One of techno's prime trendsetters, Moby flashed surprising rock chops on the Joy Division tribute Means to an End in 1995. Here he abandons the dance floor completely for a convincing stroll through a multitude of guitar-based styles. "Come on Baby" is the man's idea of trad rock, "Someone to Love" explodes like the best hardcore, and "Face It" is a swelling progressive epic. Animal Rights also includes Moby's ode to his roots, a cover of Mission of Burma's "That's When I Reach for My Revolver." --Jeff BatemanCustomer Reviews:
this is some of moby's best work. it really is. .......2007-05-05
I love this one.......2007-04-10
It's amazing, and remains my favorite Moby album by far. "Face It" is the best!
Just when you thought you heard it all..........2005-08-24
The peculiar thing about this is that if there is a single Moby album that I cannot make it through in its entirety, it's this one. Animal Rights is more conducive to small doses. You're not going to drink a whole gallon of 2% milk at once are you? You see my point.
I have to applaud Moby for challenging his audience though. His previous album, Everything Is Wrong, scored numerous favorable reviews as the electronica genre was about to boom in America. Remixes were popping up in clubs and parties everywhere and Moby was everyone's favorite underground DJ. So it took guts to make an album like Animal Rights which is wrought with speed metal that sounds like it was recorded after a full day of Vivarin and coffee. The guitars are primal, the drums margin on migraine, and the vocals are, to put it politely, melodic screaming.
Of course, Animal Rights does its best to stay as musical as possible while it beats you over the head with its angst. There are moments of sparse arrangement, such as Now I Let It Go and Anima, that make you wish Moby would try this just a little more often. Alone, Old, and Living sound like the instrumentals that could have been lifted from latter albums like Play or 18, albeit with a more passive-aggressive production job. His cover of That's When I Reach For My Revolver is a treat too, keeping the rock n roll in steady check for once.
But as fresh as Animal Rights sounds, it can be just as arduous. Sure, just as Someone To Love comes at you like a ton of bricks, you may think it's cool. Like, wow man! Moby is cranking up the electric and fuzz guitars, and it's all totally in my face! Rock on! But after 16 tracks and 73 minutes of this kind of thing, you want this one-trick pony to ride into the sunset already.
It's like reading a book printed in all capital letters. IT MAY BE TRYING TO GET A POINT ACROSS, BUT YOU'LL BE DARNED IF YOU CAN MAKE YOUR WAY THROUGH IT.
CONTRASTING MUSIC! Harsh and Soft! Rocks hard too!!!.......2005-08-20
Moby goes Metal!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.......2005-04-08

Animal Rights and its bonus CD.......2006-09-30
Moby is NOT a little idiot!.......2002-03-17
It's odd that this, the UK version of Animal Rights (released several months before the US version) has a slightly different track list to its American counterpart. Well, not so much odd, as just plain annoying.
Let's get one thing straight: the US 16-track version IS better than this 12-track version. But the bonus here is, well, the bonus disc, Little Idiot, which has some of Moby's most ambient music on it. The only word to describe the music is "beautiful". You just have to hear it for yourself. It compliments the thrashing sound of disc 1 exceedingly well.
There is also one track on the Animal Rights disc which is not on the US version: "My Love Will Never Die".
So, which do you get? The undoubtedly superior 16-track US version, which doesn't come with Little Idiot, or the not-so-good UK 12-track version, which has one of Moby's finest ambient moments as a bonus CD? Not sure? Do what I did: get both this version AND the 16-track US version! Then you will have both versions of the album AND the fantastic bonus disc "Little Idiot".
Oh, and this gets five stars BECAUSE it has Little Idiot included. Otherwise, it would get three (and the US version four). Confused? Me too.
No No No !!!.......2002-03-11
Buy absolutly the other first : it was the one that i knew, and was so happy finding the 2 record version... but waht a pity... i prefer 1000 times the 1 record 16 tracks version... But not available in France, so i bought the US Version... so much better... no comparaison... the tracks sequency, mixing, etc... my friends have the same oponion... only buy this 2 records version to complete the other, not the contrary. Then it will be fair.
both disks are great.......2001-05-30
two very different disks.......2000-06-02

Product Description
Wendy Flowers Flower Power CD creates a 60s musical vibe for todays families. It contains original, uplifting folk-rock songs with positive messages for young people. Themes include peace, brotherhood, freedom, hope, individuality, imagination, community, activism, the environment and animal rights. The aim is to help kids understand that they CAN make a difference. Also featured is a cover of Rick Nelsons Easy To Be Free. The sound calls to mind the Byrds, Mamas & Papas, Simon & Garfunkel and Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young Wendy is best remembered from her cult classic, Wendy & Bonnies Genesis, recorded in 1969 with her sister. Wendys latest effort, the Flower Power CD, actually was sparked by her husband Paul Freemans award-winning screenplay of the same name. Its a heartwarming comedy-drama about a forgotten protest singer. Huey Lewis, who was interested in playing the lead at one time, suggested that Wendy and Paul complete all the snippets of songs that were sprinkled into the script. So it became an album, original songs reflecting '60s ideals for 21st century families. The album offers a homemade charm. Recorded on a miniscule budget, Wendy relied on musician friends and students. The children in her Bay Area music classes have already been enjoying the songs. Now these uplifting tunes are available to the public. Theyre designed to appeal to all ages. While this material is highly entertaining, its also effective as a resource for parents and teachers. A portion of the proceeds from Flower Power goes to Free the Children. Free the Children is the largest network of children helping children through education in the world, having directly impacted over 1 million children in 45 countries through its projects.
