Lionel Bart's wonderful musical adaptation of the Charles Dickens classic was the first London stage musical to be transplanted to Broadway with the same kind of sensation it received in Britain-- something that is now common in these post-Cats/Les Miserables times. Although no one from this British cast ever became enormously famous (future Monkee Davy Jones was in the second Broadway cast)--and Sir Carol Reed's film version receives all the critical accolades--this remains the better recording, featuring all the songs cut from the film, while excluding the film's musical interludes that simply seem annoying without the visuals. Just compare Bruce Brochnik to the film's Mark Lester in the title role. Or Clive Revill to Ron Moody's Fagin. Or any of the principals, for that matter--and the differences are remarkable. --Bill Holdship

4 out of 5 stars Food for Thought - Great for Productions.......2007-07-03

If you are considering a production of Oliver this is a great recording that has good background information. It does skip some of the overture music but the rest of that tracks are well done.

3 out of 5 stars Oliver is a classic and meant to be heard and seen........2007-05-25

Many of these numbers are well known. And the dark tone of the story being told is well represented by the choices made by the actors and their directors. But it IS rough and dark and mournful. Not a road-trip CD, rather a show to see in the theater.

5 out of 5 stars PLEASE SIR! I WANT SOME MORE!.......2007-02-27

I starred in my local summer stock company's production of "Oliver," in the summer of 2005. I used this CD to practice learning the musical numbers, by listening to it on my iPod. It has some very memorable numbers such as "Oom-Pah-Pah," "Food, Glorious Food," "Who Will Buy?" "That's Your Funeral," and "Consider Yourself." The one Oliver song that gets on my nerves. But I just can't get enough of most of this music, after the great time I had in the show. I even listen to the soundtrack on airplane trips and car rides sometimes.

2 out of 5 stars Oliver-The Broadway Cast.......2006-03-17

As an original cast member with Florence Henderson's "Sound of Music" tour 45 years ago, I have a unique perspective about this recording. Even the musical director comments at the end that this version of "Oliver" was not particularly well sung but that the cast had a lot of energy.

Unfortunately,(in my opinion) this energy doesn't translate suficiently to the recording and I agree - it's not particularly well sung. Again, from the perspective of a former child performer singing with other kids, it actually is possible for a group of children to sing together and make pleasant-sounding music. The adults in this "Oliver" aren't up to musical snuff either.

Although I haven't heard it, I'd be willing to take my chances on the original London version before settling for this one (which, by the way, was recorded in an LA studio before it even got to Broadway.)

5 out of 5 stars spectacular Broadway album.......2006-02-15

The cast album to the 1963 Broadway premiere production of OLIVER! was actually recorded during the show's pre-Broadway run in Los Angeles. OLIVER! played to subsequent audiences in San Francisco, Detroit and Toronto before opening at the Imperial Theatre in New York on January 6, 1963. The show played 774 performances before prematurely ending the season to play a 9-month national tour, later returning to New York for a `farewell' run of 64 performances.

As she had done to rapturous acclaim in London three years previously, Georgia Brown played the role of Nancy, and earned similar praise for her performance in New York. Her rich, velvet-tinged voice is especially haunting with the chill inducing ballad "As Long As He Needs Me". Composer Lionel Bart wrote "It's a Fine Life" especially for Brown after learning she had been cast in the role in the London production.

Ron Moody had also scored heavily in London with his tour-de-force turn as Fagin, but with producers fearing his portrayal `too ethnic', the role was taken by Clive Revill for the Broadway premiere. Revill had just come from his celebrated role in IRMA LA DOUCE, and his interpretation of Fagin is every bit as valid as Ron Moody's. Bruce Prochnik is a winsome and wistful Oliver, and Michael Goodman is a delight as the Artful Dodger. Wisely-retained from the original London company were a handful of the first-rate supporting players: Hope Jackman's shrill Mrs Corney; and the up-and-coming Barry Humphries as Mr Sowerberry (Humphries would later graduate to playing Fagin before his beloved alter-ego Dame Edna unleashed herself on the world). The promising young belter Alice Playten was smartly-showcased as Nancy's offsider Bet.

