2 out of 5 stars Hed Kandi gone dull.......2007-04-23

Hed Kandi was cream of the crop for sophiticated dance CD's, well no more. Since Hed Kandi's creative founder left it has been a steady drop in the quality of the Hed Kandi product, and this new Twisted Disco series release has to be the saddest yet. I love the artists listed but the mixes are dull, the tracks do not build any momentum. Twisted Disco releases used to be naughty down and dirty fun, this one is just down. Just because the mix is deeper and darker does not make it good or interesting. This CD is a prime example.

I'm not sure what's going on with this....it's the exact same tracks as the original Back to Love collection that Mark Doyle compiled in 1999. Are they re-issuing all the old discs (a la George Lucas' 'Star Wars')??? It's a good collection, but if you have the 1999 version, it's the same.

    4 out of 5 stars Nice garage/disco/house compilation.......2005-01-09

This is a fun compilation in the Disco Kandi series. The songs are the perfect soundtrack for a Saturday night, or any party. Keep you moving, the songs will stay in your head. Disc one kicks off with the funky Love Theme (Party) by (Love) Tattoo. Deepstar's "Sugar" is a highlight as is "That's How Good Your Love Is" by Il Padrions feat Jocelyn Brown, "Do 4 Love" by Fuel, Fac 15 feat Cathi Ogden on "Haven't You Heard". Disc one is closed out with the excellent "Dove (I'll Be Loving You)" by Moony, which is a highlight. Some highlights on disc two include "Because" by HiFi Serious, "Galaxy 2000" by War, a great cover of Prince's "I Would Die 4 U" done by The Space Cowboy, "Fire" by Mousse T feat Emma Lanford and many others.

    5 out of 5 stars wicked!.......2003-12-10

This album is fantastic. i have bought a few head kandi cd's over the last couple of years and they are all stellar, but this one is by far the best. the first cd outshines the second in vocal tracks but the 2nd has some harder pure dancefloor tracks that are amazing. every song on this compilation will make you want to get up and dance.

5 out of 5 stars 1.000.000 STARS FOR THIS COPILATION ,.......2003-03-14

Definity a big start , this cd its groove all night long

4 out of 5 stars Get Dancing or Get Out of the Way!.......2002-12-18

With a name like "Disco Kandi," it takes no rocket scientist to figure out what the CD is going to sound like. Offering two discs of thumping and energetic grooves, "Disco Kandi" is a classy set of neo-disco and house compiled with love by Mark Doyle. You'll be bobbing your head to the beats of delicious club nuggets like the Full Intention remix of the popular anthem "Follow Me," a respectable cover of Patrice Rushen's 1980s "Haven't You Heard," and the groovy bite of "Sugar" by Deepstar. Other interesting tracks are the cover of Prince's "I Would Die 4 U" by The Space Cowboy and "Fire" by Mousse T. featuring Emma Lanford. But the real eye-opener is the first track of Disc 2, which has a weird but intriguing dance remake of "Because," an "Abbey Road" album track by the Beatles. Like virtually all Hed Kandi compilations, "Disco Kandi" isn't a mix CD, so the tracks appear in their full-length extended versions. If your party could use some spicing up or if you want a good disc to work out to, then it's time for a little disco flava from the family at Hed Kandi.

4 out of 5 stars The Disco Kandi series is back in full form..........2002-11-09

Mark Doyle has truly compiled a masterpiece of garage and disco-house that is equal parts retro and nouveau. "Disco Kandi 05.02" comes as a breath of fresh air (especially when one remembers the disappointing "Disco Kandi 5").

Both discs are appealing, though CD1 seems a bit more diverse, with dubs as well as vocal tracks.

The standouts from CD1 are Deepstar's "Sugar", II Padrinos feat. Jocelyn Brown's "That's How Good Your Love Is", Fuel's "Do 4 Love" and Dirty Tricks vs. The Turnatable Orchestra's "Gonna Miss Me" (a novel track on CD1 is T Ski Valley's "Catch the Beat", remixed by Dimi and Mousse T, which harkens back to Sugarhill Gang's "Rapper's Delight"). CD2's standouts are Syke 'N' Sugastarr's "Release Your Mind" and Tim Deluxe feat. Sam Obernick's "It just Won't Do".

