"Berlin Sessions" is the first full-length album from Detroit techno originator Juan Atkins since 1998. When talking about the foundations of electronic music, or even techno music itself, mostly European names drop like Kraftwerk, Gary Numan, The Normal, Anne Clark, Eno and Cybotron aka Model 500 aka Infiniti aka Juan Atkins. Mr. Atkins was unique in researching and experimenting with future electronics on American shores in Detroit long before the term "techno" had even been used. And long before he joined the roster of innovative Tresor artists in the very early 1990's.
During his last stay in Berlin, the techno originator booked studio time at the 5th Floor Studios and began work on what became a recherche to discover Berlin's influence on his music today. This of course brought back many memories of the days while recording in Berlin for the 3MB series, one of Tresor's earliest releases with Thomas Fehlmann and Moritz von Oswald in 1992 (Tresor.009). Over the years, Juan's collaborations with Tresor have joined the roster of significant techno classics. The times have definitely changed as well as Berlin's younger techno generation and their advanced, contemporary sounds. In his new collection of tracks, Juan Atkins evokes the machine-age technology of his roots with lucid melodies that deflect the pureness of Detroit to the complexity of Berlin production values. The result finds these new tracks absorbing in his special world of electronic music while never getting boring or repetitive. Many new artists are fully aware of these electronic roots, including Tresor recording artist Pacou who is responsible for the additional production on this album as well as for the bonus CD track. Razor-edge harder dynamics of Pacou with the austere electro-groove of Atkins. Old-school meets the new

immaculate conception.......2007-04-22
I imagine quite a few fans find fault in this work because it deviates far afield of the typical Residents sound (if there is such a thing). If, however, you are willing to flex your ears a bit, you will find it a rewarding listen. It does not rate a full 5 stars because the production leaves something to be desired, and a few of the songs do not reach their full potential. But these are minor complaints, and overall the album is a most immaculate conception, closing with an epic rendition of Judas Saves.

Residents Hit The Road with Roadworms.......2000-09-29
Roadworms opens with a strange take on Grand Funk Railroads' We're An American Band. The famed eyeball headed band from Shrieveport La. takes on the little band from Flint Mi. with Un-American Band. They are coming to your land to make you pray with them instead of party down....
The whole CD contains more guitar work on it than anything since Snakefinger (a frequent collaborater who died of a heart attack). Of the course the main course of the Residents is the emaculant keyboard work and the vocals with the obtuse lyrics. Done in the secrecy of the studio Mr Skull is able to sing with out the mask, thus making the vocals a little more listenable than other live efforts. The Cd, basically a retelling of Wormwood is a very listenable Residents CD. Not for everyone, but a must for the Residents Fan.
