From the Artist
"I feel angry that there are certain things that hold me back in my life and there is no other way that I can express that than making a record about it."

Product Description
A brief flash back to 2002… Andy Brooks is sipping cheap lager and eating crisps (that’s potato chips to you Americans!) in the run-down snug of a dilapidated North Manchester boozer. It is the eve of the release of his debut album, You, Me & Us, for East Midlands deep house imprint Mantis. Red Tape is a personal journey for Brooks. His inspiration couldn’t be further from the techno giants that loomed large over his debut. The Weimar cabaret effect; Lord Byron’s dirty escapades in a villa with narcotics; the dark-room, skinhead sex of modern Berlin’s rapturous night-time culture; Nazi suppression of the arts and the sound of concentration camp walls; the howling winds of graveyards in Edinburgh at 3AM; the music of industrial machinery; the flummoxing notion that nothing new or riveting had happened in a gay environment in Britain for as long as he had known it. If his first outing was a last stand in honor of the party, this one is an all out, glorious, twisted, sinful menace.

There is talk of Brooks assuming a transvestite persona; becoming an imaginary female tape op for Brian Eno in the 70s. He’s got her all worked out -haircut and everything. But that’s another matter entirely!

5 out of 5 stars The best Southern Rock band ever.......2007-03-05

These two albums from ARS prove that they were the best of the Southern Rock bands of the Seventies. It is a shame that they never got the recognition they so truly deserve.

5 out of 5 stars Serious guitar picken from one of Southern Rocks best.......2006-11-19

This two album CD features outstanding material from one of Southern Rocks best bands. Atlanta Rythm Section was a great band because of their line up of highly sought after and very accomplished studio musicians. Lead singer Ronnie Hammond delivers his signiture high quality vocals on these well written tunes and he has one of the best pure voices from the south. Lets face it though. Why do most peaople enjoy Southern Rock? Its the guitars baby and thats where these guys shine. The guitar duo of Barry Baily and J.R. Cobb are not easily beat by any band. Every song on these offerings is full of the serious "Southern Picken" guitar that made this Rock genre famous. These albums should be in the collection of any fan of Rock guitar.

5 out of 5 stars Red Tape Rocks.......2006-08-21

An excellant reissue! Tons of great songs. The Atlanta Rhythm Section was at their peak with Red Tape. You can't go wrong with this 2 album CD.

5 out of 5 stars atlanta rocks out.......2006-03-09

One of their best. Will not be disappointed for sure. Ronnie's voice is sultry and smooth. I like that they have combined two awesome cd's into one pleasing cd. This cd is a must for any fan. What i liked about it, was that all of the songs had a different feel to it. It had fast, get you moving songs but then it had sensual, soft melodies as well. I love it!

4 out of 5 stars outstanding twofer.......2005-10-26

If the ABB was the band of the new south and it's hopes and dreams and Skynyrd was Bubba's band, the Atlanta Rhythm Section was the thinking mans Southern band. Albums full of smart tunes, an eye for detail and killer musicianship, these guys have been the most underrated southern band since their first days.

These two albums were pivotal in the bands development. Dog Days reflected the south they lived, in the musical forms they loved and the bands joy at making music. Songs such as the title tune, Boogie Smoogie Cuban Crisis and Crazy are just blinders and All Night Rain has been one of my favorite rainy night romance songs for 30 years.

Red tape opens with Jukin' which interpolates Bob Wills San Antonio Rose into the solo. Mixed Emotions musically points toward the success of the next record's So Into You, Free Spirit examines relationships in context of social change and Another Man's Woman just ought to be illegal its so good.

These CD's have been unavailable for a long time so get them before they go away again.

    2 out of 5 stars not horrible...but why bother?.......2006-01-30

I gave this ONE listen and I don't think I'll ever touch it again. This is insulting...even for Roadrunner Records. While I admit it could be alot worse, the bottom line is WHY BOTHER?!? This review is just my opinion and the majority of reviewers for this title seem to think it's pretty good but I would definitely suggest listening to the samples before you purchase this one, otherwise you might be extremely dissapointed.

