Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Drum Prayer is out of this world !.......2002-12-26

Wow ! This new release from Steve Gordon is really exceptional. I got it as a gift for the holidays and it just blew my mind. The orchestration and exotic insturments are amazing and the blend of vocals with chants from around the world really creates a trencendent sound. I've been blissed out for the past several hours and can't stop playing it. Spectacular and highly recommended !

5 out of 5 stars Drum Prayer made me feel an akin-ship to the whole world........2002-11-13

I've never written a review before, but when I heard this album, I felt compelled to write my feelings down of what it invoked and share them with someone. I've hardly listened to much native sounding music, but this album is much more contemporary and it reached a place in me I didn't know I had. I just sat there and rocked with the rhythms. Drum Prayer made me feel an akin-ship to the whole of the world. I didn't know what the words meant when listening the first couple of times, I just got into the instrumentation and vocals., They were so joyful, so soothing and visionary that I was compelled to at last read the liner notes. The Sanskrit, Tibetan and Lakota chants added to the native drums, flute and guitar are so well woven together, I can't imagine how it could have been done any better. I have played this album countless times already and enjoy it every time. My favorite track is `Holding the Vision'. I highly recommend this album.

5 out of 5 stars Drum Prayer is entrancing.......2002-11-05

I find this new release by Steve Gordon to be exquisite and perfect for massage, yoga, tantra and ecstatic dance. The blending of diverse instruments and sacred devotional chants are absolutely entrancing, making it exceptionally easy to slip deeply into an exhalted state of bliss. The vocals are particularly beautiful. I have really been a fan of Steve's previous work with both his brother David and Deborah Martin, and with the release of Drum Prayer I feel that he's really outdone himself. I absolutely love it.

5 out of 5 stars Drum Prayer Gets High Praises.......2002-10-23

This new solo project release from Steve Gordon is exceptional. A real groundbreaking piece of work for the genre, combining a variety of nature sounds and indigenous instruments from around the world, with chants for world peace from several different cultures including Lakota, Sanskrit and Tibetian. This recording melds all of these apparently diverse cultural aspects and sounds together into a delightfully inspiring and unified mix of ancient shamanic rhythms and contemporary world-beat music. Gordon has assembled a virtual host of top artists for this release, including brother David on piano, vocalists Jaya Lakshmi (Lost at Last), Lakshami Devi and Laurie Lovecraft as well as percussionists Girish Gambhira and Kim Atkinson and the amazing Sarod playing of Wynne Paris, with Digeridoo provided by Peter Van Gorder and additional electric guitar and synthesizer tracks from Spotted Peccary Music's Howard Givens. Drum Payer is brilliantly uplifting while still remaining entrancingly relaxing allowing the listener to explore uncharted expanses of this new and vivid sonic realm. The vocals are sensational and incredibly serene. The CD has been playing in the background of my home office for the past several days and each new listen reveals something new and deeper in the mix. Truly an extraordinary work deserving of the highest praise. Drum Prayer is an absolute winner !

5 out of 5 stars DRUM PRAYER - STEVE GORDON.......2002-10-14

"As a nature enthusiast, I enjoy relaxing outside, reading a good book and listening to "earthy" music that gives me inner peace. That music is DRUM PRAYER by Steve Gordon. This title is a blend of contemporary world beats and ancient sounds with a flavor of sacred chants. I love the jazz/spanish guitar, feathery flutes, native drums and the ambient dance grooves. This is a winner...a 5 Star!!!" Jeananne/Fullerton, CA

Album Description

Excellent double disc mix album from one of the world's up-and-coming trance superstars. Disc 1 mixed by Sander Kleinenberg, Disc 2 mixed by Lee Burridge.

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars It takes time to enjoy this CD.......2007-05-28

When I first got the CD, I was a little disappointed. After listening to Lee's Disc for about 3 times, I started to feel the beat. At that point I was wondering why Sander did a poor job on his Disc.
After listening to Lee's Disc for about 1 week, I decided to give Sander's Disc another try, and I was surprised because Sander's disc had a better set than Lee's Disc(which was already amazing), but it just took time to get into this CD.

3 out of 5 stars Half good in my opinion.......2007-02-21

I liked Sander's disc a lot. His style is very off-beat and different than most of his peers. He has a taste for mixing unusual trance and house tracks as his style. I enjoyed his mix as much as his other "This is Everybody" compilations and perhaps the best of the 5 total discs in his sets.

On the otherhand, I cannot say much for the Burridge compilation. To me, it was boring. It didn't have the flash and sounds I have come to love in the Electronica genre. His style is much more subtle than the multi-layered and complex rhythms of most trance/house stylings. Much more simple synth cords over solid beats. Not quite my taste, but perhaps others differ.

