5 out of 5 stars Rings of Steel, an Industrial/Metal/Electronic house of power.......2006-11-08

Die Krupps, like the Tucker car, were ahead of their time. The end result is about the same, in the fact most people who enjoy the commercial dynasties of Rammstein, KMFDM or Nine Inch Nails have scarcely heard of this band. Die Krupps was founded in Germany in 1980, but by the mid nineties their innovative mix of electronic beats, metal harmonies and industrial vision seemed to lost steam.

DK has a great way of balancing on the edge in terms of musical vision. They don't get so Industrial that you think they are tool, but don't over saturate you with heavy, often times repetitive riffs like Rammstein. They some great synthesizer sounds on here that are deep and haunting, while their lyrical approach with the vocal efforts seems more like a blue collar statement instead of a gothic cartoon character.

Rings of Steel is a record that originally, at first listen almost seemed to have just a couple of catchy, driving metal songs on it with the rest falling into the background. As you listen to this CD more it is very apparent that each song has something to offer, making the record as a whole, an excellent listen. The album starts off with a spooky sounding track called "Bloodsuckers" that is full of awesome metal riffs and various quips from old movie quotes. Track three is no different in power or prestige, and is more focused on the vocals than technical beats. The various rhythms and tones layered in throughout make it a timeless classic. Track six is another one of my favorites in "Worst Case Scenario" and has a dub/mix of hip hop chanting in the beginning of it. This only adds to the innovative vision of this album as the track builds up to an explosive, rock anthem assault from its original track which is number fifteen. The track "Paradise of Sin" seems to be a half done rendition of Iron Butterfly's classic "In-a-godda-da-vida" and is not absent of anything strong in the structure or sound that makes Die Krupp's music something to play for almost any occasion. Track eight is "Iron Man" and no, is not a cover of the famous Black Sabbath song. In its own right, the song is well written and although somewhat simplistic, the percussion parts as well as the overall chorus of the song are driving and catchy. There sections of the backing vocalist coming in and adding words at the end of the main chorus line like "Transgression" and "Resurrection" that add a lot of flavor to the song. The song "Metal Machine Music" is much more on the techno side, but I convey that in a very dark, metal way! This song goes 100mph without falling apart in mumbled vocals and fuzzy guitars (like some songs of this nature tend to do).

Track 16 is another gem on the album as it's got some haunting synth in the background that does not take away from the continuous, rolling beat that carries throughout the tune. One I never get tired of listening to. Overall, I think this is a great album albeit a collaboration of sorts with a couple of remixed songs on it. Die Krupps is a band I just recently discovered but if anything they have in their discography is even half as good as "Rings of Steel" then I don't think I will be disappointed. If you like music like NIN, KMFDM, or Rammstein, give these guys a listen.

5 out of 5 stars Good hard rockin CD.......2002-01-20

If you like Ramstein or Nitzerebb you will surely like this one. Hard rockin industrial stuff with some electronic sounds that combine to make some great tunes. While many groups throw in a slow easy song or two this group keeps hammering at you. And they sing in English too. Great hardcore music that won't disapoint anyone.

5 out of 5 stars THE BEST!!!.......2000-09-10

Ok. This album is one of the best in my collection. It stands out. Not only are the vocals awsome but so are the lyrics and guitars. These people started Industrial and dont have too much credit for it (seeing that i can find no tabs or lyrics for this album). they deserve alot more.

4 out of 5 stars Gripping Metal-Industrial.......2000-03-01

Industrial has of late (Die Krupps included) drifted far into the realm of metal--there's nothing wrong with that! This cd proves it. Rings of Steel is a collection of remixed songs--Language of Reality being the best. Pay no attention to the criticism about the lyrics...they are better than average (Language of Reality also has very clever, thoughfut lyrics). This disc is reccomended if you like KMFDM, NIN-Broken, Ministry, etc.

