Customer Reviews:
Whew!.......2007-03-08
Right. I bought this after watching Dig! - mainly because the music sounded wicked-cool and the visuals rocked. Impulse purchase, I guess.
For the most part Tepid Peppermint Wonderland is great, the only problem is that there's so much material on the two dics! There's simply no way to listen to this record and go - 'Wow! I'm totally hooked!' and leave it sitting in your CD player for three weeks - just too much going on, I'm afraid. So for now I'm patienly getting to know (and love) this record little by little. Just don't buy this thinking that it's going to instantly make BJM the greatest thing you've ever heard. It takes a bit of time, but it is well worth the effort.
good mix of everything.......2007-02-01
This is a nice, all-encompassing collection of BJM. It includes songs from all the categories of their music, which is more good than bad. BJM has stuff that really lives up to the band's classification as a neo-psychedelic role-model, but also a lot of stuff that would be better described as a predecessor to current trends in contemporary indie rock. That is to say, the latter is more "hard", with chords dominating, rather than any 1960's-style lead electric guitar melody. You will notice that BJM's albums tend to stick closely to one style, and then make the next album, perhaps, completely differently; but since this is a compilation, you will not find this to be the case here.
Overall, it's a pretty good introduction to The Brian Jonestown Massacre, although it does have some faults. The organization of the songs could have been better, considering they had two whole CD's to mess with (i.e., could have lined up the songs more "logically"). However, you WILL find any super-great song that you might have heard (from which you presumably decided to research BJM because you liked the style) on the album.
Anything but Tepid!!!.......2007-01-19
I have loved The Brian Jonestown Masscre ever since I first saw them play in SF back in the early 90s. This retrospective is an excellent collection of their work dating from the conception of the band in the 90s up until today. Its a collection that can be appreciated by old fans as well as those who are new to the band. As for the music, well its indescribeable. You have to hear to to believe it!
GOD ANTON!.......2006-11-19
The Brian Jonestown Massacre are the best band you've never heard of. I've always liked them from the beginning and have talked to Anton Newcombe after several shows. He is just the most ordinary, coolest guy ever, except don't mess with him because he don't take lip. He's also got a very sensitive side also and just wants everyone to listen to his music and start a sort of peaceful revolution, just like in the 60's when they used to make music that was halfway as good as this. He's like ALL-IN-ONE, just like God. Everything he says is like scripture, especailly that thing about Eric clapton's baby-he sucks!!! LOL. All you people are idiots for not listening to this band becasue you're too busy listening to hip-hop crap. VIVA LA UNDERGROUND!!!
If you just got into Anton because of D!G, you're just a poseur. I heard of them like back in 2003, so there!
Hard to describe and thats how it should be.......2006-11-16
BJM really is amazing. The influences range from the obvious psychodelic 60s bands like the Animals all the way to Cure, The Kinks?, Dave Clarke 5 et al. The CD really sets a mood and if you are inclined to put your fold up chair on the apex of your roof and bring out the party favors of your choice then BJM should be exactly what you are looking for. Oh, and Open Heart Surgery is like one of the best songs I have ever heard.

