5 out of 5 stars Re-educating Davey.......2002-04-04

...Tal Klein (who IS Trancenden, apparently) has stepped in to re-educate me. Peace Love Beats is dance music for people who need for the music to be as important as the dance. Unendingly fun, it also indicates its' creator's clever musical curiousity that fills the grooves up with a dazzling succession of surprises. Klein demonstrates a genre-crossing knowledge of music, pulling in bits and samples from across 4 decades worth of popular music, but avoids the common trap of simply aping the source music. You will hear references to artists as disparate as Sly and the Family Stone, Steve Miller, Angelo Badalamaneti, and Portishead, but it's still a wholy original blend of both upbeat and slower contemplative pieces. It's great, and you will hate yourself if you don't hear it. Download the clips available here for a taste, but order the CD for the full experience.

I put the disc on at a large party last weekend while on a beach trip. When it first started, we heard a lot of kneejerk reactions about how people didn't like "that kind" of music. The whole disc played without interruption. Later, when we left the party, with most of the younger crowd still hanging out, they wouldn't let us leave with it. We were told later that it got played twice more before the party broke up. What better endorsement could you ask for?

Don't have a party without it.

5 out of 5 stars Killer Beats to get you going.......2002-03-14

This album is awesome! I don't think there's a song on there that I can't jam out to at any moment. This is one of those cds that is worth every penny for every single song! I love making a purchase for just a couple songs and finding the rest of the album is even better than what I bought it for. I can't wait for the next one. Trancenden is going to be huge if he keeps this up!

5 out of 5 stars Something for everyone; suited to several situations.......2002-03-12

Pulling together a number of surprisingly delightful auditory experiences, Peace Love Beats finds itself equally comfortable being played at a party or as background music during a study session. Although there are a number of hooks throughout to draw the ear back to the music, the CD is subdued enough to allow the listener to think about other things - and yet it manages to keep from becoming excessively repetitive, a common mistake made by artists of this genre.

Each track has its own distinct theme, with drums taking the fore on one song and airy female voices leading on another. The fadeout between tracks successfully separates them so you know what you're listening to, and yet the tracks are joined enough musically to ensure a polished feel. The exceptions to this are "please hold" and "kaeru no uta ga," which are pleasant enough to listen to and a good pair together, but don't fit in well with the rest of the CD - they jolt the listener into a separate frame of mind. The album's sole disappointment is its only live track, "waltz of the lost ravers." It lacks both the interesting auditory hooks and the identifiable theme that work so well for the rest of the CD, and it slips into repetition more than any other track.

On the whole, though, Peace Love Beats is a delight to listen to. Excellent tracks include "alright" and "frequent frequency" but several others are astonishingly good as well - what could have been a jumbled sequence of computer commands has been spun into a lovely musical cloth.

5 out of 5 stars Consider your beats broken!.......2002-02-25

Tal M. Klein is the DJ! He's a whole lot more, too--he's a professional breaker of beats, and he's put together a great batch o' beats this time out, as well as found sounds, funky bits, samples and grooves. His earlier work was already pretty darned good, but it was a warmup for this, which is tight, funky, without a beat wasted.

5 out of 5 stars Rump shaking funk.......2002-02-22

If you have any love for old school funk or hip hop, you oughta check this out. Play this CD at your next party, and I guarantee everybody will be tapping their foot and bouncing around to this. This CD embodies what funk and fun hip hop is all about - music so good you can't help but dance to it. I keep this CD in my car all the time, it's great to listen to while driving. I cannot say enough good stuff about this music - I'm glad I discovered it.

2 out of 5 stars what an original title!.......2004-12-28

I seem to be getting a lot of e-mails about this CD, so let me set the record straight: I, Tal M. Klein, producer of the CD 'Peace Love Beats' (also available from amazon) have nothing to do with this CD. However, since I've been getting inundated with questions about it, I figured I'd give people my thoughts on it: This CD is a faux soundtrack for a movie with the same title. I picked up this CD at Winter Music Conference 2004. The CD, much like its movie counterpart, is a self-important backrub for the Miami Winter Music conference, an event where hasbeen's and wannabe's get together and do a lot of cocaine in South Beach. Although the mixes on the album are flawless and banging, the tracks themselves are uninteresting and repetitive (overdose house). If what you're looking for is epitomic modern dance music, I'd reccomend purchasing Sonar 2004 (ASIN: B0002C41DS) instead of this CD, or if you have the means and wherewithal, perhaps buy both so that you can judge for yourself.

5 out of 5 stars Loving the beats on "Peace Love and Beats".......2004-08-25

This is one of those CD's that you can listen to ALL the way through without having to skip over any songs. That is rare..Its perfect, brilliantly mixed together and the tracks really compliment each other. Its such a fun mix, can be a soundtrack for a party, a workout, and just chillen. I'm so excited to have others experience this!!

5 out of 5 stars the best DJ mix CD of the summer!!.......2004-08-25

Review from Raves.com's Claire Maxwell: "If I was going to quote what my friends who I've played this CD for have said, this definitely tops the list: "Can I borrow this??" Get ready for a nonstop mix that goes from Paul van Dyk's number one hit "Nothing But You", to Interstate's "I Found You" (an unsigned track which Oakenfold just picked up for his latest Creamfields compilation, sure to be a future hit), to this summer's Motorcyle anthem "As The Rush Comes" to Scumfrog's "Music Revolution" this CD really is a revolution in how it manages to flow from one genre to another without loosing its energy, like a great DJ might do at a party. That's just the first four tracks!!! It includes an amazing remix from Deepsky of The Crystal Method's new single "Born Too Slow" as well as some more underground but equally as incredible tracks from Static Revenger (the stunning Breathless), a funny sidestep into the funky "Ooh I Like It" from WIT. This CD smoothly sails into a more downtempo groove with Mea, Bulb, the stunning Afro Mystik and finally The Latin Project. This is a CD you'll play over and over and over, guaranteed!!"
