Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars AWESOME!!! My favorite mix!.......2007-07-26

This mix is absolutly AMAZING! Since the I bought it, I have not been able to take it out of my car cd player. The track selection and mix really keeps me moving, I loaded it on my iPod and its perfect for my workouts. I love the new version of iio "Rapture", Sunfreaks, Deep Dish, Chris Lake, Depeche Mode.... I mean all the selections and artists are fantastic. I own all the other cds in the ThriveMix collection and the quality is always OUTSTANDING!

5 out of 5 stars Some Trance, Some Not, But All Good.......2007-07-24

This is a great mix. I found myself liking almost every song and that's very rare for me with most compilations. Gabriel and Dresdens "Dangerous Power" and Delerium's "Lost and Found" remixes on this album are a must hear. The Trentemoller remix Moby's "Go" is worth buying the CD altogether. The PVD remix of Depeche Mode is excellent too. I love this album because it is not your usual repetitive trance album. It moves from vocal and melodic to electro tinged trance and it has some big club tunes (like the Iio, Sunfreakz and Chris Lake tracks) that while maybe not traditional trance, are huge songs that really round out the mix. This is one of few compilations where I will load the entire album onto my Ipod.

4 out of 5 stars ThriveMix does it again..........2007-07-24

Once again ThriveMix has put out a brilliant TranceAnthems compilation. I love the trance remixes of Depeche Mode, Hilary Duff, and iiO. And since I just saw Wicked, I was pretty stoked to see the remix of 'Defying Gravity.' I have all of the ThriveMix line, and this was a pleasant addition.

3 out of 5 stars A few good songs; a lot of filler.......2007-07-17

Thrivemix is releasing these compilation cds left and right. I might be wrong, but I think that this is the fifth dance compilation that thrivemix has put out in the last year. It's also my least favorite. There are some good songs here. I still love "Flashdance" by Deep Dish. There's also a new version of "Rapture" by dance favorite Iio. However, most of the tracks on here are just mediocre. If you want a good Thrivemix collection, buy Thrivemix Presents Dance Anthems.

4 out of 5 stars House Party.......2006-08-28

Overall this is a good cd that puts together a collection of songs that have appeared else where but this cd puts a new spin to them. The remix of Mynt's you're the only one, is awesome. Other personal stand outs are Chanels My Life and Work this P***Y. Get ready to dance.

5 out of 5 stars I SIMPLY LOVE THIS CD!!!.......2006-03-17

Now these are bonafied club songs. Especially "Work This P****y" by MAD8 WORK (Robbie Rivera's Miami Mix). It really blows the speakers off my system! I strictly reconmend this Album. And this comes from a guy that loves trance!!!

4 out of 5 stars Another Great Entry for Ultra Records.......2006-03-07

Just picked up Club Anthems 3 the other day after having owned the first two albums for a year or more. All together, a good mix . Yes it includes alot of tracks that are available on other discs, but thankfully here they are fresh mixes. I don't know about you, but I can only listen to the same mix of Cascada "Everytime We Touch" only so much. So its a great album, work a look. Favorite tracks are Filterfunk "S.O.S" and Debbie Loeb "Far Away".

Customer Reviews:

1 out of 5 stars Cheese.......2007-01-06

This double-disc is chart trance. The tracks are radio-friendly cheese that you will likely find played on most radio stations. If you are into the club scene, and are hoping to find a cd that has that sound, you'll be disappointed with this purchase. However, if you're looking for something to listen to while getting ready to head out to a club, maybe this chart trance collection will suit your needs.

5 out of 5 stars hot dance tunes mixed up.......2006-11-07

It's not actually trance.. they are some of the best dance house tracks to get you up and moving. very enjoyable and full of energy.

5 out of 5 stars new to the music genre.......2006-10-07

I must say, growing up, i was never exposed to this kind of music. As a music Buff, i decided to give the genre a chance after finding that i was growing tired of the repetition of hip hop, pop and and all of the mainstream genres that i had only known of. I actually was exposed to this genre by a gay friend who took me to his favorite nightclub and i never really grew an interest for it. It wasn't until i bought this album that the interest emerged out of nowhere. I cannot stop listening to this album! Its down right awesome! The music takes control of your senses and you will find your head beating to every song on both cds! I must say i hope that Trance becomes more mainstream in the U.S. because we really are missing out. Anywho, i love this type of music, its so fun and engaging!

