Editorial Reviews
In the intimate settings of small Boston clubs, the house heads of the East Coast were introduced and quickly addicted to the alluring sounds of the soft spoken but magnetic Pete Moss. Morning sets at legendary East Coast events such as the IT parties brought his soulful style of house out of the clubs and thereafter it seemed dawn could not break at a massive without him.
Following his humble beginnings providing soundtracks for sunrises up and down the East Coast, Pete Moss settled himself down in Philadelphia, a city with a warm reception to the soulful sounds of his selections. He focused intently on production and gained encouragement and inspiration form the musical clan that existed there which included the likes of King Britt, Josh Wink, and the whole Ovum cast & crew.
Petes early tracks were distinctive, a break from traditional house & garage but still deep house, heavier drums. His early works were landmark releases for labels such as Siesta, Earthtones (now called Seasons), and his own Recline Records. His sound thrust these labels and his name into the limelight by coining a sound that not only did well in the house haven that is Europe, but also buttered up dance floors in the reluctant United States. His present releases are staples for the community that no self respecting DJ would be caught without.
Sometime between going deep at Centro Fly NY and rockin out at Terraza in Barcelona he has amazingly finished an album for Omid 16bs Alola label.

A Chorus Line may be better known, but Dreamgirls was a towering achievement for director Michael Bennett. Loosely based on the Supremes' story, the 1982 musical told a typical show-biz tale of fame, backbiting, and survival. As is often the case for one-night only events, the cast in this concert version (recorded in New York on September 24, 2001) is led by an eye-popping assortment of Broadway powerhouses: Lillias White (The Life), Audra McDonald (Ragtime, Marie Christine), and Heather Headley (Ragtime). McDonald reveals a previously undisclosed comic streak, while Headley confirms her status as a rising star. Reprising the role of Effie Melody White (created by Jennifer Holliday), White belts the classic "And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going." But the beauty of Dreamgirls is that it's so packed with catchy, Motown-influenced R&B numbers that each lead can sink her teeth into some prime material and get a turn in the spotlight. This double-CD set really makes you wish you'd been there when the show was recorded: you can hear the crowd going berserk at times, and the temptation is strong to do the same thing in the comfort of your living room. --Elisabeth VincentelliCustomer Reviews:

Not the real "DREAM" experience.......2007-04-04
Forget about the film sountrack. Get this CD set. And it's far better than the original cast recording which goes lacking. More songs and more everything that makes a live performance just what it is. Live (compared to film where anything can be done to enhance a performance!) -- the energy, the excitement and the performances make this a rare treat for anyone wanting to share in the real DREAM experience.
Isn't a full Broadway revival long over due. But wait: I've heard rumors that a rvial may be "in the works. I certainly hope so. Maybe this time it will receive the Tony award it deserved in the first place.

Pure beauty.......2005-09-06
The result: "Pure," an album that is reminiscent of early Sarah Brightman, back when she did folk songs and showtunes. Westenra sticks close to her classical sound with songs like the delicate "In Trutina" and the traditional New Zealand song "Pokarekare Ana," which is rendered with the backing of a a rather muddled male chorus and some swelling strings.
However, Westenra doesn't neglect more modern songs, and she does well in classical pop as well as straightforward classical. The big difference seems to be a bit of synth and a delicate guitar melody, in songs like the charming "Beat of Your Heart" and dreamy "Why Painted the Moon Black?" It's a smooth, thoroughly sweet crossover effect.
Westenra also eschews the usual round of classical-pop songs, like "Nella Fantasia." I love that song, but it's been done so many times. Instead, she opts for Maori lullabies, Vivaldi ballads, the neglected "Mummer's Dance" and the orchestral cathedral grandeur of "Benedictus." She even covers Kate Bush's "Wuthering Heights," adding a modern feel to the finale.
That is not to say that every choice is an excellent one. "Wuthering Heights" has Westenra trying to sound more Bush-ian, while "Amazing Grace" is too simple vocally. Aside from those, her choices of song are excellent -- rich, uplifting and beautiful, and backed by a wide range of orchestral musicians, especially the strings.
There is also an accompanying EP, in which Westenra covers four Christmas ballads, and does them all justice. Her vocals are well suited to the dignified lyrics of songs like "The Mummer's Dance" and "Silent Night," although a bit less for the still-lovely "Mary Did You Know" and "Away in a Manger."
Her vocals themselves are not operatic, but they are strong, clear and sweet, without pretensions or dramatic flourishes. The effect is stunning, more given to magic and sweetness than to keeping to classical standards. Since this was recorded when Westenra was only sixteen, one wonders how good she'll be in ten years.
Despite comparisons to Charlotte Church, Hayley Westenra is more like Sarah Brightman -- a sweet-voiced singer, straddling the fence between classical and pop. An enchanting experience.