As far as remix talent goes, Joey Negro turns in a mix of Raven Maize's "Fascinated" and Mousse T. makes several appearances throughout the collection, as a remixer, producer and performer.

As any club enthusiast knows, the music isn't just about the beat, it's about melody, attitude and feeling; "Disco Kandi 05.02" has those qualities and then some.

5 out of 5 stars Dark and Dirty.......2006-05-26

I have always been a fan of the Twisted Disco series. Last year's though, wasn't up to snuff in my opinion. I really liked the second one, but this may be my new favorite in the series! The beats are a lot darker, and something you would likely hear at an after hours bar, or very late in the night! If only some of the clubs here played tracks like this! I would list favorites, but all of the songs are pretty strong. Some that so standout though include Morillio feat Leslie Carter "Waiting in the Darkness", The Knife's "Heartbeats", Mylo "Muscle Car", The Egg "Walking Away", and many many others. Check it out!

    5 out of 5 stars WOW.......2006-05-26

this album is completely "off the taps" (unreal). i'm not sure which twisted disco music man was crankin but at 3-stars it wasn't this beauty. as a HUGE fan of v3, the much anticipated v4 stepped it up another notch as the series has progressively seemed to do.

exceptional songs include works done by tiga, mylo, freeform five, noir, etc.... every track is truly amazing, more so than v3 (which had some unthoughtful earbleeders)

Regardless of who's come or gone, it really comes down to the music; and on that note this CD is a no-brainer must have for any party-machine's collection.

    enjoy the music.

    3 out of 5 stars New Kandi.......2006-05-07

Well, as a huge Hed Kandi fan I feel compelled to tell fellow fans just how unremarkable this edition is compared to previous years. The Twisted Disco compilations have always been my favorites due to the cutting edge sounds on the songs and last year's edition was case in point. This is the first Twisted Disco without creator Mark Doyle at the helm and since the acquisition of the label by Ministry of Sound. Mark was REALLY onto something with last year's edition and sonically this year's picks up where Mark and company left off. I will say that some of the sounds here are unlike anything you've ever heard. Also, this version leans much closer to what you would typically hear at an after-hours club. So kudos to MOS for that and for reviving Nu Cool as well as the upcoming return of Serve Chilled. Unfortunately, that's where it all ends. When Mark left, so did many of his other well-known DJ's and the absence painfully shows here especially in the quality of the songs. Although the core sound is left intact, the songs overall are base, uninspiring, superficial, and fully devoid of personality. And you won't find any of the talented female vocalists that gave this series so much true sex appeal. What you'll find are primitive sounding songs with even more primitive lyrics. Even the cover art has suffered as you don't even have to crack open the cellophane to find out that something has gone downhill. Just compare the erotic looking girl with the guitar from last year with what's on the cover this year and you'll get the point. Compare the music inside with last year's version or more importantly Mark's new "Tokyo Project" and you'll really get the point! The overall verdict is good background music and apart from some gems by Tiga, The Egg, Freeform Five and a couple others, this edition has not much to sink your teeth into at all. Apparently, some longtime fans have also been mixed on other compilations since the acquisition and who can blame them? Hopefully they can bring back more of the magic on some of these upcoming releases, but then again weren't we saying that a few months ago??

5 out of 5 stars More Fabulous than EVER BEFORE!.......2006-07-07

I love the Disco Heaven Series from Hed Kandi and each year it always without failure gets better and better and Disco Heaven 2006 is the best one yet!

The music is so disco, so kamp and so funked up slap happy that you can really only get down and shake your booty and let the divine lyric's of Disco Heaven take you for a colourful ride!

    The best tracks are:

*Love is Love (This should be a Hed Kandi anthem)

*All This Love That I'm Giving (The best version of this track yet!)

