3 out of 5 stars Yup, it's a single.......2002-10-31

It's a good little single to listen to, but there are only three tracks on it so one can't really get into it for long.

5 out of 5 stars A must have for 'Trance' and 'Progressive House' DJs.......2001-02-06

I am, of course, referring to the vinyl version of this release. If you are familiar with the album version than you need to know that these mixes are quite different. They have a few of the same chords but for the most part it is a new experience. But I am sure that anyone who wound up on this page is familiar with singles in the electronic world. You can almost always count on getting more that you bargain for.

Moby has been around for quite some time now. You might not realize that from his sudden thrust into the spotlight. He has been making electronic music for over a decade now and this shows how experience can pay off. The smooth samples with a trance beat and a soft melody is not easy to pull off. But Moby always seems to find the right talent to remix his music and add to the overall experience. This is no exception. Check out some of his older releases and you will understand my point. (I.e. "feeling so real") Moby has repeatedly proven his versatility and it is hard sometimes to know what to expect from him. I have been through this dilemma a number of times personally. Even though Moby himself did not remix all of the tracks you can be rest assured they are of a high caliber.

I have spun the Vinyl equivalent of this disc on a number of occasions and it is becoming something of a crowd favorite. It is a great way to put a little transition into a primarily hard set. Club crowds, believe it or not, like a little variety form time to time. I would not recommend 'part one' as readily as this release but they are both well worth having even if you are not a die-hard Moby fan.

But don't just take my word for it. Check it out for yourself and post what you think. What do I know anyway?

The review below is mostly on target, although I will add that it will take a few hearings before the remixes start growing on you. There are no vocals, which makes a big difference if you like that part of the song. The Clubbed to Death mix is the gem here, when I listen to the original Porcelain I sometimes wish it had some of the harder and darker elements in the Clubbed remix. Is this CD worth it? Well, if you have been listening to Moby non-stop for weeks at a time like I have, then yes, go make the purchase. Can't wait to see Moby live in NYC late October 2000...

4 out of 5 stars Remix CD of "Porcelain".......2000-07-05

This cd single contains three remixes of Moby's brillant "Porcelain" off his cd "Play." 1. Clubbed to Death Version by Rob Dougan 6:36 2. Futureshock Instrumental 8:18 3. Torsten Stenzel's Edited Remix 4:50 The first mix is a very brillant mix that starts out like the original, but then brings in a harder beat which gives it a darker quality than the original version. About 3 minutes into the mix, it goes into an experimental electronic phase that takes the piano line and interweaves it with synthesizer parts that are truly beautiful. It also throws in some scratches to give it a little bit of a Massive Attack feel. Truly a great mix. The second mix has more of a house feel to it. It has a sample of "I never meant to hurt you" flowing through the mix which intertwines with the tribal influenced beat that keeps this mix going. It really kicks into gear when the loop from the original that opens the song is synthesized with a harder edge and wraps around the beats. Very good. The third mix is more in the vein of trance. It starts out with the piano part from the original and slowly goes into a BT-influenced synth arrangement. The piano part is sampled throughout balancing the synthesizer which creates a darkness to it. The only problem with this mix is that it's too short. When you're finally melting into the mood it's creating, it's over. I didn't give this a full five stars since none of the mixes use the beautiful lyrics of the original. Number two samples one line, but that's it. They are still worth having, especially the first mix which is incredible. This is the end of my review, "So this is goodbye."
