Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Superb CD that gets better and better.......2006-09-11

I initially bought this CD for one song, "Somnambulist", which I'd initially heard in the DDR Extreme game. I'm so glad I bought the entire CD rather than purchasing the one song online. The entire CD is fantastic, although I will admit upon first listen, not all of the tracks appealed to me. But after a few weeks I can now say that nearly all of the tracks have something rich to offer. My favorites are "Somnambulist", which I have listened to countless times, "The Force of Gravity," "Dark Heart Dawning," and "The Great Escape." At first I wasn't too fond of "Paris" but now it's grown on me. As well as the other tracks.

I'd never heard of BT before so I can't compare to earlier works so of course this did not disappoint. I love the electronic feel of this, the vocal samples, and the great variation throughout each track. I see other reviews that call this very "pop" but personally it does not feel that "pop" to me (and I like "pop" anyway, so no matter.)

Great, great work.

5 out of 5 stars seriously people.......2006-08-07

yes this is a great album..

but as for the people saying its all about love and whatnot.. Its called EMOTIONAL technology people.. what did you expect.. its based all around emotion. could you be any more DUH.

4 out of 5 stars Really grows on you.......2006-05-23

BT is an incredible electronic musician, one of the best these days, if not the. When I first listened to this album, it was a bit of a letdown, the only song which really stood out for me was Somnambulist. After having the album come up once in awhile in the playlist, I really started to dig the songs. Some of my favorites are Force of Gravity, Paris, Circles and Great Escape. Give it some time, and it will grow on you.

One thing I have to say is that this version lacks a song called "Love in the Time Of Thieves" ... this is incredible track. Its from the japanese special release CD, and its worth getting that version just for that song. If you can find a clip of it, you will agree with me...

5 out of 5 stars BT = the shiz.......2006-02-05

This is one of my favorite albums of all time. This man's got insane talent. It is alittle poppy, but still great songs. very different from his older work though, So i can see why some people maybe alittle disappointed with this CD.

1 out of 5 stars Very Disappointing!.......2006-01-18

I have been a fan of BTs for years and have all his CDs. I bought this album when it was first released in 2003. After much anticipation I was greatly disappointed with what I heard. His previous works I love and can play again and again but this abortion of pop rock is just not the BT that I and other fans were expecting. I will now not blindly purchase one of BTs works until I have fully listened to it incase of further disappointment.

If you want to listen to Drum and Base with a mixture if techno/trance done just right I recommend Pendulums "Hold Your Colour".

2 out of 5 stars blah.......2007-04-02

I suppose there might be some people who would enjoy this "music"...however I didn't...Your woman is a great song in the same way that folk implosions "natural one" is a good song...
but white town really don't have much else to go on with this album.
I have a feeling that some people might follow this band devoutely but I think for most, that if you feel like buying this you might want to get it for like 2 bucks or something.

4 out of 5 stars Some really great songs!.......2007-02-02

I was reading some of the reviews and it sounds like such a mixed bag. While I agree that a few of the songs are quite forgettable, the ones I love, I really love. Obviously, Your Woman, probably the reason that most even learned about them, but "Wanted" is great. Going nowhere somehow is AWESOME. I just love the chorus of that song and his voice is just so smooth. The Shape of Love and Death of My Desire are very enjoyable as well. While all may not sound like Your Woman, its definitely worth a listen in my opinion. It has a great range and I Love it!

5 out of 5 stars Star Wars lovers.......2006-06-09

Thanks to Amazon for letting me listen to "Your Woman". Also, Thanks to those of you who wrote reviews so I could guess which song my 3 and 6 year old sons ask for every time I turn on the radio. They call the little trumpet call STAR WARS, and it makes me laugh. I recently purchased Gorillaz 2005 CD which has "Feel Good", which the boys call the laughing song. I found out the band doesn't even exist. I ALWAYS buy a CD for one song, except for best of collections. Thank you all for helping me rock out in commuterville with my demanding music lovers.

2 out of 5 stars One struggles to choose their most compelling fault.......2005-07-30

One struggles, in fact, to choose the most compelling of its faults. Is it the cheesiness? The rickety, tinny sonics? The smothering banality of it all?
"Your Woman" is the only interesting track.
Indeed, the only way this CD could be more irritating is if you had to watch the band play it live!

