More of a happy-go-lucky artist in his younger days, Tim McGraw here sounds as if he carries the weight of the world on his shoulders. After the comparatively lighthearted, irresistibly catchy opening single, "Last Dollar (Fly Away)," most of the midtempo material that follows ranges from the somber to the morose. There's the night-shift weariness of "I'm Workin'," the alcohol-drenched heartbreak of "Whiskey and You," and the soul-tortured title track. Even a song with the upbeat title "Put Your Lovin' on Me" has McGraw asking his lover to "be my drug" and "take this weight off me." Things turn positively lethal with "Between the River and Me," the story of revenge on an alcoholic, wife-beating stepfather. The set also features the obligatory duet of marital devotion with Faith Hill ("I Need You") and a couple of nods toward classic country ("Kristofferson" and the closing "Shotgun Rider," which could be McGraw's "Mamas, Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up to Be Cowboys"). "Nothin' to Die For" returns to the inspirational vein of "Live Like You Were Dying," but little here finds McGraw in a feel-good mode. --Don McLeese

1 out of 5 stars This Album is a Cure for Insomnia.......2007-07-17

This is the worst kind of trash I have ever heard. The chord progressions are not unique, and it is not even true to the spirit of british rock and roll. The guy can't even sing. In fact, I heard he lip syncs at his concerts. After I heard this album, I stomped on it and threw it in my garbage. Maybe you should buy it so that you can do it too.

3 out of 5 stars Not Tim's best.......2007-07-09

I bought this CD because of the duet of Tim and Faith Hill, I Need You. It's an amazing song and I absolutely love it! However, the rest of the CD doesn't do much for me. It's not bad, but it's not great either. Some songs are better than others, but the duet is the only one that really stands out to me, although I do enjoy the last track. I can't totally trash this CD, but I just can't highly recommend it either.

5 out of 5 stars A Great album.......2007-07-05

This is a great album, it was my first Tim Mcgraw cd. There is something very real and down to earth about these songs. It has a very authentic feel to it, life, the truimphs, the loses, love... And all throughout there is a spiritual/inspirational feel to the entire album. Tim Mcgraw sings from the heart.

The song "I Need You" just blew me away, it's one of my all time favorite songs. "Last Dollar (Fly Away)" is such a fun song.

All the songs on this album are very good and memorable. Now I have almost all of Mr. Mcgraw's cds!

A Great Album...

5 out of 5 stars Let It Play!.......2007-07-01

I have just returned home from Canada - travelled there to see Tim & Faith on their Soul2Soul Tour. The show was absolutely sensational, and I even got to shake the man's hand! Until I heard these songs performed live! I must admit I felt that the album was a little flat and heavy compared to previous Tim efforts, however I now have a newfound appreciation of their depth and McGraw's abilities. Diversity definitely a word which can be attributed to him and his prowess as a performner.

Between The River & Me marries the aural aspects of Garth Brooks' Thunder Rolls with the lyrics of the Dixie Chicks' Goodbye Earl, and it really works. The obligatory Tim & Faith duet is magnificent - I Need You's lyrics really demonstrate that with a gorgeous melody to boot. Last Dollar is as up-tempo as you can get - a great party tune. One further favourite is Suspicions which could easily be a soul artist performing - exceptional.

I hope Tim's next album has some more hopeful tracks on it, definitely. However as an artistic piece, the album is really quite flawless, with an impressive story-telling dexterity that so many song-writers can only aspire to.

Look forward to the next exciting chapter in the McGraw chronicles, and will DEFINITELY return to the US or Canada to hear the songs live! Britain really does not know what it is missing!

3 out of 5 stars "Let it Go" Falls a little flat for this McGraw fan.......2007-06-27

By this point in his career Tim McGraw is one of the most decorated Country artists of the past 20 years. Unfortunately I found this album to be out in Left Field bouncing along instead of heading out over the fence. Many of the songs have the signature soulful vocals from McGraw, however I found the songwriting to be much weaker than previous albums. Nothing instrumentally seems to have the hooks or emotional sounds of albums past, so instead of peaks and valleys I felt like many of the songs just plodded along without any particular direction. Not until the eighth song did I find a song that really reached out and grabbed me, and with "Nothin to Die For" I at this point am hoping the rest of the album will finish strong. It does pump up the volume a bit with the semi-honky "Between the River and Me" as it also has a bit of a darker appeal within its sound and songwriting. The song "Train #10" is somewhat memorable, but nothing to write home about.

