Would surely recommend it ...
Another album you can pick confidently.......2007-01-25
Well, I can say this album is really, really good. Along with Matt Nathanson and Amos Lee, those cds can play in my cd player forever on repeat and after a few hours I just start thinking "hey it's still the same cd in".
Yes it's that good and smooth. No track where you want to skip to the next, they're all good.
(yes I used the same review for Matt since both are in the same genre and as good)
A real gem.......2006-11-07
He is awesome.
He has his own style and plays for the music. His lyrics are powerful and moving... I got goosebumps on more than one occassion.
Buy it, listen to it, you'll love it.
Great CD, but kind of an acquired taste...........2006-04-20
Give it a listen (or two, maybe three) before you judge it.

One of the Best Collections of English Madrigals.......2002-03-27
This album offers a veritable feast of the choicest English madrigals found on any comparable album. From the obligatory "Now is the Month of Maying" and "Fair Phyllis" to the more obscure "Tan ta ra, cries Mars," there is certainly enough on this album to bring a smile to lovers of Renaissance music - and a spark of recognition to anyone who sang traditional madrigals in high school or university. For serious students of early music, this album comes very highly recommended.
Among the more sonorous offerings on this album, Jones' "Farewell, Dear Love" and Dowland's "Come Again," cannot be ignored. Nor can Bennet's immortal "Weep O mine eyes" be matched more musically than here by the King's Singers.
This album has been played again and again for almost 6 years as both serious listening and background working music. And it has yet to lose its delight.

The term Irish tenor may be fraught with as many wrong-headed, anachronistic characterizations as any phrase in music. But Ronan Tynan not only returns here to the PBS airwaves that helped spread his fame as a member of the Irish Tenors trio, but he overturns a few clichés while delivering a live concert (recorded at the Royal Dublin Society in June 2002) that encompasses everything from Broadway and pop chestnuts to Italian operatic repertoire. Tynan rewards Irish traditions old and new (a medley of Brian Kennedy's and U2's "Life, Love & Happiness"/"I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For") and even makes left turns into folkie songstress territory (Joni Mitchell's "Both Sides Now," Sarah McLachlan's "Angel"). Backed by RTE Orchestra, the unlikely international star invests himself completely in all of it, his strong, crystalline voice playing off the traditions, while forging strong new bonds with the contemporary. --Jerry McCulleyCustomer Reviews:

For right-minded buyers of the reissued Muppet Christmas Carol soundtrack, the odds of disappointment are about as remote as Miss Piggy's chances with Kermit. If you loved the movie, you will love the loopy mayhem of the Muppet Brass Buskers ("Good King Wenceslas"), the cartoonish malice of the black-hearted misanthropes Marley & Marley ("Marley & Marley"), and the hope-swollen harmonies of Tiny Tim and Family ("Bless Us All"), Muppeted here to hilariously humble effect. If, on the other hand, your interest in this disc has more to do with its inclusion in the way-narrow Christmas-record-for-kids category--if the spirit of the season doesn't extend, for you, to the magic of the Muppets--you may want to keep browsing, as it's a soundtrack first (overture, instrumentals, and all) and a Christmas CD second. That's not to suggest you're stuck with an un-fun disc should it land on your holiday stack without a prior screening, though. Miles Goodman's score sweeps and inspires, and certain tracks--"One More Sleep 'til Christmas" and "Fozziwig's Party"--are future classics. (Note to the right-minded: After a misstep on the original release, Martina McBride's version of "When Love is Gone" is back.) -Tammy La GorceCustomer Reviews:

The celebratory spirit behind tribute albums doesn't suit every subject. More than a single swaggering rock star has come off as limp and self-loving, and thoughtful chanteuses have gone sappy or sour--which is why saluting the California garage punks of Sublime makes a lot of sense. For one thing, it's nearly impossible to screw up the collapsed band's sunny, to-hell-with-it vibe--its music is a mood encapsulated--and for another, any artist cool enough to take on one of its songs knows instinctively to embrace the ska sensibility and not skimp on energy. What we get with Look at All the Love, is a party with all the right props. No Doubt was an obvious choice and, on the disc's only live track, "DJ's," Gwen Stefani turns in a mid-speed sway-and-bobber; Jack Johnson chills on "Badfish/Boss DJ"; G. Love goes for funk-rock broke with "Greatest Hits"; and the artful Greyboy Allstars send "Doin Time" to jazz school. A single caveat: Hipsters who followed Sublime in its mid-90s heyday and have since had kids should order tiny earplugs with their copies. Fishbone does an admirable job with "Date Rape," but it's still as profane as ever. --Tammy La GorceAlbum Description
"An impressively diverse cast of musicians from a wide range of genres [show] just how much Sublime's music transcends classification ... nothing short of stellar." - ALL MUSIC GUIDE"Deliciously eclectic." - CMJ
"A tribute to Sublime as big as Bradley Nowell's heart and as expansive as the band's musical vision." - OC WEEKLY
The evening of October 24, 2005 was one very special night in music. The Music Box at Fonda Theater played host to Look at All the Love We Found: A Tribute to Sublime LIVE, a benefit concert to honor and celebrate the legacy of one of most influential bands of the nineties as well as to raise funds for those in need. Artists like Los Lobos, Unwritten Law, Ozomatli, Blackalicious, Fishbone, and The Ziggens came together for one night only to put on a show for the ages. And, to top it off, many of the artists from the evening (as well as some surprise special guests) teamed up to belt out Sublime classics in the ultimate jam session. Now, everyone can relive that magical night with this special CD+DVD combo!
The audio CD contains never-before-heard covers of Sublime hits and fan favorites, from a brand-new studio recording of "Ebin" by The Banned with Chuck D (Public Enemy) to a rockin' live version of Fishbone's "Date Rape." These incredible tracks were not featured on the Look at All the Love We Found CD, and can only be found here!
The DVD features include a performance of "Pawn Shop" with original Sublime member Bud Gaugh on drums, a music video for Fishbone's version of "Date Rape," and backstage interviews with Los Lobos, MURS, Unwritten Law, and more. It also includes an in-depth photo slideshow and a behind-the-scenes look at the all-star jam rehearsal that included Stephen Perkins (Jane's Addiction), Ikey Owens (The Mars Volta), Eric Wilson (Sublime), and many more.

Decidedly Good.......2005-10-21
The only reason that it's not a 5 is because of the track by No Doubt. Jesus christ I got about 5 seconds into it before I skipped to the next track. What where they thinking?
an albom for the true sublime fans.......2005-10-12
to the fans: this is basically an album of interpretations. each artist shows the listener why sublime is cool to them. it is fun to hear the individual spins each band puts on classic sublime joints. i loved pennywise doing "same in the end". also Los Lobos comes hard on "Pawn Shop".G-Love has a very cool take on one of the most underrated sublime songs "greatest hits". jack johnson comes with a typical jack johnson output, which isnt anything bad.the best is the Ziggens cover of "Paddle Out". the ziggens and sublime; 'nuf said.
overall this album isnt for people who want to hear a sublime cd. those people should all go buy "40 oz." and go kill themselves. its for those who want to hear others tell why they love sublime in song, and pay their respects to the masters of eclectic urban music.im sure bradley is smiling down on those who do.