But, the sound mix on the Broadway album has always been rather flat and dull, despite being recorded in the stereo format of the day. Voices and orchestra have no vibrancy or depth, and this was due to the studio in which they recorded it, where the ceiling was very low and the sound did not have the necessary acoustic projection. Nevertheless, the recording has a charm and energy which overrides the technical shortcomings.

This new CD reissue from RCA offers some interesting bonus materials including musical director Don Pippin sharing his memories of the show; Barry Humphries performing "That's Your Funeral" (from the London cast album but left off the Broadway album); and a live recording of Patti LuPone singing "As Long As He Needs Me" (LuPone played Nancy in a short-lived Broadway revival in 1986).

Good value.

Mounting a revival of 42nd Street seemed a bit premature--after all, the show had closed in 1989 after nearly nine years on Broadway. But as a giddy love letter to the musical theater, it can't be beat, so we're not going to complain. Inspired by Busby Berkeley's movie, the show includes one great Warren-Dubin number after another, making it a feast of titanium-plated hits that include "You're Getting to Be a Habit with Me," "Dames," "We're in the Money," "Lullaby of Broadway," and, of course, the title song. The leads are on the bland side, but the rest of the cast--most notably Mary Testa, Jonathan Freeman, and 2001 Tony-winner Christine Ebersole--has more than enough spunk to fuel this revival. This is one of the most joyous albums you're likely to hear in a while. Just close your eyes and prepare to be swept into a wondrous world of sassy dames and high-kickin' chorus girls. --Elisabeth Vincentelli

2 out of 5 stars What's The Big Deal?.......2006-08-02

Call me an old curmudgeon, but I never understood why everyone thought 42nd St was so wonderful. I saw the original cast and except for the two big songs, Lullaby of Broadway and 42nd St.( which, okay, were pretty spectacular ensemble dance numbers), the rest was kind of ho-hum, cornball nonsense set to a bunch of standards. Nothing original or ground breaking. Mindless fluff and very often done better. Had director/choreographer, the great Gower Champion not died on opening night (and which David Merrick shamelessly, grossly and tastelessly exploited), the show would have had a mild run and been gone and forgotten. But it became something of a theatrical legend and an incredibly, long running hit. Oh well, that's show biz! This recording is no better or worse than the original, pleasant if forgettable.

3 out of 5 stars it's just fluff, not a lot of impressive substance.......2005-04-13

there are some very good songs in this show, but overall the content and many songs did not impress me at all. let me quote one for you-
what's cute about a little cutie?
it's her beauty, not brains
old father time will never harm you
if your charm still remains...

keep young and beautiful
it's your duty to be beautiful
keep young and beautiful
if you want to be loved

does anyone feel a little bit uncomfortable with these lyrics? i know it was written awhile ago, but not so long ago that these kind of messages were readily accepted... i hope. i personally can't say i loved the show when i went to see it two years ago. the plot was unconnvincing and the themes personally bothered me. i'll admit that there are some winning songs in the album. some of my favorites being 'you're getting to be a habit with me' 'i only have eyes for you' and the title song, but my disliking for the actual show makes me regard the soundtrack in a negative light. if you will buy a cd for a handful of good songs amid many other, well, not so good, then buy it. first read up on the plot though. compared with the good, moving broadway plays, this one just doesn't measure up. it's all fluff. if you enjoy fluff, by all means get the cd.

