This smart compilation from San Francisco trip-hop and acid-jazz label Ubiquity features 13 "downtempo" instrumental tracks from a variety of "progressive" DJs and sample-based producers. Q-Burns Abstract Message weighs in with "Last Stand," a blend of New Age-approved synthesizer washes and a tubby hip-hop groove. T-Cisco's gritty "Gritos" works the jazz-funk end of the spectrum, with scratchy wah-wah guitar and Motown bass supporting sonic storm clouds overhead. DJ Wally and DJ Swingsett's "Hungry in the Abstrakt" feels like a fever dream during a hot New York summer; voices, sirens, and rhythms shift in and out of focus, carried on a wave of synthetic drums. Molasses's gothic trip-hop anthem "Madness" suggests a remake of
The Exorcist with Ice Cube as the earnest priest. Otherwise, the disc is accessible but interesting, deep but well-behaved--the kind of trip-hop you'd introduce to your folks. Also features Bugs, Cut Chemist, Mumbles, and others.

Customer Reviews:
This CD!.......2007-05-29
Yeah, the title says it all. Songs from the seventies remixed with todays sound. I'll tell you how good this CD is. There are songs that I have heard on AM stations that are on this CD and just made me cringe. I hear them on this CD and its like I can actually listen to them and enjoy that the lyrics actually do make sense. They put the best two songs at the beginning, "Listen to the music" and "Summer breeze". It does stay interesting throughout most of the CD. I would have given it 5 stars but they actually have a group that recorded the title song of this CD and it is not a remake and I can tell why. It is a bad song. The rest of the CD is hip and its a CD that the kids and the parents will enjoy together.
FUN CD!!.......2007-05-22
I am a digital dj and it is hard to find remixes that aren't glorified house tracks. The songs on here are a great mix of some oldies, that have been handled carefully as to leave the song intact yet spice it up with a modern hip hop beat. I am very pleased with this buy and am looking for others.....Z-trip rocks.

What Is Hip Is Pretty Hip!.......2006-11-10
Well I really enjoyed listening to this CD especially the remix of Summer Breeze by Seals and Crofts. Listen To The Music by The Doobie Brothers is not to shabby either although they could have mixed in the catchy guitar riff a little more in the remix. The remix of Rod Stewart's Do Ya Think I'm Sexy is still sexy but I wasnt to thrilled about the remix of Whip It by Devo. I think the original is better. I enjoy listening to new mixes of popular songs as well as new versions of them by other artists. A good song is a good song, no matter who records it.
KILLER SOFTROCK REMIXING OF CLASSICS.......2006-06-28
Love these remixes because the original songs are kept intact and not redone or rerecorded or destoyed as with many remixes of classic rock songs. highly recommended. But where is volume 2?
THE BEST REMIX CD I'VE COME ACROSS SO FAR..........2006-06-14
... I get excited just thinking about all the great tunes in the Warner Brothers catalogue awaiting the remix treatment... Manfred Mann's Earth Band's "Blinded By The Light", Gary Wright's "Love Is Alive", Fleetwood Mac's "Rhiannon", Van Halen's "Dance The Night Away", Doobie Brothers' "China Grove", Alice Cooper's "I Never Cry"... heck, even some of Shaun Cassidy's hits would have terrific remix potential... so where's Vol. 2 already?

What's up with this record being on import? You can't get it domestically anymore? That would be a crying shame. Check the remixing of Donald Byrd's Kofi by The Angel, Guru's work on Eddie Harris's Listen Here and Michael Franti on Lonnie Smith. Gift of Gab from Blackalicious gets a special mention for his rhyme on the Jacky Terrasson track Mixed Feelings, produced by The Angel. The list goes on. Pick this up before it disappears completely.
Whoa!.......2002-04-24
I'm a 48 year old guy who has pretty much let hip-hop pass me by...which was just fine with me. But after hearing this Blue Note ReMix...wow...if your not jumping and moving to this music remixed from all time great jazz to hip-hop and acid jazz, you need new battiers for your hearing aid. Great!
