    Album Description

"Montana Skies"--cello and guitar--This CD is an homage to the "road trip". Not only the literal road trip, but also the metaphorical "road trip" of life. We've learned a lot on both so far, but mostly we've learned that it's never about the place, but always about the people. Much of this music was written and arranged on our cross country tour in the spring of 2004 and draws from the sights and sounds that we absorbed as we crisscrossed the US. We hope you'll enjoy the ride...

    Customer Reviews:

    5 out of 5 stars Innovative.......2007-05-19

This duo is one of the most innovative and creative ensembles performing today. The cello/guitar combination is refreshing and inventive. Rich textures and imagery abound. Great music; highly recommended.

5 out of 5 stars Expressive, Engaging, and ExtraOrdinary!.......2005-03-10

With beautiful sound, Montana Skies flawlessly combines cello and guitar into melodies that depart from the ordinary classical. One can feel the passion they have for their music. The music resonates within one, long after the last note. I find myself humming the tunes all the time! There is something for everyone on this album. In these stressful times I use it at work and in the car to relax and detach from the hectic day-to-day. Aptly named "Chasing the Sun" brings some sun into my day every time I play it.

5 out of 5 stars Must-have album for acoustic lovers!.......2005-01-23

This album is the follow-up to their self-titled debut, and it is just as fun, melodic and enchanting as the first...only better. Truth be told, I am a musician myself have begun touring with these guys, tagging along wherever I can as their pianist....that's how much I enjoy their music and working with them! This CD is a great addition to your acoustic collection and a great way to discover Montana Skies. I keep this CD in my car and find myself turning it often on a long drive.

3 out of 5 stars BE AWARE THAT THIS LABEL PUBLISHES ON CD-R's!.......2004-04-04

This comment is about the label - Hot Productions -
be aware that their CDs (in particular, "The House..."
are actually CD-R's that many players (especially
car CD players and a number of DVD players) do NOT
play. I do NOT know if this is so about their other
CDs. We all know how to make such CD's at home :)
If their prices were 25%-30% of what they are,
it would be OK. Legal issues is their problem :)

5 out of 5 stars The BEST version of this song........2002-02-08

The Santa Esmeralda versions of The House of the Rising Sun and Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood are the reason those are two of my favorite songs. SE is representative of what was great about disco. This is definitely a club classic.

    5 out of 5 stars Amazing!.......1999-12-09

Some of the earliest memories I have are of hanging out in my family's living room listening to this album loud enough to wake the neighbors (my parents were party animals even then!). Then I had a radio show in college a couple of years ago, and so I dusted off my parents' old LP of this album and played it one night. The response was immediate and enthusiastic--"we want more!" So, "House of the Rising Sun" became the disco anthem of the 1990's for a small, sleepy southern college town, a phenomenon which is proof that great music really does stand the test of time.

5 out of 5 stars The best House of the Rising Sun!.......1999-08-08

I borrowed this album 19 years ago from my sister and never returned it!! She found the CD on Amazon and sent it to me. Listened to it after not hearing it for several years and fell in love with it again! The greatest version of The House of the Rising Sun you will ever hear. Enjoy!

5 out of 5 stars This is totally rocking music!.......1999-04-10

For some reason there are a number of releases under the Animals name that are complete forgery. I bought this piece of crap at a TOWER RECORDS!!!. These arent the original songs and probably not even the same band. The sound quality is horrible and on top of that these covers are horribly executed. It sounds more like a bad lounge singer. DO NOT BUY if you see this anywhere!!

        1 out of 5 stars ARRGGG!.......2005-03-31

Dear God burn it, burn it! Holy Hell, i have no idea what these people did to these songs but they sound like crap. This is an aweful cd, it's just a collection of some of The Animals most well known songs, which have somehow been "digitally remastered" to grate on your eardrums. It's not even Eric Burdon and The Animals who sing the songs on the cd, it's some moron with a synthesizer. My God they should all be burned and sent back to Hell where they belong.

1 out of 5 stars This is ridiculous!.......2005-01-23

I echo the sentiments of all the other reviewers. I did not buy this CD on Amazon.com, but it was an impulse buy while browsing in a local used CD store. I was lured by the cheap price. I usually research reviews and "try" before buying by getting CDs from the library. Needless to say, I will be returning this. There are no liner notes with musician/songwriter information. Anyone with even a casual knowledge of music will recognize that this is not The Animals, but a canned, synthesized cover band. What an insult to The Animals, musicians, and music fans!

1 out of 5 stars MOTHER F***IN PIECE OF S***.......2004-06-29

Yes, this cd is a scam! I think u get the point by past reviews, but I need a way to cope with my anger, after getting this cd. I bought this cd with weeks of allowance money, and was soo pissed in the car hearing it after I first got it. It is (...), and the people who made it should be shot. It is so misleading and.(...) u get the picture!(...)