4 out of 5 stars Not the greatest, but good........2004-04-03

Out of the many soundtracks I own, I can't say 42nd street is my favourite. However, it gets a listen every now and then. The length of it isn't so much a problem [I can listen to the 2001 The Producers and restrain from growing tired], there are a few songs I don't care for. Not to mention, some I blatantly skip over. However, "You're Getting To Be a Habit with Me", "Only Have Eyes For You", "Lullaby of Broadway", "A Quarter to Nine", and "42nd Street" are all excellent, and worh the 20 bucks. The beginning of the sdtk isn't the most enthralling show tunes I've heard, but the latter half makes up for it. If you're aim is to work towards completing your broadway collection, by all means, get this album! But if you're not much of a fan of musicals, there are better. 3.5 stars.

5 out of 5 stars The Big Parade.......2003-08-23

Even though the original performace only closed in 1989, after a nine year run(one of the longest-running shows in Broadway history), its really no suprise to see 42nd Street back in action. With catchy, classic songs such as the perky, slighty corny "We're in the Money", the comedic "Keep Young and Beautiful", the classic "You're Getting to Be a Habit with Me", the wonderful title song, and of course the big one, the turning point, the always great "Lullaby of Broadway", the show is larger than life. Christine Ebersole is truly a star, with an amazing vocal range. If you listen to all of her songs, you will hardly believe you are hearing the same person. David Elder has a perfect tenor voice, Michael Cumpsty, although everyone says he is no Jerry Orbach, has excellent acting skills, Mary Testa and Jonathan Freeman are the perfect pair, and Kate Levering is a talented Peggy Sawyer. The addition of some new songs, such as "Keep Young and Beautiful", "I Only Have Eyes for You", "With Plenty of Money and You" and the new verse to "42nd Street", make the show even greater. The "grandaddy of all backstage musicals" will never die: 42nd Street, that big parade, really will go on for years.

5 out of 5 stars Truly the musical for those who love Broadway musicals.......2003-08-23

I discovered 42nd Street only this year, as it was my middle school musical. The music is catchy and fun, the lines are cute and funny, and the amount of dancing in the show is just amazing. Although I have yet to see the Broadway Revival,(unfortunately I was born too late for the original, I will never get over that)the CD carries the spirit of the show. Although the tapping is stronger on the original cast recording, the songs are just as beautifully done for the most part.(The original Lullaby of Broadway was better, but I liked the fact that you got to hear what I think is one of the mpost powerful lines in the show before the song). Along with the old favorites are some new ones, such as Keep Young and Beautiful and I Only Have Eyes for You. If you have heard both CDs, you will notice that some songs have different lyrics, like Maggie's verse of Shuffle of to Buffalo, and the added lyrics to 42nd Street. Christine Eberdsole's voice is amazing in range, in fact, if you listen to Shadow Waltz and then skip to the Act I Finale, you will hardly believe you are hearing the same person. Mary Testa and Jonathan Freeman are the perfect Maggie and Bert. Michael Cumpsty, although he is no Jerry Orbach, is a very good Julian Marsh. David Elder has a good tenor voice for Billy. Kate Levering, however, is a little disappointing. While a good singer, she isn't quite a Peggy Sawyer. From what I have heard, Meredith Patterson, the understudy, is more talented than Levering. All in all, if you consider yourself a lover of Broadway musicals, you HAVE to see and hear 42nd Street--Truly the Broadway musical for people who love Broadway musicals.

This is a must have for any Wilson fan. Reuben's organ work is fantastic throughout and he thrives in the pocket on this one. The other players on this one do a great job but it is Reuben's organ that is the focus of A Groovy Situation. And he delivers with great solos and heads on all tracks. Especially notable are the tracks While the World lies Waiting and a cover of Stevie Wonder's (I think) Signed, sealed, delivered, im yours.

A great buy for any Hammond B3 fan.