With song eleven the CD rolls into "I Need You" in which his wife Faith Hill sings along. By this time I've heard many tunes that the couple have sang and though this one does not stand out to me as those have, I really enjoyed it for the most part and much take my hat off to Faith's vocal performance on this track. Thirteen tracks in all, it is not near as strong as past CD's but if you are a big Tim McGraw fan and have enjoyed everything he has done up to this point, you may find it appealing enough.

Thanks to a fortuitous intersection of talent and fate, 22-year-old Josh Groban hasn't finished his senior year in performing arts school but has already released his sophomore effort on a major major label. Fans of the young vocal phenom's debut will find much to enthrall them here, even if it nudges the singer closer to the center of producer/mentor David Foster's MOR pop sensibilities. Eschewing much of its predecessor's more overt classic-lite pretensions and pop-rock covers for a slate of dramatic, Eurocentric ballads that serve as a showcase for the singer's inviting baritone, Groban shrewdly positions himself as the American alternative to the Bocelli-Watson crossover axis. "Caruso" may find the singer falling short of its operatic inspiration, but "Oceano" and "My Confession" quickly showcase his true dramatic range (which seems to all but yearn for a bona fide Broadway musical challenge), while a vocal take of Bacalov's graceful "Il Postino" theme uses classical virtuoso Joshua Bell's violin flourishes to good effect. To his credit, Groban displays some promising efforts at songwriting collaboration on the bittersweet "Per Te" and "Remember When It Rains," while the ambient/ethnic soundscape of Deep Forest's "Never Let Go" offers a teasing alternative to the record's otherwise melodramatic production formula. Groban has found commercial triumph via Foster's mentoring, but there remains a nagging sense here that he hasn't truly pushed himself as an artist--yet. --Jerry McCulley

5 out of 5 stars More Great music.......2007-07-03

I buy Spyro as soon as it hits the stores and have never been disappointed. Good to Go-GO is just another in a long line of Great work. Jay changes his support crew but the basics don't change. He lets his new members put their own touches to the history and evolution of the Band.
My favorite cut on this album has to be A Winter Tale. The growling base work and the light airy piano along with the Sax makes this premire music. I listened to the cut three time in a row the very fisrt time and picked up new nuances everytime.

5 out of 5 stars Energy, sparkle, chops, and great grooves.......2007-06-20

I've been listening to SG since 1981 - had all their early years stuff on vinyl and have seen/heard them several times in concert. They've always been jaw-droppingly amazing live and most of their studio sessions in the last few years have failed to capture the magic that is Spyro Gyra. Not this CD. Cut 1 with Tom Schuman growling on the Rhodes and Julio cruising out on guitar is well-worth the price of admiission alone. No group, and I mean no group, has the raw talent and musicianship that these guys do. This CD allows them all to stretch out and develop their solos and boy does this CD groove. Run, don't walk. . . . . Jay B and Co. have proven, once again, that they are the king of the contemporary jazz genre.

5 out of 5 stars The Lyrics Say It All..........2007-06-13

After the low-key "Wrapped In A Dream", "Good To Go-Go" is a breath of fresh air in my opinion. I am an avid Contemporary Jazz genre fan, and love upbeat jazz. This certainly fits the bill, plus it has a cool calypso sound in a couple of the tracks. I was happy to hear that they are going back to a few tracks that contain lyrics, making it easier to remember what track/song you are listening to. This is/was certainly an entertaining CD and I would easily buy it for a friend or family member.

5 out of 5 stars Best CD in years.......2007-06-12

This is the best of Spyro Gyra's in years. After some average CD's like Original Cinema, The Deep End and Wrapped in a Dream they came with this one. The couldn't find a better tittle for this album because is really GOOD TO GO-GO. If you are a fan you will love this one but if you never heard them this is a good time to start doing it. Island time is the best track.

