4 out of 5 stars Welcome To The St. James Club=The Rippingtons.......2007-01-20

A good CD,, but not one of his better ones in my opinion. The music is relaxing and enjoyable to listen to, but nothing really sticks out! I have many of their CDs in my collection and this one will also certainly go into that collection. It a good one to mix it up if you have a carousel CD player!

5 out of 5 stars Your typical but above average Rippingtons release!.......2006-03-25

The Rippingtons 1990 outing entitled "Welcome To Saint James Club" is not much different from previous Rippingtons albums but it is still a very enjoyable CD with standout tracks like the opening title track, and "I Watched Her Walk Away" but the real gem for me is the second song entitled "Wednesday's Child" which begins with an optimistic opener before becoming a very sophisticated pop-jazz classic with amazing keyboard sounds. Most of the rest of this album is also very good but doesn't stand out the way "Wednesday's Child" does. Definately a recommended album and certainly a worthy introduction to these guys but "Moonlighting" remains my favorite Rippingtons album as of writing this review.

5 out of 5 stars Smooth Fused Jazz.......2005-04-15

I am definitely hooked on this CD. The keyboard sounds maybe a little outdated but sweet to the ears. "Welcome to the Saint James Club" (I first heard this song on the weather channel, no lie), "Affair in San Miguel" (hit rewind every time), and "Victoria's Secret" are my favorites. Check it out and you might want to rock the mullet (see inside cover and you will find out what I am talking about).

5 out of 5 stars (I Watch Her) Walk Away.......2003-04-24

This is my first Jazz CD. This is my favorite song. Whenever I want to relax I play this song. I have been a fan of The Rippingtons for 10 years now. I have a total of 6 CDs and want to collect all of them. I like all most all of their selections because it is not noise to the ear. Another favorite of mine is Who's Holding Her Now and Victoria's Secret. Very soothing and relaxing. I just love The Rippingtons!

5 out of 5 stars Get your reservation to St.JC now!.......2001-10-20

I've been a fan of the Rippingtons since their original release and they remain my favorite group. This, I believe, was and still is their best. Every song is great, especially the opening cut. Other than perhaps, Moonlighting, which has become a Jazz 'museum' classic not only for the music, but for the virtual 'who's who' list of musicians who went on to their own recording fame, Welcome to the St.JC is one that I recommend for anyone starting their Rippington's CD collection.

5 out of 5 stars A wonderful mix of funk and latin jazz........1999-09-29

This is a wonderful albumn. I especially enjoyed the song Conga Clubbin. The music stirs your soul and willl leave you asking for more. ENJOY!!

5 out of 5 stars laid back jazz...highlight martika's vocals.......1999-04-02

I received a promo copy of this cd, and found it to include some nice latin jazz w/ various genres mixed in. But the standout track, BY FAR, is "The Happy Song" which features vocals by Martika. Her voice has improved so much, and its a shame that we don't get to hear as often. If you like latin jazz get this release, and if you are a Martika fan, what are you waiting for? Go get this NOW!

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars GET HIGH ON ACID LOUNGE!!!.......2003-03-25

I BOUGHT "WELCOME TO THE ACID LOUNGE" TO BREAK AWAY FROM THE COMP CDS I SEEM TO ALWAYS PURCHASE FROM WATER MUSIC RECORDS. FOR A MINUTE THERE, I WAS BEGINNING TO THINK I WAS THE LABEL'S SPOKESPERSON. ANYWAY, I REALLY HAD NO WAY OF SAMPLING IT TO HEAR WHAT IT SOUNDED LIKE, SO I BOUGHT IT ON A WHIM, AND BASED ON AN ATTRACTIVE CD COVER. THERE WERE NOTABLES ON ACID LOUNGE LIKE KRUDER AND DORFMEISTER, THE DINING ROOMS, GOTAN PROJECT (THERE'S THAT "EPOCA" SONG AGAIN--ARRRRGH!!), AND EASY ACCESS ORCHESTRA, BUT THE GOOD THING IS ACID LOUNGE IS FULL OF FOLKS I HAVE NEVER HEARD OF BEFORE. I WAS HIGHLY IMPRESSED WITH THIS CD... THE MOST "STAND-OUT-ISH" (IF THAT'S A WORD) SONGS ON "ACID LOUNGE" ARE 45 DIPS' SUPER-FUNKY CUTS, "ORGAN", "PORNO JUNKIES" AND "GREEN TOMATOES", TIM LOVE LEE'S SULTRY "TWILIGHT RESERVATION", DISJAM'S EROTIC "BEACHBOY", AIM'S 60'S-INFLUENCED "WHAT PEOPLE DO ALL DAY", SOUL DRUMMER'S COOL AND SWANKY "EAST SIDE STORY", LISA EKDAHL'S LATE NIGHT LOUNGER, "DAYBREAK" AND CRACKPOT'S FUN AND FUNKY "TIPPY TIPPY TOE."
LOOK OUT WATER MUSIC RECORDS!! I THINK YOU HAVE SOME STRONG COMPETITION HERE, ESPECIALLY IF THIS LABEL (HED KANDI, IS IT?) CONTINUES TO PUT OUT RARE AND INFECTIOUS GROOVES AS THE ONES ON "ACID LOUNGE." NOT ONLY THAT, BUT THEY GIVE YOU A COOL COMIC BOOK TO READ--THE SIGNIFICANCE OF IT BEATS THE H-E-DOUBLE HOCKEY STICKS OUTTA ME--BUT IT'S GOOD TO SEE THAT A RECORD LABEL TAKES THE TIME TO PUT TOGETHER SUCH NICE AND DETAILED PACKAGING AS WELL AS DARN GOOD SONGS! I CAN'T WAIT FOR "ACID LOUNGE IN SPACE" TO HIT A LOCAL RECORD STORE IN MY TOWN. IF IT'S ANYTHING LIKE THIS COMP CD COLLECTION, IT'S AS GOOD AS BOUGHT!!

