Beautiful songs sung with clarity, interpretive artistry and attention to blend. Some of the more particularly lyrical songs (e.g. Zgodava's Out of Oriental Crystal Skies, and Paulus' Sing Hallelu to name two) are not found in more common choral album Christmas repertoires and are a delight to experience for the first time.

A fine garage rock release.......2003-12-24

The Green Crystal Ties Series was released in 1998 on Collectables, and there were ten volumes.
The consistency of the typical Green Crystal Ties volume varies considerably. Also, the liner notes usually tend to over-hype the material included on the disc. On all counts, Vol. 1 is one of the better entries in the series. On this volume, all of the acts were from Texas. The release was consistent overall, and I will go over some highlights. The Bad Seeds' had the excellent 'A Taste of the Same.' Written by Michael Taylor, 'A Taste of the Same' was a Stones-influenced composition, with rugged guitar riffs, and a moody bridge. Michael (Taylor's) later tracks on the collection were folk based and had decent melodies, but (in the case of 'People See IV' especially) had obtuse lyrics not quite up to par. The Illusions offer a hard driving rendition of 'Gloria' and a decent organ based rocker 'Try.' The Outlaws have a fine Byrdsy song 'Worlds Apart' featuring a memorable melody and chiming 12-string. The best song on the collection though, belongs to the Zakary Thaks. 'Face to Face' was a first-rate psychedelic track featuring catchy melodies, full production, and stunning electric guitar work from John Lopez. It was a big hit in Texas, but national promotion was limited. A case could be made that 'Face to Face' should have been the track to represent the Thaks' spot on the 4-disc Nuggets compilation in place of the also very good 'Bad Girl.' The Liberty Bell had two fine tracks as well, though the other Thaks offshoot group Kubla Kahn was less impressive. If one desires to wade further into the deep waters of 60's garage rock, the Green Crystal Ties series may not be consistent, but has many a fine track to offer. Volume 1 is one of the better ones of the series, and recommended.

Good Garage Grunge from the 60s.......1998-07-12

18 tracks from 8 different bands (mostly from Texas): Bad Seeds, Zakary Thaks, Illusions, Outlaws, Liberty Bell, Nomads, Michael, Kubla Khan. The liner notes provide some background on the bands, although sometimes there is not much known about them. The Zakary Thaks were from Corpus Christi, Texas. When the Byrds or Animals came to town they might be the local band to open for them. Though the packaging emphasizes the psychedelic many of the tracks are pop or punk or even folkish. I like the variety and found all the tracks listenable. The quality of the recordings is comparable to what you find from that era. If you prefer your grunge from the 60s it's a buy. The CD gets filed on the same rack as Pebbles, Mindrocker, Highs in the Mid-60s.

Great EP.......2001-11-20

Cary Pierce is one of the gretest singer songwriters to come around in along time. This album shows just some of his talent I wish there was more but this is one album that never leaves the car.Check out "You Are Here" as well. This is Acoustic Rock/Folk/Pop at its best.

Pierce returns with a handful of new demos and live tunes.......2001-03-28

Cary Pierce gives fans what they want - more of him - with "Foreverything, Vol. 1," a collection of five new home demos and a live version of "She's Gone Move On."

Of the five new demos, all of which are previously unreleased and very well produced, "Time to Time" and "Speed" are the strongest, balancing strong pop-rock influences with Pierce's constantly improving songwriting. "Time to Time" is light pop in the vein of Pierce's solo debut "You Are Here." Tons of electric guitars and drum machine-style percussion. "Speed" is a very nice throwback to Pierce's acoustic days with Jackopierce. Just Pierce, his voice, and his guitar. Ah, bliss.

The other demos include "Absence of Love," "You've Got a Lover," and "Miracle." Fans of Pierce will not be disappointed with these three songs, either, though they fall more on the side of "Time to Time" than they do on the side of "Speed."

The live version of "She's Gone Move On" is just Pierce and his acoustic guitar. It is much mellower than the original version of the song off "You Are Here" and lacks the original's energy. Pierce seems more hung up on the girl live and it sounds like his conviction is just not there. Not bad, but it gives the song a much different feel.

The real drawback with "Foreverything, Vol. 1" is length. The album is a tease, leaving you wanting to hear a full album's worth of songs. Hopefully "Foreverything, Vol. 2" is not far behind.

Amazing........2000-08-18

I have had this compilation CD for at least 3 years now and I STILL am not tired of it. I do not carry this CD with me when I travel because I enevitably end up driving 80 miles and hour, which, in my vehicle is emminently dangerous. What I know about techno and/or dance music would fill a thimble, but I can tell you when a song rocks, and that's what we have here.

Definitely most solid of the Three compilations.......2000-05-17

I bought this CD waay back when it first came out while browsing for electronic music at Borders. At the time, i was really into Europop, but i wanted to expand my horizons just a bit (and i wanted to seem cool by knowing stuff others didnt know).

This CD, even to this day, remains one of the favorites in my 200-odd albums. I popped it in recently, and i marveled at how much electronic music has changed in a scant 3 years. That's when i realized Plasic Compilations are damned good at picking out the tracks that best suit the time.

This CD is solid from start to end (i love the Sarah Maclachlan remixes even tho i am not too big a fan of hers). It's mostly big beat stuff (think: Fatboy Slim and Chemical Brothers style music). There is not one Trance track on this album.

Heh. I've become so accustomed to the flighty melodic tunes (sometimes lacking any soul) of Trance that i forgot what really attracted me to electronic music in the first place...that gritty feeling that makes you boogy, that puts u on edge, and which is an alternative to the sometimes non-creative rock scene (remember all those look-alike Grunge bands?).

If you're looking for Solid Electronic music from other bands, check out Fatboy Slim's "Better Living thru Chemistry", Crystal Method's album, anything by The Chemical Brothers, Moby's "Play".

For solid trance tracks check out anything by BT, Paul Van Dyk, Faithless. Sash also puts out some good stuff, but he steals other people's melodies so that marks him down a bit.

Hands down the best of the three, an excellent comp.......2000-05-15

The Plastic series does a good job of picking quality hits, such as Underworld's remarkable "Pearl's Girl," The Chemical Brothers "Loops of Fury" and Propellerheads "Take California." They also include a few club-friendly hits for the masses, such as the mandatory Sarah McLachlan remixes (you get two decent, if unremarkable ones) or Garbage. Then they round it out with some kinda-known gems that add the real value to the package: Meat Beat Manifesto's "She's Unreal," a good Crystal Method track not on their Vegas album, and God Within's "Raincry."

There's not a clunker in the bunch (barring the McLachlan stuff) making this a choice pick-up and to date the best of the 3 volumes in the Plastic series.

Plastic Rocks.......1998-10-07

This cd is the greatest compilation of techno-rock ever gathered. Do not hesitate to purchase this cd if you are any kind of a techno fan. I had never listened to techno before I purchased this cd. I considered it a bunch of super repetative, computer generated sound garbage. But I had some spare cash, and, in a pinch of time, bought it. I am so glad that I did! Hesitate no longer...Purchase this cd NOW!!!

You can't sit still while listening to this terrific compilation of technopop/trance tunes! This is a must-have CD for those interested in hearing the most recent and most funky remixes emerging from the dance floors.

Album Description

Theodor Blumer (1881-1964) writes in a Romantic style. He is a German composer who lived most of his life in Dresden, Leipzig, and Berlin. The music is extremely attractive and recently has drawn much interest from American audiences.

The Moran Woodwind Quintet is in-residence at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln School of Music. This is the group's third CD on the Crystal label.