5 out of 5 stars THRIVE DOES IT AGAIN!.......2006-09-29

I absolutely love this album!!! I can't stop listening to it...I think I've been dancing since I got it last week. It's like going to the club without the $40 cover and line around the block.
When ThriveMix 01 came out, I bought it for the stellar tracklisting of songs I knew but hadn't heard remixes of, such as Kelly Clarkson, Nina Sky, and Ryan Cabrera, all of which turned out to be great. So when ThriveMix 02 came out I bought it on faith that they would continue the quality, and I was not let down. Now, here is a more focused album for those who love trance and not just the radio hits remixed.
It's hard to choose, by my favorite tracks are Narcotic Thrust's "Waiting For You", Late Night Alumni's "Empty Streets" and of course Tiesto's remix of "He's A Pirate". But I was pleasantly surprised with all the songs, including ones from artists I didn't know before, like Burning Spear or Luminary. I love Paul Oakenfold's remix of Burning Spear (who I found out is a reggae legend), and the remix of Imogen Heap's "Hide & Seek" works despite the emotional weight of the song (made popular by The O.C.). Also check out the great remixes of iio and Conjure One, and the very fun Bob Sinclar "World, Hold On", which IMHO is better than "Love Generation".

BUY THIS! YOU WON'T BE DISAPPOINTED.

Product Description

The "Synthpop Club Anthems" series has become the most popular modern synthpop compilation released in America. This fourth volume continues to build on the solid reputation of the first 3 volumes, gathering together some of the most high-energy, solid remixes and stand-out tracks from within the growing synthpop underground.

The modern synthpop scene is vast in scope and variety, embracing many styles and sounds, appealing to fans of the classic 80's synthpop pioneers, but without falling exclusively into the "retro" vibe. These songs blend the great songs and catchy melodics of synthpop with the modern production and the energetic club sounds of trance, futurepop, and industrial dance music.

So often, it is difficult to find club music that offers more than a pounding beat and instrumental loops that appear to run on auto-pilot. The modern synthpop scene manages to rise above, combining the intense electronic backdrop needed to work the dance floor into a frenzy, while adding meaningful lyrics, great singers, and a catchy tune that will stay in your mind after you leave the club. You'll want to listen again in your own home, in your car, and at work, because aside from being "club music", it's simply great pop!

Customer Reviews:

    Album Description

The popular "Synthpop Club Anthems" series continues, with another yearly installment. This CD highlights some of the ultra-club-friendly synthpop anthems from the 2003-2004 releases, including some of the most popular acts in the scene like De/Vision, Cosmicity, Real Life, and T.O.Y.

The "Synthpop Club Anthems" series appeals to some fans of classic synthpop along the lines of New Order, Depeche Mode, Pet Shop Boys, etc. but also intends to show the genre's forward-looking trends, fusing together different electronic dance elements from futurepop to trance. This is synthpop that can appeal to dance club fans in pretty much any scene, blending pounding electronics with catchy melodies and memorable, meaningful lyrics (a key ingredient to modern synthpop).

Synthpop is by no means a stale, stagnant sound that does nothing but re-live the sounds of the 80's, but instead moves forward, always expanding, evolving, and reaching out to new fans. "Synthpop Club Anthems 3" continues to extend that reach. Old fans will love it, and new listeners will pay attention!

    Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Better Than Volume 1.......2005-02-20

When Volume 1 of this series was originally released I pick it up. Back then it had a different cover. I'm a child of the 80s so remixes are something I like. I was largely disappointed. I had heard that this volume would be worth picking up (in other words: better than the first one) and they were right.

Where the first volume really was specifically synthpop that might be played at a synthpop or 80s retro flavored club many of the tracks on this volume could be played in any mainstream club and be enjoyed. They are focused on the beats and rhythm: the stuff that makes you want to get up and dance (or go running or whatever you feel like doing whenever you feel that extra energy from the music).

