Customer Reviews:
The first reason I watch That '70s Show!.......2004-02-13
I just want to say that this is music that transcends generations! It is great no matter what your age! I'm 18 and I love everything on this album (and a note to the other reviewers: I know what a 45 is!!! I have some!) Anyway, even though this music was a statement straight from the '70s, everyone will like it. It works in the present day, because good music is timeless. It's funky, and perfect for in the car, at a party, whatever! Personally, I think it is much better than the other '70s Show album (I like R&B better than the older rock). Anyway, I would especially recommend this album if you've never listened to any "older" music before and would like to get just one CD with the best stuff to see what it's like. This album is perfect for that! I hope you all buy this CD and enjoy it as much as I do! You won't be disappointed!
Music I grew up on.......2003-11-13
I do not own this CD, but I do watch the show and own CD's by all of the artist on it. The fact that it contains music by what I consider some of the greats, rates it a 5. I was born in 1972, and this is the type of music that played in our house from sun up to sun down. I have sons (10 and 11) who like rap, but have adopted my music style and prefer to listen to the likes of James Brown, Bobby Womack, Al Green (their favorite), Bootsy Collins, George Clinton, etc. They can even recognize when an old song has been sampled by a new artist.
And to the gentleman that posted the comment "ask your grandparents what a 45 is". I got my first component set (yes, I remember those)when I was 8. With it came four 45's and the little yellow disk you put in the center to make it fit. I am in my early 30's, but the music of the 70's still rates highly with me.
The Reason why "singles" were invented!.......2002-07-15
Now, that record companies (should they still be referred to as that?) are no longer in the business of releasing singles, focusing on an album of one-two "hits" and lackluster filler, it is great to recall a time when an artist was propelled by the strength of his/her 45 on the radio.
This compilation is not only a tribute to the Fox comedy, but to the music that so filled our lives in the 70's.
EVERY SONG IS A HIT, many showing some career highlight of the singer(s)featured.
I should know. I have them all as 45's.
If you don't know what a "45" is, ask one of your...Gulp!...GRANDPARENTS(???).
WE WANT THE FUNK! DO YOU?.......2000-05-03
One of the things that made the seventies a great decade was the music. Don't get me wrong; it wasn't all fun and games but people seemed to be freer and happier then. And a lot of the music of the time reflected that. There was a lot of schlocky stuff to deal with too. But looking back on it now over twenty years later the silly lighthearted stuff in endearing to me now. And I know I'm not the only one who feels that way. Just witness all the radio and television stations that are trying to recapture or cash in on the seventies nostalgia. As far as this cd is concerned I think they did a great job of picking out the music. Funk is the word of this disc. All good tunes here but "Rubberband Man" always annoyed me, even when it first came out. Minor complaint. Also, I think it would be very entertaining if they could throw in little sound bites and snippets from that 70's show itself. Even with the minor complaint I think they did a very good job. A cd most anyone would like. White or black. Hey, even white kids listen to funk...I can vouch for that myself! :)
This is a GREAT party CD.......2000-03-31
I grew up in the 70s and this CD brings back SO many memories. It's a great CD to blast when you're having a party or if you just want to celebrate being alive. You don't have to load 10 different CDs in your player and then program it. The best of the 70s on 1 CD.

jammin' in new york..........2006-01-06
George Carlin. I can't believe I've gone this long without listening to his material. Then again, I'm only 18. "Jammin' In New York" is great, funny, hilarious. I especially love his take on flying ("`Put the mask over your face and breath deeply'. Sure, I have no problem with that. I always breathe normally when I'm in a six-hundred mile an hour uncontrolled vertical dive") and experiences that bring us together ("You ever been talking to yourself and someone comes into the room and you have to make believe you were singing?"). It's coarse and it's fun.
Also check out Complaints and Grievances, You Are All Diseased, and Parental Advisory.
Another Carlin Masterpiece.......2003-05-25
Whether you see his performances on tape or DVD or if you listen to his material on CD, George Carlin is always on top of his game. He talks about whatever he wants without any fear, and he doesn't care who he offends. (In fact, if you ever told him that you were offended by his stuff, it'd only encourage him!) George Carlin's "Jammin' in New York" is a hilarious album that always keeps you on your toes.
On this dark and angry album you'll hear George talk about the Gulf War, little things we have in common, golf courses, airline announcements, eating disorders, more war stuff, environmentalists, and many more.
