The 2007 entry in Armin Van Buuren's State of Trance series takes awhile to get going, but eventually kicks in with the blissful epics that have made him one of the world's most popular DJs. On mix records, Van Buuren usually expresses the two sides of his DJ personality via the two-disc format; disc one is filled with frothy vocal trance, the other is populated with more progressive material. SoT 2007 stays true to form. This time out though, there's an obvious disparity in quality between the two. Van Buuren goes downright cheesy for his lighter disc one (called "on the beach"), and with a few fleeting exceptions like Kalopsia's "The Blizzard," it's pretty forgettable. However, the second, more progressive disc ("in the club") improves noticeably as AVB leads off with two self-produced bombs "Miserere" and "Rush Hour." It still has a high cheese level to be sure, but its excesses are cut with relative dark matter like the lovely mashup in the middle of the disc, consisting primarily of Reh Mundi's "Perspective" and Ronski Speed's "The Space We Are." As with contemporaries like DJ Tiësto, Van Buuren seems to believe he needs to be all things to all people, but his more commercial instincts are too pronounced here, leaving his more devoted fan base with only half a mix to enjoy. --Matthew CookeAlbum Description
Van Buuren is one of the biggest names in dance music and the current #3 DJ in the world (as voted by a DJ Mag poll). He continually pushes the bar with fresh trance sounds. This is the next chapter in his annual mix album series; a two-disc continuous mix of this year's hottest trance tunes from a stellar lineup. Alongside Armin's superior mixing skills, "A State Of Trance" is an inspiring and uplifting aural experience.Customer Reviews:
Fantastic.......2007-07-25
I read some of the other reviews before I listened to the album. I agree that disc one, "On the Beach", is much more of a mellow trance; and of course, the name of the disc implies this. Most of the tracks are excellent--I just have to be in a certain mood to enjoy this time of trance.
I absolutely loved the second disc, "In the Club". The tracks are out of this world! I was listening to it during my boring commute and was loving it. Track 12 flipped on, and all of a sudden, the whole album just seemed a hundred times better to me. Tracks 12 through 16 make up my personal favorite trance mix I've ever been exposed to out of all of my favorite DJ's--Tiesto, Buuren, PVD, and Micro. This made me feel 100% secure in giving the entire album five stars!
Not as good as the previous state's of trance.......2007-07-22
Just buy it now!.......2007-07-20
On a serious note, I have listened to this set a zillion times. You will want to also if you buy this. Love it.
Armin at his best!!.......2007-07-20
I wholeheartedly agree with the majority of my fellow-reviewers who stated that this is Armin's best release yet. "A State of Trance 2006" was also very good, but Armin outdid himself this time.
I won't repeat the comments of former reviews, but I would add that I was surprised that no one referred (when pointing out their favorite tracks) to the amazing club hit "I Am" by Markus Schulz vs. Chakaa. I found it to be absolutely phenomenal and IMHO that track, not "Evergreen," marks the transition between the first and second half of CD2.
There was one track on CD1 that I didn't care for ("Wouldn't Change a Thing"); the vocals just didn't appeal to me. And on CD2 I considered tracks 6 & 7 ("Perspective" & "The Space We Are") to be fillers. Am I complaining? Far from it, for the other 25 tracks were sweet to the ear and will bring any trance fan (especially those who love vocal, melodic, and high energy trance) to a state of audio nirvana.
I believe this is, by far, the best 2 CD set released this year. But I have ordered the much-anticipated "Nightmusic, Vol. 2" by Thrillseekers, and if that release equals or surpasses Nightmusic, Vol. 1, it will give Armin some tough competition.
Very disappointed..........2007-07-19