The disc starts off very well with a new track from Real Life (an 80s favorite back with an updated sound for the new millennium) that is just as good as the album track but with more of a club flavor. It's a nice way to start off the CD but my favorite track is track number two. Syrian's "Space Overdrive" is a new favorite. It has a hint of the true synthpop/80s bent but definitely geared up for the club.

The album stays strong from there (other favorites are from T.O.Y and Daybehavior) with the exception of the Alien#Six13 track which sounded a bit flat to me. The final track from Intuition is good but not as good as the original, in my opinion.

Despite a little falter towards the end this album is definitely worth picking up.

5 out of 5 stars Superb Dance Mix Compilation.......2005-01-26

A Different Drum is a great Record Label, which doesn't just sign Acts because they are commercial. They sign great musicians and try to provide it for everyone who wants to listen. One of the things they do regularly release compilations which have different themes, this being the latest (Volume 3) of the Club Anthems. You will love this if you like to boogey at the Club (particularly Trance), or if you like the extended remixes of some of the great bands of the 80's. Or if you just like to bound around your living room while singing along to catchy songs.

    1) Real Life - Oblivion (Nevarakka Mix) - Back to the 80's. Real Life were famous for the superb Send Me an Angel. They are still going strong, and here is a remix from their latest CD. The style is definitely 80's but more mature.

    2) Syrian - Space Overdrive (Extended) - Great Synths and thumping beats. Vocals have plenty of echo to create a very trancey feel. The chorus is great and will have you singing along waving your hands in the air (or is that just me).

    3) Daybehaviour - Close Your Eyes (Activated Mix) - Great female vocals, and progressive synths. Definitely Trance orientated beat, again with a superb chorus. Lots of variety in the synths with a good melody.

    4) Neuropa - Every Second (Extended Mix) - this is great. I have bought all of Neuropas CDs based on this song and the free downloads here at Amazon. Neuropa deserve to be big, as their songs are very catchy, and well produced. Great melody and vocals. Check out their album Born, which is my favourite CD of 2004.

    5) Cosmicity - Abort (DJ RAM Mix) - Cosmicity are great, but alas no more. The vision of Mark Nicholas, who has reinvented himself and dropped the name Cosmicity. Abort is probably one of my least favourite songs by Cosmicity, but DJ Ram does an excellent dance remix. There is plenty of bass and a variety of great synth sounds throughout.

    6) T.O.Y - Another Lovesong (Trance Mix by Massiv in Mensch) - This song is superb. As the remix says it is a Trance mix, but the original song is quite trancey anyway. This song has a very catchy tune and chorus. The vocals and the lyrics, along with the catchy tune are what makes this song stand out. This is my favourite song by T.O.Y, and this is also my favourite mix. A thumping beat with great melodic synths, and soaring vocals singing lines like : The Moon is my Galactic Spy.

    7) The Dignity of Labour - XRV (Nevarakka Mix) - Great 80's style vocals (reminiscent of Real Life). Nevarakka again with a great soaring Club remix.

    8) Droom - Stay (Delobbo Mix) - Slightly different in that this remix starts off simple and then gradually builds up. This song would not be out of place in any Club. The vocals are great, very different, again with an 80's feel. The remix is great, very up to date.

    9) De/Vision - Digital Dream (Analogue at 46hz by Icon of Coil) - Another great remix. Feels slightly different to the original version, because this definitely feels like an Icon of Coil mix. The vocals are very simple but great (De/Vision a great band that have been around for a few years often compared to Depeche Mode).

    10) Neuroactive - New Sensation - No remix needed here, as Neuroactive produce very dancey songs anyway. Great thumping beat, with minimal synth effect vocals.

    11) AlienSix13 - Highway to the Sun - Again no remix, plenty of BPM. Almost an instumental as just occasional vocals. In the middle and at then end the song breaks down, and this is my favourite part. Piano style synths play out a great melody, and then the beat kicks back in. Plenty of variety in the song.