Hip-Hop's History Lesson on Jazz......(3.5 stars).......2002-04-06
Hip Hop fans and Acid Jazz historians take note: The Blue Note Remix Project is a classic album released prior to the tidal wave of many 'Various Artist' acid jazz CDs and is definitely an album to be noted as an originator. The CD is based upon many famous jazz songs and has an impressive line up of album credits. The original jazz tracks were taken and then mixed and with samples added by hip-hop DJs, are transformed into good head-bobbing compiliation. Looking at the track listing any jazz fan will recognize the names as staples in the Jazz world. Special notation should be given to the smooth female vocals on "Kofi" [#1], the hip-hop treatment of the muted horn on "Listen Here" [#4], the paris-esque vibe of "Friends & Strangers" [#5], and the Ernest Ranglin-like slide-guitar-vibing and electronic organ keyboard on "Summer Song" [#7] which emits the best overall vibe of the entire album; no need for lyrics on this song...it's old school jazz-cool. "Move Your Hand" [#8] has Caribbean-rooted hip-hop lyrics while giving tribute to Otis Redding's "(Sittin' On) The Dock of the Bay". "Montara" [#10]provides some sultry and soulful female vocals to go along jazztastic xylophone work; it almost makes you forget about the head-bobbing bass that persists in the track. This is not an album for dance-aholics. Rave kids need not apply either. Jazz hipsters and hip-hop old schoolers stand up and pay attention. This album draws clear lines as to where hip-hop and jazz have in common; where one takes from the other and where the other is partly-based on the composition and history of it's counterpart. Hip-hop fans who think the "bling bling" is where it's at should take a history lesson. Ready? Class is in session....
Very Inventive.......2002-02-16
I didn't know what acid jazz was until I listened to this CD. It proves that rap song producers are the best remixers in the music business. I'm still waiting for the follow-up.
THIS IS REAL ACID JAZZ.......2001-09-07
This CD sets a standard for Acid Jazz Producers. It blends elements of hip/hop, rap and dance without destroying the original works. In fact I think they were able to enhance many of the tracks on this album thereby exposing a new generation of listners to the works of these great trend setting original artists. It really shows you that this "acid jazz" thing is really nothing new. It started long before many of the purchasers of this CD were born!

Also get "beautiful (the remix album)" import for alternate tracks and mixes........2007-03-10
The import version of this remix collection is a must-have for Blondie completists because it has remixes of some songs that are not on here, as well as alternate mixes of some of these track, so the track listing is slightly different. the tracks you will find on "Beautiful" that are not on here are:
1. Union City Blue (Diddy's Power & Passion Edit)
4. Heart Of Glass (Diddy's Adorable Illusion Mix)
5. Sunday Girl (The Hardly Handbag Mix)
6. Call Me (Debbie Does Dallas)
9. Hanging On The Telephone (Nose Bleed Handbag Mix)
If you also own all the maxi CD singles released at the time, you'll have a few of the mixes from the Beautiful release already, but it is a good place to get those mixes if you missed out on the CD singles.
one good track .......2005-05-06
Other than the genuinely great remix of Atomic by Diddy, the remixes here are highly forgetable. Most remixes completely miss the point of the orginal tracks and sound like they were slapped together very quickly for a quick buck. Avoid.
Oldtimer.......2004-11-24
I recently purchased this item and figure that this remix compilation is no longer in style. 2004 I still like Blondie, but I was disappointed during checkin' out this cd. I can mark only 2 songs that decent: trk 4. Atomic (Diddy's 12" mix) (back to many years I had that remix) and the only one song that kicks ass, is the last one: Fade Away And Radiate (108 BPM mix).
This cd can be recommended only for Blondie fanatics. I'd rather buy the "best of" with the original versions.
Blondie At The Club.......2003-07-20
Well, considering that we are in the new millenium, there are many DJ's outthere that are willing to remix the original gems much better. On the other hand, because they were made in 1995, these remixes have passed the test of time. My favorite and most outstanding remix is Ritchie Jones' version of "Heart of Glass". It is the only song on my computer that is worth taking up gygabytes from my harddrive. Diddy's "Atomic" is as well noticeable, but sounds more like a beat over the original song, something anyone is capable of doing with recent software. I'm not sure this remix project is the best I've heard, but it deserves the stars it gets for well thought-out remixes rather than randomnly thrown beat loops.
Great cd-only 4 stars for the double entry remix song tracks.......2003-02-17
Hello...
All in all this is a great remix cd... My fave being - "Heart Of Glass (Richie Jones Club Mix)", which also happens to be my fave regular Blondie track...
But because of the double entry remix song tracks...
1. Heart of Glass (Richie Jones Club Mix)
7. Heart Of Glass (MK 12in)
2. Dreaming (The Sub-Urban Dream Mix) Listen Listen
9. Dreaming (Utah Saints Mix)
3. One Way Or Another (Damien's Supermarket Mix)
4. Atomic (Diddy's 12in Mix)
10. Atomic (Armand's Short Cut Mix)
5. Rapture (K-klassic Mix)
6. The Tide Is High (Sand Dollar Mix)
8. Call Me (E-Smoove's Beat Vocal Mix)
11. Fade Away And Radiate (108 BPM MIx)
You get only get 8 different remixed songs instead of 11 different remixed songs... I understand that each remix is a unique mix in and of itself, but I prefer remix albums to have only one remix of each song (unless it's a cd single with a slew of remixes on it)...
