Album Description

Jazz lost its way when people stopped dancing to it. Back in the 40's, Jazz was America's pop music. Then musicians got too hip, the playing got too far out, and the music left the groin and moved to the cerebrum. Big mistake. George Kahn's music covers a wide spectrum of jazz, from bebop to standards to funk to Latin to "smooth" jazz. The idea that holds it all together is that the groove comes first, last and always. The melody supports the groove. The solos stay in the groove. This music grooves - and you can groove with it.

this CD doesn't blow one away, but it is a nice effort. It does
have a good mix of songs and styles, and keeps the beat moving in
a straight forward, main stream jazz style. I picked it up for a song
and play it as background music with my family in the evening.
A nice CD, but nothing to write home about.

Cooking Red Hot With Heart & Soul!!.......2006-03-06

If you love piano with some sass and soul and a touch of sincerity then you are about to fall in love with the talent of George Kahn! He works his musical magic on this cd with the help of equally super-talented musicians Eric Marienthal, Bobby Rodriquez, Karl Vincent, and M. B. Gordy.

This is a very well-produced jazz experience. Wait until you hear Steve Wonder's "Don't You Worry "Bout A Thing". It will blow the top off of your head! "A Bop For Billy" cooks. Each musician is highlighted in this song. Feast your ears to the soulful tribute for Marvin Gaye with "I Heard It Through The Grapevine." Larry Koonse on guitar is so funky! Marvin would have been blown away! "Otro Tu#" is complexly gratifying...one of the finest compositions I have experienced! One listen will simply wow you. The number dedicated to Dave Brubeck "Midnight Brew" must have thrilled him. Tierney Sutton sings a gorgeous vocal on a special song "Out Of Time". Justo Almario adds jazzy variety with the flute on "Night Shadows". The finale (bonus track) is a swingin' tribute to John Coltrane called "12 Short Years".

This cd has everything from bop to soul to Latin sounds to smooth jazz. The sounds of each song flow sweetly into the next. If you can't experience George Kahn live, then this cd is a recommended treat. And a musical journey you will want over and over!

I am so glad I checked this brother's web site or I would never have found this CD!! I was just wondering why there was no follow-up to "SoulCatcher". This is good music and worth the money. Songs that I like-Under the Sun, Beautiful Place, Meant to Be, Movin' On....
He's right there with the other neo-soul kats, Rahsaan Patterson, Bilal, Musik Soulchild, Anthony David, Raheem DeVaughn, Van Hunt....u get the picture! Nice lyrics, nice grooves.....soulful and real. I wish we could hear more of him on radio, then again what do they know? Listen to this brother, he's worth it. exactly what you've been missing.......2006-12-06

the fact that nobody has put in a review still means that people don't understand what Olu brings to the table. i rather believe that people own but haven't gotten around to writing a review. if you own "soul catcher" you won't be disappointed with this one. my favorite track has got to be "beautiful place". the music is intoxicatingly smooth and his vocals do it the perfect justice. i urge everyone to do a little r&b search on this very site and see for yourself how much great music there is just like Olu that the radio refuses to give a chance.

too bad radio doesn't realize the influence it has over its audience because if they did you would realize how much of its music you actually wouldn't listen to. somehow r&b has become "thug" too. are you serious? listen to this cat and others and take a ride you won't want to come back from.

This recording was a joy to write, produce and perform. The lyrics have been described as "adult angst." I prefer to think of them as a window on everyday life. Not every day and every experience is going to be a live or die one, divorce or reconcile one. I tend to think that life has softer edges and ebbs and flows more and is less like "reality tv." If you miss Dan Fogelberg, The Beatles, Burt Bacharach, James Taylor, Poco, Firefall, Simon and Garfunkle, America, Christopher Cross, Steely Dan, Little River Band, The Association, The Mamas and the Papas, Spanky and our Gang, Crosby, Stills and Nash or the Byrds to name a few you'll understand and probably even enjoy this CD very much. It's music that sounds comfortable--you won't have to re-learn the listening experience and the lyrics will make sense--especially to those with children or even moderate sensibilities. After all--we're all a little bit crazy--but in relative stages. I hope you enjoy it.
