From KLF to Raggae-Soul.......2003-04-11

Maxine is the known voice of KLF ("3AM eternal", "Mu Mu land"). There she sung dance tracks. Here she sings a mix of Raggae and Soul. It is quite nice, but somehow you get the impression that the production is not high quality. it's an ok album for a good mood and a soulfeeling

A terrific album from the KLF's Maxine Harvey. Hopefully, the label will reissue this title and amazon.com will list is as a related artist to the KLF... as the voracious fans of the latter would definitely enjoy owning this very entertaining record.

Sa-fire Don't Break My Heart CD single review..........2005-03-31

There are 9 tracks on this CD, and none of them had the remix I was looking for. I have the Wild Workout at Noon Vol.1 CD, and it has Don't Break My Heart on it, but I wanted a version that didn't have the Wild Workout title said over the beginning and end of the song. This sure didn't have it. Sounded a lot different. I guess that's what you get with a blind buy. I bought from Doolicity and they sure shipped it out quick. Good service, not what I was expecting on the CD though.

this is a great remixed, reworked version of the freestyle/dance hit of 1986 by the legendary diva herself, safire. this is the song that made safire a raising star! tony moran and kenny diaz mixes are awesome, safire's vocals get better all the time. check out the "booty mix" and the "tribal mix" my personal favorites.

I recently saw SAFIRE performing this past weekend while in NYC -She sang a couple of her hit songs, including this updated version of "DONT BREAK MY HEART". I had to buy the cd single, great house music and it sounded even better at a club - it's great to have her back on the scene and i look forward to her new CD. she also sang a couple of her other updated hits. totally awesome!!

i have yearned for a cd copy of her first self-titled album for many years now, but recently found out that it is not going to be released.pity,because i feel that it's the best dance music album of my entire collection, and i have lots of music.I was excited to see a remix of an older song.The remix of "don't break my heart" is so-so, but the remix of "love is on her mind" that is on this cd is sooo cool!!! it gives me high hopes that her forthcoming greatest hits cd will be increadible.good luck safire!!!1

The evolution of a great singer........2002-12-03

In her lifetime of 96 years, American contralto Marian Anderson was celebrated perhaps more as a crusader for the victims of a colour prejudice in their home country than as a gifted and well-trained singer. The emphasis was probably misplaced. When interviewed in her old age she said, "I was never a fighter". She was certainly a superb singer, as this not-to-be-missed Naxos bargain allows C21st listeners to hear.

It comprises a varied selection of items from her repertoire recorded between 1924 and 1944. The two earliest items do not show her at her best. Slow moving Negro spirituals, they cruelly expose the presence of some ugly vowel and consonant sounds at this stage of her career. Thereafter, however, and into the electric recording era, diction and tone are exemplary. Only six of the items were recorded in the USA, mostly in poor sound quality. The 1944 item, an aria from Massenet's "Le Cid", provides a glimpse into Marian Anderson's potential as an opera singer, something she was unable to realize in the USA until the very end of her career.

Of course, the item that became this singer's "signature tune" is here. Pruned of some of its music, and of the tenor counterpoint provided in its second half by Samson, the extract from "Samson et Dalila" is sung in English as "Softly awakes my heart". Once heard, this performance will gently but firmly insinuate intself into your consciousness, your memory and your soul and live with you forever.
