5 out of 5 stars PREPARE FOR TAKE OFF!!!!.......2005-08-11

I'm ashamed to say where I picked up this CD...but needless to say "Cruising Altitude" is the follow-up to Dimitri's awesomely spectacular "Sacrebleu". A bit more subdued than its predessesor, DJ Dynamo Dimitri still brings you stellar lounge sounds and an overall feel of being in another country sippin' on Martinis and soakin' up the sun. This CD "takes flight" with its impressive line-up of vocalists and dreamy cinematic orchestrations. And to you club-heads, yeees, there's still the occasional house track here and there for your booty's pleasure. Dimitri delivers on "Cruising Altitude", proving that he's as fantastic a producer as he is a DJ. Highly Recommended!!!!

Sorry, Dimitri--but I saw it in a bargain bin at one of those salvage centers so I got it!

2 out of 5 stars Warning: this is not a CD!.......2004-07-14

First - "artistic" rating. The content of DFP's work is very nice and mellow - even though a couple of tracks (like "Okinawa Love") leave me perplexed. I'd give it 4 stars.

Now, the technical... Contrary to what's advertised on this website, it is not an "Audio CD" - as in "internationally adopted CD standard originally by Philips" JVC released a crippled non-standard version in the guise of "copy protection"! The package says it does not play on Macs, and not on DVD players of certain (?) regions (I can't read Japanese). When I try to play it on my PC, it launches Microsoft Media Player and plays tracks at 48kbps (only 48!) - which also means no playing on Linux. Shame on JVC!

5 out of 5 stars Par Excellence; what I expect from Dimitri.......2004-02-03

This CD is great and was worth every penny of the high import price. This is a wonderful collection of tracks that are a good follow up to his first release, he covers a good spectrum from from house tracks (Not Quite Disco, Live Jazz, Paris Brooklyn) to loungy jazzy numbers (Okinawa Love, Merumo, Toi Mon Auto) and downtempo (Syracuse). It is certainly Dimitri with his unique French take, coupled with a little of what I have heard coming from Japan as of late (i.e. the French part is a little toned down at times, but not too much). This is the best CD I have heard in some time and a great addition to any collection. I love them all, even Bokura No Mazinger Z, which is undoubtably a bit of an aquired taste. Live Jazz is reminicient of a Nicola Conte type sound, but nothing but Dimitri describes this album!

5 out of 5 stars Not quite as good as Sacreblue, but very close.......2004-01-20

Much like Tricky will never have another Maxinquaye, I believe Dimitri From Paris will never have another album quite like Sacreblue. It's simply a classic. That being said, with my anticipation for this new album tempered slightly, it is a very good album. The other reviewer is correct, the songs are not as much sample driven as Sacreblue. Which is not necessarily bad. I keep thinking "Not Quite Disco" is just an average track, but I can't stop playing it. "Okinawa Love" is reminicsent of "Un Womans Paradise" from Sacreblue without the samples. The songs range from uptempo disco to more loungy type songs, again, much like Sacreblue. I like the way they are sequenced however, they flow together well despite the variance in styles and you don't get tired of one style, even though "Not Quite Disco" is over 7 minutes long. All in all, who knows when the domestic release will be, so I would say if you're one of the people who thought Sacreblue was great, you should definetly pick this up, even considering the price tag. If you're on the fence, this isn't a groundbreaking release, so I might wait. One more interesting thing I noted: On Amazon, this version I purchased was $36.99 and was titled "Cruising Attitude [IMPORT]", which is exactly what I received. However there is also a "version" titled "Soulsource presents: Crushing Altitude" which is $42.99. I don't know if another version exists or why the name is different (Crushing Altitude vs. Cruising Attitude), but the $36.99 version I purchased is as advertised; maybe someone else can comment on the different names / versions. I know Sacreblue had about a 100 different versions, so I don't doubt its possible, I just wonder what the differences are.

5 out of 5 stars Not quite disco!.......2004-01-09

I've been following Dimitri for a while since Sacrebleu and over the past years he had been really focusing on Disco with his two Playboy compilation albums and Salsoul Mix album.

Now he is back with the stuff that made him unique and one of the best DJ. Cruising Attitude is a resemblance to Sacrebleu. The album opens with the track "Not Quite Disco" a cool House track with funky bass lines that makes you think it is not sampled at all. There are other house/disco tracks also like "Paris-Brooklyn" and "Bokura No Mazinger Z" but they are just average. What makes the album good is that the rest of the tracks that are really mellow and loungey. My personal favorites are "Merumo" and "Okinawa Love" - really cool mellow tunes with Japanese vocal samples. This is my second most frequently listened album of 2003 right after Thievery Corporation: "The Richest Man in Babylon". I recommend this album to anyone who is into lo-fid/lounge music and also watch out for his upcoming mix album "In the House".

5 out of 5 stars Worth the wait........2003-06-01

It seems it's been forever since Sacrebleu, Dimitri's first album of his own music (with it's muliple releases & subsequent re-releases!) But, despite wondering if we'd ever get another collection of his own songs, it seemed well enough to find satisfaction in his excellent compilations showcasing his talents as D.J.-extrordinaire.
Especially wonderful was the "Playboy Mansion" series, where Dimitri mixed contemporary & vintage tracks with such breadth and diversity so as to inspire fits of spending on all those artist's CD's that somehow escaped your collection (i.e.-Imagination...). But now, finally, at long last, a new CD of original songs!

Surprise no.# 1: These songs are not sample-driven, as those on Sacrebleu were. In fact, there doesn't seem to be any use of sampling on this record. (Not that this imparts superiority - but it's interesting...maybe this is why Crusing Altitude took so long?)
Surprise no.# 2: This album is quite varied, shifting between a few disco-eque tracks, and more loungecore-oriented material. ( Also, vocals show up in many tracks.)
The album is an enjoyable listen and impressively well rounded. My only criticism is that as a whole, the CD turns out to be a rather mellow listening experience...but, really, that's not a criticism, just an observation. I guess it's just that after getting to know Dimitri from Paris as the D.J. with such a firm and dextrous grasp of the groove, I personally would have enjoyed a few more tracks like "Not Quite Disco" and "Paris-Brooklyn"