So, all in all, if you love Blondie, I feel you will love this cd... I think they remixed her classic songs in a way that enhances them and brings them to the dancefloors of today without bring them down...
...peace...

Album Description
Don Tiki's new collection of exotic and danceable tiki tunes is brimming with haunting melodies and sultry undulating rhythms on 11 hypnotic tracks. Top DJs from around the globe remixed the tracks from their original releases, "The Forbidden Sounds of Don Tiki" and "Skinny Dip with Don Tiki" which included special guest artists Martin Denny, Lopaka Colon, and ukelele wizard, Jake Shimabukuro. The new album features the hit, "The Other Side of the Moon," remixed by Ursula 1000 of NYC as heard on the Samsung Electronic worldwide TV campaign. A review in Time Out/NY states, "Don Tiki have a sexy allure along with flair and a good sense of humor." The Honolulu Advertiser says, "Don Tiki captures exotic sounds, party spirit...this is Martin Denny for the Millenium!" This sensuous, flowing piece of work is an instant classic.
Customer Reviews:
not what i expected.......2005-01-10
Its my own fault really, I didn't listen to the music samples provided. This was suggested by amazon as a "Best Value" added to my purchse of a Pink Martini album. I assumed they would be similar. This album is nothing at all similar to Pink Martini. I wouldn't recommend it as an addition to one of those albums as Amazon is suggesting. its probably a really good album if you like this kind of music, just not my cup o tea.
Exotica for the Now Generation.......2004-08-31
As implied by the title, this is a remix of classic Don Tiki sounds, which pay homage to Martin Denny, Arthur Lyman and all the forefathers of exotica. Even repertory tracks have been mixed, reshaped, refined and re-invented by a coterie of top deejays - call it Martin Denny for the millennium - and the tunes take on new sass. Among the delights: "The Other Side of the Moon" by Ursula 1000 of New York, "An Occasional Man" by Keith Kandell of Los Angeles, "Bwana Banana" by Br Cleve's Bongo Congo Mix of Boston, "Polyamore" by Poi Dog Pondering of Chicago and "All Quiet Flows the Don" by 8FatFat8 of Chicago. There's a mix of sultry, intermittent vocals with inventive instrumentals. This is party music that collates a myriad of styles, from exotic jazz to ska, from funk to pop. Light the tiki torches, turn on the lava lamps, haul out the tiki mask and start groovin!'
Unique but tasty recipe.......2004-07-22
Every couple of years we are treated to a new neo-Exotica treasure from Honolulu's Don Tiki. The new album, Adulterated, is a remix project featuring 11 tunes from their first two albums.
Now I'm sure some of you are thinking this is a recipe for disaster (we are all too aware of failed "lounge" remix projects, right?). In this case, Don Tiki have done it the right way.
For the most part, the remixes stay true to the vibe of the original songs, so things are mellow and relaxing and not hyper and kinetic. Some good tracks in this mode are All Quiet Flows the Don, remixed by 8FatFat8, and Close Your Eyes, remixed by A Certain Frank.
Adulterated features three standout tracks, starting with DJ Jimmy B's remix of The Natives Are Restless. Now, we're big fans of the original song but Jimmy B's remix takes it up a notch. Extremely effective remix effects and nice spoken word pieces highlight this mix, along with chanting to die for. Br Cleve contributes a HiNRG "Bongo Congo" mix of Bwana Banana that somehow fits in even though this has a much higher BPM than the rest of the album. Lastly, Clutch Cargo Cult gets a great remix from 8FatFat8 that includes a nice rap by Julio Davis.
Now, things aren't all Mai Tai's for Adulterated. An Occasional Man has a syncopated remix style that I found annoying (honestly, I'm not a fan of the original version either) with several grating effects.
Overall, though, Adulterated delivers a unique brand of Exotica that could be featured in many discos without much notice. Don Tiki have done it again!

