Not exactly a country artist, since her records lack twang, and too casual and intimate to make for a standard-issue MOR pop performer, Anne Murray's phenomenally warm, smooth voice has nevertheless secured a lofty place for her in both categories--and has occasionally brought her into the mainstream (read: traditionally rock and soul dominated) pop arena. If you're not a fan, or much of a country enthusiast, it's her '70s pop hits that'll make the package worthwhile. "Snowbird" is here, as is "You Needed Me." If you are a fan, or are looking for songs that hit only on the country or Canadian charts, there'll be a lot of key stuff missing. So Far So Good offers up 13 of his previous hits plus a new song, "Please Forgive Me," a gooey, Michael Bolton-like ballad. The album starts out with "Summer of '69," the appealing autobiographical song about the 10-year-old Adams learning to play his first guitar in Ontario, and includes "(Everything I Do) I Do for You," the synth-laced ballad that wound up in the Guinness Book of World Records after topping the British singles charts for 16 weeks. With its over-the-top, gravelly vocals, So Far So Good reminds one of Rod Stewart's 1980s work when he was coasting on past achievements. I like him and have to say that this disc is one of my favorites when I want to remember the good ol' days. The disc starts off with "Summer of '69" and then rolls right into "Straight From The Heart." From there we are treated to a nice helping of Adams' best rockers and ballads. Personal favorites include "Cuts Like A Knife," "Run To You," "Can't Stop This Thing We Started" and "Heaven. It also has "(Everything I Do) I Do It For You," which many consider the beginning of the end for Adams. He went on to release a few other soundtrack tunes and moderately popular hits like "The Only Thing That Looks Good On Me (Is You)" after the release of this hits compilation and they are included on the later "Best Of Me." Hardcore fans may want to pick up that title or the aforemetioned "Anthology."
For those of us who only want the bulk of Adams' biggest tunes, stick with "So Far, So Good." It won't let you down.

I'm a metal head,I grew up on Dio,Motley Crue,Poison,Kiss etc.. so why am I raving about Bryan Adams? Because he's that good.
If you look music of any kind from heavy to country to romantic ballads,any kind of music you will find something you can love in his music,it's timeless and his voice is never going to be considered the best of the best but that's okay because it fits this music perfectly,he sounds like the every day guy next door that lives and breathes these experiences
The CD starts off with 'Summer Of '69' which is just about the ultimate driving song ever written (the only competition is Don Henley's 'Boys of summer),it is perfect and I'm sure makes just about everyone out there remember their own favorite summer,from there it goes to 'Straight From The Heart' a beautiful love song,from there is one of my personal favs,"It's Only Love" a duet with himself and Tina Turner,this song rocks,it really overflows with feeling and fun,from there the only song on the CD that I feel was overplayed 'Can't Stop This Thing We Started' it is a great song but the radio over played it (it's not Bryan's fault his songwriting is so good that radio over did it),then another beautiful love song 'Do I have To Say The Words' and this and every ballad has a different feel and emotion which is rare in this musical climate,after that is 'This Time' which is about as much fun you can have with a song and still be legal,then 'Run To You' which has atmosphere and such emotion in the lyrics that you just know he (or someone he knows) has lived through that experience...then my favorite Bryan Adams ballad 'HEaven' which they used to play at my middle school dances so it will live forever in a special place in my heart,and then 'Cuts Like A Knife' which was one of the very first videos I ever saw on MTV,they played it a lot but it never got old,great song and still sounds as fresh today as when it first came out,then 'Everything I do,I do it for you' another beautiful ballad with a beautiful message,personally I always think of Robin Hood the movie when I hear this song (the arrow going into the tree is a visual that will forever go with this song),another great fun rocking song follows 'Somebody' and then right into 'Kids Wanna Rock' it's almost impossible to not smile when you hear these songs,and it's followed with a true gem 'Heat Of The Night' which is the absolute perfect atmosphere song (right alongside 'Def Leppard's "foolin")...my only criticism of this perfect CD is why would they choose to end such a fun CD with a ballad...'Please Forgive Me' is a beautiful song but should have been in the middle,they should have ended it with 'Heat Of The Night' let it end on a rocking note..but that aside this is what rock and roll and songwriting in general should be....it should be noted that Bryan has released a few other greatest hits packages over the years but don't be fooled this is the best of the best,his next attempt 'The Best Of Me' is very weighted down with ballads and almost ignores his rocking side...this is a perfectly balanced CD that will appeal to any fan of fun rock and roll
The Upside - This is how to write songs...Bryan is an expert...and it is also proof of why producers are so important to an artist,Mutt Lange is a genius (as his track record proves) the songs sound perfect,warm and yet crisp..there are no show off moments,just great singing and musicians that above all highlight the songwriting,what can I say other then perfection
The Downside - There is none
The Bottom Line - If you are a songwriter,or want to be,buy this CD to learn how it should be done...This CD is everything that is missing in almost all modern music and it can be summed up in one 3 letter word - FUN! It's tempting to follow the post-Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young career of Neil Young and underestimate this early band as a lighter, commercial diversion. But their fourth album, a concise retrospective of highlights, remains a sweeping '60s document, full of pastoral optimism and the virtues of (even today) spectacular-sounding harmonies. Wooden Ships shows great musicianship. Perhaps the broader meaning is lost in the 60s, but it is still great to listen to.
Teach Your Children is filled with 60s moralizing - or is it a modern commentatry that No Child Left Behind isn't enough?
Ohio, a song of the Kent State massacre, shares an anti-authority and anti-big government message that has been gaining steam in recent years.
Woodstock, about the iconic festival they attended (and ironically written by Joni Mitchell who didn't attend) could also be seen as surviving in modern times. At least as long as the reunion shows keep going every five years there.
Suite: Judy Blue Eyes, one of their most famous anthems, also survives the test of time.