Tiësto sticks to his guns on a new album of original compositions that follows 2004's Just Be. Elements of Life strikes a satisfying balance between inventive vocal tracks and signature trance stormers: "Ten Seconds Before Sunrise," "Driving to Heaven," and "Bright Morning Star" all glow with the Dutchman's epic sound, one that is simultaneously haunting and uplifting. On the vocal side, the soaring energy of "Break My Fall," which features BT on vocals, will not disappoint fans of the duo's prior work on "Just Be" and other collaborations. To be sure, there are a number of less convincing pieces as well: "Dance4Life" with Faithless's Maxi Jazz falls flat, and the lyrics of "Can You Feel Me" prove that the genre's reputation for banal wordsmithing is not entirely undeserved. For the most part, however, these weaker moments are outweighed by the stronger tracks. Principal among these is undoubtedly "Sweet Things"--in which Charlotte Martin's vocal high-wire act is complemented by some exceptional programming--a track that is sure to receive a great many spins by DJs around the globe and yet further proof that when it comes to bringing alive the female voice for the dancefloor, Tiësto remains without equal. All in all, it's a safe bet that many of Tiësto's Elements will be making their way into DJ crates and MP3 players alike. --Brent KallmerAlbum Description
Tiësto is undeniably one of the greatest DJ talents of this era. Internationally recognized as the world's premier DJ and producer, Tiësto continually takes electronic music to the next level - pushing boundaries with his addictive and creative trance creations. With his prior album releases enjoying outstanding success in the States, the time has come for his next installment: ELEMENTS OF LIFE. This record includes brilliant collaborations from the likes of BT, Maxi Jazz (Faithless) and other incredible female vocalists; a stunning collection of uplifting trance ensues. Supporting this release with performances at Coachella, WMC and an extensive national tour through Summer 07, Elements of Life will be THE electronic album of 2007.Customer Reviews:

Ferry Corsten - Passport to the USA.......2007-06-28
Passport USA is solid but never really reaches epic trance status. It gets in the ballpark, but never really made me go "wow" for any extended period of time. Plus you're paying quite a bit of money for only one disc of music. I could do without the DVD if the album cost less.
There are TONS of other trance/ dance/ electronica discs out there. I would skip this and get Armin van Buuren's "A State of Trance 2007" instead.

Amazingly Thrilling Rollercoaster Ride!.......2007-06-15
When I first bought this CD I thought I was making a mistake because I never heard of "The Thrillseekers", who apparently is one guy, not the assumed two-three DJ's. However, I should never judge trance by it's jewel case anymore. This CD amazed me and I'm starting to like the Nightmusic series better than In Search of Sunrise and A State of Trance. We'll see what happens in the second volume coming out this month.

Long Awaited, and a Fantastic DVD.......2007-07-16
As others have noted, RITM is best experienced as a live act. The music is brought to life through the larger-than-life, kabuki theater-like performance and vocalizations of Bunny (Steve Eachon). Perhaps RITM are destined to become the Grateful Dead of modern Techno, as every show is different, and devoted fans follow their shows, and see them again and again, noting the slight changes to the mixes and song selections, and the ever evolving and exciting Bunny Experience.
With that in mind, it is only natural that they would include a DVD that included some of their live material, along with new and creative original video along with the CD.
The quality of the video and audio on this package is flawless and very entertaining for old and new Rabbit fans. One can only hope that they gather momentum from this release to tour heavily, and release another album of completely new material within the next 18 months. The newer material also has more vocals by Bunny, which I find to be an excellent trend which they should continue to develop in their music and live shows.
A great release from a the legendary RITM!.......2007-07-13
but is a classic and couldn't be excluded) but then there's a brand new mix of O.B.E. that, correct me if I'm wrong, has never been released before. (And I own the original Phases O.B.E. 12" record). I love the new mix of that song, and I think it's a great album, even though every single song doesn't thrill me. But even with this CD, some of the older RITM songs that I never really liked much before, like Dubbasex for example, listened carefully and given them another chance, and found they are actually very subtle and beautiful songs.
There is more newer material on the album than some reviewers let on, in fact well over half of it is new. There are a few ommissions, IMO, for example I would have liked to see "Electro Accupuncture" on this CD, but then again that has been released before on a CD, still I think it would have fit in well here though as well. I love the DVD the most, because it reminds me why I've been such a huge fan for so many years, with probably about 7 shows under my belt. To all the fans out there, buy this album! Show your support! Remember the old Zen Festial 96-97 shows, with Bunny, in his disco-ball suit, being lowered by a cable from the ceiling! remember how you felt at those times. They have earned our suport! To those folks new to the electronica genre, this is a good glimpse into understanding the engima that is Rabbit in the Moon... RITM so much more than can possible be described in one album, album review, DVD, magazine article, or antyhing else. There's a whole history and culture behind these guys'one-of-a-kind stlye of performance art, and I think this release captures the essence of it almost as best you could with the amount of material provided. Buy it for the DVD, but then take the audio CD, put in in your car stereo, put on track 8, and crank it up!
Great yet lacking.......2007-07-12
Finally!.......2007-07-12