    3 out of 5 stars Not Bad.......2004-08-31

Coming from a background that includes a lot of hardcore punk, it's hard for me to rave about this album. Not that it's bad. It's fairly good, especially for a proper debut. But it's nothing I haven't heard before. The songs are sure to excite those who like a good mosh album and incite those who like political lyrics. While they lack the great guitar work of a band like Black Flag or the melodies of a band like Bad Religion, they do a nice job of running a middle ground between the two. They also threw in some heavier, more metal elements to a couple of songs. My only big complaint was that their lyrics were hard to make out at times and what I did hear sounded like it was a bit general. My advice to them would be to sharpen up the lyrics and add some diversity to the song structures. Otherwise, this is an above average debut from a band who could be around for a while.

    5 out of 5 stars excellent.......2004-03-11

This CD is one of the best punk albums I've bought in a while. The musical quality is just astounding. Amazing guitar harmonies and insightful (although a tad repetitive) political messages. These guys are like a much heavier version of bad religion or anti flag. Some of the songs sound fairly similar, but that is only a minor setback. There are also some crazy bass lines throughout, particularly at the beginning of the standout track "stalingrad". Semi-generic vocalist, but once again, the musical quality more than makes up for this and the lyrics are great, even if the style isn't so great. Awesome CD

    5 out of 5 stars Beyond words.......2004-02-11

I... hm... for dramatic influence I will draw this review out. THIS ALBUM IS THE SH*T! EVERY track on here is GOLD. I can't think of a single song on here that even whisped mediocre. I LOVE IT! From start to finish this cd rocks! This cd is comparable in revolution of sound to Refused's "The Shape of Punk to Come", At the Drive In's "Relationship of Command", Snapcase's "End Transmission", Hole's "Live Through This", Radiohead's "OK Computer", Pink Floyd's "The Wall", Nirvana's "Nevermind", The Dillinger Escape Plan's "Calculating Infinity", Tool's "AEnima", Nora, Vision of Disorder, Killing Joke's new s/t, NIN "The Downward Spiral", Faith no More's "The Real Thing", Pearl Jam's "VS", Quicksand's "Slip" Planes Mistaken for Stars and Give Up the Ghost: ANYTHING that shattered the way I looked at music is here and this cd will undoubtedly be in my player for a LONG time. This cd makes you want to get up and shake your fu**ing as*! Though this band may not go platinum they deserve to; and I'm not exaggerating in the least bit: THIS CD KILLS! It's sound is much like a mix of post, and oldschool hardcore with punk elements (not crap punk). Think Black Flag/Minor Threat mixed with Inside Out/Sick of it All mixed with Killswitch Engage/Poison the Well and hell; even some Christiansen and Beastie Boys if you want to get down to it. It's very short time-wise but you will NOT regret letting your ears feast on this. Hats off to Roadrunner for picking up such a unique band.

5 out of 5 stars The Boys From Doraville.......2006-01-24

This is THE BEST album these guys ever put out,way back in 1976,before all the "hits" came.Ronnie Hammond's vocals soared throughout and Barry Bailey's and JR Cobb's guitars meshed as though they were one.Every song on here is strong---no filler at all. From straight-on rockers(Jukin' and Mixed Emotions) to laid-back ballads(Beautiful Dreamers) to all-out blues/boogie stompers(Another Man's Woman). This was the ARS at their finest.

    3 out of 5 stars Red Tape.......2004-01-04

This album is good. This band is wondeful so all ARS CDs are good but not a Colections. I have one ARS Colection its 1 star. If you want this album its very rere so you can't find it in the stores.

4 out of 5 stars Hard-edged and hard to find.......2003-09-12

Before ARS became a mainstream pop band in the late 70s, they released "Red Tape". It's out of print and hard to find, but worth the effort if you're a fan. You will certainly recognize Ronnie Hammond's smooth vocals, Dean Daughtry's keyboards and producer Buddy Buie's way of doing things, but this album has some rawer cuts that might surprise some casual fans. The track that best explains that is "Another Man's Woman", an almost 10-minute exercise in pure guitar power, highlighted by Paul Goddard's incredible bass solo (this was played frequently by a guy on my dorm floor back in college, who turned me on to the band) Other good tracks are "Jukin" and "Oh What a Feeling". So if you are a die-hard ARS fan, do what it takes to get this CD and play it loud.

