Customer Reviews:
Hard on the ears.......2006-05-09
I bought these field recordings due to the Laswell connection.I found this cd hard to listen to.You get sounds with people talking in the background, some native music, some vocals, percussion and drones .Alot was unlistenable noise as if on a bus in a forign land and OZ recorded the sounds.Reminds me of the soundtrack to a National Geographic movie.
Around the World in an hour 52:40.......2005-07-22
Being appreciative of the work of Bill Laswell I am also by default familiar with the name Oz Fritz. This CD is a compilation of recordings Oz snagged in his travels with a Folkways/Smithsonian work ethic. The CD recording can actually be compared to the film "Baraka". It must be experienced to be fully realized. I am more than convinced this disc can transport your psyche and soul to regions you will never otherwise experience in this lifetime. It will require a certain degree of surrender and a commitment to allow the sounds to penetrate (many segments contain religious chanting and natural acoustics from sacred spaces), but you'll thank me later. Highly recommended for those who dare.
OZ, RAW AND READY THE ROAD TO THE WESTERN LANDS .......2004-09-01
Well To answer a question. When you have the album it is really an oz fritz record called all around the world, but as he states in the liner notes all of the recordings are the result of bill laswell music. The intention of the record is to record time it self and create an ambience of quantum time space rythm. The liner notes are very detailed to where the recordings are from, Notre Dame, to india, to autralia. If you are a primus fan you may have the antipop album and listened to "greet the sacred cow"
and heard the opening chanting monks, and a very religious kid, that is the opening track for this release. Oz is also credited for the recording of antipop at rancho relaxo. He is also almost always credited on laswells albums and live sound mixing.
The record is just simpelly raw recording from around the world, mixed together with other raw material but very ambient. Great for medatation or relazing atmospheres. I recomend this to spice up anyones record collection. Its even worth it for the awesome photoes and excelent liner notes. enjoy, dont be afraid