The hurried nature of this supergroup's first outing, Black Light Syndrome, gave it an urgency and focus that is somewhat lacking on this release, replaced by a textural density that rewards repeated listening. "Dangerous" sets the tone with alternating metal and noir sections, complete with Led Zeppelin and Perry Mason quotes. Former Billy Idol sideman Steve Stevens spices up the proceedings with his signature flamenco influences and electronic textures, tossing in with some Jeff Beck-like guitar on "Melt." King Crimson bassist Tony Levin lends the rock-solid bottom that has made him a sought-after session man, but this is clearly Terry Bozzio's baby. On "Spiral," the former Zappa percussionist spins out of control, bashing and crashing with gleeful abandon. Elsewhere, his unique cymbal work and melodic toms add personality to otherwise straightforward compositions. --Michael Ross

4 out of 5 stars "Tragic" if you don't pick this one up!.......2007-06-22

As the author of the Jefferson Airplane book "Take Me To A Circus Tent" and a former radio disc-jockey, I am often asked to write and or discuss various recordings from the 60's and 70's.

By a quick show of hands how many of you were petrified when you first were told Steve Stevens would be part of the 1997 release with Terry Bozio and Tony Levin called "Black Light Syndrome"? Don't feel bad. Most likely excluding family members we had presupposed since he played with Billy Idol we were not going to get rock royalty.

Steve hushed the critics and on the August 2000 release, "Situation Dangerous" the trio is back and full of high voltage.

The eight tracks on the album proudly display the artists musical integrity and quality. Stevens impresses even the harshest critics with some wonderful flamingo style guitar and the mix of Terry's drumming is so crystal clear that the slightest nuance will be enjoyed by any ear. Tony shows why he is so in demand as a bassist. Enough invites to fill Woodstock.

You'll like the many different avenues the music takes you. A bit of King Crimson "Red" and then all of a sudden, you feel as if it could be a Fripp and Eno passage. There is some intense in your face rock and roll as well.

Several fans of Bozzio have mentioned to me over the years the forth track "Spiral" is Terry's crowning achievement on the record. I maintain from the first note until the CD player stops Terry moments add up to over forty-three minutes (The approximate length of the album).

The answer is yes. I had to raise my hand as well.

Enjoy the music and be well,
Craig Fenton
Author of the Jefferson Airplane book "Take Me To A Circus Tent"

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Sophmore Release.......2006-10-31

The 2nd album from these instrumental superstars is even better than their first one in my opinion. The album features more variety with blistering rock and soft acoustic interludes. All 3 musicians shine throughout with Steve Stevens again displaying much more versatility than any of his work with Billy Idol. His flamenco guitar flourishes are a highlight of the softer tracks on the disc. Bozzio is all over the place as well adding various percussion nuances that lesser musicians would never even dream of. Levin, of course is as solid as ever. Overall I think this is a stronger release than the debut. If you love fun instrumental workouts this album is a great one. Let's hope they put something else out one of these days.

3 out of 5 stars Better than their previous...but not much........2006-08-31

This CD at least sounds like it had more thought and effort behind it than Black Light Syndrome. It is a better engineered and recorded album, and the music sounds much more refined rather than the hurried rushed tracks of the former. Still I would expect more from these 3.

And once again, any one expecting something to the effect of Liquid Tension Experiment...as these 3 have been compared to....forget it. You'll be disappointed if you like LTE.

5 out of 5 stars exciting............2006-03-18

If you like the wild brilliance of Liquid Tension Experiment, (and who could not be just blown away by the ending of Biaxident ?) then this is as good a compliment to LTE as you can get ... I rarely play a single track form this album, as the whole album is sheer brilliance.

categorize under: Complex, interesting, rocking, melodic, crazy, and if you dont have those categories, then just stick it in "EXCITING"

5 out of 5 stars gentle, soft and rock.......2002-08-31

when i see the album name, i think that it is a breathless, fast music. but i am wrong. it is so comfortable for me when i listen this album. each part in their songs is very well, specially the songs, tziganne. it is full of Europe taste. some people who don't like the hard rock, but want to listen some guitar solo.
this is the best choice.