4 out of 5 stars Energetic, interesting and exciting! .......2007-06-12

Spyro Gyra has consistently been one of the most successful pop-jazz groups of the past 30 years.
They released their first self-titled album in 1976 which they paid for and released on their own, on an independent label. Their sound caught on.
Within a year they had sold tens of thousands of records and signed a record deal.
The group has released an album of unique, innovative music almost every year for the past three decades. Not bad for some guys who just started out jammin'.
"Good to Go-Go" is the band's twenty-sixth of their overall career and their fifth release on Heads Up, following on the heels of the GRAMMY nominated 2006 release Wrapped in a Dream (Best Pop Instrumental Album).
They keep maiteining a fresh approach to their craft by borrowing from a range of sources and distilling them into an unmistakable signature sound.
A new face in the Spyro Gyra lineup belongs to drummer/percussionist Bonny B (short for Bonaparte). The Trinidad native had been touring with the band for several months before they went into the studio to record "Good To Go-Go", and the energy he brought to the party served as the catalyst for some fine tuning in the group's overall philosophy.
Bonny B joins saxophonist and Spyro Gyra founder Jay Beckenstein, keyboardist Tom Schuman, guitarist Julio Fernandez and bassist Scott Ambush in the five-man lineup.
Guest violinist Howes adds a continental flair to "The Left Bank", which is still 90% Spyro Gyra and the very talented Andy Narell adds his pan-playing to the second track.
The highlights of the the album are the bouncy mid-tempo "Simple Pleasures", a great song to listen to while driving with the windows down on a warm summer evening; the syncopated backbeat and subtle tonal shifts of uptempo "Get Busy" make for a challenging but fun melodic exercise.
"Along for the Ride" and "Island Time" take the listeners into a sort of Arthur Lyman/Les Baxter exotic islands music, but updated for the 21st century. Andy Narell adds his pan-playing to the second track and by now this album has won everybody's spirit.
Going into the homestretch with the title track, penned by Ambush, a highly percussive drums/bass groove that allows room for sax, keyboards and more.
Closing with "Newroses" increases the tempo/energy even further, with each band member trading licks for almost seven minutes.
In one word, a truly enjoyable, spirited delight.

Amazon.com's Best of 2001

Global a Go-Go, Joe Strummer's second album with the Mescaleros following 1999's Rock Art and the X-Ray Style, mines the same concerns that have always inspired his music. "Johnny Appleseed" and "Cool 'n' Out" center on his brash eruptive guitar but hark back to his pre-punk folk busking roots, with lyrics anchored by a strong sense of indignation and social commitment. Strummer may pride himself as an original punk warlord, but he realizes punk can only thrive by rejoicing in Britain's ever-vibrant multicultural melting pot as he does on "Bhindi Bagee" and the Arabic-inflected refugee requiem "Shaktar Donetsk." His longstanding fascination with dub reggae fuels "At the Border, Guy", while the Marconi-saluting title track celebrates the power of radio to present new worlds and unite communities. On "Mondo Bongo" he dispenses with his trademark bark for a lovely ballad laced with pre-Clash accomplice Tymon Dogg's lonesome violin. This is real anger with a big warm heart; maturity suits Strummer just fine. --Gavin Martin

Album Description

Joe Strummer continues to be the only Clash principal member who remains active. Talking the world and folk influences of Rock Art and the X-Ray Style a step further, Global A Go-Go is a deep, mature piece of work by a reinvigorated artist who has more in common with Bob Dylan and Van Morrison than the Sex Pistols. 11 tracks. 2001 Hellcat/Epitaph Records release.

genuis with a raw voice who sings to you personally. You willl be deeply moved from Track 1 onward. Every song is a winner! Treat yourself and your friends to some of the best music ever!! It's mesmorizing and joyfully addicting! I love you Joe Strummer!

5 out of 5 stars The best Mescaleros album.......2007-01-26

I truly feel that this album was more organized, experimental, and overall "better" than Streetcore. Don't get me wrong, I love Streetcore and think it's an amazing album when compared to anything else, but it's just not on the same level as Global A Go-Go. And yes, I know Streetcore was release posthumous, with some songs only having one take and the like.

I think the melodies in Global are simply amazing. I love how some songs you can shake to, while others are simply "listen and chill". The experimental sound is something I always felt separated Joe Strummer & The Mescaleros from every other band out there right now, and it really shows in Global. Afro-beats, reggae, funk, folk, Spanish, it's all here!