*Soul Shakin (Did think your could turn an early 90's En Vogue melody into a funk house dance floor must? Yes it's happened!)

*I got the Music In Me

    *I'm Alright

*Be Thankful (My most favourite track on the whole album. So gay, so gospel and so vocal. Wow!)

Thanks Hed Kandi for another successfully flavoursome compilation :)

    3 out of 5 stars Subpar collection.......2006-05-26

The newest DISCO HEAVEN from Hed Kandi is a mixed bag. I have a been a Kandi fan for a long time, and have stuck with them even though Mark Doyle has moved on. Disco Heaven is meant to be house jams that have big vocals. That is achieved here. The problem mainly is, a lot of these songs have appeared in some form, on other Kandi compilations. So it feels like a bit of a rehash. The cover art is great though, and has improved greatly since the last Disco Kandi album.

2 out of 5 stars BETWEEN HEAVEN AND HELL.......2006-05-05

If you read my review on "Hed Kandi: Swing City", you probably lost your lunch with the overwhelming way that I praised Kandi's releases since the acquisition of this great label by MoS. Seriously, I even got to compare them to the ones released in Mark Doyle's days. But after listened to Disco Heaven 2006, I hope that this album is just one little down in what seems to be a promising future and not what we Kandi lovers were afreid of.

Hey, don't misunderstand me, it's not a BAAAD album (specially if you're new in house music business), is just that I (and maybe many HK fans) expected so much more, after listened to Twisted Disco and Swing City, than this hybrid and full commercial record.

First, let's start with the good things: The cover girl has notoriously improved since Doyle's took his gorgeous and classic Kandi girls with him; check Disco Kandi 05.05's front cover and you'll see what I'm talking about. Now, some tracks are vivid and grabs you to the dance floor...now, WHAT ARE THE BAD THINGS? Well, 1. Some tracks present a dark sound; a very huge mistake since is the uplifting sound the reason why we love this series and what we expect, and not "the tracks they forgot" to include in twisted disco(obviouly they have missed the concept of DISCO HEAVEN), and 2.TOO MUCH ANTHEMS!!!, songs that we are tired to listen over and over again, and, what is worse, bad remixes from them. Take these one for example: Fade by Solu Music(track 1, CD 2)... JESUS!!!! This one has been around since Beach House 04.02.. included in The Mix 2006, World Series Paris and now in this year Disco Heaven?? Come on!!! Take Me Away remix(Track 7, CD 2), Rise up (Track 6, CD 1), Jealousy (Track 7, CD 1), Say What You Want (Track 10, CD 1)... Even if many of these songs are from other labels' releases, they just can't pretend we only listen to Hed Kandi, can they?; nothing different, nothing fresh.

Of course there are new songs and very good ones, but, like I said before, this is not what I expected from what is supposed to be a quality, original and innovative label.

Not bad, but definitely NOT Good.

5 out of 5 stars Hed Kandi and Twisted Disco Rock!.......2005-10-05

I own the previous two Twiested Disco album and this is a another great collection of twisted, dirty, house music with lots of great guitar samples. My favorite tracks are Rocker (Eric Prydz Mix) by Alter Ego, Das Plan (Original Album Version) by Terranova, Over Again (Cicada Extended Remix) by Odessi feat. Maria Naylor and Feel It (Club Control Mix) by Antoine Clamaran feat. Lulu Hughes. You can always count on Hed Kandi to release one amazing album after another. Of course the cover art work is not bad either!

    5 out of 5 stars Twisted.......2005-06-01

Twisted Disco has been one of my favorites in the Hed Kandi series. I anticipate it every year. On this edition, the house is still twisted, but even more twisted with heavy guitar riffs. It really works well for effect and the songs are great. Lots of hot beats and great bass throughout! The darker side of Hed Kandi house is right! Highlights include Kush "Bittersweet", Yer Man "Weird Therapy", Terranova "Das Plan", Eric Kupper and the Barrow Gang feat Bonnie Bailey's "I Want Kandi", Tweal ft Robina "Watching You", Suzanne Palmer "Luv 2 Luv", and more. Check it out and get ready to be twisted!