Disappointing.......2007-05-26
I bought this cd strictly for the song "Will You Be Staying After Sunday". After the song ends, there is a minute of weird music that doesn't go with the tune at all and was not the version that received radio airplay. The rest of the tracks are marginal. I wanted to rip the song to make a cd of my favorite music, but the end of the track just ruins the song. Hopefully one day the original tune that received airplay will be available.
The Peppermint Rainbow = Intregrity.......2006-11-05
It's about time somebody offered this group on compact disc. Bubblegum? Yes, but the title track, "Will You Be Staying After Sunday," is a gem. In fact, the Peppermint Rainbow deliver all of these tracks without a hint of corporate manufacture. "Walking in Different Circles" is another fine track, also recorded with a soulful approach by Goldie and the Gingerbreads in 1967. Don't pass up this infectious disc.
Nice!.......2006-07-05
This is a nice CD. It never ceases to amaze me just how many great songs have been overlooked. In 1969, the Peppermint Rainbow had their hit with the tasty "Will You Be Staying After Sunday" but to me the real "find" is their first single which was completely ignored by the public: "Walking In Different Circles". They just do NOT write catchy tunes like that anymore. One of the problems this band had was the fact that they 'hit' in 1969 and not 1967. Had they arrived during the summer of love they surely would have won more hearts as they have that distinctive Mamas & Papas/Spanky & Our Gang sound. They were produced by Paul Leka of the Lemon Pipers fame and many of the tracks featured on this CD have the same feel/production as the tunes on the Pipers LP's. In fact-and I love this, the Peppermint Rainbow used the original 1967 Lemon Pipers backing track of "Green Tambourine" for their own rendition. Very interesting! If you are a collector, the mere fact that this is featured is the perfect reason to buy the CD. This album features some tight harmonies and soaring melodies. There are some hidden classics here.
great CD.......2006-01-06
this CD contains the 2 biggest hits of the peppermint rainbow. I must give all credit due, these 2 tracks are the closest I have seen many an oldies CD come to the original hits of the given group/ artist. I beleive, it sounds like the tracks are from one of the groups LPs.

Open minded.......2007-07-30
If you are you will truly come out of this with a new appreciation for this very deserving and talented artist. He does have so much soul in his singing. On any track on "How I Seem To Be" he drops the skills like its 2nd nature. I love "Open Mind" and "Just Flow" which is the song i saw on the Logo network the video and loved it. I love the cd as a whole myself. But those tracks in particular really do it for me. So if you have a chance to get this cd don't sleep or wait til later to support a truly talented artist. Its a ride you will really enjoy taking a part of, enjoy.
Not Bad!.......2007-07-29
I feel in love with Your Mine (alone is worth the purchase) and also heard Flow with my Soul. With those 2 in mind, I decided to buy it. The album keeps pretty much the same vibe and pace throughout which is a good thing (because he has a "sound") but the "sound" got pretty old in my opinion. Positives: very good voice, lot o' soul, good lyrics, good solid first (I beleive) album. Negatives: Not much variety. Overall a good buy!
leave it to logo.......2006-08-16
leave it to the logo network to get this dude some well deserved attention. he deserves a close look... "flow" is off the hook... deep in soul blended well with a soft rap beat that hits the spot. great mood music. trust me.
INCREDIBLE!.......2004-02-03
To look at his boyishly white face, you couldn't imagine the sounds that come from inside. Seeing a cute face, I decided to listen to his CD at a listening station at a music store and the sounds that came through the headphones made me think that perhaps I wasn't listening to what I thought I should be hearing. There is so much soul trapped in that little body...thank God he has an outlet from which to release it, otherwise he would explode! All songs are amazing and he is definitely worth a listen...you will not be disappointed!
This boy is good!!!.......2004-01-12
I have just listened to the CD. Adam's voice is so smooth and beautiful. I love the songs. How could people sleep on this indie artist. He's gonna be huge. Such a mature sound for such a young artist. It's like a soul revolution that i've never heard before. I LOVE IT!! check this boy out!