This is one of my favorite performances by him. He hits every note right and never leaves us with a dull or unfunny moment. Carlin dishes out the edgy and controversial material without hesitation. And it's also an album you can listen to over and over again. If you're easily offended by strong language, I'd recommend that you steer clear of this one. After all, this is Carlin we are talking about.
While seeing him do his performances is always better than just listening to it, "Jammin' in New York" is definitely an album to check out if you are a Carlin fan. His years in comedy really pays off and you do get the feeling that he seems to improve with every performance. Carlin will always remain a favorite of mine.
There may never be another George Carlin album like it........2002-12-17
I was never really into to stand up comedy until I was introduced to George Carlin. I have heard a lot of his stuff, but Jammin' in New York is, by far, the greatest and most well thought out poece of his work yet to date. It is one of the funniest HBO performances that he has ever done.
This man is not an "audioevangelist"..........2002-08-15
...you have to remember that. Evangelists tend to be voices of religions where it is expected to take every word of Scripture as the literal word of the Almighty. And when they preach, you're supposed to believe it all. I don't care what your attitudes and worldviews are--listen to just one Carlin disc and you are more than once going to hear somthing you strongly disagree with. That's because he's a humorist--part comedian and part philosopher--never completely one or the other. Carlin tends to knock government and the Church. Well, it's fashionable to strongly distrust government nowadays. And church congregations are shrinking and it's getting tougher every day to find "people of God". I could care less how trendy it is to use "government" as a four-letter word (GOVT)--any society needs government as a counterbalance to chaos. And belief in a god is a help to that. Why can't people just do as they like? Because some people like to do some pretty lousy things and it's naiive to claim they're never going to harm anyone else. I'm a churchgoer who votes rather than distorting Jefferson on the topic of overthrowing my government. You gonna call me naiive and a yes-man? I don't care--knock yourself out. Carlin takes a moderate advocacy stance on drugs. The problem with dope is that it's a "me" experience and it tends to create self-centered people. Not "free" people, self-centered. You got some creep that doesn't care about anyone else, when you meet him, he ain't gonna care about YOU. Political correctness? It would be awfully nice to think that there can be a basic plan in which people don't say rotten things to each other, but it's contrary to human nature. One of the earliest forms of human interaction is kids calling each other names, and we never 100% outgrow it. And those same kids who just might be better than average in outgrowing it are not going to succeed in force-evolving the rest of society. Like I said--human nature. I guess what it all boils down to is that when you listen to Carlin, don't expect to hear what you like as if he were an ideal political candidate. They ain't no sech animule. Anyone who seems like they are is manipulating you. If people would only realize that, there would be a lot fewer so-called "libertarians" who are really nothing but anarchists. If you don't like the incumbent, vote for the other guy. If you don't like an entertainer, there are other entertainers. But never, NEVER expect a "perfect 10"--ALWAYS take him at face value. That's why God invented cheering and booing--the same people do both at different points in the same performance. Carlin is brilliant sometimes and a real jerk some other times. It's best to allow for both eventualities. Like the glass that's either half empty or half full. What do they have in common? Both have water in them. That's what makes a Carlin album worth the price posted on this page.
Good One George.......2002-06-10
It may be ten years old now, but I thought that this was good stuff by Carlin - still relevant today.
It might be that I felt that this CD was so good because I bought it after I bought "You Are All Diseased" (which I thought was over-the-top and far too "angry" in places). Here, Carlin's satire is still sharp and well-observed. Of particular delight to me were the pieces on in-flight airline announcements, and (being a non-golfer) his take on how to make better use of the land taken up by golf courses.
I'm glad I bought it (and paid Amazon the Transatlantic shipment costs!)

Album Description
This 2-CD set contains two long out-of-print Eddie Condon recordings originally released by Columbia in the mid-1950s. "Jam Session" was his first on the Columbia label, and features four tracks (1-4) recorded by Condon in NYC, and six (5-10) recorded in Hollywood by The Rampart Street Paraders, a group of former Bob Crosby bandmates assembled by Paul Weston. "Jammin' At Condon's" was Condon's first "solo" LP for Columbia (the first album he did for them in which he didn't share the record with another act). The highlight of this album is the 13-minute rendition of "How Come You Do Me Like You Do."