3 out of 5 stars ???.......2005-03-30

Going through my old CD's and found this one. I can't believe that I actually listened to this crap back in the day. It's hard to believe that I've made a transformation from this to hardcore metal...WIERD!

5 out of 5 stars Dark science fiction oriented thrash, Voivod nail it on their third release.......2006-06-14

Killing Technology was Montreal based Voivod's third album and the one where their sound became fully realized. The first two albums were good, but marred by muddy sound and the songwriting wasn't quite there yet. On KT they nailed it. When this came out in 1987 the only other band that was as heavy was Kreator. But Voivod were different in their use of really ugly dissonant chords and almost progressive structures all within an extremely brutal thrash context.

Lyrically Killing Technology is very dark and science fiction themed, something Voivod would explore quite a bit on later albums. The songs are about man's destruction or enslavement by his own technology or a world out of balance. For example, Forgotten in Space is about a jail ship full of prisoners both criminal and political blasted out into space to an unknown fate. Ravenous Medicine is about being used in Mengele type medical experiments as a human guinea pig and Tornado is about weather with a vendetta. When combined with the dark thrashing music of Piggy (guitar), Blacky (bass) and Away (drums), Snakes lyrics become the soundtrack to a technological apocalypse, the true soundtrack to the Terminator.

Voivod continued their science fiction oriented thrash sound on their brilliant follow up album Dimension Hatross but on subsequent albums they gradually cleaned up their sound. On Killing Technology they play at their gritty, grinding and noisy best. Killing Technology is a claustrophobic and paranoid masterpiece. It's a great album from one of the most original bands in metal and truly deserves to be called a classic.

5 out of 5 stars R.I.P. Piggy.......2005-10-17

Simply put, Dennis D'Amour is the fallen guitar player who SHOULD be getting all of the magazine coverage and tributes, unlike a certain other dead guitar player whos name also begins with a "D".

Its a shame Dime is going to steal all of the fame and attention away from Dennis. No one said a thing about the tragedy of when Dennis passed away, but the talentless moron Dimebag Darrle got a media bl*w job when his useless body stoped functioning.

I'm surprised that a poser like J.P. even knows about Voivod or Piggy.

Buy Voivod albums instead of Pantera albums, support musicians with talent.

Pi$$ on Dimes grave.

All hail VoiVod and Piggy you Pantera b!tches.

5 out of 5 stars This is not a music CD..........2005-10-16

...it is an absolute, unadulterated WORK OF ART. Here, the band proves they are/were the best thrash metal band of all time. I would say this is Voivod's best album, and it's a great place for new fans. Snake, Blacky, Away, and of course Piggy (R.I.P.) are in top form here. Best song is the title track.

4 out of 5 stars where greatness began to be revealed..........2005-05-10

With 'War and Pain' and 'Rrrooorrr' (is that enough r's?) Voivod were a pretty typical thrash band that would be found on the heavy labels of the day like Combat, Megaforce, Metal Blade, Noise, etc. They wore the leather and spikes, played heavy and fast, and sang about death and ways to die and such. Not being native English speakers, Voivod's lyrics were often awkward in the early days also. But 'Killing Technology' is the turning point. The strides made from 'Rrrroooarrr' are amazing. Their progressive tendencies begin to show, especially on one of my all-time favorites, 'Forgotten in Space.' This is the first of Voivod's three brilliant albums in a row in my opinion along with 'Dimension Hatross' and 'Nothingface.'

DJ DB, the founder of Breakbeat Science (the first all-jungle record store in America) is a big proponent of accessible jungle. On this mix CD for his own F1-11 label, you can hear DB's attempt to push jungle up from the underground. Straying from the more popular and purist hard-edged "tech step" styles, DB mixes in tracks with vocals, some jump-up (definitely considered not cool by junglists), and even--gasp--melody. Don't think this means there's a lot of fluff. From the dark, moody opener, Exocet's "Demon Seed," to the tough beats of Krust's dynamite hit "Warhead" from 1998, this is jungle at its best--with all genres sharing center stage and mixed with flawless precision. --Tricia Romano

4 out of 5 stars I like it........2005-05-07

I like it. The 7th song, and optical's version of blue monday have to be my two favorite tracks. I bought it a couple of weeks ago. It will set your chill, and like other DB cd's it has a fresh sound that other DnB dj's don't catch.

