Packs into 5 CD's a sampling of Broadway tunes from the 20's thru (almost) today, mostly from original cast recordings. Includes not just well-known hits, but also some lesser-known gems. Sound quality is first rate, booklet is informative too. Have given this as a gift to several friends with rave reviews.

This is THE definitive collection of Broadway hits. I have other collections, and none of them measure up. A great deal of care was obviously taken in compiling and presenting this box set. It covers a lot of ground, starting with some long-forgotten but still very enjoyable hits from the days of yore, and finishing with present-day favorites. To the best of my knowledge, the recordings are by those who made them famous. You won't be disappointed.

This thoughtful and varied program of hymns, Shaker songs, anthems, and spirituals shows what good things can happen when a top-rank choir and director and an accommodating record company join in such a project. The 20 selections come from a variety of sources, including The Southern Harmony (published in 1834) and The Sacred Harp (published in 1844). The Shaker tunes are from the vast collections at New Lebanon and Pleasant Hill, New York, and Sabbathday Lake, Maine. Four of the six spirituals and several of the hymns are arrangements by Alice Parker; others are arranged by James Mulholland. The best choir out there.......2004-03-02

The Kansas City Chorale is a SUPERIOR vocal group. I am impressed by its large and wholesome sound that is produced by such a small group. The Alleluia CD is beautiful and also very diverse. "Sing me to Heaven" is gorgeous. The harmonies are beautiful on the page, but are even more beautiful when sung by this ensemble. "Alleluia" is also wonderful, and I was impressed by their interpretation of the many shaker songs and spirituals. This cd is a MUST HAVE for any choral singer or enthusiast.

My choir sang "Alleluia", and used this recording to learn the dynamics. A brilliant performance of that piece. The others are, too, excellent. Good balance, dynamic, and overall sound. But the "Alleluia" really stood out for me.

An Excellent CD.......2002-01-23

My pastor bought me this CD and I wasn't sure I'd really like it. Chorale music? You must be joking. But I popped it into my CD player at home and was immediately astonished at what I heard. The Kansas City Chorale have done an outstanding job of singing hymns of various types, most without musical accompaniment. Track 7 ("Encouragement") is my absolute favorite song on this CD. It is so beautiful to hear, especially when I crank it on my big stereo or over my headphones.

Bottom line: if you like chorale music, religious music, or even classical music, you will really enjoy this CD. The quality of the recording is very good.

A moving survey of American hymns.......2002-01-02

This is an excellent, deeply musical performance of a wide variety of hymns, Shaker tunes, and spirituals. The choices provide variety and a thumbnail sketch of a time in America when hymn-singing was a part of every week's activities. I agree with another reviewer that "Precious Lord" is a highlight. Also noteworthy is "Give Me Jesus" at the end. Both the singing and acoustics of the recording are top notch. I have already played this CD many times since receiving it two days ago. I'm ordering copies for friends! Among my many choral CDs, this one stands out as a favorite.

What a excellent CD! I got this for Christmas after going to a couple of their concerts and it sounds just as good as it did live. If you like chorale music then this is the cd for you. I personally know a man that sings in this group and is very talented singer along with the rest!

Great set of wartime rarities.......2003-05-14

Spike Jones was the king of the novelty song performers, with hits like "Der Fuehrer's Face" and the parody version of "Sheik of Araby" becoming huge hits during World War II. This is a swell 3-CD set, gathering a full eighty-one of Jones' best tracks from his 1940s heyday, drawn from an extensive archive of radio broadcasts made for the Standard Transcription service. The tightness of his City Slickers band is amply demonstrated in these manic, kookily orchestrated performances. Toots, squonks, blatts and bleats whiz by at lightning speed, as one daffy song after another will delight devoted fans. Amazingly, Jones had the unusual, almost unique ability to perform a repertoire almost entirely made up of comedic material, and yet still be quite listenable and engaging. His jazz chops were hardly in question, and from time to time Jones would dash off a non-novelty ballad or two, just to give the rubes something to think about. Of course, just as often he would perform a song that *sounded* like a straight ballad, but would turn out to be another goof. (One great example of this is the sultry "Serenade To A Jerk," sung in slinky, burlesque tones by Myrtle Horwin.) This collection may seem a little overwhelming, but like his studio recordings, these radio performances have a certain brilliance and joie de vivre about them that will leave you enchanted. Definitely worth checking out!

