Silenced

Editorial Reviews

Product Description
"Silenced" represents a considerable achievement. We shall not look back on The Black Dog’s startlingly influential back catalogue: suffice to say that "Silenced" compares with those monumental recordings. This album will therefore be a huge treat for The Black Dog’s legions of fans, while also representing an entry point for the uncommitted souls. Lush, tuneful and inspired, it contains all the bewildering evocation expected of a Black Dog record, yet it also expresses itself with new-found vigor and purpose. "Silenced" transports, yet it also grooves, and repeated plays yield an ever deepening sense of other-worldliness. It is un-nerving but beautiful. Dust Science is proud to present The Black Dog: "Silenced"

5 out of 5 stars Intelligent West Coast Album!.......2006-01-22

I'm glad I took a chance on this album. Despite not finding any reviews for this album, I put all my faith in the reliability of g-funk west coast rap. I literally never do this, but the genre has just been so good. And it seldom disappoints. This album, in fact, exceeded my expectations. The only song I could sample beforehand was "West Coast Thang," which is just a simple and predictable west coast anthem song. It sounded and still sounds good, don't get me wrong, but this album is so much more. With the social-consciousness of 2Pac, the production skills of DJ Quik, and the smooth rap delivery of Snoop, this album sets itself apart from the pack. Although I just mentioned a lot of mainstream/popular artists, this album isn't diluted by mainstream influence at all. It really sounds real and the album's standout tracks feel straight from the heart. As much as, if not more than, dare I say, "Keep Your Head Up" and "Dear Mama."

The best songs on this album are the positive ones. "Memories" is a classic laced with a smooth guitar backing, a crooner that tops (yes) even Nate Dogg. His name is Mr. Efriaiam Galloway and what a voice he has. Now this is old school. The song talks about lost friends and just EXISTING in a tough neighborhood. It's really beautiful. The next classic is "One Life," with a rapping technique sort of like MC Eiht. Dotted and syncopated, I guess is the best way to describe it. The song talks about living life to the fullest because it can end at any moment. The mesmerizing sax in the background does it for me. Man, why didn't this album get any play?! These two songs are better than 99% of the rap I've heard in my life.

Other solid songs are "Bay Luv," another laid back song, the upbeat "West Coast Thang," "Feel My Essences" and "Bouncin' In Fo' Sho.' "Feel My Essences" has a sort of east coast feel, in the tradition of Mobb Deep or A Tribe Called Quest. Jazzy, sort of, with some awesome labyrinthine rhymes. If you're a fan of good rap, this one's for you. If you're a fan of G Funk, or Mobb Music if you prefer, this one's for you. You don't know what you're missing.

5 out of 5 stars Rishloo at Rays Golden Lion.......2006-02-21

As many people may have mentioned that Rishloo sounds a lot Tool, in a sense they do but yet at the same time they don't. I just this past weekend, February 18, attended the show of Rishloo, Temperedcast, and Vacant at Rays Golden Lion in Richland, Washington (about 4 hours south east of Seattle, Washington, in a Podunk town in the TRI CITIES). I have been to Rays several times and more than less of the time the bands are HARDCORE, screaming till no end bands. I would have to say that Rishloo is above and beyond most local bands that play there. I know several bands and love all kinds of music. Some say that I am very weird about the fact that I compare Rishloo with two other Washington State bands named Takeover, as well a Goslin, originally Loudermilk.

At first when I heard the first song from Rishloo, I was thinking more along the lines of "Here we go, another `I am going to scream my lyrics as loud as I possibly can' band", but after hearing the second song I stopped my self from the "head banging" and listened to how well they harmonized and then I began actually listening to the music. I mean not, "Oh its music," kind of listening. I began listening to how well the cords fell into place, how well they kept the beat and sounded as a "whole". I can honestly say, that was the first real concert at Rays that I really enjoyed and didn't want them to stop playing. I could have listened to Illumination 20 more times that night and wouldn't have thought twice about it!

Thank you Rishloo for putting on a great show and please come back to Rays soon!!!!

5 out of 5 stars Awesome stuff........2006-01-08

I heard about these guys from a friend who goes to school in Seattle, and as soon as I heard a few clips of them I knew that I needed to hear the rest of this album. Their sound is heavily influenced by Tool and A Perfect Circle, but they are also carving out their own sound that I absolutely adore. The textures of their sound are diverse and have great depth, and the vocals are well performed. Favorites on the album include "Lovely Room" and "Fames", both of which just wash over you in this huge wall of sound worthy of your best and biggest speakers. Granted, they're still in the process of exploring and finding their sound, but even so, this is really solid work. For anyone who likes hard hitting, melodic rock, this stuff blows away most of the crap one hears on the radio these days.

5 out of 5 stars One of the best rock albums of all time!.......2005-10-31

If you like smart prog rock that doesn't hook until after a few listens then jump aboard Rishloo's Terras Fames! What a great album! Many might say it's a rip off of Tool, but it's really not that close. They are a maturing band that is touring around and creating their next works. I'm so glad I stumbled upon this album at a Dredg messageboard. Listen to more samples at their official site. Also the album is cheaper there!

4 out of 5 stars Fans of Tool and APC will enjoy this........2005-09-26

Rishloo are a young band from the Seattle area that are surprisingly mature for such an early stage in their musical journey. While they are clearly still developing their own voice there is much promise within the songs of Terra Fames. I would definitely look for more to come from Rishloo. The boys are out touring hard around the NW and further points afar. Check out their excellent live show if they happen into your town!