5 out of 5 stars Give it a few good listens!.......2007-02-06

First listen: mediocre, disappointment
Second listen: Lee's disc has some great beats
Third listen: SANDER's HIDDEN GENIUS EMERGES!!!!
I Love both CD's. To me, it's one of Sander's best. Just give it a good listen in your car, Alone, no interruptions. You will rediscover the hidden subtleties behind Sander's head-thumping beats! The progression is even better than his other two Everybody's.
Lee's disc was amazing, great tunes, great beats. But Lee fails to meet the depth and classy talent that Sander pulsates with.
Dark, powerful, and confident DJ'ing from both CD's! They also managed to add some great funky flavors by using lots of COWBELL and CLAPPING!
My ears are aching from listening to this cd too loud

1 out of 5 stars Sander seems to release one great recording for a while.......2007-01-06

and since the previous one was absolutely amazing, this one is....I threw it out the car window. I've never heard such boring and random acts wimp ness as this recording is. So sticking to my trend next one should be much better.

5 out of 5 stars Expanding the Limitations of Sound.......2006-08-25

In the past several years, I have been dissapointed many times by the more and more electro-funk/retro-80s vocal style that most Djs have started playing.

This is Everybody! On tour is different. It does not take you back to the deep dark progressive sounds and beats of the Delta heavy times. However, it is far from a cheesy vocal mix overpowerd by electro sounds.

This CD is a great introduction to the range of styles that encompass progressive house as it is today and somewhat allow us to open up to some of the newer elements present today. It includes tracks form different styles, all pretaining a certain pushing element and deep baseline that keeps the music interesting and energetic, without getting annoying.

Disc 1 is somewaht of a compositions.starts out with a track that would fit best into a eclectic electronica genre and slowly builds up a tempo. As the Cd progresses the Basslines become heavier and deeper. Although never loosing a groovy touch, the first CD is a goood mix that does not get boering.

Disc 2 starts out much faster. It is more of a dance mix then a composition. Many of the songs have driving baselines that are deep and still groovy. Although sometimes vocal, this CD keeps it interesting by alternating progressive styles.

Overall I loved both CD's, more than the previous release by Sander K.

Product Description

The "Synthpop Club Anthems" series has become the most popular modern synthpop compilation released in America. This fourth volume continues to build on the solid reputation of the first 3 volumes, gathering together some of the most high-energy, solid remixes and stand-out tracks from within the growing synthpop underground.

The modern synthpop scene is vast in scope and variety, embracing many styles and sounds, appealing to fans of the classic 80's synthpop pioneers, but without falling exclusively into the "retro" vibe. These songs blend the great songs and catchy melodics of synthpop with the modern production and the energetic club sounds of trance, futurepop, and industrial dance music.

So often, it is difficult to find club music that offers more than a pounding beat and instrumental loops that appear to run on auto-pilot. The modern synthpop scene manages to rise above, combining the intense electronic backdrop needed to work the dance floor into a frenzy, while adding meaningful lyrics, great singers, and a catchy tune that will stay in your mind after you leave the club. You'll want to listen again in your own home, in your car, and at work, because aside from being "club music", it's simply great pop!

In a music landscape filled with slick, but predictable mix cds, we can thank the dance gods for Sander Kleinenberg. Hailing from The Hague, Holland, his willingness to venture into more cerebral material lifts This Is Everybody Too into the same tech-space dreamland that gave its predecessor, Everybody such a lovely kick. The electro and experimental tangents are more in the foreground here, as both discs in the 2-disc set are woven throughout with sparse sounds from the likes of the Junior Boys ("Birthday") and Robag Wruhme (the schizophrenic "Hugenduble"). But along with the New Wave fixations and highbrow electronics, Too gets dirty as well, especially on Kleinenberg's own ultra-funky "The Fruit" from Disc 2. And there's nothing intellectual about the big thumps and up-vibe house melodies that drop on songs from Deepsky, Ericke, among others. Few DJs, in fact, can pull off a compilation with such appeal to both the brain and the body, but that's just another day in the office for this man. --Matthew Cooke

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Thank you.......2006-09-13

This cd is faboulous. I bought This is everybody on tour first and it took me a while to warm up to it. This cd is a hit right off the first bat with Birthday by Junior Boys. It might not match up with his Nubreed double disc but it is different, yeah, it is different.

4 out of 5 stars Sander my Savior! pt 2.......2006-03-23

A great follow up to his 'Everybody' disc set, Too, is bold, dark and what I'd consider, auditory heaven at times. This second set of discs has what feels more like a mix of daytime and nighttime tracks. Some bouncy, vocal and melodic - good for the day of the party ("Mindtrip"). Some trax could be found during super-dark 3am-6am sweat drenching aft hrs parties ("Seventh Morning"). Of course, like any compilation, you'll find a few tracks to be weak or fillers, but which those may or may not be are up to each lucky Sander listener.

If you like music categorized as "deep, dark, house", then add this to your collection, Too! ;-)

5 out of 5 stars Sander K at his best.......2005-10-31

CD1: 4.5 stars
CD2: 5 stars
Sander K manages to produce another bad ass set. I didn't like Everybody Too at first, but it has been slowly growing on me. The mix has a retro feel to it just like Everybody. Depending on your taste, you may enjoy either CD1 over CD2 or visa-versa. I love CD2 because it is very smooth and the way Sander K transitions in between Party to the Music and Waves is mind numbing! He uses what I call a stutter-step beat as a pivot over to the next song (difficult to explain), which is the icing on the cake. CD1 is great with a good selection of retro songs that blend well with the combination of modern beats. Nothing much else to say other this set shows Sander K doing his best: mixing songs and making you forgot your troubles.

