"Apart from 'She Wants to Dance With Me,' Astley's second album didn't have songs as strong as those on his debut. Most of the album was pleasant dance-pop filler, showing the weaknesses of the Stock, Aitken & Waterman production team. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide" [refers to Album Release Date: 1989 Label: RCA/PWL]
2nd astley album.......2005-12-17
hold me in your arms has its good and its weak sides.
some selfpenned tracks are good some s/a/w tracks not so good i think.it really sounds as if the pwl factory rushed rick into some songs like take me to your heart(cheap synth sound)and till thenn(not suitable for rick)i dont wanna loose her is not so bad but the highlights of this album are hold me in your arms"very soulfull ballad" and aint too proud too beg"great soulclassic"she wants to dance with me has a better production than the saw tracks,i dont want to be your lover is great 80's r&b!!dail my number is weak(the production is too corny)
so in all the first album was a better album this one has its ups and downs but great vocals on every track thou!

Great CD!.......2000-11-26
It took awhile for me to enjoy the songs on this CD, but once I did, I couldn't stop listening. There are romantic songs, funny songs, powerful songs. A little something for everyone. If you don't enjoy it at the first listen - don't give up! This CD will definately grow on you!

Not nearly as strong as debut. . . ........2007-03-23
Rick Astley was barely into his twenties when his debut and this follow-up were released. On his debut, "Whenever You Need Somebody," Astley's stunning baritone--rich, full-bodied--cut through the sheen of S-A-W production numbers like a hot knife through butter: "Never Gonna Give You Up" and "Together Forever" were shattering back-to-back no. 1 hits in the US. The material on "Hold Me in Your Arms" is mostly uptempo disco-inspired filler and fails to live up to Astley's impressive debut. Still, there are still some redeemable moments ((how many male singers in pop can you think of with anywhere near as powerful a voice?). While "She wants to Dance With Me" sounds like an outtake of "Whenever You Need Somebody," Astley delivers a thrilling cover of the Temptations "Ain't Too Proud To Beg" (nevermind the naysayers). In terms of phrasing and sheer vocal power, few male singers in pop can match him. It's just too bad that the production team of S-A-W could not come up with better stuff the second time around for their most gifted protege.

Astley's Slump........2006-05-11
Rick Astley turned heads and churned hits on his 1987 debut "Whenever You Need Somebody," which was a decent showcase of his impressive, if limited, vocal prowess over energetic neo disco. But on his 1988 followup, "Hold Me in Your Arms," Astley gets lazy and records an album that could have been phoned in. Three standouts emerge: "Take Me To Your Heart," "Till Then (Time Stands Still)," and "She Wants to Dance With Me." It should come as no surprise that the first two of these songs were helmed by Stock Aitken Waterman, the production trio responsible for much of Astley's multiplatinum debut. But three songs can't justify a purchase, as the bulk of the album passes by undetectedly, including an oh-no-he-didn't cover of the Tempations' classic "Ain't Too Proud to Beg." This album would mark an artistic and commercial decline from which Astley never recovered. Maybe if he and his collaborators tried harder, they would have come up with a better album. And, who knows, maybe Astley would still be making hit singles.
Great consistency for a second LP. Rating 100%.......2004-05-18
Rick never lost any of his punch with his second album, "Hold me in your arms". The first single of this album "ain't to proud to beg" went top 3 in October 1988, on the AMS top 20, and also scored modestly on the ARIA charts. This album also contains "take me to your heart" and "She wants to dance with me", which both come across with heavily infectious dance grooves. Other monster album tracks include, "Dial my number" and "Giving up on love", both good upbeat multi harmony sounding songs. Other tracks worth mentioning are "hold me in your arms", "Till then (time stands still", and "I don't wanna loose you"
This disc comes across with a good consistency of dance hits and love ballads.
I like half of this album.......2004-05-14
"She wants to dance with me" written by Rick and "I don't wanna lose her" are great songs. I also like the two other SAW songs ("Take me to your heart" & "Till then"). Other songs written by Rick are quite poor.
