About the Artist
Tangerine Dream are German-based purveyors of imaginative electronic music. There have been numerous line-ups since the band's formation in September 1967, although Edgar Froese has remained at the head of affairs throughout. Edgar Froese put together Tangerine Dream. Tangerine Dream's impressive live reputation dates back to the early 70's. As their shows tended to be completely improvised. From these live improvisations produced several of the bands early successful albums "Zeit", "Ricochet". In 1977 the band released a double live album recorded in America on Richard Branson's fledgling Virgin label entitled "Encore".

Product Description
This concert recorded in Ottawa in 1986 captures a moment in time from Tangerine Dream and like most bootlegs can be savoured as a first time experience or perhaps re lived as a concert experience. The double album includes stratosfear, Coloured Rain, Yellowstone Park and Underwater Twilight.

These will be shipped on a first come first served basis. Once they're gone they're gone...and disappointed fans will have to rely on E Bay!

2 out of 5 stars This is an okay quality audience recording. Avoid unless a diehard fan........2006-06-15

I have been a Tangerine Dream fan for over 30 years. I have many of their albums on vinyl LP and on CD. I attended this concert in Ottawa and paid for premium tickets in the 10th row, dead center. It was a great concert and so I was looking forward listening to this CD. Unfortunately, I was disappointed.

First of all, the band was too lazy to record the concert. This 90 minute recording, presented on 2 CDs, was recorded by someone sitting in the audience. The NAC Opera, where the concert took place, is very well designed and has excellent acoustics so the quality of the recording is pretty good for an audience recording.

What is extremely irritating is the number of people talking, DURING THE CONCERT, around the taper. I hope these people buy this CD, hear themselves, and learn how truly annoying they are when they talk during a concert. If it wasn't for the incessant talking, I would probbaly give this concert 4 stars, but the talking is throughout the concert and is extremely distracting. The taper must have been sitting towards the back because where I was, the audience was very quiet.

I felt cheated when I bought this CD because there is no mention that this is an audience recording and because of the number of talkers around the taper during the concert. I don't understand why the band did not run an audio out from the stereo soundboard into a DAT and capture the concert properly for CD release. As it is, I cannot reccomend this album.

If you want to hear live Tangerine Dream from this era, check out Logos Live, Encore, or LiveMiles which are all far superior to this recording.

1 out of 5 stars Not worth it!.......2005-06-05

I bought this as I live in Ottawa but had not been able to attend the concert. I'm glad I didn't. The music is insipid to say the least - a far cry from their earlier improvisational days (but still better than the bubblegum techno-pop TD was to move to). Many of the tracks seem to feature a single muscial phrase played over and over. Yawn! It's not helped by the poor sound quality - OK, this is a fan recording so we shouldn't expect a pristine soundboard, but it is muddy, distant, and lacking in tonal range. At least crowd noise is not too invasive.

Die-hard fans will probably want this but it's not for the casual listener. There are far better CDs to help you fall asleep.

5 out of 5 stars Tangerine Dream at Their Best!.......2004-08-14

This disc is a wonderful record of the 1986 tour - an AMAZING performance! I saw them in Washington, D.C. that year - this show is virtually identical. You will hear powerful excerpts from Poland and the Legend soundtrack, as well as performances of Le Parc and Underwater Sunlight tracks.

A superb instrumental version of Yellowstone Park is one of my favorite moments on this CD, which is not to take anything away from the Claire Torry vocal version on the studio album - both are essential. The liquid beauty of Dolphin Dance will put you right on top of a rolling wave. Other highlights are a dreamy newer interpretation of Stratosfear and an abbreviated but mind-bending version of Tangent. Some of the tracks have alternate titles. The CD sounds very good considering the time that has passed since the performance and circumstances under which it was released. There is minimal crowd noise.

The sound of the percussion is a bit muffled, but I can offer no further criticism. I am giving this collection 5 stars because of the performance - a full-star deduction for sound would be too much (and there is no option for 4 1/2 stars). It is a nice high-level recording of a concert from an era of Tangerine Dream that had never been released on a grand scale.