With a distinctive voice and controversial statements, Sinead O'Connor was briefly in the limelight and quickly in the doghouse. But even her opinionated politics can't take away from the beautiful work she's contributed to the post-punk canon. O'Connor's poignant delivery of Prince's "Nothing Compares 2 U," is still heart-wrenchingly painful. "Troy" is equally evocative. So Far... Key album tracks such as the vengeful Last Day Of Our Acquaintance, I Am Stretched On Your Grave and Fire On Babylon are also included, though had the collection been a little more adventurous it would have been nice to see some of the hard to find experimental early singles such as I Want Your (Hands On Me) with MC Lyte, or the notorious Jump In The River duet with Karen Finley. As it is, this collection mostly serves the more casual listener who does not expect to soon buy any of her albums.

Oh, and then there's the music. Don't let it be overshadowed by her public persona, because the music is what it's about. If I don't give 5 stars to this CD, it's because some of the choices are odd. "Don't Cry For Me, Argentina"? How about "Rebel Song" or "Three Babies"? Still, I did hear some of my favorites here: "Mandinka," "The Emporer's New Clothes,""I Am Stretched On Your Grave," etc. etc. And for those of you who came to Sinead because of the Prince cover- well, that's in here too.

Sex Pistols singer Johnny Rotten made a definitive break from his past when he reclaimed his real name--John Lydon--and formed Public Image Limited. He was no longer a token punk rocker, but an artiste reveling in his newfound auteur status. The first six songs of this collection feature this vision of the group: hard, uncompromising, idiosyncratic tunes that turn pop music inside out with devastating results. "Public Image" is the residual fury of the Sex Pistols' breakup rendered with spiky guitars and Lydon's patented snarl. "Careering" and "Memories" are skeletal art rock based on the atmospherics of dub music and perverse dance grooves. But by the Bill Laswell-produced "Rise," PiL was no longer a group but Lydon's personal pop vehicle. As the band moved on, they tried too many diverse musical styles, which is why this compilation is horrible.
I like rock, I like musically adventerous music. I like good musicianship. I don't like weird quasi-dance music especially mixed with screechy, purposefully annoying ,semi-rock music.
Only a fanatic of this group could listen to the cd all the way through. The songs are too diverse for the casual listener.