Kodo is a large percussion ensemble from Japan that has been refining the traditional drum art of Taiko for nearly two decades. While Kodo have recorded prolifically in their home country, they've released only a handful of discs in North America. In an attempt to bring the hypnotic music of Kodo into the 21st century, Sai-so presents 10 ambitious remixes from Ibuki, Kodo's critically acclaimed 1997 album, produced by Bill Laswell. Integrating beats, scratches, and recontextualized samples with the tension and release of Kodo's ancient drum compositions, this is an enthralling example of modern technology in musi-cultural synthesis. With heady remix contributions by Laswell, Japanese hip-hop artist DJ Krush, and a host of others, Sai-so is a pure rhythmic delight. --Mitch Myers
Customer Reviews:
Great collection.......2003-12-04
I noticed that a lot of the other reviews here were negative since this infact, was a remix album, and that it steered away too much from the typical Kodo sound. Well, guess what guys? This is a remix album and was meant to go to new ground. I really like this album mostly because it has some really fancy tracks. "Strobe's Nanfushi (Satori Mix)" is great, it's just groovy even if it's just drums and chanting. "Strobe's The Hunted (Kannagara Mix)" is even better because it's very uplifting, got a good beat and dancy -- something you could even try to play at clubs if you're a DJ! Great vibes. Then we've got DJ Krush's remix "Ibuki Reconstruction" and then even two remixes of the legendary Bill Laswell! Nice producers! Overall while some of the songs are lackster ("Wax On" tries to be cool but it's just not fat enough of a track. Still featured in the Bad Boys 2 soundtrack though...), it's a great buy if you want to hear to something new and fresh. A very interesting project indeed and just for the effort I want to give this CD 5 stars.
Oy! Not What I expected.......2001-06-07
What can I say....I love Kodo. But this was not Kodo. While I'm sure the remixer's, DJ's, Et`al, might have meant well...What they did to this album is a grave injustice to Kodo. The tracks were so remixed, distorted, folded, bent, stapled, and mutilated. That I thought the Postal Service had gone into the Music Recording Industry to supplement their profits... I couldn't tell if most of the tracks were based on Kodo's works or not for the most part... Next time Kodo allows remixers to use their works. They should definitely put it in the contract someplace. That the tracks should at least resemble their original compositions in a more identifiable fashion. I love techno as much as the next person, but this was even beyond my tolerance...Guess I'm just a purest at heart, when it comes to Kodo and their style of Tiako.
I adore Kodo, but this is more Techno than Taiko.......2001-03-16
I will say this: Kodo has taken an unprecedented step in allowing their music to be stretched, folded, and tweaked to the limits by some very talented DJs. I applaud their innovation. However, this is not for someone who dislikes Techno/House music. If you enjoy Kodo and Taiko drumming, you may still not enjoy this CD. I would recommend listening to the samples that are available on Amazon.com first. There are Taiko "chunks" and "flavors" throughout the CD, but I feel that it any percussion played by some very talented artists could have provided that same material. This is a **Techno** CD that's different from other Techno CDs, not a **Taiko** CD that's different from other Taiko CDs.
which came first, the drum or the drum machine?.......2000-10-10
I am a big fan of Kodo and felt that the various DJ masters on this project meant well, but over did it. The first track was fabulous and felt very tribal, but then as the CD played on, the disco/house beats got heavier and heavier and drowned out the acoustic drums. I felt that there was a real disconnection with the DJ's mixes and wondered if they were really listening to the original versions and trying to create a balanced, innovative mix, or if they simply 'poured' a synthetic rhythm over it. I found that I preferred the 'non-techno taiko' after listening to this CD.
Excellent music for the Martial Artist!.......1999-11-25
I use this CD, along with Afro Celt V-2 as training music in my dojo. Tracks 1,2,5 & 10 have fantastic intensity for a workout. This is some of the most powerful music I've encountered. If you train or do Tae Bo, try on this CD! (I'll be trying skiing to it this winter, hope I don't kill myself in the process!) ENJOY!

Album Description
Reviewer: C. Pierce Jr. Wow, I can't say enough to explain myself in explicit detail on how incredible this project is. You listen to the remixes to untouched original music and additional overlay of sounds and it's like being on an exploratory journey through heaven. This cd is highly recommended. I am kind of sad I can't rate higher than 5 stars, LOL. Sincerely, if you love pink floyd you need this cd. This cd sounds like it should. Thanks Floydhead! This cd is by far the best cd I have ever owned and for insight I have well over 500 cds and many many favorites, but from the moment you press play on this disc it's an instant "oh my" which follows with a giant smile and awe. I can't say enough except thank you so much for your extroadinary artistic abilities. . 80 MINUTES OF PURE INTOXICATING AND ADDICTING SOUNDS. . "Inventive and Avant-Garde. The mystery, the awe, and the complex thought behind the original songs have been kept intact. As an abstract painter from the renaissance portrays his view of timeless objects, I have done so with the music of Pink Floyd." . "I was inspired to experiment with electronica...to mold these pieces using various shades of trance music, dance music, catchy-grooves, progressions, psychedelia, and conceptual art-based music. All-the-while maintaining a marginal pop-music structure." .

