If you haven't been up all night in juarez..........2002-10-14

First go see 'touch of evil', and then buy this record. Long John Hunter cut these sides as a minimally-experienced factory worker who knew what kind of sound he wanted, if he didn't know much else about music [the liner notes consist of a fantastic interview with LJH about this time], backed up by a band of fellow amateurs having a great time with some hard-rocking blues and amped-up pop ditties. A great example of the fusion of western swing, country, blues, r and b and mexican music in the southwest. with the rawness of his backup and his biting tele-tone, Long John lays down a musical blueprint for Texas blues rock and a spiritual one for d.i.y. music of any stripe.

A MUST HAVE!.......2003-11-24

This is a must have CD! Full of musical richness as well as Duffy's rich, powerful and incredibly versatile voice. From the the soulful start to the rocking finish, this CD will hook you on all tracks. The band is tight and is the perfect vehicle to showcase Duffy's sound. Not only is this CD fun to listen to, it will have you tapping your toes - unless you are up and dancing! If you are not able to catch Duffy live in the Portland area (which I would highly recommend), then this is the next best thing!!!

Amazing energy and emotion.......2003-11-23

I have had the rare honor and privilege of hearing Duffy Bishop and her band perform live. So I was curious to see if the amazing energy and emotion that she brings to her live performance would possibly translate to her new CD - Ooh Wee. I was not disappointed and would highly recommend it.

From the first time I heard Duffy sing, I knew she was something special. Not "just" a singer, but one with a tremendously versatile singing voice - from impossibly low tones that make you tremble to powerful heights that bring out the goosebumps. She can sing with wild, emotional abandon, yet total musical control. When Duffy Bishop sings, you believe what this woman is singing. She is backed by a phenomenal band on this CD - fantastic guitar, piano and Hammond organ solos and backup abound throughout. Tight and rich vocal background harmonies on Act Right, You're Gonna Make Me Cry and I'm Blue make you want to listen again and again. You find your whole body movin' to Alley Cat and Rock House.

Buy this CD - it's a great one.

Amazing.......2003-11-08

Ooh Wee! is awesome from beginning to end. You will be swept away by Duffy's soulful vocals on Combination for Love and Ain't No Use. Then you'll be up dancing to Rock House and Keep on Churnin, a lovely little ditty about dairy products (wink). Do yourself a favor and buy this CD. You won't regret it.

Ooo wee, indeed ..........2005-03-30

This is NOT a CD by Walter Hawkins and his family.

It is a CD by a southern quartet style group, and it is good for what it is.

However, I repeat again that this is NOT a Walter Hawkins CD in any way, shape or form -- regardless of what Amazon has it listed under (and I have submitted a correction form).

Even looking at the cover art, I thought it may have been an old pic of the Hawkins family ... like their cousins or something. Artists do that on occasion. Nuh-uh. This is The Hawkins Family all right, but a completely different one than Walter and his crew.

And the two music styles are like night and day!

Having said that, "help yourself" if you like hometown sounding, southern quartet-style gospel. This CD is not what I expected at all ... but maybe this will tell you something: "Ooh Wee" is good enough that I have decided to keep it!
