Customer Reviews:
A breath of fresh air.......2004-10-29
Stylistically, this album runs the gamut from tongue-in-cheek cheesy fusion to chamber music to use of demented human sequencers. Each piece is unique in its own way. The music is very difficult to describe since Aksak Maboul were treading virign territory and there are very few obvious reference points. A sense of playfulness pervades the music which is really quite refreshing given the attitude of most punk music in 1977. Marc Hollander and Vincent Kenis were very keen on deconstructing genres such as jazz, folk, tango, chamber music, and then reassembling them into something new and unique. On the whole, I think they succeed and it is interesting to hear this process captured on record.
This album comes highly reccomended to all fans of avant-prog, RIO, and those curious in broadening their musical horizons. Unlike thier follow up, on this album Aksak Maboul lacks a proper rythym section, so the songs lack the urgency and energy as those on Un Peu De L'Ame Des Bandits. However, on the whole the music is excellent and you will not be dissapointed by this CD.