Disney's Snow White, the world's first animated musical feature (1937), is still a standard in the industry. Though 1930s recording technology was primitive by today's standards, the Disney music studios have always used the available technology to its fullest, and this recording still stands up. The mature but hauntingly childlike Adriana Caselotti as Snow White is a unique vocal presence, and the songs include "Whistle While You Work," "Heigh-Ho," and "Some Day My Prince Will Come." The score is nearly as great an accomplishment as the film itself. --John SanchezCustomer Reviews:

One Song.......2006-02-19
Anyway another reason for me purchasing this album was the main titles for the film I love the ochestration. My favourite song on this album would have to be One Song followed by with A Smile and a Song.
And number 5 (a piece of music) I can't remember what it's called but it is creepy too the part that has snow white running through the woods.
Someday my prince will come is nice too. Adriana's voice is a little high and annoying sometimes though. But it's still nice to listen to. I listen to this album alot it's very nice and I like to listen to the version of One Song that is played at the end of the movie.
good soundtrack for halloween.......2005-07-14
Queen:(laughing)it's not for you, it's for snow white
anyways, bye-bye
REMasterpiece!.......2003-01-21
In the liner notes I read the original soundtrack only consisted of five songs, the five songs we hear sung in the film. "One song/I'm Wishing", "Hi Ho", "The Yodeling Song", "Some day my prince will come", and "Whistle while you work". Over the years, the instrumental musical score was thrown in to create a wonderful masterpiece of a soundtrack.
I highly recommend purchasing this. If you like the music from the movie, you will love this. After hearing this for the first time(I've now heard it at least 100, thanks to my 2 yr. old), the movie is brought out to be more of a musical adventure as well as a wonderful story to be told.
This is my son's favorite c.d., and he has so much fun dancing and singing along.
A Magical, Delightful Soundtrack.......2002-10-07

The Most Beautiful Recorded Tenor Voice?.......2005-06-22
My claim is easy to test. This website has CDs with excerpts for listening to the best tenors of the 20th century, including Enrico Caruso, John McCormack, Giovanni Martinelli, Beniamino Gigli, Tito Schipa, Richard Tauber, Richard Crooks, Jussi Bjoerling, Morton Downey, Mario Lanza, Giuseppe di Stefano, Nicolai Gedda, Jan Peerce, Leopold Simoneau, Fritz Wunderlich, Luciano Pavarotti, Placido Domingo and Jose Carreras. Of course, the earlier the career, the greater the damage to the recorded voice from primitive technology. Heard live, who knows which voice was most beautiful? But at least we have what earlier centuries could only imagine: lasting copies of live performances. Listen to Kenny Baker's voice on tracks 2 and 8 of BABES IN TOYLAND, and then compare.
The numbers from THE RED MILL will make you want to hear more. This operetta, also composed by Victor Herbert, was first produced in 1906, three years after BABES IN TOYLAND. "Moonbeams" (well sung by Eileen Farrell) is lovely; "Because You're You" (a duet between Farrell and Felix Knight) is quite simple but surprisingly affecting. The last two are the best: "Every Day Is Ladies' Day with Me," and "In Old New York." They are patter songs, perhaps inspired by, and surely as deft, as the ones that Gilbert and Sullivan were writing two decades earlier. Both are sung by Wilbur Evans, in a rich baritone, with perfect enunciation and marvelous comic flair. Great fun!
The selections on this CD were recorded in 1944 and 1945, then released in 1946 on both 78s and 10" LPs. For this CD, they were remastered from wartime lacquered-glass originals. Baker and Evans emerge in radiant form, surely much closer to live sound than reached our family radio via AM transmission 65 years ago. The orchestral and choral sound is less attractive. Poorly miked?
Very, very truncated........2002-12-09
incomplete pleasure.......2002-11-09
John McGlinn will be out with a complete BABES soon - and there is a lot of music in it - so you may want to wait.

The six selections form THE RED MILL offer a nice bonus, and the selections are well sung.

Album Description
Evelyn Ryan (Julianne Moore) is a devoted housewife and mother of ten in the 1950s. Her husband (Woody Harrelson) can't seem to make ends meet, but that doesn't stop the car from breaking down, the mortgage coming due and the bills from piling up. It falls to Evelyn to defy the conventions of the day and find a way to keep her family together with the odds stacked against them. Applying her remarkable resourcefulness and an uncommon wit, Evelyn finds her own way in the profitable jingle contests popular in the 1950s and'60s.Composer John Frizzell adds his own sophisticated sound to the compositions and brings on two great musicians - Sara and Sean Watkins - to play fiddle and guitar. The Soundtrack includes recordings by The Ames Brothers, Les Paul & Mary Ford, Dee Carstensen, Kay Starr and new recordings by k.d. lang "I'm Sitting on top of the World" and the film's Woody Harrelson.

Let's get this out of the way: How many versions of "The Surrey with the Fringe on Top" or "Can't Help Lovin' that Man of Mine" do we really need? Christine Ebersole is such a gifted interpreter that it would have been nice to get a more daring selection from her. That said, this CD does provide an excellent opportunity to hear her sail through some beloved classics. After opening with a delicately swinging version of "Fine and Dandy" that evokes Anita O'Day's (no small compliment, as amateurs of jazz vocals know), Ebersole proceeds to playfully tip-toe her way through standards. While she does very well on melancholy numbers such as the Oscar Hammerstein-Jerome Kern collaboration "The Folks Who Live on the Hill" (introduced by Irene Dunne in the 1937 movie High, Wide, and Handsome), she is at her absolute best on with the sassier, slinkier material (Dorothy Fields and Cy Coleman's "Baby, Dream Your Dream" is particularly lovely). Backed by Billy Stritch on piano and vocals (he solos on "We're in the Money") and David Finck on standup bass, Ebersole confirms she's among cabaret's most appealing performers. --Elisabeth VincentelliDescription