'Post-Punk' band, from the ashes of his first band. But then John Lydon was always about confounding the publics perceptions. So with World music / Worldbeat / Alternative bassist "Jah Wobble" (Who would be later sacked from the band), PiL is an amalgamation of early post-punk, Dub-rock, Alternative Dance & (later on) Pop/Rock.
First and formost, It must be noted that this is a 'Singles' collection more than anything, and thus forgoes consistency in favour of popular hits or singles tracks. So the collection of songs is understandably diverse and a little erratic. Although that's not to say that the singles in question are anything less than excellent choices, in fact it's surprising how well these singles stand up under close inspection considering how old some of them are (late 70's - Early 80's).
The First Track, "Public Image" is closer to the fiercer rockier side of the band that first emerged, with chugging guitars, rapid drumming and John Lydon shrieking with lyrical contempt "Two sides to every story, Somebody had to stop me, I'm not the same as when I began, I will not be treated as property" shows that his disdain of the establishment hadn't completely deserted him, when the Sex Pistols split. In fact this is one of the songs that is like a closest relative to the pistols work. Urgent, conformational, short and to the point noise rock!!. Sure, it's no replacement for the Pistols, and it certainly isn't Punk, but that rough & ready Angst-ridden alternative sound isn't too hard to discern.
If there's a particular stand out track, then for me, it's unquestionably got to be "Careering", a particularly exemplary example of Dub-Rock / Alternative Dance, that takes a sublime slow tempo slap-heavy bass (courtesy of 'Jah wobble'), brooding percussion, and scattershot electronics, which sound like thousands of metallic ball bearings hitting sheets of aluminium. and a shouty-sung dancey aesthetic that belies it's easy to miss seriousness of lyrics, with Lydon yelping "A face is raining, Across the border, The pride of history' The same as murder, Is this living, He's been careering!!", its a stunning juxtaposition of articulate lyrics mixed with the bouncy post-punk, dance sensibility, that earmarks some of the genres finest tracks, and went on to feature on several Post-Punk compilations.
"This is not a love Song" begins to show the transition of the band into a more accessible Alternative Pop/Rock, Alternative Dance group (much to the cargin of fans of their early material). And yet if you (like me), You are happy to take the music on its own merits, (as opposed to worrying about it's lack "Sticking it to the Establishment" approach from before). Then the introduction of a more refined and less abrasive sound Lydon won't disappoint, as well the use of a horn section, spiky guitars, and a far more FM Rock orientated sound. (Not strictly FM rock, as such, but certainly something that had more chance of being played on the radio, then their early work). But maybe its Lydon's reluctance to completely give in to the general public, because although the lyrics were less confrontational, they still retained that sarcasm that Lydon is famous for, with the lyric "I'm adaptable and I like my new role, I'm getting better and better, And I have a new goal, I'm changing my ways, where money applies" being a particularly Lydon-ish moment.
"Rise" is possibly one of the biggest concessions to refining a more accessible sound. And the single I remember most, on hearing it being playlisted on the radio on its first release. But actually a song that seems to touch up social/racial injustice with Lydon firing up unifying lyrics like : "I could be wrong I could be right, I could be black I could be white...", over looping guitars, keyboard and droning synths, showed that the transition to something that could make an entry into the musical charts was complete (possibly to subvert from within the pop/rock industry??), and although this is the point that they admittedly attracted a new audience with it's more rhythmic sounding instrumentation, largely broader musical scope and less confrontational lyrics (this song was actually the track I remember most, when I first heard PiL), It probably had their intital audience moving elsewhere, but the repeated shouting of "Anger is an Energy" showed that Lydon hadn't completely forgotten his past.
So there you have it, It's not a complete summary of the band by any means, and there are almost certainly omissions in track selection. And as been previously mentioned in the reviews below, is the the albums lurches wildly from Experimental Dub-rock track one minute, to Post-Punk throwdown the next, without much consideration for what went before. Plus not forgetting that the album feels largely in two distinct halves. The early Post/Experimental Punk/Rock & Art-Rock work, and the later, Alternative Pop/Rock & Dance sounding tracks, which may alienate early or later adopters to their music. But then this collection was never designed with them in mind. and they should seek out the individual albums.
So bearing in mind these criticisms, why is this release getting 5-Star's??....simple, because if your not concerned with their musical transitions, and how they were then, or how they are now. This is a fantastic singles collection full stop. There's some truly superb material here, irrespective of whether its : Dub, Noise-Rock, Art-Rock, aggressive Rock, Alternative Dance, or any of the other multitude of genres the band touched upon. PiL enthusiasts may want to overlook this release in favour for the studio albums, but the rest of us (especially those relatively new to the band), will find this to be an excellent primer for their work.

The First, Second, Third and Fourth Bookes of Songes, A Musicall Banquet, the keyboard transcriptions, all the lute music, consort music are here and virtually everything else written or supposedly written by John Dowland. Anthony Rooley and The Consort of Musicke perform this music with style and feeling throughout. This 12 CD set is something of a monument to the ensemble - I only wish they'd finished their collection of Monteverdi madrigals, which was equally good (La Venexiana are currently doing a magnificent job of recording all Monteverdi's books of madrigals for the GLOSSA label).
This is an expensive set, however, you will probably never need to buy another John Dowland CD again after buying and listening to this collection.
I bought this CD set on a mild Summer evening of 1998 and listened to it while sitting in my sun room - which a glorious orange sunset in progress, and a glass of wine. It brought back so many memories.

