El album completo es para no dejar de bailar y morir de cansancio. Este viene dividido en dos partes. La primera es el 1er. album de Mike Theodore Orchestra: "Cosmic Wind", incluye las versiones originales y completas de este clasico de 1977. La 2da. parte se trata de "High On A Mad Mountain" de 1979. Estoy totalmente convencido que "High..." es un disco mucho mas solido que el antecesor y su sonido mas poderoso en todos los aspectos, la instrumentacion y las vocales son mis aspectos favoritos.

No puedo creer que haya existido tanta perfeccion en el album de 1979, es un verdadero clasico de la disco y la remasterizacion es estremecedora.

Much better than we think.......2004-04-09

Both of these records are classics, but I have a real soft spot for the "Cosmic Wind" album. While "Mad Mountain" has tracks that are harder, "The Bull" and "I Love The Way You Move" are totally cool and absolutely essential. Former Motown player Dennis Coffey and Theodore himself but together a duo of great albums here, and we're lucky that the notoriously out of touch Westbound label actually allowed them to get reissued. The Tom Moulton mix on Cosmic doubles the price of admission, and are an absolute must for anyone who loves the Salsoul sound with a different twist..

The Peak for High On Mad Mountain.......2002-05-13

This is the best DISCO record made,but only for the 'High On Mad Mountain' album, 'Cosmic Winds' is weak, sure there are other so called disco could be better rated, the song and album 'That's Where The Happy People Go' by Trammps, 'The Glow Of Love' by Change, but this is DISCO, and the best of all the DETROIT type.

there are two albums on this cd. cosmic wind is from 1977, and i give it only 3 stars. it's a classic disco album, worth listening to. trouble is that the orchestra is to much dominant for my taste. i like my disco to be wicked, full of wha wha guitars and clavinets or synths. and that's where the second album on this cd enters the picture. the second album, high on mad mountain, from 1979 - is a true bumping funkster. this is hardcore wicked disco at it's best!!! i only wish that amazon would attach some sound samples, just so you can know what i'm talking about...

Bouncy and Groovy.......2003-05-20

Superb party music that always has me bouncing around.
Positive vibe and freaky music which is what I think house music is about. Now I got to get another copy because mine is all weared out. Although it might sound dated now, it's still a great release in my opinion. Awesome track selection and truly unbelievable

I wanted to like it, but sadly this one comes up a short!.......2003-05-16

I still to this day go see Derrick spinning records as much as humanly possible (and I'm getting up there in years!), but this simply wasn't his greatest effort. Any of his old mix tapes far surpass this mix, so if this CD is your only exposure to Derrick Carter, you are not gettin' the goods!

Derrick Carter is truly an artist and the best live venue DJ going. Do yourself a favor and see him live sometime in Chicago!

With Derrick Carter's mixes, the boundaries between songs vanish. The man mixes two records for a looong time -- one providing the bang, the other the swing. Vocals, horns, basslines and pianos flit in and out of the mix, and unless you own the vinyl yourself, it takes a long time to figure out where it's all coming from.

There are DJs who are a little cleaner than Derrick (not many), but none who are more inventive and ambitious. He's putting together a symphony made out of wacked-out house music.

I'd say the previous reviewer was mistaken: this CD is a pale imitation of bootleg tapes that are out there. That being said, chances are good that this will be the best mix CD you own.

If you aren't impressed with Derrick Carter, you just don't know house music. I can't wait for another CD release so I can enjoy being blown away all over again.

This cd is a true representation of Derrick. Those of you unable to get ahold of the countless bootleged live sets can take heart with this one. Unlike the 'Many Shades of Cajual' release of years back, this one lets Derrick choose from spectrum of music, not limited to a specific label as some DJ cd require. While nothing equals seeing the master live, this cd does equal tapes that often float around. The songs are 3 years old now, but Derrick (and Chicago) has always been about 3 years ahead of Mainstream trends (and they both ALWAYS set the trend!)

Hardcore P-Funk fans: Avoid this compilation.......2006-07-23

I got this CD for only one reason---to get the long version of One Nation Under A Groove on CD finally--the one with the extended Michael Hampton guitar solo that is sorely missing on the original LP/CD. This CD says One Nation is the 12" version, but it is identical to the regular version on the original release. Also, Oh I is incorrectly titled on this collection, it is in fact Shockwaves. Avoid this junk, just buy the original CDs out already.

A 2 Album Compilation.......2006-11-17

The only albums this draws from are "Uncle Jam Wants You" and "The Electric Spanking". There are better compilations of the later Funkadelic years (post-Westbound, 1976-1981). And WHY is Bootsy's photo on a Funkadelic compilation? That is a dead giveaway that this was put together for those who don't know the difference between Parliament and Funkadelic, Parlet from the Brides, the Horny Horns from the Sweat Band. Admittedly, there was a lot of overlap, but put a photo of Garry in a diaper or George by himself if this cd is to be truly representative of Funkadelic. Peace.

Funkadelic, the later years.......2002-05-01

People looking for an all-inclusive Funkadelic retrospective should not expect to find it in this album. This "Greatest Hits" is just that; a collection of the most popular songs from Funkadelic's last 3-4 albums. By the late 70s, Parliament and Funkadelic sounded basically the same, and the music on this cd shows it; the slick, bouncy, discofunk of Funkadelic '78 was a very different music from the eclectic rock/funk/Motown starchildren of the band's Westbound career. If you want to sample that side of the band, pick up their Westbound Records 2-disc singles collection.
Caveat aside, there's some supremely righteous funk on this disc. "One Nation Under a Groove," "Cholly," "Not Just Knee Deep"--all classics. Pick up this CD if you want some clever, danceable music for your booty shakin' pleasure.

True Cosmic Funk.......2001-01-01

This CD represents the beginning of Cosmic Funky Rock N Roll. George Clinton borrowed the funk (and several musicians) from the Godfather of Soul, James Brown. He used these musicians a bit different from JB, however. JB was quite strict on & off stage. GC was just the opposite. Quite loose. You can tell on "Oh, I" and other tunes on this CD such as "One Nation Under A Groove", that these boys were "high" on something. They don't deny that they were often drinking or smoking while recording these classic tunes. Like Jimi Hendrix, however, the drugs probably enhanced the sounds and made the overall productions quite spacey &, indeed, quite funky. On "Funk Get's Stronger", Sly Stone adds his trippy vocals and style to help GC & the boys come up with another stone classic. The quitarisms of Mike Hampton and the bass of Bootsy Collins puts the "Funk Stamp" on this CD as well. You would want to pick up this CD up ASAP. Funk On, bobba...