And now for something completely different..........2006-05-11
Seeing as there are some mixed reviews of this CD below, I thought I'd post what my reviewer Kris (who's a big electronic music fan) wrote for Djfix.com/Raves.com since it goes into a bit more detail... "And now for something completely different. (Look, I know it's a stretch but Monty Python and Pink Floyd are both British so .... yeah, it's a stretch ... but this is completely different, for sure.) This is the third edition of the Floydian Propulsion Project, which takes classic tracks by the prog/space rock band and does something weird with them. For starters, "Heartbeat, Pigmeat" is here regurgitated as a moodyspooky downtempo piece of darktechno assertion featuring a few vocal samples. "Hey, You" is a little more pacey, but still subdued. Its source material is recognizable (with snippets from the original version) but spun through an electronic, nighttime flavor as it descends into space (yes, I meant to say that). From there it's on to the disco-y dubbish spin on "Any Colour You Like," easily one of the disc's strong tracks. Luscious chillout. "Is There Anybody Out There" gets an evocative, pretty treatment that's uberspacey and yet laced with organic quality; another strong track that recedes into a repetition of the title vocal line. Next up is a reworking of "Another Brick in the Wall Part I," with electronic ambience building into a variation of the classic guitar line from this song and featuring some groovy beats to build the layers, along with Floyd vox. "Terminal Frost" is presented in dark, somber form, almost prog meets chillout industrial, if that makes any sense. This builds and creates a thick but expansive dome of sound, functioning with a blend of subtlety and push. "One of My Days" functions as a brief segue into "A New Machine," a brooding, pulsing piece. The sampled cry "Pigs in Spaaaaaaace!" leads us into this disc's version of "Pigs on the Wing," a blend of organica and electronica and somewhat lighter in feeling than batches of the shadowmood to be found here; yet, melancholia hints. A noteworthy track. "Drooling and Raving" is a bit of experimental sound/music collage that proves to be engrossing. Electro-industrial seems to be the choice for "Signs of Life" ... at least that's what you think until the dub influences kick in. An interesting and compelling number. "Two Suns in the Sunset" is another fusion of organic and electronic and is one of the sunnier notes herein until the militaristic turn toward the end. "If" commences with tribalesque workings with mystic/psychedeclic overtones and quickly catches one's attention. Iron Butterfly comes to mind a little, if they were less bombastic and had lots of spacious world flavor. One of the odder (by virtue of comparison as it's actually one of the more, eh, normal songs on this CD) numbers is "The Pink Anderson Gangsta Blues." Dance stylings finally show up on the psytrance reworking of "Keep Talking," one of my favorite numbers here. Then things get kinda out-there with the revamp of "Several Species of Small Furry Animals Gathered Together in a Cave and Grooving with a Pict." The name of the mix on this one I just have to share: "More Than a Few Classes of Diminutive Hiraute Organisms Amassing as one in an Astral CAvern and Rocking-Out with a Monolith whilst Avoiding a Quantum Hyperspace Paradox". Quite trippy and ubercool. Floyd's attack on the record industry, "Have a Cigar," gets a totally wicked synthpop/trance take. Excellent. Vocal effects make this one wild and point back to 80s strangeness and forward to electronica's tomorrow. A solid, deleriously tasty track. "Obscured by Clouds" reaches us as buzzing, dark techno with elongated guitar lines. "Let There Be More" almost comes off like bossa nova meets spooky-spooky doings. Finally, "Publius Enigma" functions as an noise collage outro. While this isn't the strongest tribute/remix/redfine release I've ever come across, it is nonetheless a strong effort, with engaging tracks and enough variation and eclecticism to fend off boredome indefinitely. Concept/creation by Seth with remix contributions by Ste-V, Michael Alan, DJ Jimmy Rad and Hainkm."
walk away slowly . . . ........2006-02-02
Not Pink Floyd. Not worth the listen. Wish I had my money back.
Sometimes we make mistakes, and this one sure was. Too bad.
Not what it appears to be........2006-01-23
Do not be fooled by these reviews. This is not what every floyd fan should have, not even close. It might be fine for people who enjoy techno music, and if thats what you like, then go for it. I bought it, listened to it, and gave it away.
A must for any Pink Floyd fan!.......2005-12-13
Superb CD! A must for any Pink Floyd fan! Looking forward to hearing more albums from this artist in the future!