With one CD of prime Smokey and the Miracles rarities already available, how much could this entry in Motown's Lost and Found vault-sweep series really offer? Plenty, as it turns out. While a couple of tracks ("You've Got to Pay Bills," "(I Need Some) Money," the latter a different song than the Barrett Strong-Beatles standard) seem like dry runs at ideas better realized by others at the label, Along Came Love brings some true pleasures to light. A particular standout is the sweet, early "I Love Your Baby," and after a couple of plays, even their version of "If I Were a Bell" transcends typical Motown supper-club fare and becomes charming. More than just a lesson in secret history, this is actually a fine addition to the collections of fans of the group and the label. --Rickey WrightCustomer Reviews:
Recovered from the vaults.......2007-06-25
Thankfully, a great deal of this material has subsequently been made available. There have been artists' retrospectives and anthologies with previously unreleased tracks, collections of newly recovered masters such as A Cellarful Of Motown, and collected unreleased masters by specific artists such as this first rate Lost And Found series. This has so far included Marvin Gaye, the Four Tops, the Temptations and the Miracles on the Motown label.
The Miracles' Along Came Love features recordings from 1957 to 1964 and unusually includes seven tracks that did come out, but which had been long unavailable, all but one drawn from the 1965 US double-album The Miracles Greatest Hits From The Beginning. Some of these have since reappeared on The Complete Motown Singles, Vol. 1: 1959-1961 box set and later Volumes.
The Miracles' association with Motown boss Berry Gordy predates Motown itself, having begun when they were still a doo-wop outfit recently known as the Matadors. Later Smokey was to become Berry Gordy's vice president and right-hand man at Motown: chef, main writer, producer and lead singer in the Miracles, but he began writing songs with Berry Gordy (who had already written songs for Jackie Wilson, Bobby Parker and others) almost as soon as they met in 1957.
Berry Gordy was involved in co-writing and/or producing all the early Miracles' singles, which were recorded, before the Hitsville Studio was established, in hired studios such as United Sound in Detroit and Olmstead Sound in New York, and released on small labels like Fury and End. Three of these raw sounding B-sides (but not their A-sides) are included here - My Mama Done Told Me; (I Need Some) Money and I Love Your Baby - plus an A-side that was licensed to Chess in late 1959, because of its better distribution channels, I Need A Change.
Another early Tamla B-side, issued as by Ron and Bill (Ronnie White and Bill "Smokey" Robinson), was modelled on the Everly Brothers in the hope of a hit. Don't Say Bye-Bye was not taken from Greatest Hits From The Beginning, but was the B-side of It in 1959.
The other two tracks from the compilation From The Beginning were the 1964 non-album B-side Would I Love You (also on Early Classics), a luscious ballad with sweeping strings, recorded in Chicago, and the atmospheric non-album single I Like It Like That, the only stereo recording on this CD. This stereo mix made its debut on From The Beginning and had a different lead vocal to the one on the single, as most easily identified by a falsetto "please" twenty-five seconds into the stereo mix. Newer longer stereo mixes of both these tracks can be found on Ooo Baby Baby: The Anthology.
That leaves the previously unreleased material, beginning with the confidently soulful I Think We Can Make It. It seems unlikely that something this strong would be shelved, but it was recorded the very same day as You've Really Got A Hold On Me, and even that was only thought worthy of a B-side release. The title track Along Came Love is a ballad that shows their doo-wop roots, and was probably considered for Cookin' With The Miracles. Marv Johnson's Come To Me was the first release on Tamla, recorded in December 1958, and the Miracles' more upbeat reworking comes from December 1959, during their Chess period. You've Got To Pay Bills, a song about placating the landlady, and Don't Think It's Me, were both recorded on 11 June 1964, but Smokey returned to Don't Think It's Me for a bigger production on the Make It Happen album in 1967 (Make It Happen/Special Occasion), when Earl Van Dyke's tentative organ fills were replaced by full on strings.
If I Were A Bell (from Guys And Dolls), with second lead vocals from Claudette Rogers Robinson, and Easy Street, which has impressive Four Freshmen-style harmonies, were planned for an abandoned album of standards to be called The Miracles Sing Modern in 1962. It shows their versatility but isn't what I listen to the Miracles for. (Talkin' Bout) Nobody But My Baby definitely is though. It uses the same backing track prepared by Norman Whitfield for the Temptations, who added vocals on the same day as the Miracles, but it was the Temptations' version that was chosen over a year later in 1964 and came out on the back of My Girl (ironically a song that Smokey had written, about his wife Claudette), while Smokey's gospelly lead was consigned to history. Claudette gets a rare lead vocal on the excellent Mr Misery from 1962, the same year as Yes, No, Maybe So, which is a cover of Barrett Strong's 1960 single, written by Smokey and Berry.
I Need Somebody is a James Brownish blues, another recorded in Chicago for the strings, probably arranged by Riley Hampton; and Please Say You Love Me is a Smokey Robinson/Janie Bradford song, a begging soul-blues production, with what sounds like Earl Van Dyke on organ and Marv Tarplin guitar, but no details as to date, line-up or producer are given.
The album closes appropriately, as it was Motown's first million seller, with a live recording of Shop Around, backed by Richard "Popcorn" Wylie's band, from a road show appearance in Cincinatti a few months after the single came out. It was the climax of the show and the Miracles were joined onstage by a chorus including Mary Wells and Singin' Sammy Ward, the Contours and Chuck Jackson, with Smokey's voice all but shot by the end of a fervent performance.
Nothing here deserved to be abandoned and forgotten and Motown are to be applauded for bringing them back into circulation for our appraisal and enjoyment.

On Love, Lost & Found, alto saxophonist Frank Morgan creates a breathy, intimate tone so calm and fluid it seems to be musical breathing. The result is an ultraromantic album that reinforces Morgan's status as one of the great balladeers of jazz history. The 11 pieces are all vintage standards by the likes of Harold Arlen, Cole Porter, and Vernon Duke, but Morgan makes them extremely personal by turning the melodies into saxophone sighs that seem to confess everything. When he turns a melodic phrase from Hoagy Carmichael's "The Nearness of You" into an extended, legato exhalation, you can hear the ache of a man made dizzy by the proximity of his lover. By contrast, on Antonio Carlos Jobim's "Once I Loved," Morgan's limpid saxophone solos are imbued with the deep melancholy of a man who can still imagine that nearness but realizes it will never return. It's possible there's a better possible rhythm section for such a romantic album than pianist Cedar Walton, bassist Ray Brown, and drummer Billy Higgins, but it's unlikely. --Geoffrey Himes