Dowland, a contemporary of Shakespeare, discovered that meditating on a sad theme is, at the same time, a way of discovering a special beauty that we tend to avoid (maybe because of the "tragic" heritage of the Romantics). So, in the end, meditating on sadness is an uplifting experience! This box set is a journey into melancholy that includes songs, chamber music, pieces for lute, some rare sacred music and -as a highlight- Dowland's beautiful collection of seven pieces for viola which he called "Lachrimae" (Tears).

Megadeth in transition..........2007-07-11
Dave Mustaine and his band Megadeth were bought to critical acclaim with the release of their second album `Peace Sells...But Who's Buying' in 1986. Mustaine, the man who swore revenge on his former band Metallica had a created a force to be reckoned with and their second release showed they were very much a big part of the Bay Area thrash metal scen. However, like with so many other bands, the road to greater success was to be a tough one. Megadeth had managed to sustain the same line-up for their initial two albums, however towards the end of the `Peace Sells' tour, Mustaine fired guitarist Chris Poland and drummer Gar Samuelson due to their drug abuse (culminating in Poland selling some band equipment to aid his drug habit!) This, as expected destroyed a lot of the chemistry within the band and left Mustaine and bassist Dave Ellefson looking for a new drummer and axeman. However, following recruiting drummer Chuck Behler and guitarist Jeff Young, Megadeth were once again ready to jam out some kick ass heavy metal. `So Far, So Good...So What!' was released in January 1988 and has gone on to become the Megadeth album which has split fan opinion down the middle...
`SFSG...SW' is very much Megadeth's transitional album in more ways than one. It first and foremostly marks a bridge between the rawer, pure thrashy stuff that the first two albums had and the much more technical arrangements that are found on `Rust In Peace'. Secondly, the band itself is in transtion. Guitarist Jeff Young and drummer Chuck Behler do a good job on this album however in many ways they are a temporary bridge between the early line up and the classic line-up (with Marty Friedman and Nick Menza) who would fill their roles following this studio outing. As a consequence of these changes occuring within Megadeth and with their sound, this album produces some interesting results. Some people hold this album with very high regard, often citing it as Deth's best. Indeed I can respect this opinion to a degree, afterall some of Megadeth's finest songs are on here such as `In My Darkest Hour' and `Set The World Afire'. On the contrary, there are Megadeth fans who cite this work as a poor show, lacking consistency and impact. Again I can see where these fans are coming from - the original album's sound came across as very stale (although this is vastly improved on the remaster) and there are also some quite substandard tracks for a band of Megadeth's quality. I personally think the album `JUST' about deserves the 4* rating I've given it as it contains some exceptionally good tracks. It is however an album of choppy inconsistencies with the good songs being marred by tracks such as `502', `Anarchy In The UK' and `Liar'. These songs often come across as rushed, somewhat uninspired and juvenile. Indeed given Mustaine's level of drug abuse at the time and the state he was in during much of the recording sessions, it is not surprising this album is a bit of a mixed bag in terms of quality.
Following Megadeth's re-union in 2004 with the release of 'The System Has Failed', Dave Mustaine personally helped remaster the band's back catalogue. With 'So Far, So Good...So What!' the remaster is excellent. The sound quality on the remastered version is much clearer as opposed to the rather stale production which plagued the original release. The remaster of the album also has demos for 'Into The Lungs Of Hell', `Set The World Afire', `Mary Jane' and `In My Darkest Hour'.
`Into The Lungs Of Hell' opens the album and what a cool opener this is. A stately opening gives way to a blisteringly quick instrumental song with awesome riffs aplenty! Following the opener is one of my personal favourite Megadeth tracks `Set The World Afire'. This was the first post-Metallica song Mustaine wrote and what a thrash metal classic this is. Some fiery, tripletly riffing gets the song going before Mustaine comes in with the vocals over one fantastic guitar line. For a song with power, aggression and vigour look no further. So at this stage, it is `So Far, So Good' however we are then graced by the `So What' aspect of the album with `Anarchy In The UK'. A cover song which has divided fan opinion, I personally don't think it works that well at all. The whole song sounds quite tired and lifeless (even on the remaster!) and Mustaine even gets some of the lyrics wrong. However the album picks itself up again next with `Mary Jane', an atmospheric song with some great, signature Megadeth riffs.
The choppy waters of this album re-emerge with `502'. Another substandard track with a theme of cop car chases. The siren sounds on the track get annoying after a while and the lyrics are pretty uninspired and juvenile. Then following this, we are treated to another classic `Deth song in `In My Darkest Hour'. This 6 minute beast has a great acoustic opening before some great chugging riffs come in. The track builds to a climax towards the end as it garners speed. Mustaine gives an excellent vocal performance in this song which was dedicated to fallen Metallica bassist Cliff Burton. Then we have `Liar'. Musically I find this track pretty good (save the chorus) however the lyrics really let the song down - an attack on former guitarist Chris Poland, it is just that bit childish and laughable. However Mustaine hits the mark lyrically in the closing track `Hook In Mouth'. Another classic song, it is a `1984' inspired track which also attacks the PMRC musical sesoring movement. The guitar work is snarling and the `F-R-E-E-D-O-M' chorus is especially great.
All in all, `So Far, So Good...So What' is a mixed bag which for me is fortunately held together by 3 extremely strong tracks. Some love it, some hate it, its one of those albums. If you are a fan of Megadeth, I would recommend this album as it contains some great material in parts. However if you're new to the band then `Rust In Peace' is the place to start as it is the album that displays the Megadeth sound at its technical and creative best. With `SFSG...SW' the band is rediscovering it's direction. This album is a key part in the development of Megadeth however it is consequentially a mixed one.

