Syrupy pleasures.......2004-04-30

Close your eyes and dream if you will every pop hit that you've fallen in love with over the last 10 years combined with every remix trick and special effect conceivable to create an album of so many syrupy pleasures that the carbs-from-sugar content of the disc itself would make any Atkins devotee scream in terror . Almighty had this dream a while ago apparently and like a dream deferred it has crusted and sugared over, but into the shape of a 2-disc set with a naked man and his dog on the cover. It's the kind of CD that you look at that back of and belt out, "Oh no, they didn't!" But while you listen to it, no matter how you fight it, your hips start moving while you look around nervously to see if anyone within earshot is looking at you with a raised eyebrow. Fight the gag reflex and just listen to it, it's actually really freaking catchy. And what makes this set even more impressive is that most of these were actually rock songs originally, and were successfully trance-formed into NRG floor-fillers. And Almighty even decided to look after the DJs by including unmixed versions on the 1st CD of the majority of the tracks contained in the mixed 2nd CD. So you have one disc for the gym and another for the club. What could be better? And the answer to that question is: the dog from the cover.