Overall, an amazing album that any fan of Joe Strummer, ethnic-inspired music, or new music would be interested in. Period.

Self-professed skate punk Avril Lavigne sings that she'd "rather be anything but ordinary" on her debut. While the fact that she had a record deal by the age of 16 separates her from the pack, too often Let Go's lyrical shortcomings drag the teenager's musically impressive recording entrée into the realm of the typical. The catchy choruses of Go are substantial, though, thanks to Lavigne's riff-driven melodies and powerful vocals, which at times adopt the unorthodox intonation quirks of fellow Canadian Alanis Morrissette. The nuanced, dynamic "Losing Grip," "My World" (which perfectly captures the ennui of suburbia), and the buoyant power-pop blast "Sk8er Boi" are the collection's highlights. But Lavigne's honest yet awkward words weigh down the likes of "Mobile," "I'm with You," and "Naked." "Nobody's Fool," which displays her Pink-like take-me-as-I-am credo, hints that someday Lavigne's lyrics will match the strength of her music. --Annie Zaleski

Disneymania, as of 2007, has become an acute condition, perhaps affecting more 9- to 12-year-olds than spring fever or orthodontia-related toothaches. And not without reason. Disneymania 5, the latest installment of the series that lets the tweeniest pop stars loose behind the mike with classic Disney hits, is fizzier than a cherry coke and more uplifting than the "Breaking Free" scene from High School Musical. Here we have B5 busting out a hip-hop-lite version of the "Siamese Cat Song," as well as better-known singers Ashley Tisdale and Vanessa Hudgens (both from High School Musical) finding their way through familiar favorites "Kiss the Girl" and "Colors of the Wind." Moms will be partial to the Go-Go's high-strung "Let's Get Together," but count on Disney Channel devotees proclaiming the Cheetah Girls' Cinderella ballad "So This is Love" the fairest--and most kickin'--of them all. --Tammy La Gorce

5 out of 5 stars The second best of the Disney MANIA Collection!!!.......2007-07-06

I think this CD is the one of the best CD'S in the Disney Mania Collection. My Favorite song is the Colors of the wind song by Vanessa Hudgens. The version she made is better tban the first one.
Vanessa has a better singing voice than the other lady.

VANESSA IS THE BEST!!!!

5 out of 5 stars a good cd.......2007-06-07

what a great cd. One of the best disney mania of all time. I really love Jordan Pruit's version of "When She Loved Me" it is so good it fits with her voice. I also love the Cheetah Girls's version of "So this Is love" the spanish part sounds so beautiful. Vanessa hudgens didnt do her best with "Colors of the Wind" but she did all she can with that song. After all it is a hard song to sing trust me I sang it for my school quoir once and it was murder on my voice so good for you Vanessa you did a hard song.
Ashley did a good job with "Kiss The Girl". The other songs sound good except "Second star to the right" by T-squad the kill the song. The other songs sound okay.

5 out of 5 stars Mimi's Review.......2007-06-01

Wow, this CD is really great! I must say the best CD I've ever bought in my life! Well that is, until I get another CD that's better. But as for right now, Disneymania 5 is taking that possision. Judging by the other reviews, I see that Go the Distance is making this CD stand out. I don't blame one bit! If Lucas Grabeel makes a solo album (which he should), maybe that's going to take place of Disneymania 5. Oh well, I also liked Miley Cyrus, Corbin Bleu (loved him in Jump In!), Jordan Pruitt, Ashley Tisdale (my girl!), Vanessa Hudgens, Everlife, and Drew Seeley (*squeals*)!

4 out of 5 stars Pretty good.......2007-05-31

To make this review short, it's not a bad CD. Features some of today's hottest stars on the Disney Channel.

Songs I really enjoyed were from Miley Cyrus, Jonas Brothers, Vanessa Hudgens, Lucas Grabeel, and Drew Seeley.

5 out of 5 stars Disneymania Vol 5.......2007-05-21

5 out of 5 stars Unbelievably amazing... Newsboys "Go" simply rocks.......2007-07-23

I've had connections with cds in the past, with the Newsboys and with other artists alike... you know, the one or two songs on a disc that stick with you and help you get over the rough bumps of life, or the songs that really get you going.
This disc almost begs you to play it through from beginning to end.