Phillippe Cohen Solal clearly enjoys pushing boundaries, having already shown the dance music universe just how flexible a tango rhythm can be on Gotan Project's 2001 release La Revancha Del Tango. Inspiracion-Espiracion doesn't do anything new, exactly, but this sprawling mix of new tracks, remixes, guest DJs, Astor Piazzolla, and poetry readings doesn't lack for audaciousness. With a soulful mixer like Solal at the wheel, it's a pretty smooth ride; a reinterpretation of Chet Baker's "Round About Midnight" segues into the beat-driven "Confianzas" like a darkening sky giving way to moonlight. Downtempo master Peter Kruder shows up as well, to weave a little football commentary into his remix of "Triptico," while Solal returns the favor (but without the football) on "The Man" (from Kruder's Peace Orchestra release). Last but not least, check out the bonus CD, featuring a previously unreleased GP track and a video from longtime visual collaborator Prisca Lobjoy. -Matthew Cooke
Album Description
The follow-up to their critically and commercially successful "La Revancha Del Tango" release of 2003 is a double CD remix featuring Chet Baker and Astor Piazzolla, along with Peter Kruder, Anti-Pop Consortium, and Calexico remixing Gotan Project songs. The second disc contains a brand new track and ten minute enhanced video. Gotan Project draws on the African roots of tango and takes inspiration from Argentinian folk and the urban intensity of Buenos Aires, with its melancholy, women, cocaine, and indestructible, immortal tango.
Customer Reviews:
Not what I expected.......2006-06-02
I bought this CD because of La Revancha Del Tango and was disappointed. While I appreciate their desire to not make all their CD's sound the same, most of it was too different for my liking. I have never liked music that begins with talking and interviews, it sounds like someone held a tape player to the radio and walked away. I will give them one more chance though.
Unlistenable in places ..........2006-04-11
Following their superb album "Revancha Del Tango," I purchased this CD without listenenig to it. This one is a disappointment in several places, not the least of which is the ridiculous rap remix, "M.A.T.H." by Al-Shid (the quality of that one rhymes with his name). Why would these excellent musicians persume that someone who likes their tango remixes would necessarily like to listen to a rap remix? In any case, whereas the remainder of the CD is certainly not up to the quality of "Revancha Del Tango," it does shine in places, expecially their take on Chet Baker and "Triptico." Even their (yet again) re-remix of "Santa Maria" is an excellent addition to this collection. Nonetheless, if you're a fan of Gotan because of "Revancha Del Tango," take a pass on this one and have a listen instead to their follow up, "Lunatico." It's bound to be better.
Misinterpreted by most.......2005-05-11
"La Revancha Del Tango" is the blueprint to some of these tracks and I suggest you get them both. However, to truly appreciate this CD and the Gotan Project you must have some background in the early South American bohemian music derived from Europe and Africa (Tango, Milonga, Chacarera, etc).
It's amazing that they picked Chet Baker's version of "Round About Midnight" over it's original, but it's brilliant because it would not be as fitting otherwise. Mixing hardcore rap lyrics with classical tango has not been done by anyone else and to add some more creativity.. The bonus CD will have you moving.
I love this CD because I grew up lisening to Tango, I appreciate mastered rap and love Miles.
mediocre.......2005-03-22
two good tracks and much in the way of attempts to be cutting edge... and falling short.
Great!!!.......2004-11-04
This album is absolutly out of this world; the mix of trip hop, jazz (the Chet Baker cover is beatiful), hip hop and, the main character, tango is just amazing. Imagine Astor, Anibal, the voices of the outskirts of Manhattan (were I've told the hip-hop was born) and Peter Kruder having a joyfull, solid, ethereal, fruitful conversation.
Just give it a listen...

Beware!.......2007-01-26
This is not Charlie Parker, this is a terrible concoction. I didn't read carefully, bought the wrong CD. This is just a lot of modern garbage that sounds worse than radio static. I wanted a Parker CD because he plays a King Super 20, two members of our household play that sax. But you won't hear The Bird on this CD. Really misleading to write "BIRD UP" on the label!
just not fun.......2006-08-08
I'm not a big fan of this album. Why? It isn't because I hold Charlie Parker in a pantheon of untouchable greats--I think anyone and everyone should be open to being remixed, no matter how venerable their status in the halls of music. No, the reason I don't like this album is because it seems like the remixers didn't care about the music they remixed--a good remix compliments the original, it doesn't just cut and paste certain moments from old songs. you've got to find that original spirit and soul thats in the work, the original "wow" moment, and lend your voice to the chorus--every song that is being remixed is a communication from the artist (charlie parker) to the audience as a whole--they are trying to tell us something--something about what it means to be alive and human--a remixer's job is not to just take old recordings and make them totally new and hip. a remixer's got to be saying, "oh yeah charlie, I understand, here's what your song said to me, here's what your song meant to me"--most of those songs on this album feel like some electronic guy who's never cared about charlie parker a day in his/her life just got a cd in the mail with directions to "remix it"--so he goes about cutting and pasting random parts into places in some pre-thought-out electronic/hiphop song that has nothing to do with the original--and that's too bad--another complaint I have is that they use original, poor audio quality, recordings--remixing these with high production sounds produces a clashing mix--now I know that this is suppossed to pay reverence to Mr. Parker himself, but the difference in sound quality between the old sounds and the new sounds becomes a somewhat grating experience--either make the new sounds sound like old ones, or rework the old sounds to the same level of fidelity
Depends On Your Taste.......2006-07-11
This disc really didn't do too much for me. Keep in mind that doesn't mean that you shouldn't buy this because this is very much going to be an individual preference type thing. It just wasn't my cup of tea, that's all. So my rating is solely based on my personal experience and should not deter those who feel they would be interested in this.