5 out of 5 stars Inspired weirdness that gets better and better..........2002-11-29

Uneasy listening? This can only refer to the way some tracks are compiled/mixed together by 45 Dip, which at first is a bit challenging in places. But what do you expect from a double cd that describes itself as being banned in 7 countries, 12 planetary systems and the 9th dimension? This is not your average downtempo compilation.

Soon enough, this weird blend of latin, lounge and other undescribable stuff starts to make a lot of sense, and I am now hooked. Three of 45 Dip's own tracks are included and they stand out within a consistently high quality selection.

5 out of 5 stars Hallucinogenic Recipe.......2002-07-01

I'm a big fan of jazz and not much interested on electronic music. But the lounge music really makes me feel good, because of it's variety and complexity.
This album is a must buy for every fan of good and relaxing music, specially if listened after a long work day, having a cigar, laying back and looking at your stereo...
Disc 2 is, in my opinion, the best, on account of it's elaborated songs. The album concept is fantastic and it even comes with comic book inside.
Worth every penny!

5 out of 5 stars Club Universe - this CD DEFINITELY BRINGS YOU TO THE CLUB!.......2004-04-16

This is one of the best house music CD's I own at this time. I own another Club Universe CD and I'm currently searching for other CD compilations that are from the infamous Club Universe in San Francisco. If you like deep, progressive, vocal house, then this is the CD for you. When I listen to it, it takes me back to the club itself.....feeling the pulsating beats through me as I close my eyes and absorb the music! Club Universe has been the best house club i've ever been to! Definitely miss it....if anyone else has info about other CD compilations of Club universe, please post it on the CD review!
Much love to the house heads and keep on dancing!

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Club Music.......2002-01-06

This is one of the BEST club music CD I've ever heard. I've been in the dance scene for a long time, and I know what good, pumping club music sounds like. Every single track has awesome, get up and dance music. WELCOME TO THE UNIVERSE IS EXCELLENT!!

5 out of 5 stars Another quality mix from the people at "Twisted".......2001-06-16

This was a tricky album to rate for the HousERaT. Thumpin' house beats, good mixing, excellent music selection but.... questionable lyrics? Questionable lyrics? Yes! Familiar with Peter Rauhofer, aka Club 69 (and a whole bunch of other names I won't mention here)? Well he's one of the main architects for the "Twisted America" label and a high quality house dj/producer. For the most part I really like his work, however once in a while his lifestyle shines in his work and poses a real turn off for me. Run a search for "Club 69", look at some of the cd covers and you'll understand what I'm talking about. I'm not into alternative lifestyles and don't really care to hear about it in the music I listen to, especially if I'm listening with my girl. If you have no issue with that then you'll be just fine with this set. The cut in question is "Drama" and is a really deep, funky, boomin' house beat but the lyrics disgust me. If this had been the instrumental version of the cut I'd have no problem with it at all. Anyway, the rest of the set is good and certainly deserves 5 stars. You've got deep house with a nice fast tempo. You also have a few familiar names like Tenaglia, Amador and the Funky Green Dogs. You won't have any problems moving your feet to this stuff. My cuts of choice are "House Music", Perfect Love" and then cuts 10 through 16. I've decided not to let my personal preference in lifestyle take away from my rating of this album. I do however feel it necessary to warn the novice. Overall this is an excellent mix with all the things I like in house music. This will make a fine addition to your house collection not withstanding what I've stated.

5 out of 5 stars Welcome To The Universe.......2000-12-27

David Harness does a remarkable job compiling great House-Trans music into one CD collection. This CD offers a brief feel of what one will experience upon visiting UNIVERSE in San Francisco.

"DRAMA" is by far one of the most interesting songs I have heard. The wording and musical beat are really out of this world!

5 out of 5 stars Do you like FIERCE-BUMPY HOUSE?...David H is THE DJ !.......2000-04-07

The English language does not have enough superlatives for this DJ. David Harness is the quintessential supreme DJ artist. His mixing is ABSOLUTELY FLAWLESS. He truly represents and embodies the San Francisco sound. If you LOVE FIERCE-BUMPY-PROGRESSIVE house and garage music...you will fall in love with this particular album. Contains some of the classics that are played at Club Universe to this day. This album MUST be included in your collection of CDs, if you truly consider yourself a HOUSE-music fanatic. It embodies the essence of Club Universe. Listen to the drum and bass of Danny Tenaglia's "ELEMENTS", close your eyes, and instantaneously you can visualize yourself on the Universe dance floor. Buy it and if you are lucky enough to witness him perform his magic on the three turntables simultaneously, you can honestly say that you have heard and seen GOD himself...8-)...WELCOME TO HIS MAGIC SESSION!