It's almost unfair to totally approve or dismiss "Go" immediately without taking time to dive into it - although it's kinda like diving into chicken alfredo pasta after you've waited about 90 minutes for it at a restaurant (i.e. you're HUNGRY for food). Sure, the initial bites are fantastic, and you're ready to wolf it down...

But listen to it again a few weeks down the road... listen to songs like "Something Beautiful" when you are worshipping God for all He is... listen to "Let It All Come Out" when you need to come before God to confess your sinfulness to Him... listen to "The Letter" when you need encouragement... and you begin to understand that "Go" isn't just for listening to great songs. Like any Christian music cd out there, it becomes a tool to reconnect with God again.

For the sum total of my experiences, "Go" is like "Step Up To The Microphone" - but with more punch; like "Love, Liberty, Disco" - but with a galvanized sense of direction; with even more powerful impact than "Devotion". To be completely honest, it's a spiritual midsection of the Christian life: "Go" realistically feels like a journal of experiences and scripture verses. I wonder if it wasn't the collective wisdom of the 'boys to come up with a new cd, one that communicated the importance of continuing on the journey with Jesus Christ... it sure feels that way to me.

Well done boys, well done.

5 out of 5 stars Family loves it!.......2007-07-10

We bought tickets to the 'Go' concert so we bought the CD so we would know the new Newsboys songs. It has turned into our favorite CD.

5 out of 5 stars Great CD.......2007-07-05

I'm an old-school Newsboys fan who was a bit disappointed that they spent so much time making retreds of other people's music on "Adoration" and "Devotion". One reason that I love the Newsboys older music like "Breakfast" and "Take me to your leader" is for the brilliantly witty lyrics by Steve Taylor. I'm dating myself, but I was a fan of his solo career, and I've never heard lyrics to top those on "I want to be a clone". Teaming up with the musical powerhouse of the Newsboys was a superb combination. So I am glad to hear them recording their own music again, and these songs have blessed me a lot. "In Wonder" is a better worship song than any from their last two albums. "Go" is the great commission put to modern rock. And "Your love is better than life" is classic Newsboys fun with a solid message.

5 out of 5 stars Something beautiful~yeah, yeah!:).......2007-06-17

"Here's..to....the Lover of my soul!!" Amen.

5 out of 5 stars Newsboys have done it again!.......2007-06-07

Newsboys have always been known for their great hooks, quirky lyrics, and their ability to make one heck of an album, Go is no exception, combine the musical talents from thrive, the dance beat from Not Ashamed, and the great lyrics from take me to your leader and you get GO! GO could be their best album to date!

Electronic music usually profits from simplicity, a point the Field's Axel Willner understood well when he made From Here We Go Sublime. Hailing from Sweden, Willner's record has a weightless allure built out of droning spaces and populated with puffy cloud melodies that float and hover. It's not exactly minimalist, because the layers are too complex and full of forward motion. But the assured way they repeat and loop into a dance-friendly texture would make both Brian Eno and Underworld proud.

FHWGS has no interest in the usual peaks and valleys of trance, and yet its consistent anthemic oomph makes it a distant relative of that oft-derided genre. Willner's patience and his emphasis on muted beats enable him to get maximum impact with only slight tweaks. "Over the Ice" sets the table with soft tones and scattered, wordless voices before dropping a hyper cross-rhythm, while glitch-y sidebars frame the exceedingly kind melody that drives "A Paw in My Voice." Even when the BPM notch gets kicked up on a relative burner like "Everyday," it fits right in with the record's benevolent disposition. It's brilliant stuff, a less-is-more epic that wafts onto the dance floor like a gust of summer wind. --Matthew Cooke

5 out of 5 stars elegant.......2007-07-14

Cool, sparse, driving...just a few of the many descriptive words that come to mind in attempting that exceedingly difficult task--namely, putting into words what an album does to the listener. Subjectivity is inherent, from the quantum level to the playing [the] field level. That all being said, as far as this reviewer is convinced, 'From Here We Go Sublime' is one of the finest works of art released in the past year. The electronic genre is not especially known for strong albums; however, The Field's debut LP follows an exquisite narrative arc, with a constant rhythm pounding throughout the duration. "A Paw in My Face", "The Little Heart Beats So Fast", and the final cut--the title cut--are standouts in a crowded field...pun moderately intended. And every single track is both listenable and worthy of one of the writer's favorite movie quotes: "Good title". Buy this album and transcend into the Here and Now.