Album Description
FLY ME BACK is the new album from folk-rock-singer-songwriter Brenda Weiler. Musically, FLY ME BACK represents a departure from the mostly stripped-down acoustic ambiance of her previous two CDS, CRAZY HAPPY and TRICKLE DOWN. Songs like "Noella Rae" and "Breathe" feature drum loops, strings, electric piano and electric guitar while still allowing Brenda's intimate and personal vocals and acoustic guitar to shine through. Other songs, like the achingly direct "Better" and the traditional spiritual "Motherless Chile", were recorded live in the studio. Most importantly, FLY ME BACK shows the power of an artist whose autobiographical yet univeral lyrics touch the listener, and whose voice can change in a heartbeat from a powerful alto to a naked whisper. Critical acclaim for Brenda has included numerous articles, the theme of which can be summed up in this recent quote from the Minneapolis StarTribune: "Weiler's songs work because they're painstakingly real and honest." To that honesty, Brenda now adds a musical conviction that makes FLY ME BACK sure to affect each listener.
Customer Reviews:
You have to catch her LIVE :).......2001-09-17
This cd is really amazing. What's even more amazing is seeing Brenda's live performances. I've seen her play a number of times all across Wisconsin and it's always a fun time driving out to see her with friends. What you realize at her live shows is how truly powerful her voice is. She puts lots of emotion into every song and every show is unique. Every show I've seen is just Brenda and her guitar it's even better than the cds. Anyways, about the cd. It's a great one. You won't be disappointed. Happy, unplifting songs... songs you won't ever get tired of lisening to. Get this cd or Crazy Happy. If you get a chance to see her you won't be able to resist buying all of her cds. Enjoy!
gets to live on my desert island.......2001-05-26
Brenda's voice and writing, + John's production and playing are inspired on every one of these songs. Brenda's singing goes from pretty & quiet - to bare & emotional - and is purposely presented in an unadorned & close-up manner. Every arrangement uses different colors & tools - is clean & transparent - & has new "voices" adding in - always at the right time - to keep things moving & interesting. Taken to task in an earlier review here - Brenda's voice is sensitive, pretty, passionate, strong - all of these things - & always the perfect vehicle for her lyrics & melodies. When she chooses to use it that way, Brenda's pretty, lyrical voice is no less convincing, or soulful - for those still willing to accept those values. Mostly, this is a (most likely) small budget recording that has the professionalism & discipline of a big studio effort - without losing any of the inspiration & freshness in the process. The songs here have all the honesty that is present when it's just Brenda & her guitar. This is some of the best music that I've ever heard.
Nice Talent.......2001-04-23
I came to this album through Stuart Davis, another Peppermint guitarist from the midwest. This is my first BW album, which I originally explored via .mp3, before purchase. Having lived in the same geography as she, I am suprised by her width of mind in exploring many ideas openly. I would more likely have placed her into a Massachusetts-Dar Williams-Boston folkie group. But hers is more that that. Clean, peppy, well played, and insightful, I enjoy her work as much as Suzanne Vega, perhaps Ani Difranco, or Dar herself. Kudos on a fine album. Not Prokoffiev, but then, this is not what she is attempting. I enjoy it very much; many artists do things that rub me wrong somehow, but her lyrics and chord structures are unfailingly sympathatic and stimulating to my ear. I recommend her to astute listeners interested in clarifying how their world feels to them, and look forward to more of her work.
bcshost@pressenter.com.......2001-02-25
It is a shame that Brenda Weiler is a midwest secret. Her voice is compelling and addictive. "Fly Me Back" sends chills down my spine. I have been lathargic about listening to contemporary music for 5-10 years. Brenda gave me a reason to listen again. She brings forth a forceful message about many relationship and emotional dilemas. You have to have this album as part of a collection. I am a high school teacher. I played this cd one afternoon when kids were working on art projects. All my students were asking, "who is this". She captures your heart as soon as you play her music once. Daisy and Breathe are both stirring songs on the cd. You will want to sing along and relate your life to all her lyrics. I wish I could give her 6 stars for this one. AWESOME!
Sophistication Doesn't Deter from the Music.......2001-01-17
OK, so I'm a Brenda Wieler fan who's a little longer in tooth than most. I was raised on the best folk/rock of the 60's and 70's (sorry folks, but the 80's produced Ronald Reagan and not much else)and Ms. Wieler's first two CD's were bold attempts which showcased her voice and provocative guitar. "Fly Me Back" takes the solo Brenda and gives her a chance to really soar. The fact that she's backed by a solid lineup doesn't, as is sometimes the case, detract from the honesty and simplicity that served her so well in the past. The additional textures created by the band's quality play brings maturity and depth to what could have been an over-produced mistake.
All in all, a wonderful effort for the young singer-songwriter from the Plains.