Judging from the other reviews, it doesn't seem that we are all listening to the same CD! This is pure Earl. It's like he went away for a while and then came back. He was hanging in really well for a while and then it started to sound like he was tired with his own style. Judging from this outing, it's clear that he's got himself back. Basically, every listener is looking for something different & I've learned to read these reviews, but understand that they are ENTIRELY subjective and may or may not reflect my own taste in music. Basically, listen to some cuts YOURSELF, as Amazon allows you and decide for yourself. I've listened to and chosen some CD's that Amazon reviewers considered to be duds and I've thoroughly enjoyed them! Take this album, I almost didn't buy it. But in the end I did and I could've kicked myself -- it's one of my favourites! It's nice, quiet music in a typical Earl Klugh style and Earl Klugh sound which is rather refreshing these days when you can barely tell one smooth jazz artist apart from another. And, good gracious, he plays almost all of the instruments on many of the songs -- that takes talent, gang! It's quite a feat. My husband is a musician and does thishimself -- it's quite a time consuming project.

So, Amazon, thanks for allowing reviewers to have their say, but thanks even more for allowing us to listen to clips so that we can get an idea of what the album sounds like. Thanks to you reviewers who give your opinions, too.

5 out of 5 stars Smooth Stuff So True to Klugh!.......2000-11-25

Unlike one superior cynic, I don't hear this CD as "run of the mill." Typically, those who can only run their mouths are "Run-of-the-Mill." After all, any fool can do this, but not just anyone can maintain a successful (what do you call success? sure to be asked) musical career for as long as Earl Klugh has.

The tune with Roberta Flack is great! The other tunes are great too as long as you don't set yourself up for failure by assuming it will be the same. He is one man with his own style. He cannot become George Benson and if he did, we would complain about that wouldn't we? Somewhere there is a win-win in here, and the CD is a win-win.

For most of the constantly critical music lovers, love is not part of their vocabulary. And music? Most can't play a good game of UNO much less an instrument! Keep on Earl! Jett:0)

4 out of 5 stars Better than expected.......2004-10-16

I bought this CD after hearing " FREE".I was pleasantly surprised to find out that she had quite a few very good songs on here. some a little blues and dance and a quite unique style I had not heard of before. "New kind of medicine" is a catchy tune that could have been remixed into a great club hit. " Found a cure" is another dance highlight. Smart and fun, lots of energy. Definetely worth buying.

5 out of 5 stars Powerful stuff!!!.......2003-08-26

Man, this album is astounding in all aspects: her sultry, smooth voice, the live and synthetic instruments perfectly blended together in harmony, lyrics which exude depth and solidity, and an overall superb combination of disco, R&B/soul, and house.

Situation: Critical is a concept album about love and relationships, and coping with hard times. Ultra Naté shines brilliantly, in my opinion, better than her somewhat more cursory preceding albums. Even non-Ultra fans will love this, I've managed to convert some already!! Her sound is so different from others, she really is a paragon in the dance genre!

Fave songs: "Love You Can't Deny" "Any Ole Love" "Release the Pressure" and "Found a Cure (full intention mix)"

You HAVE to have this one...even if it's not your favorite...Ultra deserves support for her hard work, dedication, and talent. BUY BUY BUY!!!

5 out of 5 stars MAN WHAT A JOURNEY.......2003-03-08

I KNEW ULRTA HAD TALENT BUT I DONT THINK ANYONE EXPECT THIS ALBUM TO BE AS GREAT AS IT WAS. MOOD II SWING WERE THE MAIN PRODUCERS ON THE PROJECT. I WAS VERY IMPRESSED WITH THERE MUSICAL ABILITIES. ULTRA DELIVERS SOME GREAT R/B AND SOULD DIGS. ANY OLE LUV IS A GREAT SONG THAT PUTS U IN THE MIND OF PATRICE RUSHIN. FOUND A CURE IS HOT AND NEW KINDA MEDICINE GETS YA GOING BIG TIME. ULTRA IS SHOWING MORE VOCAL RANGE WHICH IS GREAT AND HER WRITING IS ON POINT. THIS IS AN ALBUM FOR EVERYONE NOT JUST CLUB HEADS. DONT MISS OUT. IVE OWNED THIS ALBUM SINCE IT WAS RELEASED IN 98 AND STILL SOUNDS GOOD.

