Very Pleased.......2006-11-05
The Instrumentation includes many Keyboards, mellotrons, and mini-moogs as usual, also some woodwinds, and grand piano. Now to be completely honest, I had no idea there was a new vocalist until I saw it mentioned. Trude Eidtang has as wonderful a voice as Sylvia Erichsen, not to mention they sound quite similar.
On every one of their albums there has been at least one song that is especially enchanting, something out of this world, something while listening you wonder just how they possibly came up with something so brilliant. On this album, originally, I believed that song was "Splinters." This is a softer song for the most part, with a slightly heavier chorus; the vocal melodies pierce through the soft keyboard melodies and send chills down your spine.
After a month or so of many listens, "Joyride" seems like the best song here. The title is very fitting, because from the first instant, this is one of the most Joyful tunes I have ever heard. It really is a Joyride. "The Dark Road" is probably my third favorite song, similarly brimming with enormously blissful harmonies, except it is slower paced.
Like I said, I'm very pleased with this album especially after the previous one. If you like White Willow be sure to check out Paatos, Pineforest Crunch, and Anglagard.
Superb.......2006-10-04
I am glad to say my fears were unfounded.
Their new female vocalist is wonderful.
And this album is wonderful, too.
I like it even better than their last (Storm Season) because it is not QUITE so far toward the metal end of the spectrum.
They have incorporated SOME metal, but mostly they have reverted to their earlier, and folkier, and more classical (and better) stuff.
Exceptionally wonderful prog rock: melodic, varied, unexpected, beautifully constructed, involving.

Product Description
Buffalo Creek's first full length audio offering, Signal to Noise represents over two years of writing, arranging, recording and producing by all of the band's current line-up of Bryn Loosley, Marc Stafford, Nick Bearden, August Germar and Ryan O'Donovan. Recorded in two studios in the band's hometown of Chico, California, the album is a testament to the tenacity of the musicians involved. Six months into the recording process when the entire album was near completion, all tracks and files for the album were lost in a hard drive failure and the band was forced to re-record the entire album from scratch. "I'm glad we had the opportunity to do it again, the result is a highly polished album were all really proud of," said drummer Nick Bearden. Compared to the "California Soul Sound", fans of The Mother Hips, Jackpot, Ryan Adams, Whiskeytown, Sonvolt, Neil Young, Wilco, The Jayhawks, and others of the likes will definitely not be dissapointed in what Buffalo Creek delivers in "Signal to Noise". Buffalo Creek’s first full-length album Signal to Noise is a rare resurgence of good old rock ‘n’ roll. This long-awaited release, with Bryn Loosley’s bittersweet lyrics of love lost, layered on top of tuneful melodies and well-orchestrated musicianship, has a quality that makes getting these tracks stuck in your head a good thing. Entwined is a return to rock’s roots, including sounds of folk, blues and even some jazzy keys. Though often country-esque (“Firecracker,” “Shopping Cart”), inventive guitar licks and drum riffs occasionally change it up to something almost funky (“Delta Breeze,” “Cry”). But regardless of its sense of all-inclusiveness, Signal to Noise is more importantly a nostalgic return to a purer rock ‘n’ roll. The end result of this careful composition is not simply just a collection of songs, but an undivided experience. – David P. BrownCustomer Reviews:

THE THRILL OF DECAY.......2005-08-23
"Signal to Noise" is a defining accomplishment in its approach, execution and aesthetic sensibility. Preoccupied almost completely with signal processing and reprocessing -- Henke refers to his technique here as granular resynthesis -- Parts I and II of "Signal to Noise" display some remarkable musical results. By occasionally allowing the source material to surface Henke creates a shift in the listener's perception. Comprehended not so much as a "petit mort", but more like a small and gentle stroke, your perception of what's going on changes. And thanks to the care given this work you will know when the source material surfaces: it emerges in a distinctly recognizable way, not like some other sound lumped on top of another soundscape. Which is to say that there is a more keenly detectable set of goals about this music that sets it far apart from the vast body of drone ambient that's out there.
"Studies for Thunder" is literally that: synthetically created electrical storms. The metaphor is clear enough, but the piece sits a bit uncomfortably between environmental recording and electronic music simply because the calibre of finish Henke brings to this will leave most casual listeners thinking that they are in fact listening to a skilled phonographer's field recording. While the first two pieces are genuinely musical accomplishments, "Studies for Thunder" seems like a little bit of technological sleight-of-hand.
That nit aside, Henke's work here points to something new and entirely worth your attention.