5 out of 5 stars From Here We Go Sublime.......2007-06-07

The Field mastermind Axel Willner came seemingly out of nowhere to do the impossible: up the profile of the already do-no-wrong Kompakt Records and keep the label's sound intact while giving it the twist nobody wanted to admit that it needed. In the same vein as (and on par with) Luomo's Vocalcity, From Here We Go Sublime could go down in history as the album that makes minimal techno accessible, without the need to add vocals or pander to a lower common denominator. But while Sublime is far from "stupid music," it's a refreshingly simple and aerated take on textural techno at a time when too many electronic musicians trip over their own mixer cords, and it thrives on thrust and clarity rather than on strained beauty. Pop music has always been about taking a few key ingredients and flying them to the moon. By looping only crucial elements--sometimes from his own machines and sometimes from others' (who knew that bits of '80s adult-contempo cheese could sound so wondrous?)--over basic kickdrums that highlight what's really important (the melodies), Willner has reflected the joy of pop on a record that doesn't sound like it's trying to win the gold medal, but unbelievably, undeniably does.

5 out of 5 stars For once, believe the hype.......2007-05-16

The music press has gotten into a phase in which it seems like every single critic showers a band/artist/genre with accolades galore only to see them "lose it" an album or two later (anyone remember the VU-inspired garage band revival of a few years ago?).

This album is the best-reviewed album of 2007. This says alot about the music press and the music world in general...it is rare/nonexistent to see an album from the still rather obscure (I use that word lightly) genre of ambient techno be rated "best album of the year".

As for the album itself, do believe the hype. This album is both listenable and interesting when it comes to hearing what The Field (Axel Willner) can do with the deceptively simpleton beats and bleeps. The album is trance-inducing and well worth your attention.

3 out of 5 stars simple or subtle?.......2007-05-05

Hate to admit that I'm one of those just a little baffled by the wondrous reviews this disc has received. It consists of the steady, and rather conservative, rhythms that are used in creating the foundation for basic club music. Nothing more. It is hilarious when one track rapidly fades out just as a guitar starts to be introduced into the mix. If this stuff was public domain, it would be perfect for someone to use for home recording along with whatever lead instruments or vocals they might want to add. But on its own it takes shoe-gazing to a level of serious introversion. I don't know.

5 out of 5 stars Stunning minimal dance debut.......2007-04-16

As I mentioned recently in a review for Gui Boratto's Chromophobia album, it's sometimes difficult to distinguish the exact reasons why one minimal electronic release is better than another one, due to similarities in production and overall sound. Of course, in the end it usually comes down largely to personal perceptions that can't be explained, but other defining characteristics (because of the constructs of the music itself) are nearly always very, very subtle in and of themselves.

From Here We Go Sublime is yet another release on the Kompakt label that is nonetheless completely stunning, and for reasons mentioned above, it's difficult to explain why. The debut release from Sweden's Axel Willner, it drifts somewhere between minimal dance music and repetitive ambience, with beats that clomp along fast enough to fuel movement, but with enough ethereal qualities that you could simply put it on and trip out on the couch with it easily enough as well. Essentially, it's trance music of the highest quality, veering completely leftward of the cheeseball Global Underground crowd, and falling somewhere between the work of Kaito (also on the Kompakt label) and Wolfgang Voigt (aka Gas).

Willner actually has a few things in common with micro-sample sculptor Akufen, but instead of trying to wow you with his cutting ability and a frantic hand, he has pulled out hundreds of little heavily melodic snippets and stutters and scatters them across gorgeous expanses, building tracks slowly and letting them peak subtlety. The release opens with "Over The Ice," a single that was released last year to great acclaim, and for good reason. The piece is a perfect introduction to his sound, with micro samples of vocals that flutter over a relentless 4/4 thump, building basslines, and all kinds of subtle spacial effects.

