Overall good "Ibiza" selection..........2002-11-22

The dual CD set "Chillout In Ibiza 2" from Smart records, is an overall good "Ibiza" album. However, some songs mess up the mix.

The first CD starts out with a warm, head-nodding song "Underground" by the Sneaker Pimps, then moves on to the flowing, ambient, remixed (by The Thrillseekers) version of Chicane's "Saltwater". Good start.

However, I guess where this is the Ibiza part comes in. The song "Age Of Love" by Age Of Love sort of messes up the mood by throwing in some lighter trance with a hard, distorted drumbeat. While it's a great song, it smudges the beginning light impression of the first CD. However, the rest of the CD is nice, with the remixed version of "Beautiful" by Mandalay living up to it's name itself, and LTJ Bukem's "Music" providing a interesting bell-like sample sound, with ambient drum & bass on top.

CD 2 eases you into a more "ambient reggae" chillout mood in the beginning, with Jam & Spoon's remix to "Go" by Moby. The rest of the CD is fine, with a nice light techno/trance feel to it, up to Funkstar De Luxe's version of "Sun Is Shining".
I'm sorry, but I don't think this song belongs on a chillout CD. It just totally breaks up the chillout mood. But, I guess they might have thrown it into there to keep the "Ibiza" feel in the compliation.

Standout tracks on the second CD are "Balearic Chill" by V Force, with a bassline that is just fun to listen to. LTJ Bukem's "Sunrain" (featuring Elliot) has a nice, slow, late night club feel to it.

Overall, the two cd's are pretty good, with an obvious Ibiza feel to them. However, I don't recommend listening to them unless you're in a light techno/trance mood. I would give them a 3.50 if I could.

all together these cds are great. individually they are a little thin. the two best tracks of the set are High Noon by kruder and dorfmeister and Come Home by lil devious. if you play all three together it will be a long relaxing night of chill.