Amazon.com's Best of 1999
Those who have followed Moby's career are familiar by now with his deep convictions and spiritual connection. On his 1999 release, Play, he celebrates his faith in a masterful, unobtrusive way, channeling gospel and other inspirational samples through beats so earthy they could grow grass on a cement dance floor. It's impossible to separate the joy of the message from the joy of the grooves. --Beth MassaAmazon.com essential recording
The great iconoclast of techno returns with a smooth, sacred, and exhilarating record. Play's concoction of breakbeat rhythms, ambient mixology, and inspired blues and gospel samples cry out across musical genres and histories, imparting a time-tested wisdom to beat-driven ears. Moby's devout faith--in both God and his own musical whims--give this approach a sort of legitimacy that another, less sincere artist would never have. That sincerity reverberates through the beats and instrumental eclecticism like a pulse. The soulful refrains and proclamations in "Find My Baby" and "Natural Blues" somehow nestle between straight-up dance-floor rave-ups ("Bodyrock") and melt-in-your-mouth ambience ("Inside") with an effortless grace. Moby reaches across his turntables and finds something pure--almost organic. In fact, the album feels more natural than techno is ever supposed to feel, more spiritual than what DJs are supposed to be able to muster, and more alive than it has any right to be. --Matthew CookeCustomer Reviews:

One of the Great Albums of the 90's.......2007-04-24
HONEY, WHY DOES MY HEART FEEL SO BAD, BODYROCK, RUSHING, RUN ON, NATURAL BLUES, EVERLOVING, GUITAR FLUTES AND STRING, PORCELAIN, FIND MY BABY, SOUTHSIDE and MACHETE are standouts. PORCELAIN may be overplayed as I see it listed on most chillout albums, including PURE MOODS 3 but there is no denying it is a great song. SOUTHSIDE is the other big hit but it does not really need Gwen Stefani's guest vocal and some other songs do tend to repeat the one line over and over (HONEY, FIND MY BABY, WHY DOES MY HEART...) but they never sound motonous. But the album is more creative than most today and this guy is very versatile with different styles of music. My favourite way to listen to the album is to delete the four tracks mentioned above that i do not care for and then let the album play. It is beautiful, raw, soulful and edgy all at once.
By the way skip the liner notes. Moby pours forth about his beliefs on various topics and I for one don't really care. I am interested in some of the issues he talks about but it does come accross as a little bit preachy. Just create more great music. Below are track listing and times. Some have an A+ rating to show my favourites.