5 out of 5 stars Real twisted and hot.......2005-04-16

I listen to the other Hed Kandi compilations (Beach House, Deeper, Stereo Sushi, Winter Chill, you name it) and I think that this is my favourite compilation so far.
I really like the houes beats on this compilation.
The vocals are real sexy, like the ones you find on Hed Kandi Winter Chill, but with 'twisted' beats (I suppose that's where they got the title of the album from).
This is the darker side of Hed Kandi with hard pumping bass (amazing bass that makes you want to jump and dance).
I like the second half of the first CD.
I personally think the songs in the second CD are not as organized as the first CD, but nevertheless it still has some real good songs by Mousse T, Deep Dish, and Antoine Clamaran.
Very upbeat songs and certainly songs you can dance to!!

    5 out of 5 stars A Twisted, Wild Party!!!.......2005-03-31

Hed Kandi serves up another AWESOME edition of the Twisted Disco Series, this one even better than before! The beats are hot, the vocals are steamy, the guitar is rockin', and the songs kick butt.

CD1 brings us hip dancin' songs like "Watching You" "Luv 2 Luv" and "Salty" and naughty fun with "I Want Kandi" "Wonder" and "Alone Together" plus some incredible robotic electric guitar in songs like Spektrum's "Kinda New" and Alter Ego's "Rocker".

Then CD2 comes along, and just when you think the tracks can't get any hotter Hed Kandi puts out wicked hits from Mousse T and Deep Dish, an erotic guitar-filled "Feel It" by Antoine Clamaran and off-the-wall craziness with "Weird Therapy" by Yer Man.

Overall, this CD package is one big wild party in a case. You can listen to it anywhere, in the car, at home, or in the club. But no matter when you're listening to it it'll be impossible to keep your feet still!

    5 out of 5 stars Funkified!.......2005-04-18

This is one of my favorites from Hed Kandi. The first disc is absolutely solid with highlights including Blue Six's "Pure", Superfunk feat Ron Carroll on "Lucky Star", Crystal Clear on "Live Your Life", Negrocan "Cada Vez", Fire Island feat Mark Anthioni "If You Should Need A Friend", and others. The second disc is great too. Starts off with the excellent "Rise Up" by Sunkids feat Chance. Other highlights on disc two include "Step 2 Me" by Grant Nelson feat Jean McClain, DJ Eric's "Desire", Dana Dawson "3 is Family" and more. The compilation is from 2000. Great set in the Disco Kandi series.

3 out of 5 stars Music to get ready for a funkin' nite on the town!.......2001-03-08

I first saw the whole Hed Kandi collection and practically died because the covers just looked sooo damn funky. Finally with a bit of spare money in my pocket, I picked my most favourite cover, and bought it, and am soo glad that I did.

What is it made up of? Funky phatt house with sparkling disco and garage tracks. That's pretty much what the CD lables itself as aswell. The CD begins with a steady funky groove, and by the final track on the second CD, you're looking at tracks that have every inch of you needing to release some really phatt moves!

Of course there are winner tracks, and then some that aren't quite as good. I gave it 3 starts because even though some songs I can't get sick of hearing, some I just don't want to hear that often. The only other bad thing I'd say is that it's not really that good for general sit down listening. The Intro's are just way too damn long. Excellent though as I said to get ready for a nite out on the town, having friends over for a party, etc... It's got alot of thumping bass, killer melodies (some get really stuck in your head!) and i must add that having the CD itself is kinda cool! The case's pic is gorgeous, it's a cool open out three tier I spose you could say kind of case (??!!!), and the wording inside and out add for extra enjoyment (for example, warning on the CD's themselves, DO NOT EAT!).

ust quickly, some of those winner tracks are; Santessa 'Nowhere', Blue Six 'Pure' (pretty good, though I do like the remix on Nude Dimensions 2 better though), Superfunk feat. Ron Carrol 'Lucky Star' (really discoy!), Roger Sanchez feat. Cooly's Hot Box 'I never knew', and the final song on the whole compilation just is thye most perfect track to finish on, it's Dana Dawson with '3 is Family'. Total sing along overly positive happy song that always makes me feel damn good!

