5 tracks on this CD but was bought for "Saltwater". Danced many nights to this tune but never knew the name. Saw the video and looked it up here on Amazon. B I N G O How a person can float with a beat is beyond me. This is pure EURO TRANCE! The vocals will stay with you and the limited breaks will bring you back for more.

Chicane's "Saltwater" in my opinion is the best trance song of all time. I first heard this song in 1999 on Ministry of Sounds Clubbers Guide to Ibiza or something like that. The combination of Marie Brennans Voice and Chicanes breakdowns and build ups will bring tears to your eye's. If there is one song that could ever move someone it is this track. GET IT!

If only for one song 'Autumn Tactics' Chicane takes me away.......2002-04-20

I got this single originaly for the 'Saltwater' track which was great (and still is), but as things progressed, there were 2 other songs in this as well on this single, Don't give up & Autumn Tactics. I immediately fell in love with 'Autumn Tactics' (the Chicane's End of Summer Remix) which is a B' side to this cd single. It made me dust off those old 'out of body experience' books purchased here at amazon.com and made me enter the Astral realm. This cd single can be found in my dvd or cd player a couple times a week. For maximum efficiency I had to get 2 copies just incase 1 got lost (I didn't want to panic). Also get the 12" vinyl single (liked that as well), unlike the cd single it has the 'Autumn Tactics' thrillseekers remix as a b side. 'Saltwater' taste very good.

Pure shores..!.......2002-03-19

Bliss towards the future....! In a few words to describe this cd is, that it sends us all into a state of bliss, and elation. The hauntingly beautiful vocals on the original version brings shivers all over, with such melodic riffs. The only drawback which I thought were, that two remixes were absent on the US version, the "Mothership Mix"of Saltwater, and the "Thrillseekers Remix" of Autumn Tactics which I've heard a sound sample, and in my opinion stands out the most...All in all, the remixes of Don't Give Up, are very powerful and melodic. The "Peter Rauhofer Roxy Anthem" has a more hard house, feel, and the "Johnny Vicous Club Mix" is more towards hard trance,and progressive house...

Escellent trance.......2001-08-10

This CD single is a bargain You get five songs: 2 remixes of Saltwater, 2 of Don't Give Up and one of Autumn Tactics. Both Saltwater versions are amazing. The first is softer, with lovely vocals by Marie Brennan. The second has a bit faster, harder beat, but is perhaps more danceable; both are amazing, among my favorite songs. You'll feel swept away and envellopped, like you're floating. The second remix of Don't Give Up is also really good. It listened to it twice and didn't think much of it, but I never really got into the song. When I finally listened to the whole thing I was blown away. The beat is good and the synthesizers/keyboard (whatever it is) is out of this world. Absolutely amazing. Get this album!! The other two songs are pretty mellow and unimpressive next to the others, but honestly, this album is worth it just for the three other songs. It is a must have single at a great price. You'll listen over and over, and it will not loose it's power.

This is my favorite "backdeck relaxation" CD. The sounds are perfect when I'm in the mood to drink a couple of cold ones and chill out while my dinner sizzles on the pit. These guys are in tune with the new sounds of alternative country and mix it up with a little rock and roll. I highly reccommend this CD and look forward to the next one.

... I am a huge fan of Gary Flood and the Wharfratts. Face it people, Jimmy Buffet is long gone. This is the new Jimmy upcomming Buffet. Diverse Collection of Gratifying Sounds.......2002-11-14

What a gathering together of sounds including oboe, english horn, flute, piano, percussion, harp, bass, and synthesizer.
Even frogs, crickets, coyotes grace this CD, making it a calming and excellent listening piece.

All focused around the well played DR's of Caplan.

Especially enjoyed the William Gtrant Still miniatures and the Ysef Lateef blues number.

Steve Caplan and his oboe do great things for ones' ear. It is the talent of Dr. Caplan that makes this CD work. The entire music is based upon oboes having a "conversation" with different animals in the forest. It is great for relaxation. Go out and buy it.....

Dr. Caplan is a professor at the music department of the UNLV. He is also part of the Las Vegas Philharmonics. He is an accomplished musician.....

