About the Artist
Straight Up & Dirty has all the signatures of a DJ Nasir live set. Ranging in musical styles from 60's R'n'B, funky breakbeats, house, two step and jungle, all seamlessly mixed to keep the party and drinks flowing.

Product Description
Release number ten from Sweet Mother Records/Neverstop continues with the successful Standard Sounds series which is inspired by the music and ambience of the Standard Hotel in West Hollywood, California. Straight Up & Dirty takes its cues from the bar that recently opened at the hotel. DJ Nasir takes you through a funky musical journey with an ultra-rare UFO remix of the classic Jackson Five's "Hum Along and Dance", Aretha Franklin's "Rock Steady" and MJ Cole two step rendition of De La Soul and Chaka Khan's "All Good". The CD also contains an exclusive remix of Mystic's "The Life" produced by DJ Nasir himself. Deelite's Lady Miss Kier also contributes to the cause with an exclusive track which is aptly titled "I'm Not Staying At Home".

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars this is still an awesome album.......2006-02-24

I have been listening to this album since it was first released (2002?)- it's on my ipod favorite list. Great for dinner party background music or for a little cocktail party - still great after all this time...everyone asks what is this? Sort of like the Hotel Costes series.

5 out of 5 stars Standard Issue.......2003-04-04

What a mix, not the actual act, but the varied musical styles. Its starts from Jackson Five and does not stop till you get enough. I do not care if this not mixed or any other dj tricks are played with it, i actually prefer my compilations like that, so you can play it at parties. This is a great benchmark compilation cd, as it shows how compilation should be, mixed with varied styles, old and the new and Funky as all hell.

3 out of 5 stars More compiling than mixing.......2002-11-11

Nasir is a talented selecta, but I give this 3 stars because the mixing is almost nonexistent. Nearly every track drops into the next without any blending, so it sounds more like good radio than good DJing. I don't think the tracks were arranged in a particularly brilliant order either, so the general effect is sort of the musical equivalent of name-dropping.

I would recommend this if you want to rip some of the specific tracks. Because there's almost no mixing, most tracks remain discrete from one another. That said, there are some really good cuts. Just don't expect to throw this on at a party and expect to create any kind of lasting flow.

5 out of 5 stars 2 words... lady kier.......2002-05-16

the only reason for me buying this cd was to hear the new single by lady kier ((the deee-liteful diva)) - if you're a deee-lite freak, you'll love this song! it's worth buying the entire cd. ;)
