Great guitar-centric but still 'electronic' tunes.......2006-08-15
Jonny Marr's guitar is all over all of these tracks and it adds a nice dynamic sound to the synths. The lyrics are pushed back in the mix and a sometimes substantial reverb is placed at the front. The tracks might be a tad too long.
Its a great sounding CD if you already like New Order and Electronic.
Electronic fans rejoice!.......2006-02-26
My reviews tend towards the short and sweet. This one will be no different. If you love Electronic, you'll love this disc. Fans of Electronic should also check out: Monaco, The Other Two & of course ... New Order.
I WELCOME DEPARTURE.......2005-08-02
Only took 5 yrs for me to discover that this gem of an album had been released...THANKS AMAZON FOR THE RECOMMENDATION!! Being a fan of NEW ORDER and the various side projects (REVENGE, THE OTHER TWO, MONACO) I relentlessly anticipated another release from Electronic but gave up after a few years. This is by far my favorite Electronic release. The much broader and heavier rock tone sets it apart from even the earlier Smiths, and New Order material. I'm looking for a BEST OF compilation next!!
Some side projects best remain one-shots........2005-03-02
Quietly released in 2000, the third longplayer from Electronic is a better effort than the second, "Raise The Pressure." That is primarily due to the fact that Johnny Marr keeps his profile higher than Bernard Sumner, so "Twisted Tenderness" is more a guitar album than the previous two. You might be forgiven into thinking this is a Johnny Marr solo album with help from Bernard Summer, and appreciate it a bit more.
But the whole point behind the appeal to Electronic's debut album was that all the contributors perfectly balanced, and brought out the best in, each other. To this album's credit, the title track is fantastic. The remaining songs are too long and overproduced. Stick with the debut.
Remembering "The Good Monk".......2005-02-15
It's nice to see Grigori Rasputin on the cover of a CD. He was a Goodman!

A must have.......2006-05-06
As a long time fan of the Smiths and New Order and of course Electronic, in my opinion this is the best Marr and Sumner's Electronic album to date. This album sounds more rockish than the previous work. Excellent guitar work in songs like Flicker, Late at Night, Haze and Vivid and great Techno in Twisted Tenderness. Also you don't want to miss the great song (should have been an A-Side!) Warning Sign.
Deluxe okay but not great........2003-08-02
Unless you get a good deal the deluxe version isn't worth getting as the only track that I listen to all the way through is Prodigal Son (Star In Your Mind mix) even though, ironically, it is the longest track. I consider the first three tracks on Disk 2 to be actually part of the end of Disk 1.
The best songs by far are the title track, Prodigal Son, Haze, Vivid, Make It Happen, King for a Day, and the first couple of minutes of Like No Other. I tend to skip over the remaining tracks.
Great collaboration where the New Order influence dominates.......2003-07-16
Electronic's latest album is full of guitar courtesy of the Smith's Johnny Marr, and great lyrics, songs, and the New Order sound courtesy of Bernard Sumner. Does this collaboration work?.... Totally!
I purchased this cd prior to New Order's latest album "Get Ready". I have to say that musically and lyrically that I feel "Get Ready" is the better album. However, "Twisted Tenderness" is very strong.
Most of the songs have guitar, synth, and big beats. I feel that Bernard Sumner probably wrote not only the lyrics, but the music also. The songs are very cohesive and sound like they were made by a seasoned musician who has mastered the art of making danceable rock songs.
I have not heard a lot of New Order's older albums, but I would catorigize this album as a mix between "Republic's" dance songs and "Get Ready's" more guitar oriented songs. The mix works good.
Anyway I highly recommend this album. The disk 2 offers I think two new songs and about 6 remixes of disk 1. So I think just buying "Twisted Tenderness" without the deluxe part would be good, unless you like remixes or as in my case they only had the Deluxe cd in stock.
Best of its genre.......2002-05-17
A wonderful album. The obsessively tidy Sumner did a fantastic job making this album work cohesively and smoothly...yet with a rough edge. I am a New Order/Electronic fan to the hilt and this is one of the best albums of that genre. I stick with disc one for the most part.
Okay, but superfluous if you have the original........2001-12-11
I was very excited when I first heard about "Twisted Tenderness Deluxe." After I listened to it I found myself wishing it had been "Raise the Pressure Deluxe." Yes, I love "Twisted Tenderness." It's a mighty recording. "Haze" and "Vivid" absolutely blow my socks off! But I was expecting more. More like the outtakes from "Raise the Pressure" which wound up on the B-sides of singles like "Forbidden City" and "For You." Songs like "All That I Need," "I Feel Allright," "A New Religion" etc. These were tracks that made me scratch my head and wonder "Why weren't they on the album?" Well, there's none of that here. Disc One is "T. T." in its entirety, which is the only reason I give this four stars. Disc Two is just a compilation of gay bar dub mixes and there are no surprises and it is quite tedious. I was "Disappointed," you get it, title of their single from "Cool World" with Neil Tennant on lead vocals. I'm an original Joy Division/ New Order/ Electronic/ Other Two, you get the idea, fan and would pretty much gladly go out and buy anything that these people record. But in this case, I felt like all I got was some glossy new packaging. Give me the original version with Rasputin on the cover anyday. Save yourself some money and don't bother.