5 out of 5 stars Chill.......2005-04-05

A different angle of viewing this CD: I'm a rock climber, and do a lot of indoor climbing through the winter. Usually I go for much more upbeat songs, but a guy I met climbing recommended this CD for a change. WOW. Something about the feeling of the music just feels good. He described it as 'chill'. I can't think of a better word.

5 out of 5 stars IF YOU HAVEN'T ALREADY, CHECK THIS CD OUT!.......2004-05-05

Ok, I just finished listening to this cd for the first time.
I borrowed it from a friend at work.
First, let me say most of my DnB experience was with AK1200, Dara, and Dieselboy. Those 3 rock, and I will always have mad respect for them. But a couple of years ago, I heard some of a DJ DB mix, and have been really stoked about any chance to hear his mixes ever since. There was something a bit different about his style, and it hit hard.
So, I listened to this cd now (in the year 2004, the cd was released in 1999) and was very impressed. The first song, Demon Seed, has more depth and emotion for me, than I think I've ever heard in Drum and Bass music. I love it. The cd them mixes well into various groovy and hard hitting tracks, many of which I have heard before in some form, and all of which are sweet to listen to. Then, the last track came on, The Process mix of Rob and Goldie's "The Shadow". This track is so sick I almost puked on myself like 8 times just listening to it. I mean Black Plague sick. We're talking so sick, it makes AIDS look like the common cold.
Anyway, I debated on giving the cd 4 or 5 stars. Since for the most part I didn't find the style completely original, and b/c I had heard several of the songs before, I thought about giving the cd 4 stars. However, seeing as how this cd came out 5 years ago, before I even listened to DnB, I think it's fair to say this cd must have been ahead of its time. And the last track... there's no denying the force of that track. 5 stars. spoken.

5 out of 5 stars DB's best!.......2004-03-25

I rave about this album in my other reviews of DB albums, and I have all that are available. When I first got this back in 2000, it was my first taste of d'n'b, and how refreshingly different and accesible this album is. Quite a departure from the trance and house you're used to hearing. Right in the middle of this cd, it starts to turn what I call ambient jungle, and it will just possess you. All the while the drums are mesmerizing. So unique, so orginal. The end of the cd falls flat for me but with 17 tracks I can't complain about that. This album is dope! Get it.

5 out of 5 stars A Timeless Classic!.......2002-04-24

This album is a masterpiece. It is DB's finest work. It may be true that this album contains some mainstream drum-n-bass/jungle tunes, but he mixes it in such a way that it plays on your emotions and stirs a sense of urgency and desire within. All the songs fit perfectly together within this mix; he is a master at putting a set together which has continuity and a definitive tone and mood. Anyway, I have listened to this album thousands of times--from start to finish--and I just love it every single time. I also have about 600 CD's and this album is in the top 3! If you want to see the difference between a simple dj mix cd full of cool songs and an inspiring, creative mix (done by a talented dj), then listen to this album, then listen to Mickey Finn - "The Takeover Bid Round 2". The Mickey Finn album is arguably good and it contains many of the same songs on this DB album. However, this DB album is just brilliant; it blows "The Takeover Bid Round 2" out of the water!

4 out of 5 stars awesome to hear JC Chasez out of the N'sync context........2005-04-15

These remixes of The Force of Gravity are an excellent showcase for how JC Chasez can sound when he's taken out of a boy band sound. I usually prefer female vocalists when I listen to Trance, but his voice works very well with this sound, as did Bryan Adams when he sang lead vocals for Chicane. My personal favorite is the Tiesto remix. Nice mellow trance.

5 out of 5 stars Best Bonus CD EVER!!.......2005-03-04

If u like to mix, newbie or pro, this cd is for you. I was so pleased by the different seperate tracks that was provided for each of the 3 songs. If you are a newbie like me, then you would know how hard it is to separate music from vocals or music from music. Even pro production geniuses agree some separation is virtually impossible. So this cd is a remixer's goldmine. Get it just for the bonus content. The 6 tracks on the cd are also highly listenable, so for a price of $10, you really can't go wrong. Get it now.

