Taken from the primo party starter You've Come a Long Way, Baby, Fatboy Slim's "Praise You" is based on a vocal and piano sample from Camille Yarbrough. The sample has a distinctively gospel-influenced, "churchy" flavor, and singer and children's book author Yarbrough's infectious voice is the focus of the song throughout. (Listeners who wish to hear the original tune, "Take Yo' Praise," can find it on the compilation Loose & Juicy.) "Praise You" is much more than its parts: the vocal sample; the baggy, Happy Mondays-ish chord progression; the subtly built-up crescendo; and the delirious combination of early-'70s, mid-'80s, and early-'90s flourishes. These retro sounds curiously blend to create a modern sound. Completists will enjoy the previously unreleased "Sho Nuff," a whimsical track reminiscent of Mike Paradinas's Gary Moscheles recording, with the exception that the rhythms are decidedly less complex--why do you think they call it "big beat"? The third and final tune is "Mulder's Urban Takeover Mix" of Slim's 1998 hit "The Rockafeller Skank," a stripped-down and silly mix that's notably the first time another artist has remixed a Fatboy Slim tune. --Mike McGonigal

The McClurkins take the adage "it runs in the family" to an extreme, don't they? With four sisters and one brother all over gospel music, one can only imagine where they would go after an outstanding debut of The McClurkin Project in 2000. Seven years and a mountain of work between them, sisters Andrea, Olivia, Cheri, Tanya, and close friend Carol Carter are back with brother Donnie in the wonderfully rewarding We Praise You. The McClurkins waste no time in laying down the hot groove with the Andrea-penned title track, a more traditional Gospel call-and-answer track livened up by a super backing band in front of a live crowd in Queens, New York. Sister Olivia capably takes up the reins with the R&B-infused, be-boppin' "You Are An Awesome God." The ultimate highlight has to be the Donnie-led "As Long As There's You," a warm and moving worship number. Donnie offers plenty of vocal pyrotechnics here while the McClurkin Sisters keep the harmonies and melodies flowing beautifully underneath. It's a show-stopper for sure. Other great moments include "His Mercy," a testimonial buoyed by the sisters' well-mixed vocal parts and the closing "Song of Gratitude," which has the sisters sounding like an angelic choir. Brother Donnie and Stanley Brown should be commended for tasteful production that keeps voices front and center in a silky smooth blend. All in all, We Praise You is a sweet-sounding bounty of Gospel praise that makes us all hope we don't have to wait seven more years for the McClurkins' next collective effort. --Michael LyttleCustomer Reviews:

The greatest songs ever?.......2007-07-26
Please buy it.
A musical treasure-box.......2006-09-10
The First, Second, Third and Fourth Bookes of Songes, A Musicall Banquet, the keyboard transcriptions, all the lute music, consort music are here and virtually everything else written or supposedly written by John Dowland. Anthony Rooley and The Consort of Musicke perform this music with style and feeling throughout. This 12 CD set is something of a monument to the ensemble - I only wish they'd finished their collection of Monteverdi madrigals, which was equally good (La Venexiana are currently doing a magnificent job of recording all Monteverdi's books of madrigals for the GLOSSA label).
This is an expensive set, however, you will probably never need to buy another John Dowland CD again after buying and listening to this collection.
I bought this CD set on a mild Summer evening of 1998 and listened to it while sitting in my sun room - which a glorious orange sunset in progress, and a glass of wine. It brought back so many memories.
a beautiful journey into melancholy.......2001-06-15
Dowland, a contemporary of Shakespeare, discovered that meditating on a sad theme is, at the same time, a way of discovering a special beauty that we tend to avoid (maybe because of the "tragic" heritage of the Romantics). So, in the end, meditating on sadness is an uplifting experience! This box set is a journey into melancholy that includes songs, chamber music, pieces for lute, some rare sacred music and -as a highlight- Dowland's beautiful collection of seven pieces for viola which he called "Lachrimae" (Tears).