1 out of 5 stars WHAT IS THIS PIECE OF ****?.......2004-04-29

I got this cd expecting to hear The Animals, since it does have their name and an old picture of them on the cover (One would believe that's what they were getting when buying this CD). Instead it ends up being an imposter poorly imitating the lead singer's vocals and sounds like some guy playing on a keyboard synthesizer down in his basement. This CD is CRAP! DO NOT BUY IT!!! This cd should get a negative 5 stars.

3 out of 5 stars Simply not THE ANIMALS.......2003-05-29

The tracks on this CD are 1990's recording by a group formed and fronted by Danny McCulloch (bassist with Eric Burdon & The Animals in late 1960's) ... calling itself THE ANIMALS but containing no other 1960's members of The Animals or Eric Burdon & The Animals. Interesting re-recordings of 1960's hits made famous by The Animals and Eric Burdon & The Animals plus enjoyable new songs by McCulloch and Co but simply not THE ANIMALS and no Eric Burdon vocals on this CD.

            Album Description

Hilton Valentine, guitarist in the Animals' classic 1963-1966 linup, and auteur of those arpeggios that gave the band their massive "House of the Rising Sun" breakthrough, recorded a solo album, All in Your Head, for Capitol in 1970. There's no sophomore slump evident on Valentine's new solo set where he's billed as Skiffledog, both to ward off inferences that this is some nod to Animals nostagia, and to salute the event that made him take up guitar in 1956, when the Lonnie Donegan-centered skiffle craze laid the foundation for the British Invasion. Valentine's never been entirely copacetic with the horns & strings cat clothes Capitol layered over his minimalist folk songs of 1970, to tart them up for the style-conscious airwaves, so he's (re-)undressed two of those tunes, "Run Run Run" and "Peace" for the new set, and they just gleam in the nakedness of Hilton's acoustic guitar and his somewhat-Donovan-like vocals. Two songs which directly address the fog of! class war that produced these intense ravers from the North - Valentine's own "River Tyne," and his cover of John Lennon's "Working Class Hero" - are hauntingly compelling in their understated anger, in their invocation of that same coal-dusted heart that drove the Animals' best songs. But Valentine's his own man now, per the "Looking To The Sun" existential credo that opens the album and frees the Skiffledog from the "House" that once contained him. Vintage liner photos of Valentine's earliest gigs polish off this prime package. - Richard Riegel Harp Magazine

            Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Hilton's CD is a breath of fresh air!.......2005-08-18

I finally, gladly, bought this album after a long period of saving my pennies and I am not disappointed. I admit, I'm a big fan of the Animals and Hilton's guitar playing but I'll try my best not to be biased. The production is clear and crisp and Hilton Valentine's vocals are as soft and melodic as gently buffeted meadow. Every piece on the album stands alone and is lyrically strong, and the instrumentals are also extremely captivating. I could listen to this for hours (and have been since it arrived in the post) and it's a real breath of fresh air when considering the way the bulk of music is these days; mass produced, regurgitated, reengineered, remixed and getting mighty stale. It also goes to show that an older style of music can still be highly listenable without being mawkish, pretentious or embarassing. I think this album will appeal to all ages, especially to those with an ear for real, good, down to earth, honest music and lyrics. If you're into the guitar, you'll love this album, if you're into lyrics, then likewise. I really hope Hilton gets another album out soon and it's great to know he's keeping music real. I highly recommend this album even if you're not really sure about folk or skiffle, or even if you don't know what skiffle is. This is a truly great album. Nice one Hilton!!!

5 out of 5 stars Brilliant from beginning to end.......2004-09-04

This CD is amazingly beautiful. I can listen to it over and over and still not have enough. I'm sure you will love it as well. It's music that can make you feel better about yourself and the world.

            5 out of 5 stars What can I say? It's Folk 'N' Skiffle, Mate!.......2004-08-26

This CD has a great deliverance. The songs are fun and full of depth. It will guide you into an era that we cannot visit today. They are wonderfully sung by Hilton Valentine with his soft British accent. I recommend this CD to anyone who appreciates a good sound that is separate from the rest!

            5 out of 5 stars Wonderful CD!.......2004-07-23

The music on this CD is pretty much what the title states. It has some folk and it has some skiffle. House of the Rising Sun was a folk song, so Hilton isn't really that far off from the music that made him a Rock and Roll Hall of Famer. It's fantastic to finally hear the voice behind that famous guitar intro. If you like early Donovan, you should like this CD. He even covers one of his tunes. The best tracks on the CD are Looking To The Sun, Peace and his version of the John Lennon classic, Working Class Hero. My favorite though has to be River Tyne. It has a GREAT solo; arguably the best of his career! Maybe he put that in there just to let us know he hasn't forgotten how to rock!