2 out of 5 stars Don't already own mixing software? DON'T buy yet!.......2004-11-23

BT. If you aren't sure who he is, start with one of his regular CDs. If you DO know, this EP has a couple of good remixes off the Emotional Technology CD and a great bonus; the ability to 'remix' The Great Escape, Superfabulous and The Force of Gravity. There is also a video for Simply Being Loved.
The down side? If you don't already own mixing software, you won't be able to do much with the included sound files. I bought this EP because I love BT's music and the possibility of remixing my own version sounded groovy. No software (even something along the lines of 'playskool's my first dj mixer') is included. Had I known, I probably would not have spent the money, as BT enjoys putting out multiple remixes, usually available on trance/house/jungle etc compilations. Go get them there.

5 out of 5 stars Worth the money!!.......2004-10-04

This EP is BT at his best. I have BT's entire discography and I am not dissapointed with anything that he has ever done. If you buy one of BT's albums you will find yourself buying them all!

4 out of 5 stars Skip Emotional Technology and get this instead........2004-07-18

I wasn't particularly thrilled with BT's latest, Emotional Technology, despite being a massive fan of the man. For more details on that, see my review of the album. This CD, however, The Technology, is a lot more interesting.

The radio edit of The Force Of Gravity shortens the overly drawn out track, and showcases the vocals a bit more (which works really well, amazingly). The second track is Tiesto's superb remix of the same song, and Tiesto once again proves himself to be one of the few artists capable of saving the dying genre of trance; his remix alone is worth the price of admission, and builds and climaxes wonderfully. I'm not familiar with Dylan Rhymes, but his "Push Up" remix of The Force Of Gravity has caught my interest. Something a stylistic blend of old-school Hybrid and BT (when he's on a nu-breaks mood like in his song Madskillz-Mic Chekka), it simply kicks off strong and keeps kicking the whole way through. Not as emotional as Tiesto's remix, Rhymes' instead goes for a "get down" groove, and it's great. The Attention Deficit remix of The Great Escape proves that when Dave Dresden isn't sitting on his rear riding on the ridiculous success Motorcycle - When The Rush Comes, he's a serious talent. While I consider the original to be one of the few highlights of BT's ET album, the Dresden delivers the goods.

I still find Superfabulous to be atrocious, but these remixes are an improvement over the original (not that that's saying much). I'll be honest: I listened to both once, and have skipped them ever since when listening to the CD, so you'll have to be your own judge as to whether or not they're quality tracks.

On top of having great remixes, the CD offers you the chance to make your own remixes (assuming you have ProTools or an equivalent software and the talent to do so). There's a music video for Somnambulist, but between BT's awful hair and fruity raver T'ai Chi, I can't really say it's a good addition.

My verdict? The Technology EP is worth more of your attention than Emotional Technology, assuming you were a fan of BT before he wrote the words "simply being loved is more than enough."

Product Description

Idea for this music CD came spontaneously combine music and technology discourse and what better music to present it than rap and other rythms. The premise is simple, to introduce the Geek world to non-Geeks and inject the technical matter with some levity that it deserves. Technology is so much a part of everyday life and man-machine interface is so ubiquitous that techno-phobia is akin to life phobia. This CD is the first experiment in melding Technology with music tunes in hip hop, rap, techno and pop. Rikki is the brains behind musical interpretation of the lyrics, composed and mixed all the songs. He also has support vocals in this album. His enthusiasm and energy enriched this project many-fold. He has been playing music professionally since 1996 and has 3 music albums to his credit. Lead vocals belong to Jasz Kohli the quintessential singer and baby of the Geek Rythms team. He has been perfoming in public since the age of 6 and has several releases and performances under his belt. He brought in his own interpretations of the lyrics and enriched them. Supporting vocals in the song, Computer Geek have been provided by Annette Phillips. GK wrote the lyrics for all the songs in one inspired burst of techno-poetry effusion in Jan 2004. GK is an Engineer by education and holds a PhD in Chemical Engineering and the only one who has held a day time job. CD has 8 tracks of pure delight.

3 out of 5 stars needs mixing.......2005-02-04

The vox are mixed WAAYY too low. It's hard to catch the lyrics. Needs to be mixed with a better vocal balance.

Nice concept and great music. Bajaj et al have successfully married geek and cool together in perfect harmony. The best thing to happen to geeks since Bill Gates.