There have been some flames thrown between reviewers on this album so let me just say this: I think it is great that these guys got together and decided to do a tribute to Charlie Parker. I would also hope that people would purchase Bird's original recordings as well so they can get an idea of what his music was really like and hopefully get an idea of how much of a true genius the man was. There have been complaints of snobbery by other reviewers and an unwillingness of older generations to accept the music of younger generations. I will say this: I am a musician and in my mid twenties and I will freely admit that when it comes to snobbery in music my generation and the ones younger than me tend to be the snobs most of the time. There are so many younger people nowadays who have no knowledge (and don't care to learn about) the musicains that came before them. That truly is a shame because we must always keep in mind that if it wasn't for those who came before us, we wouldn't be here. And I do agree with the statement that music today is way too much about image and not about making good music. I also agree with the statement that house and hip hop have their roots in jazz. Now here's another question for you: Before you go ripping on older people for not realizing that house and hip hop came out of jazz, how many younger people today know that those musical forms have their roots in jazz and could name any of those great jazz musicians that came first and paved the way for the house/hip hop guys out there today?
Finally, there's been the question of whether or not Bird would have liked this recording. Would Bird have approved of this recording? Who can say? He's not here to give his opinion and I'm not going to go putting words into the man's mouth.
Snobs Ahoy!.......2006-03-06
I am very disappointed at the pervasive negativity here. It's a real shame there are so many narrow-minded snobs (namely one "Jay from Chicago") who are so foolishly set in their ways, that they think anything new, modern, or part of a "younger generation" is automatically inferior to the one or two styles of music they so foolishly limit themselves to. Styles like hip hop and electronica evolved from jazz, and only the most ignorant of "music fans" would claim there's no talent or creativity within these styles.
Anyone who is willing to stop shouting "Blasphemy!" long enough to actually LISTEN to the damn thing should be able to see that this is a reverent, and very well-made tribute. With artists like Dan the Automator, Serj Tankian, El-P, RZA, and Hubert Laws, there's a wide variety of interesting sounds here. Hal Willner's Whoops I'm an Indian (cool name, isn't it?) make some particularly noteworthy contributions as well.
So, all of you who possess an open mind, and aren't hopelessly lost in the past, I urge you to give this a chance. Hell, I bet even Charlie himself would approve of this work, despite what the old-timers may want to believe. After all, the true essence of jazz was all about looking to the future, not the past.
Forgettable.......2005-10-17
When I got this, I thought the basic concept seemed interesting. This album, however, has left me totally underwhelmed. Some of the cuts are nice, but most of it is uninteresting. Here is an example complaint: On "Cheers," the X-excutioners are skilled at their turntables, but they don't show any imagination because all they do is mimic the original melodic lines. So, the result of this album is no good. Also the liner notes really suck. The writer, Touré, uses an absurd amount of hyperboles, mixed metaphors, and braggadocio.
I suppose you could look elsewhere for remixed jazz. Although I suggest a few orignal Parker albums instead.

dissapointing!.......2007-03-09
most of the remixes on this cd sound really out of date, instead of all this remixes they should have made a compilation with the original full length 12" mixes, especially for "This is my night" wich original mix is far better then the remix (and not available on cd until ....???). Many great remixer names are involved in this project, but in 2007 the original 12 inch versions still sound better!!!.
Chaka Khan Life is a Dance Remix.......2006-11-10
Chaka Khan has done a remix of many of her tunes that where above outstanding during the disco dance fever of the 1970's. However, I have recently purchased a CD from Amazon.com called "Chaka Khan, Life is a Dance: The Remix Project". If rock pop music can be called classical then this particular creation of Chaka Khan and her musician associates can be truly considered classical. One can not merely sit down and keep still while this music is playing, in particular if you are in a dancing mood in the first place, celebrating or just feel good and want to dance. In the same instance, the remix is so skillfully directed and produced, if you just wanted to sit down and really enjoy this music for its composition as music this kind of attitude would be highly applicable as well.