Sheila Walsh: Good all around CD.......2007-02-19
This is a thought provoking CD with a lot of great songs. I wish Sheila would choose songs that make her voice sound good and not just good songs.
All in all it is a good all around CD to listen to when you are resting, and when you are in a contemplative mood.
Inspiring!.......2007-01-04
This CD Touches My Heart.......2006-03-13
As a fan of Sheila Walsh, I'm a little disappointed with this release.......2005-08-19
The entire recording consists of popular inspirational and praise and worship songs and one hymn medley ("My Faith Looks Up To Thee/Holy Holy Holy Lord God Almighty"). The problem is that the songs are not that distinct.
A couple of notable exceptions are the Twila Paris song "God Is In Control," which has lyrics that are especially relevant for today, and "Amazed." Jerry McPherson adds tasteful guitar licks on the first song, as he does throughout the recording, and pedal steel guitar, which is also part of the mix, doesn't sound any better than on "Amazed." Sheila really makes these songs her own and gets great backing vocals.
Unfortunately many of the other songs are just good versions of the originals. If you already have them, there's not a strong reason to buy this record.
Not too long ago I read that part of one person's wish-list was a longing for the old Sheila Walsh. While I might wish for the same with some qualifications-I have no desire for the spiked hair, rock days-I would like to see her do more along the lines of the delightful British-pop on "Again and Again (You Are)," heard on Love Falls Down. That recording along with Hope and Blue Waters are better choices if you want to experience Sheila Walsh at her best.
It's also a little misleading that this is advertised on the back cover as having "captivating Celtic melodies reflecting the Scottish homeland of her childhood." The only obvious Celtic sound is heard on the title song "You Raise Me Up." Hope and Blue Waters are much more Celtic.
There's no denying that Sheila Walsh has a powerful testimony and is incredibly talented. She speaks and sings at Women of Faith Conferences, writes books, is the former co-host of the 700 Club, and knows how to connect with people.
She is able to do that because she has a tender heart, which comes through in her music. "You Raise Me Up" is a good collection of songs, and it probably does reflect her feelings to some degree, but it falls short because it's mostly familiar.
Sometimes I think the modern trend of praise and worship music has stifled creativity. Many of the songs are simple and repetitive. There's not as much depth musically and lyrically. It seems that for some time now, the same songs keep getting repackaged. At the very least, I would like to see mostly new songs on praise and worship recordings. I appreciate artists like Chris Tomlin, Hillsong and others who labor toward that end.
I guess I too would like to see a little of the old Sheila Walsh. One of her older recordings had a great song called, "Angels With Dirty Faces." It had thoughtful and compelling words and music. We could use more articulate and captivating expressions of faith. Songs dealing with more complex music and themes are just as valid as "praise and worship" and can also connect people with God.
Sheila Walsh has been through a lot and come out the other side. I hope that in the future her songs will reflect a little more of what she is seeing at a given point in time. I would like to see a batch of new songs like "Again And Again," and "Angels With Dirty Faces." I could go for a recording like that.

Wonderful, Amazing songs of Praise to the LORD of LORD's.......2006-04-27
As a Christian and a believer of our LORD JESUS CHRIST, it's an amazing experience to watch Don's concerts, as it really touches the heart of the listener, and that experience is far beyond words, so amazing.., thank you LORD.
Thank you Don for obeying the word of the Almighty GOD.., Thank you for sharing the love of our LORD JESUS through your songs and praise of worship.
May GOD bless you
** If you are a Christian or a gospel song lover, this is a MUST.

Another melodic winner.......2004-10-11
But he doesn't do his thing for respect, of course. And he's amazingly consistent.
Thank You Lord is the follow-up to I Will Sing, a brilliant live-in-concert worship recording that isn't easy to follow up. But Moen manages to pull it off with his usual smooth vocals and very strong pop arrangements. True, the guy goes to the well too often with dramatic change-of-key climaxes to his songs...that tends to dilute their power a bit...but the songs are so well crafted you can't help but come to a worshipful place.
For me, the standouts are the title track (it's brought me near tears a few times) and This Is Your House. Both should find a place in any church willing to look beyond the Matt Redmans and Chris Tomlins of this world.