3 out of 5 stars Excellent music, pitiful vocals and lyrics........1999-09-07

I would have liked to give this CD a better rating, but the embarrassingly bad singing and lyrics really destroyed alot of the album's potential. I wish that german industrial bands would sing most of their songs in german, because it is such a powerful and heavy language which complements the genre perfectly. On the other hand, the music on this CD is unquestionably some of the best industrial I've ever heard. In fact, I liked the music on this album so much that I copied all the CD tracks to my computer and remixed them to get rid of the intolerable vocals.

4 out of 5 stars The Fantasy Album.......2007-05-09

You can't have too many Sci-Fi albums. This is a good addition to anyone's collection. A good crosssection of SF music. It even has music from The Thief of Bagdad from the 30s(?)

5 out of 5 stars nice release from Silva.......2005-08-15

As with most of the recent Silva America releases, Silva Screen has compiled older recordings from previous CDs and added some new material exclusively for this release. In this case, Silva has recorded music from The first Harry Potter and Lord of The Rings films, both Mummy films and Gladiator. I'm not sure what else is new, but combine these excellent tracks with golden age material from Hermann and Rozsa, and some Elfman (Batman, Edward Scissorhands) and Williams (Raiders of the Lost Ark, Witches of Eastwick) for good measure, you have a heckuva compilation.

The performance is first rate with only the Raiders March being a subpar track.

5 out of 5 stars Outstanding Fantasy Scores from Hit Fantasy Movies.......2003-04-05

If you're looking for some fantasy role-playing game backround music to play or just like mostly classical fantasy-esque music, this double CD contains excellent scores wrapped in whopping total of 140+ minutes worth of music.

Classic music from your favorite hit fantasy and action movies are found all over this huge, quality collection. You'll hear suites and sounds from outstanding films like Lord of the Rings, Gladiator, Willow, The Mummy, Harry Potter, Excalibur, Conan, Highlander, Batman, Edward Scissorhands and more.

A recent (2002) and impressive collection of musical scores, and by far the best CDs I've personally bought for fantasy themed music.

5 out of 5 stars "successful formula from Silva spells Classic all the way".......2002-09-24

History repeats itself with this latest compilation from Silva Screen "Fantasy Album:Adventure & Fantasy at the Movies", a heap of music to digest within the twenty-eight tracks. All beautifully arranged and conducted by Paul Bateman and Nic Raine with the City Of Prague Orchestra in full force...with the helping hand of David Temple (choir master) of the Crouch End Festival Chorus. A perfect blend from brew master James Fitzpatrick(producer) who has impeccable foresight and taste in film music.

What I most enjoy about Silva, is the fact they always have the lesser recorded selections within the big picture...take for instance "THE SEVENTH VOYAGE OF SINBAD"(1958), "THE THREE WORLDS OF GULLIVER" (1960), "MYSTERIOUS ISLAND" (1961) and "JASON AND THE ARGONAUTS" (1963), all four composed by Bernard Herrmann who is in a class by himself, they'll never be another.

But for my money the highlight picks are "GLADITOR"(2000), Hans Zimmer's recreation of the spectacle that was Romes, with man against man, man against beast and the armies that clashed and fell under the powerful story that unfolds within this suite from the film ~ "BEETLEJUICE", "EDWARD SCISSORHANDS" and "BATMAN", each from the films of Tim Burton still ring true within the realm of great direction and storytelling, this can only be topped by composer Danny Elfman who adds the frosting to an appetizing treat ~ "LEGEND" (1985), can faeries, goblins, woodland spirits mix well with the Lord of Darkness...only the legendary Jerry Goldsmith can conjure up a tune to drive the entire cast into a frenzy with "FARIE DANCE/REUNITED", this is the stuff nightmares are made of with a happy ending of course.

With composers like Tan Dun, Randy Edelman, Danny Elfman, Jerry Goldsmith, Bernard Herrmann, James Horner, Maurice Jarre, Michael Kamen, Brian May, Jerome Moross, Carl Orff, Basil Poledouris, Miklos Rozsa, Howard Shore, Alan Silvestri, John Williams and Hans Zimmer...one can only hope this will last forever. Silva, I don't know how you do it, but keep them coming...gotta love it!