I really do recommend this for all house Disco lovers, one that totally goes off! Njoy life always...and this kinda music helps!

4 out of 5 stars A solid primer for the big night out.......2000-10-30

The stylish folks at Hed Kandi are carving out a nice little niche of house and disco compilations, and this, their second in the series and twelfth release overall, is a pleasing slice of dance-friendly, mostly underground cuts. The emphasis here is slower vocal house and latin-flavored grooves, slowly stroking the party over 22 songs an excitable lather.

Santessa's gentle summer anthem "Nowhere," is the first and best song you'll find, but there's plenty to choose from: the floor-filler "(Do the) Spanish Hustle," the Aretha-led hug of "Rise Up" and the guitar strummin' "La Chitara" all stand out among the more obvious but effective cuts.

DJ-holics should be prepared to find these selections unmixed (a practice as rare in dance as the polyester suit) . Frankly, in an era where the mantra is "Power to the ProTools" it's quite refreshing.

A solid primer for that big night out. Grade: B

4 out of 5 stars Funky as hell...........2000-07-28

Another fantastic addition to the Hed Kandi series. This double CD starts off with the beautiful Nowhere by Santessa and things just get better from there. Imagine you are lying on the beach in Ibiza after a huge party night...coming down and listening to some of the best sounds of summer. I highly recommend this series to anyone who likes US Garage and uplifting vocal house....or if you've had enough Trance then check this out

    Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Back to Love.......2005-05-25

This is the third installment of the BACK TO LOVE series from Hed Kandi. It is a nice retrospective of club hits from the late 80s and early 90s. The first disc is usually filled with club classics, while the second disc focuses more on hip hop and funkier tracks. While I wasn't in the clubs when these songs were being played, some of them I do remember from my youth, and either way it's just good music. Highlights include En Vogue's "Hold On", Ce Ce Peniston's "Finally", Frankie Knuckles "Your Love", and many more. The great thing is these are all the full length mixes.

2 out of 5 stars mastered from vinyl!!!! A real downer to a great series........2005-01-07

I bought this, my first volume of the hed kandi series, and while I'm thrilled to have the full length 12" mixes of many of these classics on CD, I can't overlook the fact that you can HEAR pops in the vinyl records that many of these songs were obviously mastered from for this compilation. Listen to this CD through headphones and you'll notice it much more at certain points. While it isn't the worst thing and it sounds like effort was made to clean up the sound quality, it makes me hesitant to buy another volume of this series. Why spend so much money for CD quality when all you're getting is vinyl quality recorded onto CD??? I could do that at home with my recordable CD player and my turntable...

    5 out of 5 stars loved it!!!.......2004-08-08

This is the best dance cd ever!!!! This cd contains the best R&B Hits and house sounds combined!!!

"Back to Love" is a double CD that affectionately looks back to the old school (1980's to early 90s) and delivers a generous serving of delectable early club hits. For a lot of labels, it's a great concept, but the execution sometimes results in advestised-on-TV compilations that have "K-tel" cheese written all over them. Fortunately, the selections on this disc are tasteful and will bring a smile to the face of any serious clubhead. Adeva's powerful house re-working of Aretha's "Respect" sounds even better today, and it's a reminder of the glory years when house was truly rooted in soul. Sterling Void's "It's Alright" (which Pet Shop Boys would later cover) appears, and the tragically out-of-print "Too Blind To See It" from Kym Sims (produced by Chicago's Steve "Silk" Hurley) is another highlight that stands out on the 70+ minute Disc 1. On the second disc, the tempo changes a bit, still offering a few disco jams but also flirting with r&b and hip-hop. Detroit's Inner City serves up a discocentric remake of Stephanie Mills' "Whatcha Gonna Do With My Lovin'," and Shannon's still slammin' 1980s "Let The Music Play" appears in its full length. For hip hop lovers, the classic "White Lines" will satisfy their crave, and Dan Hartman's "Relight My Fire" still holds up as a disco stomper. As with virtually all Hed Kandi releases, the songs here aren't mixed, and many of them appear in their 12-inch extended versions. If you want a great collection of what great dance music used to sound like, you can't go wrong with these two CDs.