    12) Intuition - Staring Off at Nothing (Beatfreq Mix) - I like Intuition, they have produced some great songs, and I have bought their previous CDs. This song is from their forthcoming CD, but quite dissapointing. Check out the free downloads here at Amazon, and see what you think of their previous material. The remix is very simple. The chorus shows what Intuition are capable of, but unfortunately it is not long enough, and the rest of the song just washes over you. Nice and pleasant, but nothing special.

Conclusion: Another superb collection from a Different Drum. Not just thrown together, but every song has been cherry picked to make up this CD. Buy this, and you are sure to want to by most of the artists individual CDs.

5 out of 5 stars Best Alternative-Electronic Compilation CD from 2004!.......2005-01-25

Whether you are looking for the new sounds of the future or expanding on the sounds of the '80s, Synthpop Club Anthems 3 is an excellent choice. One of my most listened to CDs from 2004 includes some great songs which mix 80s synthpop with newer forms of electronic dance music! Daybehavior's "Close Your Eyes" soon became one of my favourites as it is a great mix of synthpop with trance and very, very sensual female vocals (fans of Kylie Minogue's Fever or Lightyears albums would definitely enjoy this). Neuroactive's "New Sensation" will appeal to fans of Cabaret Voltaire with its edgy-electronic sound. (Can't wait for the new CD N-Gin to be released!) Neuropa's "Every Second" amazes you with a great melody and vocals a la Erasure or the Pet Shop Boys. Italian band Syrian has yet another amazing single with the catchy, fun and oh so addictive "Space Overdrive" - one of the best tracks on the CD. All the other tracks are excellent as well and will appeal to any '80s fanatic into New Order, Visage, Thompson Twins as well as individuals into Hi NRG, trance and techno. Oh! did I mention the excellent single "Oblivion" by Real Life.. famous for their classic song "Send Me An Angel" is include in a great extended remix! Enjoy!

5 out of 5 stars Too good for words.......2005-01-24

With Synthpop heavy hitters such as Real Life, Syrian, and Droom, this is a must have CD - it's that simple. A Different Drum does it again!!

4 out of 5 stars An impressive Synthpop delight.......2005-01-23

I cannot say enough great things about the record label( "A Different Drum" ) that makes these samplers, as well as many of the artists on them, available to the general public.

This isn't your average cookie cutter slapped together compialation. This is a very well crafted collection of rare remix editions of great songs from some of the premier artists of the genre. And when I say this I don't mean a few great songs and a bunch of filler. All the artists featured on this CD definitely deserve to be here.

Although I am fairly literate in the world of synthpop and had at least heard of most of the featured bands on here, I was fairly surprised at the quality of the songs and how great they all are. The title is self explanatory: Dancable, club friendly beats in the classic synthpop tradition of combining catchy beats and well written melodic songs together. Synthpop is more than just dance music; you don't have to be in a club to want to hear it because the songs themself are very catchy and addictive.
The synthpop featured here in my opinion is in the tradition of New Order and Depeche Mode, dark and mysterious.

Definitely worth the money. I've already made the discovery that Neuropa and Syrian are bands that I should not have overlooked, and wont anymore, and also that I really need to purchase some of those Cosmicity items on my wish list. It doesn't matter how much you know or don't know about synthpop, this is a quality collection that will definitely help you discover some great bands, which is what A Different Drum had in mind all along. It has certainly helped me =)

    3 out of 5 stars Not Oakie's best........2006-03-23

I just bought this and maybe I'll get used to it, but the Oakenfold disc, although it has high points has too much music using the same note. (not key - note) It has one really bad transition toward the middle of the set. "Yuck, what was that?"
I own 6 or 7 Oakenfold albums (Tranceport, Voyage into.., (but not "Resident") and I still think "Another World" is his magnum opus.
The Nick Warren disc has some good stuff. It's fun to listen to and has some trancey selections, too.

    2 out of 5 stars oakie's worst.......2005-12-16

i just got this cd, popped it in the cd player expecting to here some good stuff like, tranceport, voyage into trance, and flouro. what i found was the same stuff over and over through out the whole cd. it was the worst investment in a Paul Oakenfold cd i have ever made, dont let the other reviews fool you. it is pure crap.