Outstanding effort from Megadeth........2007-03-30
502 wasn't so bad except for the silly lyrics about a high speed chase with a bunch of cops but the following song In my darkest hour is probably the highlight of this album and is one of the greatest Megadeth songs ever, a song inspired by the tragic death of his friend and fellow Metallica bandmate Cliff Burton and presented here with an improved accoustic intro I would describe this song as a ballad that increases with speed and then becomes more intense towards the end which is amazing then theres the song called Liar another good track which seems to be an attack towards a former member of Megadeth (I think its maybe towards Chris Poland I'm not so sure). The closing song Hook in mouth was an incendiary assualt on the PMRC at the time and an overall attack on censorship in the media, but then again who cares since its a great thrash song. If you ask any Megadeth fan and they will tell that this album has some of the best songs Megadeth ever recorded despite all of the problems Dave was going through you he still managed to pull of this great masterpiece of thrash metal, you cannot call yourself a true Megadeth fan without owning this album.

Disc Two - "A Night In" - focuses on Rod the balladeer with his haunting versions of other peoples' songs: "Sailing" (Gavin Sutherland), "Have I Told You Lately" (Van Morrison), "I Don't Want To Talk About It" (Danny Whitten - Crazy Horse); plus his own compositions such as "The Killing of Georgie Pts 1 & 2" and "You're In my Heart (The Final Acclaim)". Best of all is the hard-to-get Python Lee Jackson classic "In a Broken Dream".
Well worth the money.

In the opening song of "Something Wonderful," Welsh bass-baritone Bryn Terfel sings, "All the sounds of the Earth are like music." They most definitely are when Terfel surrounds them with his resonant baritone. Every phrase of Rodgers and Hammerstein's music is imbued with uncommon sensitivity, impeccable phrasing, and dazzling beauty. from R & H's "Allegro" with those Richard Roger's hooks & terrific Oscar Hammerstein lyrics. Felt that the orchestra on this session made a good move using the original orchestrations for a classic R & H feel. I concur with the reviewer regarding the miking of Terfel's voice in this session which seems too low forcing the listener to turn up the volumne.

