4 out of 5 stars album has a baby on the front and a tractor on the back.......2005-04-10

Electroleum, Tension on sight, and Distance are the highlights of this wacky, varied but consistently quality album. The album takes a down turn on tracks 8-11, but the last two song, mellow and with more real vocals than the rest of the album, are about the best. That sound effect in Distance is crazy at high volume.

4 out of 5 stars Excellent Electronic Works.......2004-12-07

Against higher level reasoning, I bought this CD on a whim soley off of its rave reviews on the cd cover and my gut instinct. Thankfully, I was not disappointed. Although admittedly ignorant of 7 Hurtz's previous works, I'd have to say the group did a fine job isolating the "feel" of electronic music and reveling in it. For me, it feels like a mix of Orbital and all those other eclectic early-90s artists that defined the digital dance sound. Utilizing the kitsch sounds of old-school 808s and 909s with the EQing know-how and technique of today, Electroleum captures all the fun from those classic sounds without any of the hokeyness. This album garners only 4 stars due to it losing some steam in the later tracks, going decidedly more mellow and down-tempo, and its respectable but slightly short 52 minute runtime. Regardless, the first 6 tracks more then make up for any slight failings and makes this album a must-have for any electronic music connoisseur. After listening to this album, I am certainly going to investigate their earlier works in hopes that they are even close to this one.