5 out of 5 stars Outstanding tracks.......2004-10-10

The CD is an incredibly fun collection of tracks (there are both vocal and some bonus instrumental tracks). All of the songs reach out in different ways, each packaged with catchy tunes. I do 150 miles everyday, and this is what I have been listening to nonstop for the last 10 days!!!

5 out of 5 stars Outstanding -- nirvana for geeks.......2004-10-02

Awesome music. GK, hat's off to you and your team. Finally, someone has created waves for us geeks. This CD has become my staple back ground music when I'm programming in SPSS all day long. Can't wait for the next album.

Album Description

Jazz lost its way when people stopped dancing to it. Back in the 40's, Jazz was America's pop music. Then musicians got too hip, the playing got too far out, and the music left the groin and moved to the cerebrum. Big mistake. George Kahn's music covers a wide spectrum of jazz, from bebop to standards to funk to Latin to "smooth" jazz. The idea that holds it all together is that the groove comes first, last and always. The melody supports the groove. The solos stay in the groove. This music grooves - and you can groove with it.

3 out of 5 stars Previous reviewer makes good comments, but..........2007-02-21

this CD doesn't blow one away, but it is a nice effort. It does
have a good mix of songs and styles, and keeps the beat moving in
a straight forward, main stream jazz style. I picked it up for a song
and play it as background music with my family in the evening.
A nice CD, but nothing to write home about.

5 out of 5 stars Cooking Red Hot With Heart & Soul!!.......2006-03-06

If you love piano with some sass and soul and a touch of sincerity then you are about to fall in love with the talent of George Kahn! He works his musical magic on this cd with the help of equally super-talented musicians Eric Marienthal, Bobby Rodriquez, Karl Vincent, and M. B. Gordy.

This is a very well-produced jazz experience. Wait until you hear Steve Wonder's "Don't You Worry "Bout A Thing". It will blow the top off of your head! "A Bop For Billy" cooks. Each musician is highlighted in this song. Feast your ears to the soulful tribute for Marvin Gaye with "I Heard It Through The Grapevine." Larry Koonse on guitar is so funky! Marvin would have been blown away! "Otro Tu#" is complexly gratifying...one of the finest compositions I have experienced! One listen will simply wow you. The number dedicated to Dave Brubeck "Midnight Brew" must have thrilled him. Tierney Sutton sings a gorgeous vocal on a special song "Out Of Time". Justo Almario adds jazzy variety with the flute on "Night Shadows". The finale (bonus track) is a swingin' tribute to John Coltrane called "12 Short Years".

This cd has everything from bop to soul to Latin sounds to smooth jazz. The sounds of each song flow sweetly into the next. If you can't experience George Kahn live, then this cd is a recommended treat. And a musical journey you will want over and over!

Good, but the bonus CD makes the package

3 out of 5 stars The second CD is where it`s at........2004-10-06

The first CD is pretty weak. With the exception of a few decent tracks, most of them feature acoustic guitars backed up by BT`s electronic production and generic songs about love. Things really start to slow down near the end of the disc, but you`ll probably have lost interest by then and have yourself wondering, "Man, when is this going to end so I can go back to Flaming June"? Those whole thing feels like a flawed attempt to grab some mainstream listeners.

The second CD more than makes up for this! You get Kimosabe, a kick-ass electronic rap song that was featured in Amplitude for PS2 and Need for Speed Underground. Tao of the Machine featuring the Roots, which is a sign that rap artists need to collaborate with electronic producers more often, and a bunch of sweet remixes and previously unreleased songs! Buy this album, but only if youre willing to pay the steep cost of a 2 CD import.

5 out of 5 stars Bonus CD is worth it!.......2004-06-25

People with Emotional Technology USA edition may think that this version is nothing but a waste, BUT the there are three TOP NOTCH tracks on the bonus CD that are FULL-LENGTH and UNRELEASED that may be well worth your money. Those three out of the many tracks featured on the bonus cd are:

Tao of the Machine (feat. The Roots, from Blade II soundtrack but in FULL LENGTH)
Kimosabe (Unreleased, featured on a couple of Playstation II games)
Love in the Time of Thieves (feat. Beber and Tamera, unreleased and very very nice funky breaks track)

The rest of the bonus CD you can find on the single of Somnambulist and The Technology EP.

If you don't have Emotional Technology yet, this version is the one to get. If you do, fans of BT may dig it.
