Keep American Hi-5 Alive!.......2007-07-18
It is urgent that we let Discovery and Kids Like Us (KLU), Hi-5's producers, know that we do NOT support their decision to stop producing new "Hi-5" episodes. Time is of the essence because if no new episodes are produced soon, there will be no reason for Discovery to keep our talented cast, Curtis, Jenn, Kimee, and newest members Sydney and Yasmeen. That's right -- there will be no more Hi-5 for TV, tours, appearances, charitable work, or anything else!
Information We Need to Emphasize to Discovery and KLU
*Hi-5 merchandise is currently one of the "Top 10 Brands" at Ty's Toy Box, a key internet retailer;
*The current "Hi-5 Live" tour has been filling up arenas across Canada and the U.S.;
*The $100 VIP packages for the tour have been completely selling out; and
*Hi-5 fans across Latin America are now eagerly requesting that Hi-5 will come to tour in their countries, too.
Hi-5 fans must let Discovery recognize that they will lose this entire revenue stream, as well as our support, patience, and goodwill, if they do not make new episodes to be televised within the next year.
We also need to let Discovery realize that the current 70 episodes, which are shown on 3-month cycles on TV, aren't enough to satisfy Hi-5's unique audience. Hi-5 fans include children, parents, teens, and young adults -- how many other TV shows can deliver that kind of fanbase? Hi-5 is a unique product and does not fit into the mold of a typical children's TV show, and we need to let Discovery know that before it's too late!
Just for your kids.......2007-07-12
I really recommend this CD for your kids. You won't regret it.

Not all the big numbers are here but there are enough to make this a "must have" Stones album, especially for those who don't want to buy all the individual albums these tunes came from.
The digital remastering sounds great and there is a good liner notes booklet too.

If, to your way of the thinking, a Brooklyn double-dutch tournament has about as much business inhabiting the wonderful world of Disney as a fairy-princess documentary does the ESPN Zone, you've got a lot of catching up to do. With High School Musical and now Jump In!, the Disney Channel is doing for tweens what John Travolta and Olivia Newton John did a generation ago with Grease: rallying them behind an exceptionally digestible drama, and upping the appeal by patching in songs with more sticking power than a five-pack of Hubba Bubba. Musically, Jump In! picks up where "Get'cha Head in the Game," from High School Musical, leaves off--these are bouncy dance and hip-hop tracks that'll find you nodding, shoulder-shimmying or knee-bobbing in your seat no matter your age. Stars Keke Palmer and Corbin Bleu turn in a couple of keepers (Bleu's "Push It to the Limit" particularly), but the best songs here belong to the pros: Jordan Pruitt shows shades of Nelly Furtado and other pop giants on "Jump to the Rhythm," and Lil' Josh, on his adaptation of the old-school classic "Jump," is just plain irresistible. --Tammy La GorceCustomer Reviews:

