known for his dubby releases (Mute, ~scape).

The next triplet of songs are the secret treasures in the collection of one of the most famous Austrian musicians: Richard Dorfmeister – no need to say more.

The final tracks are selected by Trickski (Compost, Sonar Kollektiv, Cabinet), the upcoming DJ-team from Berlin known for their groovy and innovative tracks and remixes.

Essential history.......2007-06-24

Hooray for Pavilion Records and all other organizations collecting early recordings and transferring them to CD for the world to enjoy! Of course since they are EARLY recordings (1917-1927) it has that fizzy wax sound to it and the lyrics get mushy at times. That either makes it endearing or annoying, depending on your perspective. It's lovely to finally hear the Brox Sisters sing again, let John Steel's tenor soar, and to hear what You'd Be Surprised sounded like sung by a girl. The earliest songs of Irving Berlin may not be his best, but are a refreshing glimpse into his 30s. Half of the songs on this disc debuted in Berlin's own Music Box Revue at the theater he built after WWI.

This CD is a real delight as Michael Feinstein is one of my favorite performers. He does a great job with this music by Burton Lane. I have both Volumns of music by Burton Lane and I enjoy listenting to both of these CD's

Great CD!.......2000-11-26

It took awhile for me to enjoy the songs on this CD, but once I did, I couldn't stop listening. There are romantic songs, funny songs, powerful songs. A little something for everyone. If you don't enjoy it at the first listen - don't give up! This CD will definately grow on you!

Entertaining Latin-Flavored Soundtrack.......2000-08-08

In continuing the film's central theme of a Latin family living in the Bronx, the filmmakers of "I Like It Like That" decided to release a second volume of music that devotes itself specifically to Latin music. While this volume contains two of the same songs that appear on the first volume, specifically "I Like It" by the Latin AllStars and "Si Tu No Te Fueras" by Marc Anthony, the soundtrack explores the many different styles of Spanish-language music many Latin artists have been expanding into.

On this collection, you'll hear a bit of Spanish-language rap ("Subeme El Radio," by Lisa M), a bit of Spanish-language reggae ("Manuel Santillan, El Leon" by Los Fabulosos Cadillacs"), to some Colombian Cumbia ("Cali Aji" by Grupo Niche) that reflects the versatility of Latin artists nowadays.

Tuna Medina's "Anda y Camina" and Julio Iglesias' version of "Guajira/Oye Como Va," is an excellent cover of a classic song. Although the soundtrack is good in my opinion, the soundtrack could have used additional songs that were in the film including "Perdon" by Danny Rivera, and the salsa song that is played when Lisette goes back to buy her wedding ring from the pawnbroker after landing a dream job.

Overall, this is a good selection of Latin-flavored songs from a great film about Latinos living on the mean streets. Give both volumes (in addition to the film) and enjoy a great listening experience full of great artists.

Composer, conductor, arranger Frank DeVol scored more than fifty movies and is best known as the composer for the theme songs for the TV series 'My Three Sons', 'The Brady Bunch' and 'Family Affair'. In the 1940s DeVol was an arranger for Dinah Shore, Tony Bennett, Rudy Vallee, Vic Damone and Doris Day. Frank DeVol received multiple Emmy Awards and Academy Award nominations for his extensive body of work. Irving Berlin's medleys featured are 'Always/Remember', 'A Pretty Girl/Isn't It A Lovely Day' and 'Say It With Music/Cheek To Cheek'. 24 tracks. Collectables 2003.

Of great historical interest to G&S fans.......1999-06-03

I've got it into my head somehow that the older a recording is, the closer it brings me to the original intentions of the composer. Walter Passmore's singing voice is 1 on a 1-to-10 scale...but oh what style he has! Gilbert always insisted that his words be heard and understood (hear that, ye modern singers who mumble into mikes?) and Passmore's enunciation is perfect. Workman had a far better singing voice, but he takes a good deal of liberties here and there. Still most people who will purchase this disc already own, no doubt, more modern recordings; and this one will take us on a time-trip back towards (though not quite to) the Victorian days that drew Gilbert's barbs and inspired Sullivan's melodies. And don't forget to look at Volume 1.