5 out of 5 stars Naté's brilliance fully realized!.......2002-12-21

Ultra Naté successfully redefined the boundaries of house music on this, her third full-length. The largely rock-leaning press has long contended that house, and its progenitor disco, are only about promoting the beat. Indeed, many uninformed listeners unfairly dismiss dance music as artistically inconsequential. Naté disproves all of this with a musically diverse album. "Situation:Critical" employs production from some of house music's most venerated names including Mood II Swing, Masters at Work and D-Influence.

Stylistically, the album runs the gamut from house and mid-tempo disco to R&B and soul. The album is rich in content ranging from social commentary to disaffected romance. The title track is a call for altruism in a dark world whereas the midtempo disco track, "New Kind Of Medicine" acknowledges the need of terminating a bad relationship. Also, Naté's breakthrough single, "Free", is included here. The standout of the album is without a doubt "Found a cure", a song about moving on in the face of regret. This track also appears again at the album's end, remixed by Full Intention.

With "Situation:Critical", Naté successfully affirms house music's importance and reaffirms her well-deserved status as one of house's most revered divas.

4 out of 5 stars Promise: Fulfilled........2002-09-23

"Free," the debut single lifted from Ultra Nate's third CD, is an energetic thrust of pure disco bliss: positive lyrics, strong hooks, and a chorus to die for. It was surely one of the best and most soulful club anthems in years, and it richly deserved its Top Ten status in the UK. While the rest of "Situation: Critical" doesn't match the brilliance of "Free," there's enough to make the trip worth your while. An arsenal of aggressive guitars are set to a thumping disco beat and a powerful choir in the catchy "Found a Cure," while "Release the Pressure" stands out as well. "Love You Can't Deny" succeeds as an above-average house number, and the title track, which opens the CD, adds some variety to the mix as a laid-back, mid-tempo number. There was speculation as to whether Ultra Nate would have a future since amicably breaking ties with her mentors, the Basement Boys. But this fine album shows that she has enough identity and personality to stand tall on her own.

4 out of 5 stars delightful studio "Oliver!".......2007-04-28

This is the 1962 London studio cast recording of Lionel Bart's OLIVER! The recording--featuring several famous British celebs--is a fantastic rendition of the score.

Alma Cogan, a famed British songstress, plays the role of Nancy; and the part fits her voice like a glove. Dynamic with "It's a Fine Life" and "I'd Do Anything", she also tugs at the heartstrings with a chill-inducing "As Long As He Needs Me". Ms Cogan could--and should--have been one of the leading singers on the world stage, had she not died of ovarian cancer at the age of 36.

Stanley Holloway, star of the Broadway, London and film incarnations of "My Fair Lady", plays the villainous rogue Fagin. He delivers a comic and sly performance with such numbers as "Be Back Soon", and "Reviewing the Situation".

Playing the title role, Denis Waterman sings a tender "Where is Love?". Tony Tanner ably-delivers as The Artful Dodger with a lusty "Consider Yourself". This recording also features the fondly-remembered character actress Violet Carson (who played Ena Sharples on long-running British soap "Coronation Street"), in the role of vile Widow Corney.

On the whole, this rendition of OLIVER! features enough top-drawer talents to help ensure it becomes an often-played title in your collection. Snap it up today!