Like no other - multi faceted - absorbs any attention level.......2006-10-13
To think that Peter plays "behind" Jimmy Buffett. It just goes to show that their is no equal for just being in the right place at the right time. The though of them going head to head on a equal stage ------ not a fair contest!!
Earth Town Square.......2006-06-29
Peter Mayer's beautiful words and arrangement of the hymn HYFRYDOL by Rowland Prichard was what drew me to this well-crafted CD. The other tunes only add to this very musical CD. Clear voiced, beautiful acoustic work, and lyrics that stand out make this a CD I can sit back and listen to, or many times I just grab my harmonica and play along. Mayer is a terrific musician.
Poetry never sounded better........2004-09-07
When we praise the "poetry" of songwriters, the standard is usually not very high. We can be pretty pleased when a song rises a bit above the banal. This CD is, however, musical poetry of an entirely higher sort. Peter Mayer's songwriting is a treat. Felicitous images flow in an unbroken, delightful stream.
Start with the first cut on the CD. "Ocean Mary" is a woman who lives by a magic stream. She has a dream: "She imagined that, inside, stirred all the waters of the earth. Every puddle, every creek and every one of the Seven Seas. She could feel the fishes roam in her fingers and her toes. And in her chest, the Gulf Stream flow."
That would be enough to recommend this remarkable album, but Mayer's singing is just as pleasing. He has a clear, resonant voice that reminds me of James Keelaghan. I've been so swept away by the lyrics and singing that I have paid less attention to his guitar skills, but he's good.
There's more. Mayer is a wonderful tunesmith, at least to judge by this CD. One of my favorite tunes is "Blue Boat Home," a highly singable and fetching melody that perfectly matches the elegaic sentiments of the song.
Maybe other people are luckier than I am, but I don't find albums I enjoy this much very often. Discovering Earth Town Square is perhaps the nicest thing to happen to me lately. Peter Mayer has created an album that is like a great friend. It has a lot to say and a wonderful way of saying it. You just love spending time with it.
A Consummate Artist.......2004-04-10
Peter is equally gifted in all areas of his craft. His songwriting is deep and passionate, clever and accessible, emanating from a mind that is sublimely curious about life, love, science, and people, and a heart that skips a beat in wonder at the miracle of it all. On top of this he is a superb guitar player and has a compelling and lovely voice. At one concert I heard an audience member saying they'd come from three states away to hear him -- and I know why. It's not just the way he performs or writes; it's the way he thinks. I would recommend this album to anyone, of any age. He will lift you up from your life!
Can't say enough good things about Peter Mayer!.......2004-01-17
This man is brilliant. Listening to his work is one great discovery after another.
First you hear a lovely song - nice tune, maybe some catchy lyrics - and you smile and tap or hum along.
Then you really listen to the lyrics and you hear layers of meaning - funny wordplays and intellectual ideas that no ordinary songwriter could touch. (When is the last time you heard a song about physics that captured the essence of some complicated scientific concepts, had spiritual resonance, and was fun to listen to? Probably never - until you've heard 'World of Dreams' from Bountiful.)
Then you see him play live and you realize that nearly all of those wonderful sounds are coming from one man with one guitar. Percussion, melody, you name it and he's playing it all at the same time. But that's not to say that his sound is bare - quite the contrary! He knows when to bring in maracas, accordians, mandolins, or other instruments to augment his amazing guitar and compelling voice without overwhelming them.
The end result is funny, smart, and above all beautiful. Metaphysical lullabies and sailing songs, humorous warnings about magic water, spiritual carnies, the simple joys the county fair, and a perfect Thanksgiving holiday tune to top it off. This album is his best yet.

We had a wonderfull time listening to the lovely songs again with our now adult children!