Cheesy and predictable .......2007-06-17
I have to admit Cascada's music is quite melodic. The pop hooks quickly got stuck in my head. It is hard not want to dance to this music. Unfortunately everything else sounds generic and lifeless. Cascada offers nothing new or original. Was it really necessary to cover that treacly Savage Garden ballad "Truly, Madly, Deeply"? I did though like their cover of Kim Wilde's "Kids in America" but how many times can that song be covered? Obviously not enough.
Cascada quickly reminded me why I no longer listen to vocal trance music any more. It all sounds the same. This genre needs to die quickly.
This Album will Leave You Speechless.......2007-06-04
Music for SCUM........2007-04-02
First of all - the actual music is AWFUL. Tinny, flat sound with as much depth, charm and passion as a Happy Meal. Dull, formulaic drivel that consists of cover after cover - take a famous song, strap a instantly dated techno beat behind it, get token blonde to sing the vocals and voila - one super-suck album.
As the official Room 101 of Amazon, The Curmudgeon has access to many exclusive things. And so here is an actual excert from the recording studio where this travesty was recorded...
"What's that? Oh - 'Truly Madly Deeply' - that's a song that people who don't actually like music will know - cover that. Oh, and Kim Wilde's 'Kids In America' - that's got a good chorus, hasn't it. Let's cover that too. 'How Do You Do' by Roxette. What the hell - cover it. We really are making a worthwhile and quality album here, aren't we? Pass the cocaine."
But like I said - it's not the actual music that is so abhorrent - its the image it brings when you first hear it, of the actual low-life, teenage single mother SCUM who will buy it.
You WILL hear this coming from some empty-headed yo-yo-knickered harlot's I-Pod. You WILL hear this coming from some clapped-out car full of thick kids in baseball caps. You WILL hate absolutely everyone who listens to this.
People who listen to this don't even know what music IS. Don't be one of them.

Album Description
The much anticipated NEW ALBUM containing 26 unreleased, all original songs by one of the world's premier DJs - ATB!
On this, his seventh album, ATB has succeeded in combining two worlds, without intermingling them unnecessarily. Trilogy's first disc ("Dance") provides the electronic and melodious ATB sound blended with a unique rock and pop crossover flavour. The second disc ("Chill"), on the other hand, offers the listener 14 super smooth tracks.
"Every album should have its own soul and a golden thread leading through all the songs. However, you only really feel the soul if you listen to all the songs together. If you mix up the faster and slower songs, that isn't going to work," explains Andre.

ATB's new sounds, and then some........2007-07-06
Great album...but does not reach "No silence" yet..........2007-06-26
The second CD, is definitely leaning towards dream music. very relaxing, excellent chillout tracks, perfect for a lazzy afternoon, or a quiet drive from the club at 4am.
4 stars only? well, rating is different for everybody, but to me, ATB really stood out with his previous album "No silence" and tracks like Ectasy, Marrakech, and others. IMHO this album is not as innovative and sort of surf on the same wave but no higher.
dont get me wrong though, it's still great music. I guess I'm just not as nicely surprised as with the "No silence" album. if you liked it, buy this one with your eyes closed.
ATB - Trilogy.......2007-06-25
On top of that, it's almost like buying 2 completely different, separate artists' albums. That said, both of Trilogy's discs are good at what they set out to do.
Disc 1 is your typical ATB album. It's upbeat; it's dance-able. It's catchy, but never cheesey. There are good beats throughout and points to ATB for producing/creating them himself. A lot of DJ's can just spin good records, but ATB can also make good records. I thought the vocals were good throughout. This album is great for clubbing, driving fast, partying, etc. If you are a fan of ATB's other stuff, Disc 1 should definitely appeal to you.
Disc 2 however, is about as opposite from Disc 1 as you can get. Disc 2 is super mellow, ambient music. It is background music at its finest. It's calming, and can actually be beautiful at times - again a testament to ATB's ability to produce/create/make music. This CD is perfect for staying calm in rush-hour traffic, reading a book, or trying to fall asleep to.
So both CDs are good, even if they're really not related. I'm not sure anyone would ever naturally want to listen to them back-to-back; they're just so different from one another. If you are strictly a fan of the trance/dance genre, Disc 1 is for you, and you may hate Disc 2. If you're open to a wider taste of music, you may like both discs.
nice!.......2007-06-20