4 out of 5 stars Kleinenberg's best???.......2005-07-01

Loved this mix. Can't say that I'm too fond of Disc one, but Disc two is "off the hook". Great track selection - this one's playing at my next party.

5 out of 5 stars Undoubtedly The Best Dance Album of 2004!.......2005-06-26

Brilliant, funky, twisted, innovative, unprecidented! Finally, here's an album that showcases the future of House music. Nothing cheesy here folks.

4 out of 5 stars Ultimate Dance?.......2002-08-22

There are several items about this CD that I wish to praise: 1) It is chock-full of Dance Remixes that were previously unavailable to a Dance Deprived U.S. public. 2) The cover does not indicate that the mixes contained herein are not the played-out radio versions, but rather vastly superior club remixes; thus "tricking" unsuspecting tasteless masses into purchasing some very good music! 3) The track selection is pretty good, with two noteable exceptions... Missy's "Get Ur Freak On" and Busta's "Pass The Courvoisier" are two songs that are hopelessly worthless. Mary J. Blige's "No More Drama" and Janet's "All For You" are two of Thunderpuss' best remixes of late, Enrique Iglesias' "Escape" gets the royal treatment from His Dance Highness Giorgio Moroder, and Angie Stone and Deborah Cox have their songs kicked up a notch by remix god Hex Hector. Perhaps the most pleasant suprise is the stunningly beautiful Metro Remix of Luther Vandross' "I'd Rather." All in all, I'm pleased with my $$$ investment.

4 out of 5 stars Great for a Good Workout.......2002-07-30

This is a FUN CD. I love dance music but rarely get to go out to clubs. With this CD I can bring the club to my car, my gym, my house...you get the picture. While I wasn't crazy about all the mixes (Enrique Iglesias, Janet Jackson), the majority were very good to excellent. I even discovered some new songs! My faves: Mary J, Alicia Keys, Lamya, Andrea Brown.
I'm always looking for good dance compilations with good mixes of recognizable songs. This one delivers!

5 out of 5 stars This CD is Hot!.......2002-07-16

I love this CD -- every song is fun & oh so dance worthy! I highly recommend it. This CD is great because the people who made it took the best songs from 2001 & 2002 & added a funky dance vibe to each song.

1 out of 5 stars Ewww! This is a disaster!.......2002-07-01

Now that singles are virtually unavailable in the American market, labels are spewing out hits compilations at a speed that is absolutely startling. Some of these discs are better than others, but this one is amongst the worst offenders. I can close my eyes and imagine the focus group that came up with this album at their weekly meeting: "Let's round up some of the tackiest, most overplayed mainstream dance hits and cram them into an album. Sure, these songs have appeared on other compilations, but since we're marketing to 14-year-old suburban teens, they'll still lap this one up!" The biggest misfire is the housed-up "Get Ur Freak On" by Missy Elliot. Memo to DJs: you can't remix this single! This version here basically siphons the raw sexiness that made the original so appealing. Big mistake. Likewise with their version of Busta Rhymes. Elsewhere, we see countless other singles that we've heard a zillion times before: "Absolutely Not" by Deborah Cox, "All for You" by Janet Jackson, and we're treated to "One More Time" by Daft Punk. There's nothing wrong with these singles. In fact I love all of them. The problem is that this collection doesn't dig deep enough for gems that may have slipped past the radar screen. Instead, they shoot for the obvious. Fans who don't get out much and want a cheat-sheet to dance may be pleased with this. But the discriminating dance music lover won't help but cringe.

5 out of 5 stars SUSAN HAYWARD BELTS IT OUT.......2005-03-31

This CD is a rare treat for Susan Hayward fans - a chance to hear her do her own singing in the film "I'll Cry Tomorrow" based on the story of Lillian Roth, who battled alcoholism in her life. The sound quality is EXCELLENT and the CD includes extensive notes, and even includes unused tracks, such as the vocal efforts of studio vocalist Sandy Ellis, who was originally going to dub for Hayward. Many people are not aware that the real Lillian Roth was disapointed that her own voice tracks were not used for the film. But, Hayward surprised everyone with her surprisingly goodvocal range. The background music is exceptionally fineas well, and is all included here. This CD is a must-have for Susan Hayward fans - and lovers of fine film score music as well.

5 out of 5 stars The best CD I have ever bought!.......2007-04-16

this is epic and progressive trance. very high energy. i run, kickbox and bike ride to this. it just makes you want to move. i have "This is Trance" and "This is Trance vol 3" and this is by far the best.

most of the songs have some vocals which i never thought that i would like, but i love these!
Talla 2xlc is now one of my favorite DJs. also Armin van Buuren.
    10 stars!