5 out of 5 stars A must for any fan........2003-03-15

I recently purchsed this cd after owning quite a few cds of Oakenfold, and this is definitely a MUST have for a fan. At first I was feeling a bit weird about the songs in this cd, but after listening more than once, I knew I would be hooked on it. Maybe it was because these were older tracks recorded a few years ago.
The cd will keep you moving with a beat. The songs, besides being good, are just beautiful....not just good, but beautiful. They each have their own spirit.

5 out of 5 stars cream at its best.......2002-10-03

this cd is 1 of the best in the world produced in 97 when oakenfold and warren where producing some of their special sets in cream and all around the world. its a must have.

5 out of 5 stars Best Trance CD Ever.......2002-09-13

Although Sasha & Digweed are my favorite DJ's of the genre, I still have not heard a CD (well, possibly Sasha's GU Ibiza disc) that can compete with the shear mastery of CA 97. The Oakenfold disc (CD2) is the first full trance CD I've ever heard and to this day is by far the best. I was not too impressed by Nick Warren's work on the album (although his Global Underground: Brazil CD's are exceptional), but Oakie's more than makes up for it. This fully displays his potential as a superior DJ and I'm glad to see the track listing has finally been updated on this site.

    4 out of 5 stars Pleasing.......2001-08-16

The cd starts feverishly into beautiful fast sound scapes that whisk you away. It quickly, however, moves into overplayed, luster lacking tracks that lose originality, towards the end it picks back up, bringing back the fantasy world it started creating, and injects beatiful movements with the club heavy songs like game master, that still cause you to uncontrollably move your bodie.

    5 out of 5 stars A rhythmic blast of non-stop trance..........2000-12-21

Usually i pick up an album, hoping to find 3-4 songs that i enjoy and can really get into. What a suprise it was to get this album in the mail, toss it into my deck and be absolutely blown away from the get-go. Track one eases in, almost in a tinny, old late 80's to early 90's sounding techno (which was a little disturbing at first), but blasts off about 60 seconds in. From that point on, it's one melodic track after another. The CD never slows down for a breather, no "lousy in the middle" tracks. #'s 1-10 are incredible, 11-14 are still better than most, but they are a step down from the first 10. If you're thinking of picking this one up, i'd highly recommend it! You won't waste your money!

    5 out of 5 stars Great CD for ravers. . . . ........2000-09-30

This is a great CD for the ravers! The cut "Ayla" is one of the best club songs I've listened to yet. Its a nice get-a-way from over-powering vocal tracks out there. Listen to this to get you ready for a night of clubbing or have youself a private party. All you'll need is a great sound system. To the producer - Ford "you are the bomb" of trance.

    2 out of 5 stars Disappointing.......2007-03-31

Being a Dance Anthems fan and regular listening to the show on BBC's Radio 1, I had high expectations for this 3CD set. Sadly, the majority of the tunes were generic, plain, and uninspiring. 90% of the CD set is just plain. Dave finally turns up the volume around the last 5 songs on the 3rd CD.

For those who haven't heard Dave's show on BBC Radio1, the CD set might be ok. Those who have heard his radio show will be disappointed.

4 out of 5 stars Good list to know, not to learn from.......2005-08-25

This CD is a great introduction to progressive anthems, without the "progressive" builds that are so characteristic of this style (NOTE: style, not subgenre). Of course, as with any CD that attempts to catalogue the "best" or the "anthems," there are people who will argue that certain tracks aren't included. This CD is a fairly decent attempt, judging from my 200+ CD collection of electronic music from the past 4 years. CD1 is definitely the progressive house style, while CD2 leans more towards progressive trance. If you're looking to familiarize yourself with the progressive music movement in 2001, this is the CD to get, and most of them pretty nice tracks. However, if you're looking for a DJ mix to study the art of transitions/seguing, this is not something to learn from, as all the transitions are fairly mediocre, and they don't allow time for the songs to develop, due to squeezing 19 or 20 tracks on 1 CD...

Great for the car, a party, or just a good piece of progressive style history.