Customer Reviews:
A Splendid Blend of East and West.......2007-03-03
To the best of my knowledge, this is the only CD available with the Rampart Street Paraders, a group of former Bob Crosby Bobcats, under the direction of Matty Matlock, which has made this format. Their LPs, often featuring Abe Lincoln on trombone, are classics and, although these LPs have not come over to CD's, this at least gives the jazz fan an idea of how good they were. Billy Butterfield is particularly outstanding on trumpet. What need we say about the Eddie Condon group? Long established as the best of the east, their arrangements are always spirited and solid. Do give this a listen!
the greatest dixieland ever !! .......2007-02-07
I had this in Vynil LP version some 50 years ago and thought I would never find it again so I copied it on CD. The new CD version is better though and I think it is the best Dixieland jam session ever recorded by champion Eddie Condon !!
Good Schtuff.......2006-08-17
Back in the mid fifties, the first recording I had ever heard of "Dixieland Music" (at that time I didn't know about Chicago-style Jazz)was Jammin' At Condon's. That began a life-long love affair with traditional jazz. It was wonderful to listen to this CD because the sound quality of the music is so much better than the original LP - which I had transferred to tape, cd, mp3, computer and iPod. I own dozens of TradJazz Cd's but this one is far and away the best.
Jam Session Coast to Coast - Eddie Condon.......2006-05-28
I purchased the original LP of this dual album in the 1950s when I served in the Air Force. It is the finest album of dixieland music I ever heard--and I heard a bunch of them. The quality of the recording (not the music--it was perfect) was not up to Columbia's standards. The needles would not track. But I taped it on reel-to-reel and still enjoyed it. I have kept the album intact for 50 years--hoping someday to find a tape recording of it. Then TODAY I discovered it was available on CD. I can't tell you how pleased I am. Tom Barnard
You can't go wrong listening to Eddie Condon.......2003-03-10
Eddie Condon's groups were always a fun-loving, free-swinging journey into Chicago/New York style dixieland. He always fronted the best possible players; Ed Hall, Cutty Cutshall, "wild Bill" Davidson, Billy Butterfield, Peanuts Hucko, Bud Freeman and when you listen to them you knew they were having fun. This "twofer", originally cut on two albums in '54 & '55 on Columbia, finally made his music available to the public on a national basis on a popular label. I remember buying "Jammin' at Condons" after only listening to the first cut, "There'll be some changes made". I just had to have this wonderful sound (no HI FI, Stereo, nor Surround Sound) to play on my RCA Victrola. I never regretted it and, if you've never heard Condon's bunch, you'll never regret picking up this CD. I guarantee it!

Israel Vibes Inna France.......2004-09-20
This is a live recording of Israel Vibration during their French tour in February of last year. Like all of their other recordings, this album serves up some quality roots reggae, starting off with the Roots Radics and ROCKFORT ROCK, a song that immediately puts you into a Rasta groove. This would be a 5 star album if it wasn't for the inconsiderate editing of the concert. It's pretty obvious that the concert was cut up into pieces, as the track listing constantly jumps from Skelly to Skelly to Skelly, and then to Wiss. Otherwise, this recording is excellent. Here, Israel Vibration provides you with some of their classic tunes, like COOL AND CALM, VULTURES, WHY WORRY, and THE SAME SONG. Newer tunes can also be heard on this album, like the jumpy JAMMIN and LEVEL EVERY ANGLE, which sends a positive message through the pumping bass line, lead guitar, and horns. This is a great live album, but if you have never seen or heard Israel Vibration live, this would not be a great place to start. In my opinion, this album does not capture the full magic of an Israel Vibration concert. If you want to capture the full magic of an Israel Vibration concert, I would recommend "Live Again" and/or "Vibes Alive."
do you want some more?.......2003-10-28
backed by the heaviest crew in jamaica (the roots radics), IV just keeps going and going and going. spreading the word of jah rastafari, these guys are amazing and this set is an essential chronicle of their recent "fighting soldiers" tour. with a nice mix of classics and newer material, the sixteen tracks rock hard for 72+ minutes. and, as usual from RAS, the sound quality is excellent. support live music and be sure to catch 'em when they're on the road. peace!
add this one to the list.......2003-10-24
add this one to the list of spectacular live reggae shows caught on cd. and you thought they were getting old. backed by the industry-standard roots radics band, izzy vibes delivers hit after hit; old favorites like the seat-of-your pants intro rockford rock, same song, vultures, red eyes, cool and calm, ball of fire, and why worry, and also a few newer tunes like get up and go, african unification, jah runnings, and some a holler some a bawl. and the crowd's "we want more" reaction to every note they play makes you feel like youre right there; the energy is at maximum irieness. even people who dont care for reggae will dig this. i promise.