5 out of 5 stars Hide the fine china and crank this up.......2000-01-28

This remains my favorite of the many ARS albums released over the years. It really cooks. This Iowa boy echoes the sentiments of the fans from Georgia and South Carolina. Great songs, great singing, great playing. (The only sour note for me is that both the original CD I ordered and this replacement copy I'm now listening to are badly distorted 15 seconds into "Jukin." Lasts but a second or two, but it's a real drag. Maybe those guys at Malibu should've used the original master tapes.) But folks, what the band members themselves laid down is without question some of the best Southern rock ever recorded for posterity. I was in my early 20s when this album was released in '76, and I had to wait a long time for the CD of it to come out. It was worth the wait. I can tell you, if you dig the Allmans, the Outlaws, Lynyrd Skynyrd and Marshall Tucker, then do yourself a favor and order this CD. And whatever you do, play it loud. Give those expensive speakers of yours a workout.

4 out of 5 stars The album that captured ARS' live sound on vinyl.......1999-05-22

"Red Tape," originally released in April 1976, was the ARS album that fell between the studio masterpiece "Dog Days," and "A Rock and Roll Alternative," their commercial breakthrough. It sounds like a postcard from the road, and though it is probably best-known for the "Another Man's Woman," the album contains some of ARS' best guitar-driven songs. The album contains two regional hits, "Jukin'" and the magnificent "Free Spirit," but it also features two blues stompers in "Mixed Emotions" and "Shanghaied," which are built on the twin signatures of the ARS sound: Barry Bailey's snarling lead guitar, and Ronnie Hammond's vocals. "Mixed Emotions" and "Shanghaied" are both built around Bailey's riffing, with J.R. Cobb's slide guitar; Hammond's vocal on both songs is both smooth and dangerous ... wiping away tears of sorrow and at the same time stomping his boots through the floor. The sound of the album on this reissue is fabulous, especially the bass playing of Paul Goddard, a true innovator whose rock solid rhythms combined with genuine melodic instincts made ARS' sound complete. Coming after "Dog Days," which was a dazzling collection of songs in many different styles, the leaner and harder sound of Red Tape captured the ARS live sound, which had not been much in evidence on their previous albums. An essential part of ARS' body of recorded work.

      Album Description

Formed in 1988, New Age Records is one of the longest running hardcore punk labels in Southern California. Giving the start to bands like Unbroken, Lifetime, Mouthpiece, Turning Point, Outspoken and Strife in the early and mid 90's. In the late 90's they slowed things down a bit, focusing more on individual projects and begining to produce independent films. Their first film 42K has rally rocked the indie film work. Bringing us up to date. New Age came into the new milenium with 4 new bands A18, Countervail, Insurgence and Red Tape. Plus with more films on the way. New Age Records continues to brake the mold of what and Independent record label/film production company can be.

      5 out of 5 stars Great ... album.......2004-01-13

Man; I must say it's been a while since a GOOD punk (whatever) album came out. The albums you have before you are not punk. Dag Nasty is punk, Black Flag and Minor Threat are punk. Think of that mixed with Sick of it All, Beastie Boys, Inside Out and even some post hardcore and you have this. It's true: punk is dead; but this band isn't exactly punk. It's jammin. The best way to describe it. It's fun, fast, heavy and different change of pace in this time when all you kids wear those tight shirts, women's jeans, studded belts and "screamotianal" tendencies. Great band and a spoon of something new, but sure to attract the old too. Plus they're from my original hometown.

A special Christmas program combining familiar Christmas music with other less commonly heard favorites and a fun, unusual version of Rudolph, The Red-Nosed Reindeer sung in Latin(!). The choir is exceptional, and combined with the typical excellent Direct-to- Tape sound, makes a Christmas album that rises "above the crowd".
