5 out of 5 stars seamlessly solid platter of moody jazz stylings.......2006-07-28

Kris reviewed this for Raves.com/Djfix.com and had this to say.. "Cordovan's Highway 10 Blues is not really blues. It's a seamlessly solid platter of moody jazz stylings. Cordovan's fusion of electronica and organic elements quickly absorbs the listener and carries him through a journey that reaches its conclusion surprisingly soon. Whether it's a short CD (I didn't time it) or it's just that good (which is what I think), you won't be checking your watch or looking to see which track you're on. I said this disc is a journey, and it truly is. While this is a batch of separate tracks, each its own, the music flows so well together you won't be conscious of track to track progression; rather, you will experience travel with this music as your companion. The disc carries you on a trip across a soundscape mixing jazz horn work and electronic textures that embraces ambient, chillout and experimental approaches. This compelling music, through the course of its running time, touches on smooth jazz, freestyle jazz, slight funk and more, always able to prod gently in different directions without jarring the listener. The tracks segue from one to the other with such subtlety one is left with the sensation of having encountered one long and highly listenable work that doesn't leave you in the same place you were when you started. Four and a half stars."

5 out of 5 stars Future Jazz for beat heads and jazzbos.......2005-02-04

The sticker on this disc calls it "future jazz" as have some of the reviews I've read elsewhere. Cordovan seems to be popping up all over--URB magazine, DJ sets in the UK, etc. I stumbled onto him through a brilliant hip-hop inspired cover version of Gil Evan's "la Nevada", in a U.K. DJ set--not even sure where it's available.
Anyways, the jazz is in there, like a subversive element beneath the groovin' beats. Some of the beat work is fairly complex, but it's always funky and driving. The harmonies and melodies is really where the jazz shows up--like Gil Evans, it's bittersweet, a bit abstract, emotional but . . .cool. I gather Cordovan is a bass player, and it shows--the bass is fat and proud, but never showy. Some of the sounds are . . .I wonder just WHAT some of those sounds are?
Check this guy out if you dig jazz and modern grooves from broken beat to hip hop to dub--you will not be dissapointed in this intelligent, timeless sounding music.

5 out of 5 stars IT PLEASES ME TO BE THE FIRST..........2004-10-26

...to review this interesting new talent! Cordovan was an artist that I took a chance on...actually I sampled some of his songs at the Lunatikworks Website, liked what I heard and went out and got the CD. What a refreshing discovery!!! Cordovan's music is hard to describe, although it's very familiar. He takes trip-hop, electro, funk, jazz and chill out music and fuses it all into beautiful masterpieces that dare you not to pay attention. One would say his sound is similar to that of Fila Brazillia, labelmate, Horse Noodles, Bonobo and an even sedated Amon Tobin...truly like the aforementioned, his style is eclectic and without a doubt, his very own. He produces and plays all instruments here, and, man, does he play them well on the groovy opener, "Magma", the galloping, "Gamma", the funky, "Blue Goo", the bass-ridden, "TK421" and haunting chill out tracks, "Fun With Sophie", "Skinny Girl", and "Black Rock Dub". Cordovan is indeed a creative genius and a master at what he does...a welcome addition to the world of electronica!!!