Earland goes the distance and never lets up.......2002-11-15
With legendary engineer Rudy Van Gelder at hand to capture the proceedings, Earland and his lean, mean, dream team go the distance relentlessly.
This album starts out with a solo blues guitar intro by Melvin Sparks on "Honky Tonk", but once the Mighty Burner kicks in, he never lets up.
Next is "Sugar", Stanley Turrentine's quintessential soul-jazz composition, which is executed flawlessly.
"Mercy Mercy", Joe Zawinul's gospel-influenced classic jazz ballad, is also given a soulful workout.
"Johnny" starts with the drum intro and takes off into a deep organ groove, until Charlie pauses to let Purdie reiterate and embellish the ominous underlying martial beat just before the coda.
"Organyk Groove" introduces Carlos Garnett, who eloquently states the sinewy minor-key melody on tenor, followed by concise organ, guitar, and sax solos.
"Let the Music Play" is a funk-jazz toe-tapper, with Carlos again adding the requisite horn accents, and the quartet stretches it out with long, hard-hitting solos all around.
"Blues for Sheila" is another blues-based jam which Charles rips into immediately with more of his trademark descending symmetric patterns, sustains, and crescendoes. Melvin also goes in for the kill, delivering his blues-tinged jazz licks with laser accuracy.
"Mister Magic" closes out the session, with Carlos providing the sax voice that links it to Grover Washington's original recording, before everyone gets their turn to pound the funky groove and work the slick chord changes.
Another priceless soul-jazz triumph from the late, great Hammond B-3 wizard, who recorded this only little more than a year before he finally left this planet.
The BURNER goes for the K.O........2000-10-10
It's the '90s, and Charlie hits Rudy Van Gelder's studio yet again with the killer organ groove dream team Bernard Purdie and Melvin Sparks... No one knew his time on this planet would be limited, yet by the way Earland played, one might of thought he was rallying his strength for yet one more K.O. - - yet in many ways it was business as usual for the Burner... that's how he played... growling, grunting, feet swinging, sweating and with a frenzic energy, especially when it came to electrifying rooms with his expected signature rendition of MORE TODAY THAN YESTERDAY. - - In many ways, this album was business as usual for the burner, but in my opinion, SUGAR represented another landmark in his smoking career, burning and thumping those soulful basslines via that soulful turnaround, delivering those rapidfire funky licks of his. He would also go back in time and pay homage to one of his early influences, Bill Dogett, and Mr. Magic would get plenty of air play. - - Charles Earland, over a career spanning the '60s, '70s, '80s and final moments of the '90s never ran out of steam, and this album I believe stands among one of his finest moments. Get this CD, and hear the man who put the funk, groove and soul in Jazz the way few other's did !
Well above average.......2000-10-09
With Bernard Purdie (drums) and Melvin Sparks (guitar). The version of "When Johnny Comes Marching Home Again" has the same marching drum intro as the Jimmy Smith version. Funk and Jazz at its best.
Great Organ Music - the tempo is just awesome.......1999-04-28

Product Description
World Play Soul SirkUS This lot are yet another hard rock supergroup, which we seem to be getting alot of lately. And unlike many of em', like the iffy Brides of Destruction, this lot have produced one hell of an album. They fill out the triumverate of Velvet Revolver and Audioslave, doing the AOR/hard rock thing with oddles of class and aplomb. Course looking at the members this is not a shock. We have Neal Schon (Santana, Journey, HSAS, Hardline, Bad English), Marco Mendoza (Ted Nugent and Whitesnake), Dean Castronovo (who hasn't he played drums for?) and finally Jeff Scott Soto (Malmsteen, Humananimal, Talisman and numerous solo stints including the vocals in the movie Rock Star) so no slackers there. What they have produced is an interesting mixture of all their previous bands. Much of the time, this CD reminded me of a mixture of Hardline and HSAS, except on the track 'Coming Home' where JSS calls on his inner Steve Perry and helps produce a great lost Journey track. JSS vocals are closer to those of Sammy Hager (who with Michael Anthony was in the previous version of the band called Planet US and who wrote the track 'Peephole') than they are say John Waite's or Johnny Goelli. I think JSS has finally found a band that measures up to his talents. The tight as f*** pairing of Mendoza and Castronovo gives the band an awesome bottom end. This band is indescribably good and one does hope they will manage to produce some more material. It may be a wee bit early to declare this my AOR album of the year, but I can't see anything topping this. Rating: 5/5

SOUL SIRKUS ROCKS.......2005-08-05
THIS ALBUM REALLY ROCKS FROM START TO FINISH.DEFINATELY WORTH
BUYING.JSS TOTALY ROCKS AND SOUNDS GREAT.CANT WAIT FOR THE NEXT ALBUM.
