Creator/producer Joel Surnow's hit action-suspense series largely turns on an innovative fusion of real-time plot line delivered by aggressive camera work and multi-frame editing technique. But no small part of the show's intensely propulsive drive -- and much of its dramatic tension and atmospheric textures -- are consistently delivered by the music of young composer Sean Callery, who's won three straight Emmy nominations (winning once) for his contributions to the series. The composer personally selected and annotated the tracks for this anthology of his best work from the show's first three seasons, anchored by a complete version of the show's usually truncated theme. Though it shares similarities with Michael Giacchino's work on Alias, Callery's work here is consistently darker, an electro-organic fusion that spans tense, brooding orchestral passages and thrashing dollops of metallic-edged techno. Yet the composer also delivers moments of melodic, almost mournful solitude, while the third season's story line inspires some evocative Latin influences as well. Callery's background in sound effects editing contributes much to the rich sonic textures here, yielding a pioneering approach that portends a bright future for the composer. --Jerry McCulley

5 out of 5 stars 24 Soundtrack.......2007-06-02

For fans of Sean Callery's work on 24, this CD is a must have. This soundtrack is also very enjoyable on long drives, and it brings you right into the show.

5 out of 5 stars LOVE 24 MUSIC.......2007-02-11

It was wonderful. As alway Sean Callery's music is outstanding. When you listen to it you can remember the scenes from 24. I would highy recomend it.

3 out of 5 stars I wish..........2006-12-04

Sean Callery wrote incredibly beautiful pieces of music to underline the Tony/Michelle relationship. These are not on the cd. Although there are wonderful pieces of music(my personal favourite is the truly moving "The bomb detonates") I wish it were more complete.

5 out of 5 stars A review from a soundtrack composer groupie.......2006-11-15

As I am writing this review, I have already ordered the "24:Season 4 & 5" soundtrack. (The follow-up to this CD) I was so excited to find out that Sean Callery was producing a second CD for fans of "24".

As the title of this review indicates, I own several soundtracks from various TV series and movies. Out of all of them, I believe this is my favorite. It is no wonder that Sean has won two Emmy's for his work on "24".

One of the great things about this CD is being able to hear the show's theme in it's entirety. The other most noteable tracks for me are "Jack's Revenge At The Docks" and "The Bomb Detonates"....I guess because of the scenes that they accompanied. My other favorites...."Palmer's Theme" (reminds me of "Fanfare For A Common Man") and "Coliseum Finale" (when I listen to this one, I can actually see Mrs. Palmer running through the LA Coliseum....as fast as the beat will take her.)

If you are a fan or "24" or a fan of great music, you NEED to get this CD!!

5 out of 5 stars A excellent score for a excellent TV drama!.......2006-11-12

This score is one of the most emotional and well composed scores there is. The upbeat track really get you excited, while the softer, quieter track really get you into the emotion of the show. This CD is a great addition to any collection. You will not be sorry for buying this CD!

3 out of 5 stars It took more than great singles to make Disconnect great..........2004-03-09

I love Iris, and it truly kills me to give this album only 3 stars, but that's what I feel this CD is deserving of. Don't get me wrong--if you liked "Disconnect", you'll also like this, and you'll want to have this if you have ANY desire to own any of the singles released off of Disconnect; as they are VERY expensive and you'll only get about 4 tracks on one them for the price of this CD, which seems to cover most of the rare material and then some. It's also nice to hear the non-album track, 'Everybody is life'.

What makes this CD a bit lackluster in my opinion are two factors, both of which cost them a star.

First off, it's not comprehensive. There are 3 different mixes of 'Annie, would I lie to you' while other songs are completely left out. Where is 'Loom' or my favorites; 'The picture', 'Waves crash in' or 'Twilight'? Yes, I know that these tracks are not singles but this wasn't really released as a singles album either. This is a remix album, and judging by their choice of title, it's not hard to be mislead into thinking that this will be a reworking of the ENTIRE album. And, judging by the remix of another great non-single track; 'Endless", which is absolutely gorgeous and totally revamped with new( and better ) lyrics, it would have been very beneficial to include any sort of new version of these tracks. It would have made this CD a lot better.

The other thing that brings this down another notch is the fact that the remixes--though not bad, pretty much all fall short of the originals and don't mix things up all that much. The only mixes here that made me want to listen more intently are the T.O.Y mix of 'Annie would I lie to you', the absolutely Jaw dropping new version of 'Endless', the first edit of 'Lose in wanting', and 'Danger is the shame'. All the others simply cannot compare to the originals and don't sound terribly different; just faster paced.

All and all, this CD is not a waste of money. You'll at least enjoy parts of it and it's a great companion CD to go along with Disconnect, but it simply cannot compare to it's predecessor. The absence of 4 great songs really goes to show that it took more than just the singles to make Disconnect as great as it is, and that the original is usually always better. If you don't own Disconnect and are considering this, buy the latter first instead.

5 out of 5 stars Highly Recommended..........2004-02-17

...everything is great on this album. What really impressed me is the re-working of "Waves Crash In". Believe it or not, I was walking in the mall the other day and the local Abercrombie and Fitch was playing the Distant World Remix of "The Way I Live My Life" at a very loud volume. This one remix is almost worth the price of the entire album if you are an Iris fan. Somebody at that chain must have good taste in music - at least mometarily.

4 out of 5 stars Excellent remixes to Iris' already outstanding songs.......2003-10-10

Iris' Disconnect album is one of my favorite synthpop/ebm albums of all time. So naturally when I heard about this follow-up remix album I jumped at the opportunity to get it. Reconnect is a collection of remixes taken from out of print singles, plus a couple of new mixes by bands like T.O.Y. and Neuroactive. Most of the songs are high bpm "club" mixes, and while few of them rival the original versions, they offer an interesting perspective to Iris' existing hits. Usually remix albums are faceless and fail to produce even one or two truly memorable tracks, but Reconnect is a sturdy listen all the way through...each track flowing into the next rather well. The only track that doesn't seem to fit is the demo version of Saving Time torward the end of the album, which is too similar to the original. Overall though, Reconnect is an outstanding collection of mixes no fan of the band should miss.

      Album Description

Debut single from the Dublin based pop band. the band make meticulously crafted pop brimming with pointed hooks and astute instrumentation that simmers to perfection under the distinct vocals of songwriter Moloney. Taking their musical cues from their early encounters with the classic songwriting of The Beatles, Steely Dan and Randy Newman, Director cite Beck, Grandaddy, Muse and The Strokes, as some of their modern day influences. Director's music is pop simplicity at its best: boisterous energy mixed with melodic sensibility. "Music is meant to excite people, it's there for people to enjoy. That's what we try to focus on" notes Aherne. Atlantic. 2006.