Speechless.......2000-08-15
I've owned this CD for a while now and it's still my favorite! Every time I listen to it is as good as the first time was! The only problem with it is that I love tracks 3 (Vivid) and 6 (Twisted Tenderness) so much that I don't get to listen to the other tracks because every time I put the CD in, I just end up listening to those two on loop :) Twisted Tenderness is amazing beyond words and has left me speechless... if i gave it my usual analysis it couldn't possibly do the song justice.
Twisted isn't the word.......2000-04-22
What an awesome CD, this is a example of diversity that goes beyond the imagination. I know there is not one track on this CD that will disappoint any listener. This is one of the best CD's I have bought in the last year. God and Amazon know I have bought alot.
Bravo! Worth the wait........2000-03-23
Like others here, I have been a fan since the first CD, and still a fan even after the disappointing follow-up several years later. But Electronic redeemed themselves totally with this one. Energetic, fresh, original and very strong tracks from a group I had feared had disappeared. Why wasn't this released in the US? I was pleasantly surpised to find this treasure and I love possessing such a rare treat, but something this good should be appreciated by a larger audience.
The best "Electronic" release to date..........2000-03-13
I've been a fan of both New Order and the Smiths since 1987. Obviously, when Electronic formed in the early nineties, I was quite excited. However, their albums have been quite inconsistent. Each album had it's really good songs and really bad songs. However, with "Twisted Tenderness", Electronic have a quality release that is full of variety and complexity. Yes, it is guitar driven with few synth., but the new directional focus is refreshing. Give this album some time. Upon my first listening, I wasn't too impressed. It has taken around 2 months of listening to understand and embrace these songs. "Twisted Tenderness", "Make It Happen" are two of the best songs Electronic have written. It seems that the powers that be picked the wrong Electronic album not to release in the states.
Far And Away The Best Album Of 1999.......1999-12-28
After the so-so effort of "Raise The Pressure" (which had a couple of brilliant tracks though), Bernard and Johnny came back with what I believe to be the best album of the year. One minute into the lead track, "Make It Happen", and I knew this would be something special. The best tracks for me would be (in no certain order): "Make It Happen", "Haze", "Vivid", "Twisted Tenderness", "Like No Other", and "Prodigal Son". The quality of songwriting never flags for a moment, the production is first-rate, and I'd be astounded if the next New Order release even matches this effort (highly unlikely, despite my love for New Order). It's a real shame "Twisted Tenderness" never saw US release, and apparently, European listeners ignored it in droves. But that's public taste (or lack thereof) for you. No matter. This one rose above the pack for me, and might well be one of my top five choices of the decade. I hope Bernard and Johnny don't give up on this project after such a wonderful 3rd album.

Two Good Tracks MAYBE.......2000-07-09
As a diehard fan of New Order and Electronic, I am somewhat disappointed with there latest effort. I sit here waiting for new material and then comes along Twisted Tenderness, which by the way is the best track on the CD. I am used to the pulsing dance tracks that made Raise the Pressure so awesome. I hope in the future Barnie and Co. come up with some more hip tracks!
It is an album that portrays some different material that they probably could not publish under the Warner contract, so for that I applaud their efforts, but give the fans what they desperately need - "Stop if you got Love"!
Roll the bones.......2000-06-29
I found this album, like some previous reviewers mention, to be a quite disappointing item for Electronic's usual high standard. Besides the fact that the band name isn't appropriate any longer (guitars are a dominant feature on this album), the band completely ditched the progressive elements of their debut. The result is a album with some good songs, but overall, it's an unfocused and uncohesive affair. Johnny isn't capable of pulling out memorable riffs and melodies (for once), and the guitars often sound like a bunch of uninspired noise. Also, the drums are pretty obtrusive. The bluesy "Vivid", "When she's gone", and the title cut are the standout tracks here. Not a bad album, but Electronic obviously have slipped from the cutting edge. The CD-single releases "Vivid" and "Late at night", containing some techno remixes, aren't much interesting, too.
Bittersweet.......2000-05-10
The band is best when combining a strong, catchy beat, Marr's layered guitars, mood-enhancing & melodic keyboards and Barney's stilted vocals. This album lacks quality in its rhythms. Marr is great - as usual. Keyboards don't take over the songs as often as they should. There aren't many hummable tunes. The vocals are the same as they are on every Barney album - not remarkable in any way.
Not incredible.......2000-01-25
I don't like this album compared to the other Electronic albums. The songs "Breakdown" and "Can't Find My Way Home" are very weak. There are only two typical Electronic songs, "Twisted Tenderness" and "When She's Gone" both songs are awesome. There is sooo much live drums by an outside musician from the band Black Grape. He totally ruins most of the songs with his terrible drum work. The guitars are great, but I think it would have been better with more drum machines and synths like on Raise the Pressure. The first two albums are gems though.
Good Album, Great Title Track.......2000-01-05
This album is strong throughout, though I don't much care for the music or the profanity in track 4 "Breakdown". However, no other tracks come close to the pure greatness of the title track. This alone is worth the import price many times over. My other favorite tracks are "Vivid", "Haze", and "When She's Gone". I do like this album, but I miss the more electronic sounds of their first two albums. I can't wait to hear some new music from Bernard with New Order.