    1 out of 5 stars Don't Buy!!!!.......2002-01-26

I picked this up at a used CD shop and no wonder the person got rid of it! I am a huge Hed Kandi fan (they've saved my life musically). But I have to be frank, this really, really, really is an awful compilation. Out of the 24 tracks on this double CD compilation I only enjoyed 3 songs. Those are "Respect" by Adeva, "Passion of your passion " by Gat Decor and "Whatcha Gonna Do with my Lovin" by Inner City. The rest of the songs are simply R&B tracks from the late 80's early 90's (a period I loathed). Hed Kandi is a great lable but they have so much better compilations out there. Skip this one.

    2 out of 5 stars Not What I Expected.......2005-07-30

If you like repetition and an outdated Miami/San Fran rave club beat that never ends throughout the 2 disks then this cd is for you. It was not at all the type of mix of disco I anticipated but that may be my fault. There's no pulp fiction here, just a continuous boring repetitive dance beat on every track. You could just hit repeat on the 1st song and you'd get the same result...

    5 out of 5 stars Disco Heaven.......2005-05-27

DISCO HEAVEN is a great compilation filled with shiny disco songs with big vocals. This one is my favorite thus far in the series. There's a lot of great songs spread across 2 discs, 24 tracks in total. Some highlights include Inaya Day "Hold Your Head Up High", a cover of Michael Jackson's "Man In The Mirror" done by Rythme Fatal feat Redd-Angel, Michael Grey's "The Weekend", Solitaire's "You Got The Love", Soul Rebels "I'll Be Good", StoneBridge and Therese "Take Me Away", and many others. A worthwhile compilation to get your groove on with!

5 out of 5 stars Awesome - hed kandi top again!!!.......2005-03-23

With this being the newest Hed Kandi Compilation to be released, and being in dire need of a good mixed cd, i plumped to pick this over some, how do you say, more downhill titles.
Hed Kandi first sprang upon me in march of 2004 while browsing the net for decent dance labels, i went on holiday to magaluf that year and in a club called 'Bananas' myself n a mate found Hed Kandi to be just the tonic, and soundtrack to future clubbing events!!!
I first listened to the cd while friends and i were getting ready fo a serious nights clubbin, and by god did it get me in the mood!!! Straght from the off, disco heaven is exactly that, but CD2 goes to great lenghts and gives great delivery, especially in the final third of the cd.
This cd is a must own for anyone who enjoys house/dance and i can see this being in my stereo for the forseeable future.
    Well done Hed Kandi!!!

5 out of 5 stars Thank The Lord!!!.......2005-02-28

Oh, Praise God! Another Disco Heaven came down from Hed Kandi! And better than ever before!!

For those who have the previous Disco Heaven compilations you know that it's one of the best series brought by the always fabulous Hed Kandi. On this slammin' 2-Disc wonder, we have sexy, sleek, funky hits all over the place! CD 1 dishes out dandies like "You Can Make It" "Pink is the Colour" a great remix of Stonebridge's "Take Me Away" plus more loungey goodness like "Nightlights" and "Could It Be Magic"

Then, just when you thought Heaven couldn't get any better, CD 2 comes along and you'll find yourself shakin' that booty to "Pop Muzak" "Everywhere" a great remake of "Man in the Mirror" and as always, a fantastic Inaya Day groove. Plus many many more!

All in all, if you have ANY doubts as to whether or not to get this album, forget it! Never has there been a label more trust worthy than Hed Kandi. If it's from them, it is AWESOME!
