5 out of 5 stars David Tibet's tallent shines on.......2001-05-02

This was the first album that I have ever listened to of Current 93, after Mr. Tibet left Psychic TV many years back. I was amazed dazzled and a little frightened by the chilling vocals that Douglas P. (Death In June) and Rose McDowell (Strawberry Switchblade) offer. This album is a live album that was recorded in Tokyo in 1988. The production is not the greatest out there, though it adds to the overall air of the album. It opens with "Panzer Ruin" which is actually a studio reworking of the song from "Swastikas For Noddy". Then it moves on to "That's All, Folks" and "Invocation". "Summer of Love" is not only hilarious to hear in such a way, but opens to a frightning air. Not to mention the fact that it is not listed on the track list so is a definate suprise. "Happy Birthday" is next which is a spoof on the Christmas carol "Silent Night". Next are my two favorite tracks on this album, "Black Flowers Please" and "Oh Coal Black Smith". On BFP, McDowells calming voice is soon replaced by the daunting scratch of Tibet's vocals as they outline a witch's plight. OCBS is a terrifying traditional song that outlines a young womans attempts to flee an over powering man. This particular tune has haunted me for years and I often feel myself slipping into another reality or deep into insanity as I listen to it. "Farewell; The Birds Have Stopped Singing" is the last song on the album and offers beautiful closure to it. This album is a must have for all serious Current 93 fans as well as aspiring members of the Final Church of the Noddy Apocolypse.

4 out of 5 stars More live C93.......1998-07-18

This EP features live tracks from the "Swastikas for Noddy/Goddy" era plus a remix of "Panzer Ruin" (also on "Crooked Crosses"). The performances are wonderful and spirited, but the sound quality is somewhat lacking.