A Tree In Your Ear.......2000-10-04

This is a "must-have" for music lovers - especially those who enjoy the beautiful tones of the oboe and english horn. This CD is a diverse mix of styles that presents newer (but very accessible!) composers as well as those that are more established (William Grant Still and Alan Hovhaness, not to mention the "Saltwater Blues" by jazz great Yusef Lateef...) all brilliantly performed by Stephen Caplan who has a list of credentials and awards too long to list. Satisfaction guaranteed!

Where is the set of the video?.......2006-05-17

Hey guys, I remember listening to Clannad about 8-9yrs ago when my Mum introduced me to it, now im 19 and have explored many genres of music and by far the most satisfying is trance/ambience and Im just wondering as I am a diehard surfer and an enthusiast of water/sea, where was the set of the video filmed too? It looks fantastic and I wouldn't mind just going for the buzz of it.


Chicane is fantastic, from tom jones to bryan adams, you can't get more prestigous artists to work with and it justifies his musical talents and his undying determination for really awesome music!

This song is great. It's soothing and you can dance to it. It takes you in a trance and makes you fall in love. It kinda like reminded me of "Pure Shores" by All Saints. The vocals R great, and so is the original mix, that appears to have some little hints at really light drum 'n' bass in a trance package. I'll always love it.

Inspired by the reviews I read here, I went ahead and acquired Chicane's 1999 hit single, Saltwater. All 3 mixes proved to be refreshing listening after listening to the likes of Alice Deejay/ATB. Chicane's musical abilities shine in Mix # 2, a good example of an excellent mix of an already excellent song (Theme from Harry's game). I await similar mixes of Enya's music....Chicane/Ferry Corsten/ATB....are you listening????

I've been a fan of Chicane ever since I heard offshore. Saltwater is one of my favourite songs from last year. I love the Vocals of Marie Brennan (with samples from Clanads Harry's Theme). The beat picks up and slows down through out the whole song. It's just awesome. We do a radio show in Tampa, Florida, and I rememeber when we first played this track, the phones went red hot. We get requests for this song all the time now.

such amazing pop.......2001-02-26

the black watch create such amazing pop--in the vein of My Bloody Valentine (but more acoustic-oriented and with strings), XTC (but more smooth, less quirky), and Moose (but much less twangy--more lush and at the same time more rockin'). "Caroline" and "All the Stars are Jewel-Bright" are great upbeat happy pop with dozens of dirty guitars and hum-along choruses; "Bring Me the Shears!" is like an excellent outtake from MBV's "Isn't Anything" era, there's a ripping version of Gordon Lightfoot's "If you could read my mind". this records just goes on and on--it's spacey and beatuiful and quiet like Yo La Tengo too. Very obscure band (but getting better and better known all the time), very awesome pop.

Another brilliant record.......2001-01-16

Lime Green Girl is a return to the full band sound of earlier Black Watch records like "Amphetamines" and "Seven Rollercoasters", with J'Anna Jacoby back in fold as a true member of the band (1999's King of Good Intentions, even though it featured J'Anna on a few tracks, almost seemed like a John Andrew Frederick solo album).

Lime Green Girl gets off to a great start, with the mid-tempo "Caroline" and its grimy (but not dirty) guitars and understated melody, which reminds me somewhat of "This Way Out" - era Idaho. The next song "Bring Me The Shears", my current favorite track, has heartstopping chorus that digs into my brain every time I hear it. The rest of the album prety much follows the lead of these two songs - alternating between woozy post-shoegaze ("I Remember Swimming") to frenetic indie-pop (for lack of a better term) workouts like "Purple Milk and Yr. Pink Sky" and "Cellophane". All in all, Lime Green Girl is another near-perfect gem of an album from one of the most overlooked bands on Earth.

Oh, and as a bonus, Lime Green Girl also contains seven classic Black Watch songs from all four of the group's previous albums, which is a perfect initiation for those who are hearing Black Watch for the first time. In all, to quote Jack Rabid (in so many words) of Big Takeover fame, this album is imperative listening for those who think literate and heartfelt, yet gutsy, pop music is a thing of the past; This record will change your mind.