If you must buy this, get the bonus dvd, otherwise save your money!.......2005-07-18
I read the reviews and believed all the hype. Neal Schon lets loose with a hard rocking album from start to finish. There could be nothing further from the truth. The album starts off well enough with the 2 best songs in "Highest Ground" and "New Position", but unfortunately, the quality of the songs just disappears. If anyone remembers the band "Hardline" and the CD he did with them in the early 1990's, this is nothing even close. I was so disappointed by this release. Most of the songs are just boring. The bonus dvd saves this in some respects, including videos for "New Position" and the truly drawn out "Another World". Neither video does more than show the band mime their songs in the studio but it is nice to see who these guys are instead of the 1 lame photo of them trying to look tough. Please. Neal Schon is looking just a little like Paul Stanley of KISS these days, doesn't he? There is an interview portion of the dvd with all the band stating how the name Soul Sirkus implies that they can do just about anything musically. I wish they would have focused on one direction and stuck to it. Jeff Scott Soto replaced Sammy Hagar for this and I am sure this is a better recording with him. HSAS 2 decades really didn't do anything for anybody. If you must buy this, get the bonus dvd, it makes it worth it, otherwise avoid the hype and pass on this. Schon only lets loose and rocks on a few cuts!
Get It Right!!1.......2005-06-22
It's Virgil Donati on the drums can we please get that right because he is one of the best drummers ever and if your not crediting him for this album I will be thouroughly peeved!! Just check the site if you don't believe me - www.soulsirkus.com
Phenomenal!.......2005-05-18
The Good
"Highest Ground" is led by a fist pounding riff that never lets up. The backing vocals and lead vocals really come together on the chorus. A super-charged rhythm sets the pace for "New Position". Neil Schon's guitar work on this one shows that he's been a closet shredder all these years. "Another World" combines wailing guitar licks and marching drum beats to create a post-apocalyptic feel, at least to me. It's like Jeff Scott Soto is trying to inspire hope when all is lost. Warm keyboard tones and melodic guitar work dominate the emotional ballad "Soul Goes On". Soto has always been at his best when he cuts a ballad. Creepy riffs and creepy drums drive home the theme of "Peephole". It's no surprise that Sammy Hagar co-wrote this one. Even creepier is that Soto comes off sounding just like him.
Maybe I've listened to too many CDs this week, but the vocal melody to "Periled Divide" sound very similar to the one used in "Another World". Schon is up to some more fancy fretwork on "Praise". This track is about worshiping the female form. There's more female admiration on the down-tuned track "My Sanctuary". By now you'll discover the same thing I did; Jeff Scott Soto is one of the best rock voices out there. It's a same he gets so little acknowledgement in the U.S. "Coming Home" is another heartfelt ballad that could pass for a long lost Journey track.

The Verdict
One word: phenomenal!
Excellent.......2005-05-06
For a long time, Neal Schon was my favorite guitarist and as much as I liked Journey, I have been wanting to hear Neal do something harder and edgier since Journey's initial breakup in the mid 80's. After that went down, I was sure I'd get the chance to hear the darker side of Schon. Only problem was, he got involved with Journey Jr.--ERRRRR--Bad English, and from there it went from bad to worse with Hardline. Not that I was expecting Neal to go Dimebag Darrell, but I was hoping for something ballsier than his post Journey efforts turned out to be.
Until now that is--this CD delivers. Bassist Marco Mendoza and drummer Virgil Donati are a tight unit that don't pussyfoot around. Jeff Scott Soto has a great voice--wide ranging and diverse, but always ballsy. Having said that, he's not that far from nailing the Steve Perry vibe on "Coming Home" at all. He sings as if he has a new lease on life. I'd guess that even on his worst day, Neal's a lot easier to for JSS to work with than Yngwie ever was.
Yea, it's more than a bit 80's sounding, but that's a good thing when it's done RIGHT--and Soul Sirkus definitely does that. I really hope this project does well, because it certainly deserves to.