Jumping In the Teenage Music Universe!.......2007-04-13
1. It's On: NLT 7/15- I like the song in the beginng on the film, because to me, it's really catchy.
2. It's My Turn Now: Keke Palmer 15/15- AWESOME SONG! She went from "Akeelah & The Bee" to double-dutching queen. If you like Keke Palmer, you should love this song.
3. Push It To The Limit: Corbin Bleu- 15/15- Amazing song! Corbin came from "High School Musical" singer in the backgrounds to singing abilities. This song will push every teenager's song into the limit. Love it, even if it's on Radio Disney.
4.Vertical: T-Squad- 15/15- Great Song. Love the performance. Take Kid Karizz, Miki, Boo Boo & Jade and you've got the T-Squad! Hopefully, this song will go vertical on all the other song. They put the "Yo" in the "Yo Factor" for future singing careers.
5.Where Do I Go From Here- Sebastian Mego- 12/15- It's okay. Haven't heard the song yet, but I hope it's extremely good.
6. Jump To The Rhythm- Jordan Pruitt- 15/15- LOVE THIS SONG!! The song is extremely catchy. Has a mix of pop, dance, R&B and hip-hop in a cool way.
7. Jumpin!- Keke Palmer: 15/15- KEKE DOES IT AGAIN!! She's singing another song from the follow-up "It's My Turn Now" I saw the music video on Disney Channel and it rocks. Hoping that it will be on Radio Disney somehow. Keep it up, Palmer!
8. Go!- Jupiter Rising- 12/15- Haven't heard the song, but I hear it's pretty good and a catchy song.
9. I'm Ready- Drew Seeley- 13/15- Haven't heard the song before, but I would hope it's a pretty good song.
10. Gotta Lotta- Prima J- 14/15- I'm thinking it's a good song for the movie, though it might be in the Double-Dutching scenes.
11. Live It Up- Jeannie Ortega- 14/15- It's a good song for the Double-Dutching scenes and everyone will love this song.
12. Jump- Lil' Josh- 15/15- This song puts the WOW in the WOW Factor! Love this song. Hip-hop at early age. So cool. I heard it on Radio Disney and it's a cool song, even if it's made for Hip-Hop for little rappers.
13. Let It Go- Kyle- 11/15- Not the best song I heard, but it should be okay, even if it's really cool.
If you love Jump In!, you gotta buy the Soundtrack and the DVD. It's awesome!

Band leader and lounge kingpin Louis Prima will be best be known for the classic, "Just a Gigolo," immortalized by David Lee Roth for a whole new generation of swingers. But Prima's output went much further: in his day he recorded for Capitol, acted in a movie or two, even owned a golf course. Prima's genius is infectious: lounge, swing, and Dixieland all fuse together into medleys that are fun, dance-worthy, and upbeat. Prima's duets with Keely Smith are the obvious highlights here: "That Ol' Black Magic," "Hey Boy! Hey Girl!," and "I've Got You Under My Skin" are essential Prima tracks. Sure, the cheese factor occasionally runs high, but it is a fun trip. --Jason VerlindeCustomer Reviews:

The joy of life!.......2007-05-31
Unlike many of the people who have posted here before me, I have no particular interest in the swing revival, and I did not come across Louis Prima via Brian Setzer. Brian Setzer is, however, as good a link to Louis Prima as any. Prima was a mysterious figure who played heavily in the otherwise fictional 50's period Italian food film "Big Night" (1996). Intrigued, I bought this disk after seeing "Big Night" in the theatre.
The song "Beep Beep" is dated and corny, but it differs from the rest of the disk only in its space-age subject matter and "otherworldly" slide-guitar sound effects. It was topical during the late-50's space race. Everything else holds up perfectly well over 40-plus years.
Prima's band is tight, yet spontaneous and not sterile. He has a great onstage comic rapport with cohort Sam Butera, and also with his then-wife and straight-woman Keely Smith.
An example from "Embraceable You" --
Keely (singing): "Why don't you come and get your baby-do..."
Louis (aside to the audience): "Call from 'The Point'."
This disk is a must for any non-classical music lover with a pulse. This is in my top 5 CD's, out of perhaps 400 I own, and is certainly a "desert island disk." Deservedly, almost everyone on this page has given it 5 stars. It doesn't get any better than this, kids. (Adapted from my review of 10/27/1999.)