From the first phrase of Terfel's uplifting opening version of "Oh, what a beautiful morning" from Oklahoma!, we listeners intuitively know that this is not going to be your superflous run-of-the-mill classical crossover offering of R&H songs. Terfel uses his big voice to great effect in Billy Bigelow's two songs from Carousel, "If I loved you" and the pivotal "Soliloquy" that builds up to a devastating climax. When he does this for Emile's two big solos in South Pacific, "Some Enchanted Evening" and "This Nearly Was Mine," he also makes them sound fresh and intuitively conveys their essence. He also thrills us even when his voice is soft and tender, such as on Lietunant Cable's "Younger than Springtime" and especially on Captain von Trapp's "Edelweiss" from The Sound of Music.
Besides the obvious highlights in this R&H offering, Terfel unearths some new delights. He does this by trying his vocal cords on songs that were originally intended for women, most notably in Nettie's two big numbers in Carousel, "June is busting out all over" and "You'll never walk alone", which he pulls off convincingly in a straight-laced and serious manner without sounding cliched. (In the booklet, "You'll never walk alone" was stated as being sung by the Chorus, but then in the show, it is sung by Nettie.) He is also wistful on "It might as well be Spring" from State Fair, and philosophical on Lady Thiang's "Something Wondreful" from The King and I. He also evokes a dreamlike quality on Bloody Mary's "Bali Ha'i" in South Pacific. The other unusual thing that Terfel does is include some unknown songs and treat them ravishingly. Four of them are from Allegro, highlighted by a charming "So Far," a reflective "A Fellow needs a girl" and a powerful "Come Home", and he also sings "No Other Love" from Me and Juliet as ravishingly as "I Have Dreamed."
If I have any quibbles, there are only two minor ones. Terfel's R&H offering runs for 74 minutes, and still has six minutes of empty space on a CD. I'm sure that Terfel could have given thought to the Mother Abbess's "Climb Every Mountain" from The Sound of Music, which I consider a more universal and less-cliched song than "You'll never walk alone" from Carousel. It would have suited his full-throated, big-voiced characteristic very well. Also, this offering of R&H seems to be lopsided to emphasise more of the first part of R&H. Sixteen tracks cover R&H from Oklahoma to South Pacific, with four tracks that cover their second half from The King and I to The Sound of Music. As such I would have liked to hear him sing a more balanced repertoire of R&H songs with equal emphasis to both halves of their collaboration. Perhaps he might record a Volume 2 with songs from the latter part of their collaboration in the near future. But with 74 delightful minutes of Terfel's R&H offering, how could anybody complain about the quality of this recital, especially with a lavish booklet complete with copious notes by R&H expert Ethan Mordden and full lyrics.
Overall, though, I'm very sure that this R&H offering is both a highlight of Terfel's discography, and can ably recommended with his recording of Schubert songs to anybody who wants to get to know his work well. It can also be recommended to Rodgers & Hammerstein fans old and new.
By the way, I also recommend the Rodgers & Hammerstein Songbook for Orchestra, with another superlative Telarc offering by the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra and Erich Kunzel. This recital is just as outstanding as Terfel's R&H offering. And, there is a wealth of cast recordings that new R&H fans will want to snap up, so this Terfel disc will be an ideal stepping-stone for them.
Broadway or Opera... This CD is indeed ýSomething Wonderfulý.......2003-07-25
To begin, Rodgers and Hammerstein couldn't be more appropriately sung. From a time before electric amplification the sweeping melodies of Richard Rodgers were intended to be sung as Bryn illustrates. As I say every time, his diction is impeccable, his musicianship is unsurpassed, and his enthusiasm is wonderful. As for Oscar Hammerstein, I'm sure he doesn't mind a little foreign accent... because every word is clear and understandable.
To compare the accent of Terfel to Pavarotti and Carreras is simply misguided. Although Pavarotti and Carreras are top-notch for what they do, neither pursues `Broadway' music seriously. Their ventures into the medium are limited to Gala concerts and the occasional snippet on a CD... not on stage depicting a role, but simply to sing a beautiful song. Mr. Terfel, on the other hand, researches the roles, coaches them, and is constantly pursued to perform them. His accent is one of slight vowel or consonant differences, which do not detract from the beautiful music. The music is well done and the story clear. Lets not nitpick diction or the French will have our hides for Les Miserables!
For the music, the recording quality is great. One reviewer mentioned poor sound quality and I do believe that person may have a bad disk or player... on my end the sound is full and robust; Bryn's voice dominates the sound. The orchestrations are full and lush. When dealing with modern houses and theatres the orchestra pits are usually quite small, and consequently the ensembles themselves. CDs like this one allow for fully orchestrated music to be heard, with a large symphony of musicians. The numbers that utilize chorus, which sings very well, are well balanced.
This disk is a great buy in my book. Bryn Terfel is a phenomenal performer and he sings this genre excellently. Check out his `If Ever I Would Leave You', `Under The Stars', `We'll Keep a Welcome', `Songs of My Welsh Home', and numerous classical recordings like `Opera Arias', `Meet Bryn Terfel', `The Vagabond', `Wagner', `Schumann Lieder', and an large collection of full opera recordings.