With ten songs running nearly exactly an hour in length, it's also a remarkably consistent release. "Good Things End" is constructed as many other tracks on the release, with jittery vocals samples over a rambling, rolling beat and some sudden bursts of tweaked noise. Even though the aforementioned "Over The Ice" got his foot in the door, there are actually a slew of tracks on From Here We Go Sublime that are even better. "Everday" is a perfect example, again building with spiraling upward beats and slippery programming while bright, overlapping vocal samples push things higher and higher until the stunning ending.

At ten minutes "The Deal" is the longest track on the album, but doesn't feel a bit weary as it pushes forward with devastating low-end bass and sprays of overdriven noise. It's the closest thing to Gas (who was supposedly one of his biggest musical inspirations) on the release, and manages to sound both hazy and clear as day at the same time. An outstanding debut, From Here We Go Sublime is yet another excellent album from the Kompakt this label and a release that has gotten some of the most play of anything I've heard this year. If you like minimal electronic music at all, you must seek it out.

It's easy to dismiss the music of this cute, vegan, bare-pated relative of Herman Melville, especially if you don't actually listen to the music and focus instead on his ultra-PC interview style or the manner in which he sold dozens of songs to commercials and film soundtracks back in Y2K. But to do so is to knee-jerkedly miss out on some very fine and innovative music by one of the most influential musicians of the last decade. With the exception of two tracks (one of them the title tune), Go is a best-of from the years that Moby's been on the V2 label, from 1999's breakthrough hit Play onward. But Play--with its uncanny reworking of field recordings with playful beats and ambient textures--remains the artist's finest moment. A full disc of remixes and a smattering of unreleased songs (including a rad new number with Debbie Harry on guest vocals) make this an essential purchase for rabid fans. And, as a judicious selection of Play-era material is included alongside the finest songs from Moby's subsequent albums, 18 and Hotel, this is also the perfect entry point for the more casual fan. --Mike McGonigal

4 out of 5 stars The best of Moby.......2007-07-28

I am not the massive fan of Moby's music as I once was back in the late '90s and early '00s. I used to own most of his cds but eventually my taste in music changed and I sold my Moby cds. I decided to check out Moby's best of compilation GO: THE VERY BEST OF MOBY after I had a craving for his music. There are two discs, disc one consists of the original tracks and disc two consists of remixes. I found the remix disc absolute rubbish and boring beyond belief. It was so not necessary to include a remix disc in my personal opinion. I am just content with disc one. Since I hadn't heard Moby's last studio cd HOTEL, the songs from that album were new to me. I especially loved "Dream About Me" w/Laura Dawn on vocals. The song is so addictively catchy. Laura's delicate vocals is another reason why I love the song. I am so glad Moby didn't include that rancid version of "South Side" with Gwen Stefani on vocals. Gwen Stefani can't sing period and she totally ruined that song for me when that new version of "South Side" came out. I wasn't too big on the 2006 version of "Go". I prefer the original version. I love Debbie Harry but her voice totally ruined the song "New York, New York". I wish Moby found someone else to sing vocals. As overplayed "Porcelain" was, I still love that song and all the singles from PLAY (as well as 18). GO: THE VERY BEST OF MOBY is a good compilation for casual fans like me.

And as for the artwork, the cover is nice but the booklets inside pictures are a bit disappointing. Oh well, moby rulez anyway.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Great vocal warmup, especially of breath control, with unique syllabic exercises!.......2007-06-17

I am a piano teacher who also teaches voice, and this CD has been a lifesaver for me, it has helped improve problems with my voice students that
common popular exercises have failed to achieve. The breath control exercises especially have been an enormous help, and my students find them
not only challenging but fun as well. The warmup exercises are a little unique, bringing in tweet, hweet, and unique ways to improve sound production with exercises that combine air production with compression against the lips and teeth. The exercises as a whole help students with the lower register as well as the upper, and effectively improve power without yelling. A great program, I highly recommend!

5 out of 5 stars Enjoyment.......2007-05-20

I haven't had the opportunity to review it for myself. However, my niece in california was so excited to receive this. She said she's enjoying it. She's working on her vocals daily.

Came really quickly and just in time! I needed some help warming up for an early morning service I had to sing for and I was hoarse. this really helped.

4 out of 5 stars Good tool.......2007-05-12

I find this material very useful. The teacher makes it feel like you are in actual face to face voice lessons. Technically acceptable.

5 out of 5 stars GREAT INVESTMENT.......2007-03-09