At a moment when mainstream music is clogged with a surfeit of stale, formulaic songs and huge egos, Dan Zanes has found the Drano. Family Dance, his second kids' record (after the fab Rocket Ship Beach), again comes through with big-name helpers--Sandra Bernhard, Rosanne Cash, and Loudon Wainwright III among them--but instead of assembling a mixed bag of self-important numbers, Zanes, who produced and plays on all but one of 15 tracks, maintains a cohesive vibe that's low-key and playful. Yet here's a disc that's all over the map, genre-wise. Gruffster Rankin' Don, a.k.a. Father Goose, rasta-raps his way through "The Hokey Pokey" and "Skip to My Lou," the Sandy Girls carry us off to a colorful Caribbean village for "Linstead Market," Cash folks up "Fooba Wooba John," and Leadbelly's "Rock Island Line" makes a stop in Memphis bluesland. Zanes's originals--"Jump Up," "Wonder Wheel," and "Thrift Shop," performed as a duet with Bernhard--manage to be wholesome, happy, and hip all at once, no mean feat. But it's the music making on Family Dance that impresses most of all. Fiddles, beatboxes, mandolins, tubas, banjos, and concertina elbow their way onto these tracks, and they're balanced by Zanes's arrangements and backup singer Barbara Brousal's graceful voice and guitar work. Kids 2 and up will be likewise captivated by the chunky board-book packaging, again with original artwork. --Tammy La GorceAlbum Description
this is the follow up to the acclaimed "rocket ship beach" cd. it's the hip handmade sound of dan zanes and his friends bringing acoustic and electric guitars, fiddles, drums, harmonicas, mandolins, accordions, banjos, tamborines, and voices together for a mixture of traditional and original songs that can be danced to or just listened to depending on the occation. this is 21st century folk music made with the whole family in mind. special guests include Rosanne Cash, Loudon Wainwright lll, The Sandy Girls, Barbara Brousal, Sandra Bernhard, Rankin' Don aka Father Goose, and the Rubi Theatre Company.Customer Reviews:

on my daughter just danced and sang away.
Since then we have embraced Dan's music into our family music circle. The lyrics are clean and catchy, and the rythm is simple enough for even a child to keep up with.
Most tracks are ok, but the two by "Father Goose" are awful........2007-05-04
Those two tracks make me cringe and I skip them every time my son plays the CD. However, several songs are wonderfully musical. For example, Linstead Market is just delightful.

"My kids seem to like it (the ones I don't hit the skip button for) but I am not going to sacrifice myself when there are plenty of other recordings that they and I both like."
If you don't want to 'sacrifice' once in a while and let your kids grow and find what they like, leave the room. A little fun and free expression is what childhood is all about! Sometimes it is about what they like. This is how they find out who THEY are.
Overall, my son likes the music. It is especially fun to waltz with him in my arms to 'Streets of New York'. Thanks to Dan Zanes, my son can find out it is fun to mix the old with the new.
hard for Mom to tolerate.......2007-02-19
Why don't I like it? Zanes has a croak similar to Bob Dylan's; with all due respect to Dylan's great songwriting, I don't enjoy his singing. Zane's friends vary in talent but none of them seem able to harmonize together. The songs in a minor key are particularly grating, such as "All Around the Kitchen" which many people seem to like, though I can't see why. The instrumentation is nothing special either. Don't buy this just because you like the song "Jump Up" from Sesame Street; you should listen before you buy to make sure the rest of it matches your taste.

Substitute grits for glitz, soul for sheen, and wry humor for mythic self-regard, and the Amazing Rhythm Aces could have been the Eagles. Though they didn't fly as high commercially, the Aces' blend of rock, country, down-home rhythm & blues, and even gospel continues to satisfy on this combo reissue of the band's first two mid-'70s albums. "Third Rate Romance" remains the Memphis band's signature song and major pop hit, while "The End Is Not in Sight (The Cowboy Tune)" anticipated the changes in commercial country a couple of decades down the road. Rhythm aside, the key to the band's appeal is frontman Russell Smith, whose songs and singing transcend musical boundaries with amazing grace. --Don McLeeseAlbum Description