The Best Folk Artist of All-Time.......2003-03-21
Peter Mayer is the best folk artist of all time. The combination of intuitive lyrics and soothing guitar provide an overall aesthetic experience. This is music that should be shared by and with all.
An excellent intro to an emerging star.......2002-05-14
Why aren't songwriters like Peter Mayer more well-known? I'm not sure, but I get a kick out of hearing people say, "Who is this guy? He's pretty good. He should be on the radio." In a world filled with fluff and garbled lyrics, this CD is a thought-provoking breath of fresh air. Blessed with a captivating voice, Peter wins us over with the sense that he is really having a good time in his career. There is a balance of dark and light songs here along with some really excellent guitar playing. I played "Now Touch the Air Softly" for my wife and it is now her favorite.
Get this CD and be introduced to a wonderful artist.
Million Year Mind.......2002-02-19
I had the pleasure of hearing Peter last night up close and personnal with a small crowd of 165 friends. Awesome gentleman, excellent singer. A little James Taylor, a little Phil Ochs, poetry like Dylan, various rhythms like Paul Simon. He is thoughtful, humorus, and insightful. Buy one of his CDs and you will buy others. Attend one of his concerts and you will buy them all. ... His music can be listened to again and again, over and over, with as much joy as though you were listening for the first time. Yea, 5 stars covers it well!
Inspiring, funny, thought-provoking lyrics and AWESOME music.......2001-12-04
I had the opportunity to attend a coffee house performance by Peter Mayer and was truly BLOWN AWAY by his amazing talent! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this CD and his newest, soon-to-be-released CD ELEMENTS. Thanks for sharing your gifts with us, Peter!

Album Description
Different Waters is Storyhill / Chris & Johnny's second CD. It was recorded in early 1992, while Chris & Johnny were still in college. Songs such as "Holding On," and "Storm," as well as live favorite "Pancho and Lefty" illustrate the depth and creativity their early songwriting. Different Waters, like their first CD, Shapeshifting, was recorded on a semi-pro 8-track tape recorder, and retains a homespun sound and charm.

montana, through and through.......2000-08-14
compared to their excellent live material (cf. Echoes) this disc is a bit restrained, but gems like "4 am blues" and "She holds my heart in the wind" make it a keeper. the music evokes the sentimentalism and individuality of kids who grew up in the montana-idaho-eastern WA/OR area, for whom running water plays a primary role in their concept of self.

Music of the Soul.......2007-06-03
I purchased this cd after hearing Peter Mayer in Fla.
His spirit shines through with each chord, tap and word-
The Birthday song is vivid in imagery and hopeful in it's message-
The cd is in a word a delight...
excellent.......2006-07-16
I loved this CD, especially the funny "Scatterbrain," and "The Introvert Song," and the spiritual-sensual "O Sun." If you love acoustic guitar and inspiring, meaningful, authentic lyrics, you will love this offering.
AWESOME.......2002-11-21
This singer/songwriter from Minneapolis is unbelievable. He is at his best live in concert, which is why this CD is so great. His songs are thought provoking, funny, beautiful.
Fantastic.......2002-02-25
I saw Peter Mayer live in a coffeehouse last night... and I fell completely in love with him and his music. There's a story behind every song, and his guitarwork is FANTASTIC!! When you hear Molly O'Malley's or Astronaut Dreams, you hear a drum in the background... that is not drums. That is Mr. Mayer beating on his guitar. He picks, sings, and does incredible beats on his guitar all at once... it's only one man, but he is able to make so many sounds, it's incredible. I was completely speechless after his performance. Not only that, but he is also a very sweet, friendly guy... after the performance, he kindly stuck around to speak to us, and it seemed like he actually wanted to, and he enjoyed it. My friend gave him a hug, and he thought it was great. :-) If this man comes to your city, you MUST see him... it will be one of the great emotional musical experiences of your entire life. Please keep this man in mind... he's a gem. :-)
Inspiring, funny, thought provoking lyrics and GREAT music!.......2001-12-04
I had the pleasure of attending a coffee house performance by Peter Mayer and was totally BLOWN AWAY by his awesome talent! This is, by far, his best CD to date. I highly recommend it!