Hillsong Rocks.......2005-08-04
I love the very first song, which is the title song "For All You've Done".I have heard a version from the Lakewood Church, but i think Hillsong have a unique sound.
I have become a fan of them since becoming a Christian in November 2004.I havnt actualy been to the conference as this is a Sydney thing, and i live in Melbourne. But one time around i am sure to go.
I love it when the play a fast song and the crown jump around and stuff, looks cool.
The second song is "One Way",and that song has a very catchy tune and is very well known. Its a great song and i enjoy the next song as well "Evermore".This song gets sorta addictive, and is a definite fav of mine.
Next is "With All I Am",slower but a very good song.
I love the next song "Sing",another slow one but its another realy good song also.
"Hallelujah",is another fav of mine from the CD,this is a long song but is a good one.
I like the whole cd cant pick a bad song here, and its consistently good.
Great Worship CD.......2005-08-02

Long a favorite of amateur choristers, John Rutter's three-movement Gloria is by turns touching and thrilling, alternating soaring vocal lines with contemporary harmonies, catchy rhythms, and the power of the Phillip Jones Brass Ensemble. The premiere recording, with Rutter himself conducting his Cambridge Singers, is filled out with 10 of his short anthems, including the sprightly "O Clap Your Hands," the serenely beautiful "A Gaelic Blessing," and "The Lord Is My Shepherd" movement from his Requiem. --David HoriuchiAlbum Description
Gloria: The sacred music of John Rutter. Contains the Gloria, a seventeen minute work that is one of our continous best sellers. Other titles are some of John Rutter's most popular anthems.Customer Reviews:
Glorious!.......2005-10-05
--Music--
The Gloria is a piece in three movements. The Philip Jones Brass Ensemble performs with the Cambridge Singers and soloists Mary Seers, Mary Hitch, and Caroline Ashton. This includes organ music and timpani/percussion. The Gloria is one of Rutter's earliest works, written as a commissioned piece for an American group (Voices of Mel Olson, Omaha, Nebraska). The three movements are reminiscent of standard symphonic structure. The outer movements are more boisterous ('make a joyful noise unto the Lord'), whereas the middle movement is more introspective and subdued.
The other pieces included here are anthems, bright and cheery, fully orchestrated and performed with spirit. There are three pieces that are a capella, reflecting Rutter's and the Cambridge Singers' passion for this medium.
--Liner Notes--
The notes include an introduction to the CD by Rutter describing some of the influences and expressions in his composition. Lyrics are included, and where the original is in Latin, an English translation is provided. There is no listing of the performers of the Cambridge Singers, no description of the group, nor biographical information about John Rutter.
--John Rutter--
Rutter was born in London and educated at Clare College, Cambridge. This was where his career as a composer, arranger and conductor began. His early work was with groups at King's College Chapel at Cambridge as well as the Bath Choir and Philharmonic Orchestra. He has worked for the BBC providing music for educational series such as 'The Archaeology of the Bible Lands', until in 1979 he began forming the Cambridge Singers, and has continued a remarkable career of performance and recording as their director ever since.
--The Cambridge Singers--
The Cambridge Singers are a mixed choir of voices, many of whom were members of choir of Rutter's college, Clare College, Cambridge. While they specialise in English and Latin liturgical pieces, they have a wide range of recordings that span from modern compositions (including a remarkable requiem by Rutter) to English folk songs of the Middle Ages. Many are former members of the choir of Clare College and other Cambridge collegiate choirs (hence the name, Cambridge Singers). In the quarter-century since the founding, the Cambridge Singers have produced an impressive body of recordings.
This is a glorious recording!