This collection has remastered material from the large stack of Standard Transcription discs from the early 1940's. There are many songs not recorded on RCA, many on the theme of wartime ("48 Reasons Why"), and the quality is excellent. The packaging is threadbare but this is an essential CD package for true music lovers.

there are so many great songs sung by beautiful women-Gale robbins singing I love you so much, Arleen doll on All alone Monday, but the best is the enchanting unforgettable Thinking of you, sung by Vera Ellen, the best dancing lady ever on the screen. Sad we cant see Miss Ellen dance to the song but the wonderful scene will live in your memory. A very nice record,Also Miss Debby Reynolds does a very nice imitation of Hellen Kane on I wanna be loved by yo.

Wanna Be With Me - better than Da Sound.......2004-12-06

I don't know why Amazon lists the title of this album as "Untitled"; the CD I have of these songs is called "Wanna Be With Me." Nonetheless, this is eurodance/dancepop/dance at its finest. Hooky melodies, crisp production, very tight dance album. Best songs in my opinion-"Wanna Be With Me" & "This Night I'm In Love." For the most part, this is an upbeat, dancey, edgier & more mature album compared to "Da Sound" which was more Brittany Spears-ish in places. I love tracks 1-6, 8, 10 & 11. Great artwork...printed on high-gloss paper and full of pix, with an airport theme. Overall, a must-have for dance music fans. This is an expensive CD, but well worth it. I bought mine used on EBay, so I would highly recommend doing the same if via Amazon or EBay if possible.

Underrated CD by an Underrated band............2004-05-11

Da Buzz is one of those once in a lifetime groups who makes once in a lifetime music that people will later pass up after only hearing bits and pieces of their full potential.

While their debut was strong and nothing short of spectacular, their sophomore "Wanna Be With Me" was even more outstanding than their first. But why no one paid attention this time around? I believe its mostly because they were afraid Da Buzz would have fallen under that category that so many bands fall under once they have a surprisingly catchy tune take so many people by storm, and after that, they don't even think there would be any potential left. Da Buzz is such a class act and extremely deserving of much more success. This album starts with "Wanna Be With Me", a harder, dancier, stronger, melodic eurodance tune, perfect song and extremely catchy. The second song "In Your Dreams" is even better, even danceier, a harder beat, and more melodic, "This Night I'm In Love" is the pure pleasure of vocal trance gymnastics from beginning to end. Every song on here is amazing, and well in need of so much more praise, because it is so much more amazing than their already amazing first album "Da Sound".

The perfect first song for my wedding.......2003-05-14

We chose Track #9 (Keep on Lovin' Me) to be the first song we danced on our wedding day. Great lyrics, fantastic rythm and all of our guests loved it too!
The rest of the CD is pretty fantastic as well!

TRULY OUTSTANDING!.......2003-05-06

First of all, this cd is nothing less than perfect. This is a must have for any pop/dance music fan. The songs are so upbeat and uplifting. This cd has been is my cd player for a while now....i never get tired of hearing it! It is difficult to pick a favorite song off of this album because each one moves/uplifts me in someway. I actually love every track! I wish Da Buzz was more recognized here in the U.S.A. They also have a new cd coming out May 26 entitled "More Than Alive" (date was given on their website) I can't wait to buy it as well! Their brand new single "Alive" is amazing!! Be sure to check that cd out as well! This cd is worth every cent. A bit pricey since it is an import, but well worth the purchase! BUY THIS RIGHT NOW!
