Trust me, they sing better in French than they do in English...listen to the song "Vive Le Rappinghood" (a B-Side from one of their singles) & you'll know that perhaps English should not be the universal language.

'Attaque populaire' is already surpassed by VLF's 2003-album 'Nuit blanche'. Its music being more refined, I leave it to other reviews to dig into their style. See elsewhere on this page.

Making their impact all over Western Europe, VLF's looks surely are worth a note. Long, blond female lead singer Els Peynoo backed by four guys having their eyes covered with a painted black mask. Like Zorro. However, to compare them with American Blondie would be an injustice to their o-o-o-original French-Belgian style.

Last time I saw them perform, was in June04. By then they had rocked up their music from the catwalk-style they got famous with -- equalling the visuals from their stage-show.

Oh yes, and for those who aren't familiar with French: 'Vive la Fête' means 'Long live the party'. And 'Nuit blanche' is 'white night'. White night being a French expression for a rough, all-night party.

Vive le Cool!.......2002-05-23

Karl Lagerfeld had Vive la Fete play at his presentation of the Fall 2002 Chanel collection in Paris. Quite the fashion imprimateur for this little pop band. But they deserve the spotlight. Their mix of Gainsbourg-esque French and 80's new wave synth pop is super cool. If you like Air, Blondie, Human League or the Cars, chances are you will dig this. Just listen with tons of attitude. P.S. They made their US debut in Las Vegas recently, reprising their Chanel performance at a fashion show for Neiman Marcus.

Vive la fête is a Belgian band (Danny Mommens=bassist of dEUS, a fabulous rockband + Els Pynoo=Dannys girlfriend). They make funny pop songs with a beat. In french. With new-wave influences. pretty good cd!
