5 out of 5 stars Essential. Timeless........2007-07-16

Along with KLF, Woob and Reload-Ambient greatest album ever made in ambient. Joey's effort is absolutely timeless it's sounds in 2007 like it was made yesterday. Buy it. Love it.

5 out of 5 stars Joey Beltram - AONOX - lucky if u find this cosmic jem .......2005-07-05

I first found this audio CD album in 1998, used in Reseda, California. The album art attracted me and then I saw it was composed by Joey Beltram, whom I was already a fan of for his hard tekno house machine music. Never would I thought he would be responsible for this album Aonox, because it is so different from EVERYTHING else I have ever heard from him. This is a world of feeling and landscape that has become familiar yet still alien to me. This is the kind of album that you give yourself to for an hour preferably with headphones lying down in darkness at night. A dark simplicity / lo-fi sound on some trax and others are twisting and ascending sonic tears over machine polyrhytms. There is more of an organic and analog feel than the current super clean digital electronica. This is one of my favorite albums of all time. Very rare album to come across. If u get a chance to hear or buy and you are a fan of any of the best ambient industrial / IDM / electronica such as early Aphex Twin, early Autechre, Bola, Boards of Canada, etc then u must check this one out. This album is beautiful, peaceful, mysterious, and can take you to a deep place somewhere.

CD is excellent, but vinyl is even more rare and exquisite, and comes on 2 discs with a gatefold cover sleeve, and album art in large format is nice to see. thx jb!

    Album Description

Joey Beltram is back with a new album.

To say "back" is not exactly correct because he is constantly working and recording, releasing tracks on Tresor, on other labels and of course on his own label STX since his last Tresor longplayer Places in 1996.

For Joey Beltram, making an album means taking the time he needs to create something he´s 100% happy with. "I´m not only pushing buttons. When I make music its an emotional thing", he says. And found in this work are his many emotions of 2004 transferred onto the CD and vinyl medium, to be carried straight to Techno and House home listeners and clubbers. All the tracks - whether they are more technoid or more housey - bring sexiness into electronic music that has definitely been missing for the last few years. This gave him the motivation to record a new album in the first place - and with success. The Rising Sun exudes incomparable freshness: hi-hats that take your body through techno storms and lash back with solid precision.

The New York legend has once again created a milestone in the electronic music spectrum, for the modern techno dancefloor.

Only one difference to the Places album: previously Beltram recorded tracks mainly with DJ tracks-for-vinyl in mind. New ideas, new emotions, and he has since then wrapped his experience into this artist album, structured for both vinyl and CD formats. The CD (that has 3 bonus tracks) is designed to get CD collectors tuning in at home, the rhythm loud between your ears so as to not miss any of the textured layers...

5 out of 5 stars Detroit Techno at best.......2001-06-26

Mechanical techno, pristinely recorded by New York veteran Joey Beltram. A minimal symphony of loud metallic pulses/drums infinitely going in and out of phase. Nothing distracts from the relentless rhythms, which despite their rigid structure, retain the humane warmth and deep funky soul that makes original Detroit techno so great. In the same genre as John Aquaviva, Richie Hawtin (Plastikman). One of Betram's better albums. Bonus tracks were poorly edited--end abruptly.

5 out of 5 stars What a nice mix for making some dance!.......1998-07-01

I recomend that stuff to all who want to make a good dancing. It is really great! I am very much in to acid and Joey Beltram is my most favorite musician. For guys who like good electronic music - Don't hesitate!

4 out of 5 stars Berlin by way of Chicago.......2005-05-10

"Places" showcases a stripped-down, Chicago house-inflected take on techno. A few leaden tracks sound dated, but swingier moments like "Instant" and "Floaters" remain potent today. Pure synth waveforms and clean machine drums form this collection of DJ tools.

4 out of 5 stars spacey, minimal, deep techno.......2002-11-14

beltram has been a guiding and originating force in the techno scene from it's inception (energy flash being one of the first techno dancefloor anthems for those oldschool enough to remember) this album finds mr. beltram working his craft on a collection of sparse, heady techno, showing off his finesse in the almost forgotten art of taking the listener on a mental "voyage" through the set. Although i say sparse, and minimal, it's not so much the absence of layers (indeed, there is a bit of layering here), but rather the way they come together, always just enough to fill each knob of the mixer without being "lush". the phrasing of the set works quite well, and the trim is outstanding in these tracks. This can be considered nothing but pure techno...

4 out of 5 stars raw banging techno...kiddies and ravers look somewhere else.......2002-03-19

this is what i'd like to think of as "pure" techno. along with early jeff mills and robert hood's "internal empire" lp, this is definitely one of the best of it's style. some of the tracks are hard enough to scrape the enamel off you're teeth. repetitive as hell, but that comes with the territory. i was suprised to hear some dub-effects here and there, but mostly this focuses on acidy synths and machine like rhythyms. in fact, this is vaguely similar to the harder sides of house music and not quite as "smooth" sounding as most minimal, detroit styled techno.

This CD is amazing. Listening to Beltram tear up tracks like "Bringin The Funk" which was a played out massive track, and make it sound good a year after it was released amazes me. Technically, I wouldnt expect anything different from JB, his mixing skills (this CD was done live, not engineered for those who are used to those trashy Global Underground cds) are impecable and show is age in the scene. This is most definitely the house/tech cd to get... A djmelee.com favorite by far!

          Album Description

What would the techno world be without Joey Beltram? And the world is in his hands: touring internationally in 2004 and in 2005, promoting the album and leaving fans breathless in his wake. Tokyo remains as the ultimate evidence.

On November 19th, 2004 Beltram enthralled Tokyo fans at Womb with a detonating set of what he does best: mixing a set so commanding, so urgent, almost grandiose, in what could be described as fireworks techno. The crowd tells the tale and the background enthusiasm adds to the power and locomotive potential of this great electronic music artist. Seemlessly he links together tracks from his new album plus a yet unreleased track "The Inside"; also with works from Bryan Cox, Justin Berkovi, Thomas Krome, Cave, Bad Boy Bill, Pusher, and more.

If you've never experienced Joey Beltram live then this is the closest you could ever hope for. This not only authenticates his genius as a composer, producer and recording artist but also as one of the world's top techno DJ's - a true wizard in a technological world.
