4 out of 5 stars A musical visionary........2007-04-04

Eddy Grant's groundbreaking and innovative fusion of R&B, Rock, Reggae and African rhythms made for some truly unique music--the best of which is anthologized here. Although most of Eddy's original CDs are currently unavailable this CD gives you some of his best tracks while proving just what a musical visionary he was. My omly complaint is that the ringbang remix of "Electric Avenue" is unnecessary filler material--especially when the vastly superior original version is featured here.

5 out of 5 stars Romancing The Stone.......2007-01-15

This song needed much more air play - not to mention how it was robbed by not being the theme song for the movie itself. I could listen to this over and over.

5 out of 5 stars Eddy Grant's Greatest Hits.......2007-01-03

It is a wonderful CD. I had never heard of him before I heard "Electric Avenue" and bought the CD for that one song.

5 out of 5 stars Showcases Grant's catchy blend of pop and reggae with hits from 1977 to 2001.......2006-07-01

Eddy Grant is one of the giants of the reggae genre. The unique late Seventies and Eighties sound will bring back memories of lazy, sunny days.
This album succesfully showcases his foot-tapping , feel-good music with tracks such as the disco-beat Electric Avenue in both the 1982 original and the 2001 Ringband Remix. The laidback I Don't Wanna Dance (1982) , Can't Get Enough of You (1981) anb Do You Feel My Love (1981) , the Afro-Carribean jamboree Hello Africa (1977), the jiving Latin Love Affair (1982) , the fast-paced Nobody's Got Time (1977) the call for an end to African civil wars , Living On The Frontline (1979) , the energetic Killer On the Rampage (1982)and the Hip-Hop style Ten Out of Ten (2001). If you like music that makes you fell good, this album will get you hooked on Eddy Grant's fantastic reggae-pop blend.

4 out of 5 stars Best place to start if your getting into Eddy Grant.......2006-04-22

This greatest hits is ideal for anyone who is starting to get into Eddy Grant, like myself. Like Stevie Wonder, Paul McCartney, Todd Rundgren before him and Prince after him, Grant plays and sings every instrument and voice on his solo albums. This greatest hits package is a collection of some of his best works. The big hits are there 'Electric Avenue' UK#2, 'I Don't Wanna Dance' #1, 'Living On The Frontline' #11, 'Do You Feel My Love?' #8, 'Can't Get Enough Of You' #13 and 'Gimme Hope Jo'anna' #7. But save for 'Living On The Frontline', 'Can't Get Enough Of You' and 'Do You Feel My Love?', which are the best from the hits he had over here, the best songs are the funk-flying 'Walking On Sunshine' which was a modest US R&B hit, small hit 'War Party' a slow ska-tinged jam, 'Hello Africa' one of his first compositions from 1977's Message Man and a percussive treat, the slow, reflective ballad, 'Another Revolutionary' and the brilliant pop-reggae of 'Killer On The Rampage'.
Of course the collection isn't perfect as it is missing a couple of his hits ('I Love You, Yes I Love You', 'Till I Can't Take Love No More' and 'Romancing The Stone'). But this collection will more than help give you an insight of most of Grant's career. It's unfortunate that this major talent will be overlooked in favour of artists such as Robbie Williams in reflective period but I strongly advise you to check out Grant's catalogue. You will experience things you don't get with most artists today.

    4 out of 5 stars What a CD!!!.......2001-07-25

When i recieved this CD as a gift, i was a little skeptical. I wasn't really that much of a fan. But after listening to the 1st track....I was HOOKED! This CD features some absolute classics. I have to say that the re-mastering REALLY makes a difference, especially to 'Baby come Back' and 'Electric Avenue'. I would recommend this CD to people who LOVE good, late 80's-style, music even if they aren't, necessarily, Eddy Grant fans. I wasn't, but I am now!

    Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Melodic, intelligent reggae.......2004-01-09

This great album compiles Eddy Grant's greatest hits and also offers some excellent 12-inch dance remixes of his best songs. Not only does Grant have a talent for catchy tunes, but his lyrics are very intelligent, often having a message of some sort as in the song about democracy in South Africa called Gimme Hope Joanna.

The first disc contains the original versions of his massive chartbusters like I Don't Wanna Dance, Electric Avenue, Living On The Frontline and Do You Feel My Love, and goes even further back to his very first hits like Baby Come Back. They are all superb reggae tracks with a fine pop sensibility and propulsive beats.

Disc Two contains breathtaking club mixes of songs like Frontline, Hello Africa, Walking On Sunshine and Do You Feel My Love, making this album absolutely essential for the Eddy Grant fan. The rhythmic textures here are very impressive and lend a fresh new perspective to the original songs.

Grant was a unique talent in the reggae world, rootsy enough for the reggae enthusiast but accessible enough for the lover of mainstream music - that's why he had such a good chart run in the seventies and eighties. He was also a brilliant composer, lyricist and singer. I highly recommend this album to all reggae fans.