GUARANTEED TO GET YOUR PARTY STARTED!!!.......2005-05-06
This cd is a wonderful mix of not only the best of Chaka's hits, but the best of Chaka's voice. All of the songs have been remixed with a lot of bass, funk, and Chaka's vocals sent into chambers that blow the top of your head off and occasionally echo back.
The opener "Life Is A Dance" perfectly describes the hot mood within it. "I Know You, I Live You" goes to the max. Far more artistically arranged than the original! The wildly funky "This Is My Night" rocks with additional keyboard and percussion programming. "Eye To Eye" is a hot remix of a great song that becomes over 8 minutes of pulsating dance number. "Fate" is transformed into a cooking production number. The infectious percussion in "I'm Every Woman" coupled with the orchestral strings catapults this number way beyond the original version! And it's over 8 minutes long as well! "Clouds" blows a thunderous stormy arrangement right into a steamy 7.40 minutes of WOW!! The finale of "I Feel For You" far surpasses the original hit that everyone loves so much. When you end with this song, you will hit repeat and start the whole cd over again!
This one is a must for every Chaka fan. You will want to play it again and again!!
Underrated remix project.......2003-04-23
The remixes done are wonderful and 1989 was a great year to pick for remixes for Chaka Khan. If remixes had been done now, it probably wouldn't even be worth the purchase. Pretty much all new remixes base themselves on the repetitive techno beat, which I find takes away the funkiness of the original production and mood of the song. This was also a good release because these are urban remixes. These are club/street songs that work perfectly for Chaka Khan. There are also some rare gems on here that are hard to find on CD anywhere else. "Slow Dancin'" is from her 1982 self-titled album that won a Grammy for best R&B album. I find it strange that since it won a Grammy that it's currently her rarest album to find now in her catalog of music. It would've been awesome if a remix of "What Cha' Gonna Do For Me?" was included. That would've been slammin' baby!
Chaka Chaka Khan Grooves.......2000-08-18
This one is a keeper. I bought it in vinyl, cassette, and now CD. If you are looking for energy music, this ol'school grooves with the best that today offers. "Eye to Eye" is my favorite and never fails to energize me. "I'm Every Woman" is a must listen and smacks Whitney down. Great music.

Massive!.......2003-12-17
This is a brilliant album for any audiofile who really is a fan of mix-type trance/dance music. As with anything some tracks are slightly better than others but that is summed up by saying some rate as 10/10 while others are "just" 8,9/10 songs. This one is definately a mood motivator, which is why I generally listen to music, to create a given mood. Great driving music--listened to this for about 6 of 9 hours on a drive a back from Canada as did my best friend in his car. I look forward to picking up anything by DJ Harry just based the work on this disc!!!
Turning me on to a new genre of music.......2002-05-30
DJ Harry is ahead of his time with this remix. I have heard him spin many times live and his range of music is extremely diverse. He has the ability to pick out the quality sounds in whatever genre of music he can get his creative hands on. This album is no different, concentrating on the jam band groove. I dont consider myself a SCI fan, but DJ Harry has made me appreciate their sound and his vibe in an impressive mix that has lasting appeal. NIce work Harry!
Kinda like raving in the parking lot at a dead show..............2002-03-07
I have been into house music for over 10 years and I just saw my first String Cheese show a few months back..???...I wish sooner! I cannot get enough of them now. When I stumbled across this cd , I was extremely excited & more so when I listened to it. DJ Harry is awesome! Buy this CD!!!!!
Jam Band meets Techno.......2002-01-25
This album perfectly blends two contrasting, yet equally popular types of music. The Jam Band genre of String Cheese, reminiscent of the Dead, is something we would not normally associate with the recently popular Techno. However, DJ Harry does an incredible job spinning to these sounds. I would recommend this album, and more importantly, recommend more DJ's to spin Jam Band music, such as Widespread. On a related note, if you like this album, look on the Internet for such remixes as Pleasurehead doing renditions of Guns 'n' Roses and Van Halen.
A Must Have!.......2001-07-18
DJ Harry blends the acoustic sounds of jamband music with detailed electronic programming to deliver an incredible album. I enjoy String Cheese Incident's music, but am more of a dance music fan and I highly recommend this album for anyone who wants a continuous dance jam of mountain-top soul.
I'm usually against buying electronic producer's albums because I don't like the pauses in between songs: DJ Harry has eliminated this by "String"-ing the songs together in a delicious earful of a mix; it's brilliant.
Buy this album, it defines an entire new genre of dance music and I'm sure we'll see more Organica beats from electronic producers in the future.