The Stone Coyotes might be a rock band, but that doesn't mean they slip neatly into a stereotype. Barbara Keith's songs are influenced by folk music ("Where the Old Oak Grows," "If You See the One") and gospel ("Bone Tired") as much by Led Zeppelin or any classic-rock sound. She's a powerful singer, too, and as a guitarist she can flurry notes with the best of them, although she generally chooses not to, making her solos short and very incisive. For a three-piece, there's a remarkably full sound, with much kudos to the Tibbles father and son rhythm section, solid as a rock but subtle so you sense them without being overwhelmed. This is a band that's confident of its own identity--their cover of Donovan's "Season of the Witch" makes it sound like an original, and they're not afraid to embrace some neopunk on the live closer, "Saw You at the Hop." These coyotes howl. --Chris Nickson

5 out of 5 stars Folk lyrics meet power rock 'n roll trio........2006-10-29

"Situation Out of Control", "Lucky Day", "When Parliament Convenes", the haunting (for a sometime sailor) "The Black Atlantic", the kicking "I Want to Rock" the cover of "Season of the Witch", "Saw You at the Hop", what's not to like? How many albums are you going to find where EVERY song is outstanding? Barbara Keith had an eponymous vinyl LP in 1972 that I tracked down and purchased on CD (well worth the effort) learning in that search about her subsequent band, 'The Stone Coyotes'. All (so far) seven Coyotes' albums are terrific, with, in my opinion, "fire it up" and "Situation Out of Control" being the stand-outs. "Barbara Keith" was folk with considered lyrics. Barbara Keith brings every bit of that intelligent poetic sensibility to hard-core rock and roll with 'The Stone Coyotes'. Just the first song alone, "Situation Out of Control", is worth the effort to acquire.

5 out of 5 stars I jest you not folks, this could be your lucky day........2000-12-01

This is one of the songs you hear when being transferred to an order specialist! Let me tell you folks, I called, and was put on hold, and after hearing this song, I was so touched... it was like an angel came and sat on my shoulder. Soon after that experience, I finally got to talk to a LIVE person, and she must have picked up on my overwhelmed state of X-tacy, that she was able to help me with all my problems, and then proceeded to give me a gift certificate for my future purchases! Talk about luck! I credit this song for my good fortune! You know, sometimes I call in and just ask to be put on hold...

A few more wise words for you:

Whatever you do, don't be downhearted, blah - blah - blah, somethings might be coming round the corner, this might be your lucky day,

this might be your lucky day,

your lucky day,

lucky day-ay-ay.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Album.......2000-11-14

For those of you who are fans of the Stone Coyotes, I would recommend tracking down an album by Tom Faulkner called, Lost in the Land of Texico. I think you'll enjoy it for the same reasons you like the Coyotes.

5 out of 5 stars if you want to understand groove..........2000-08-26

to have any expectation about this album is to have it blown away by the opening power of the title track. moving from storytelling in "where the old oak grows" to the imagery of "my horse has wings" and the crunch of "bone tired" there are only moments to catch your breath when needed. this isn't to say that "situation out of control" moves forward at a breakneck pace, out of control in itself - to say that would be an insult to an album taking inspiration from all sorts of places musical from straight-ahead american rock to country to punk to rap - all strung together throughout the album, and, in this reviewer's opinion coming together in the spectacular "when parliament convenes" - thus sounding truly, for the first time in years, like no other band sounds...

5 out of 5 stars The Stone Coyotes have done it again!.......2000-08-17

This album is so good that it gives me chills. I especially like "Where the Old Oak Grows" and "Highland Boy".

    5 out of 5 stars Amazing!.......2007-07-16

This album is a must have for emo/hardcore/screamo fans. It is a compilation of all recordings of Neil Perry, from 1998 to 2002. The tracklist starts from 2002, with the latest recordings, for me the most amazing ones. The early songs shows us their sense of humor visible on the song titles. But the most amazing thing about this album, is that the CD #2 comes with an incredible 30-minute video, extremely well edited that brings us their tour years and two amazing jam sessions, and also comes with a second video about the recording of the song 'fading away like the rest of them' showing Justin Graves on his best form.