The back of this two-CD set may say "File under Lounge," but frankly, lounging will be the very last thing on your mind once you put Louis and Keely on. It's simply impossible to stand still while the duo, backed by Sam Butera and the Witnesses, gets going. When Keely sings "Hey boy, I can really cook," there's a tiny chance she's talking about something that takes place in the kitchen, but the galloping bass line behind her says that she really belongs to the dance floor. Whoo-hee! Cole Porter's "Just One of Those Things" is taken at a frenetic pace--do these people ever pause to breathe? The bulk of this collection was recorded between 1957 and 1962, and it makes for an explosive document of a now-gone era when men in sharp suits hung out at the Copa, babes with pointy rocket-launcher breasts at their arms. The sheer effortlessness of it all is still supremely exciting. --Elisabeth VincentelliCustomer Reviews:

This was my first introduction to Mr. Prima & Co. What a swingin' treat!
You can tell from each and every cut on this twin CD set that these guys were having fun. Many of the songs have little ad-libs between Louis, Keely Smith, Sam Butera, and the other band members. Louis jumps in between solos to throw out comments, he'll scat, even proto-rap, and is having such a good time he'll try to keep from laughing while he and Sam duel with brass. Only true professional musicians can get away with that sort of thing and make it sound good. Louis & Co. are top-notch pros.
Keely solos on a few cuts to round things out, and basically, you get the feeling of what it must have been like to be kickin' it in Vegas back in the swank era while taking in Louis Prima's act. Maybe tomorrow night, you'll catch Dino at the Sands, and take in Torme on Tuesday. Or, maybe you'll just keep coming back here to see Louis, Keely, Sam, and the Witnesses again and again.
Many of the songs are just plain fun ("Robin Hood/Oh Babe", "Banana Split For My Baby", "Felicia No Capicia", "Greenback Dollar Bill", "There'll Be No Next Time"), and even the old standards take on a wink and a smile when Louis gets ahold of them ("The Music Goes 'Round And Around", "That Old Black Magic", "Just One of Those Things", "Embraceable You")!
Get yourself a martini, sit back and relax, and get ready to be swung back to swanksville. This set is one swingin' good time, whether you're six or sixty!
Fun with the swing masters.......2000-11-09

Based on Nicholas Sparks' novel, director Nick Cassavetes film spins the bittersweet tale of a 60-year romance, as seen from the polar perspectives of its promising youth and the travails of an old age cursed by Alzheimer's. Its soundtrack effectively echoes those polar dramatic concerns, with composer Aaron Zigler's gentle orchestral score largely giving voice to the character's melancholy present, while a rich, well-chosen slate of vintage material by Billie Holiday, Duke Ellington, Benny Goodman and Glenn Miller imparts a restless energy to their youth. There's a certain schmaltz to much of Zigman's work here, yet cues like "House Blues/The Porch Dance.." and "Noah's Journey" argue he's achieved something more elusive than mere melodramatic wallpaper with the deceivingly difficult task at hand; it can't be easy to have your work seasoned with the likes of Ellington's sassy "Alabamy Home" and Goodman's still-vibrant "One O'Clock Jump." Sharply contrasting versions of "I'll Be Seeing You" by Holiday and Jimmy Durante bookend the soundtrack, perfectly evoking the story's alternating shades of hope and fading nostalgia and framing Zigman's understated work in the bargain. --Jerry McCulleyAlbum Description
Based on the best selling novel by Nicholas Sparks ("A Walk To Remember", "Message In A Bottle"), "The Notebook" is the story of Noah and Allie, teenage lovers torn apart by WWII and Allie's parents' demands to marry a respectable lawyer. After 14 years apart, they meet again and rekindle their true love. Starring Ryan Gosling, Rachel McAdams, James Garner, and Gena Rowlands. The soundtrack is a propelling force. In addition to classic WWII era pieces, Aaron Zigman's score suites enhance the record with beautifully dramatic themes. Score performed by the Hollywood Studio Symphony.Customer Reviews:

I also loved that a movie CAN be truly wonderful, beautiful and touching WITHOUT grafic "sex scenes!" Also sadly a rare thing in movies today.
Ever seen "Hanover Street?" Equally beautiful. No SEX scenes either!
